showed the biggest Christmas spirit...

with a supersized version of their winning creation.

My mind is blown.

And I'm really excited to beat the competitors again.

Welcome back to the "Biggest Little Christmas Showdown."

Come on, gather around.

Being back at Santa's workshop is good.

I miss James being freaked out all the time.

Congratulations for making it to the finale.

Each team here has proven to be the best in snow

and now you'll compete against one another for your chance

to win a prize worth $50,000.

AMANDA: $50,000.

That would help us so much because we're getting married.

It would definitely help with the wedding.

This time around,

things are gonna be a little bit different in Santa's workshop.

As you can see,

we provided you all with the same shell of a house.

We're giving you the shells because this time around you

don't have time to work at home

like you did earlier in the competition.

You will get to transform these log cabins

into your dream Christmas vacation home.

You will have just 1 and-a-half days to furnish,

decorate, and deck the halls of your tiny masterpieces.

While working on your cabins, you can remove the roofs,

but the roofs must be on for judging

and you will have the help of 2 talented elf carpenters,

along with access to all of the tools

and supplies on the elves' shelves.

At the end of your challenge, you will be evaluated

by a panel of expert judges

on interpretation of your theme,

creativity, and execution.

I think it should be a combination

of what we're both really passionate about.

I think something that would be really different

is if we go whimsical.

I think whimsy would be beautiful.

But Christmas is all about magic.

So how do we add magic?

I'm Darren. And I'm May.

And we want a Charles Dickens Christmas theme.

The creativity was just through the roof.

Christmas was fluent in your masterpiece. Bravo.

What we deliver is surprise elements and...

Magic. ...and magic.

For our dream Christmas vacation home,

we are going to do a magical Christmas wonderland.

Down the lower level,

we're going to do a large sofa sectional,

we're gonna do a large table.

We want to make sure we have never-ending food,

so I would like to create a table

with a conveyor belt on it.

And we want to bring

a swirl graphic repeat throughout the structure.

We have a lot to do.

But we have the elves at our disposal.

They could really help right now.

So what's the plan, man?

So we're getting this furniture done today.

We have this huge, great room

that is just begging for a large sofa.

At minimum, we want to put a 5-piece sectional here.

So we're using an MDF composite wood for the back...

FRANK: This is the thickness.

...and then we're using a plywood for the base.

So we're gonna do traditional batting

and traditional upholstery methods-ish

to get this done.

We're laying batting on top of the wood.

And then we're applying the fabric and tucking it

under as tightly as possible.

DARREN: Alright, so how's that going on the upholstery?

Okay, upholstery is not easy, and this glue is hot.

It is.

I like rock star stuff. Yeah.

So rock and roll. Rock and...

roll with miniatures.

I'm Amanda. And I'm Bree.

And we won the Mele Kalikimaka theme.

Design is in the details and you slayed the details.

I think if we make this like a miniature studio,

then have the guitar focus in the bottom.

All I want for Christmas is to win this competition.

Our concept is black and white Christmas.

We're using black, white, hints of red, some rustic elements

and Bree is really into music.

So we're going to put a lot of guitars in the living room.

And in the loft area,

That's going to be my artist studio.

Our house will represent us and what we're passionate about.

That already looks like rock and roll.

I'm so excited.

Fun fact about musicians,

we love music themed furniture.

Just wanna cut, like, a piece off.

I really want to make a guitar case coffee-table.

So I have one of our elves cut out the guitar case shape

on a piece of wood.

I think that's gonna look really cool.

Then I need to cover the shell with this great vinyl paper

that has an adhesive sticky side...

Yeah, it's pretty fun, right? I am obsessed with it.

...and then it just needs a couple little details.

Rough it up a little bit.

Yeah. Yeah

I take a hollow styrene tube

and I dip it in a slightly lighter shade of black paint.

I'm gonna leave the mug here and take it away.

It makes the perfect coffee ring.

It's such a subtle color.

But it looks so good.

Yeah.

It's got to be modern.

I'm Des. I'm Savannah.

And we won the retro Christmas competition.

ASLING: You really mastered the scale

of all of the elements within your home,

everything felt like it belonged in the exact same world.

Mic drop. You had me.

I was really liking, like, an idea of like black.

Faded black.

'Cause, like, then it's against the snow,

and it's like dramatic.

I know we can win because our style is impeccable.

And I think that sets us apart from the competition.

Upstairs is going to be the actual artist loft area.

And then moving through the house,

we're gonna install built-in shelving.

The main wall unit is going to be the centerpiece.

That is the gallery wall.

And we're putting in a large comfy couch,

bigger pillows, soft linens.

We're very much going with a more minimalist Christmas.

This stuff is so dark.

I'm hoping the judges will agree with our design esthetic.

Black can be a tough sell,

so I'm hoping that they're buying.

It looks sick.

I love it. I love it.

leather around the perimeter of my guitar case.

So I'm working on the 1:44 scale of this house.

I'm really excited to work on my miniaturist studio in the loft,

especially a 1:44 scale dollhouse

which is a dollhouse for a dollhouse.

The scale is pretty insane.

1:44 scale is as if 1:12 scale existed in 1:12 scale,

which is kind of confusing and difficult to calculate.

Just gonna give our miniature a little more of an edge.

After sketching out the basic shape onto balsa wood,

I cut it out.

So that is the shape of the front of the house.

It's a little ambitious, but I really want to show

the judges that I understand how to use scale.

I hope the judges appreciate this little tidbit.

It looks so good.

Here we go, we're gluing her up.

So now that individual battened upholstered pieces

are all pulled together...

I think I'm happy.

...we have a couch. Let me see the couch, Darren.

It's mini challenge time.

We're not really sure what advantage

James is talking about,

but any little bit of help will definitely go a long way.

Your 2 hour starts now.

Here's what we're gonna do.

We got the sticks, so we are going to make

one of those bills-on homemade trees.

We really want to try and create something that's out of the box.

So we wanted to make one

of those modern, rustic, stackable trees.

I think the best thing to do right now

is take the bigger logs at the bottom of the tree

and it starts to get thinner the closer to the top we go.

We're having the elves drill holes into each stick.

It has to go in the center.

FRANK: Okay. Mm-hmm, thank you.

We're going to tie them to a wire.

This is going to be the spine of our Christmas tree.

We have the first layer of our super hip Christmas tree.

We go with our original whimsy and magic concept.

We need tons of wire.

So for our design, we are making a magic Christmas tree

and we're building in a mechanism that dispenses

an unlimited amount of Christmas presents.

Here's the base and here's the tree going up.

Yeah. Something spins in here...

Which we got.

And there's one present that is exposed

and you take that present out and "oh, my God," you turn it,

and there's another one.

I'm working with Mr. Elf on the mechanism,

it's way harder than a regular Christmas tree that just lit up.

How is it spinning? Is it smooth-ish?

Is that dowel in already?

We'll work it out. Okay.

Of course, because it's us,

we have to over-engineer everything.

It's a movable fireplace and it reveals this tiny bonus room.

It's a really nice touch.

And because of that,

the mechanism is taking a lot of time.

So, yeah, we just need to get the engineering figured out ASAP

or we don't even have a tree.

If we're doing that back wall in black

I'm thinking we do a white Christmas tree.

And I also want gold.

Yep.

We're doing a plastic Christmas tree.

It's garland wrapped around the dowel

and we want a consistent color scheme.

So it's going to be the white tree and gold ornaments.

To get like a good, thick tree that looks good and looks real,

You need to wrap garland by hand.

I need, you know, hundreds of pieces of garland

in varying sizes.

This looks like garbage right now,

but trust me, it's gonna look really good.

I wonder if we'll have the biggest tree.

How's your tree coming along, Green Teem?

for your ultimate lit up Christmas trees.

How many bows can I, like, do in an hour?

So we're having elves make presents

and I'm going to be adding the bows.

You want beautiful, elegant miniature bows,

You got to do it the most tedious way possible.

Takes 20 minutes to make 1 bow.

I measure the size of the loop

based on the height of the needle

and then I do the exact same thing going the opposite way.

It's very time consuming.

It's starting to take shape a little bit.

But it really showcases the level of detail

that we like to put in a scene.

Tiny little present.

We have like 30 more to go.

Just a couple.

SAVANNAH: She going in the booth.

Savannah really wants this tree flocked.

Since it is like gonna be against the black wall,

I want it to be more white than green.

So when you're flocking something you want it

to look like it's real.

So you have to spray from above as if snow is falling.

It looks really good.

Yeah, that looks damn good.

We have to leave some time for decorating.

Okay.

So for our design, it's a tree that spins,

And Mr. Elf, he's working on creating that element

that's gonna spin.

I'm working on the gifts

that are going to fit in that little element.

Such a mess.

It's gonna be like the fuzziest tree ever.

Mrs. Elf and I are working away making all the branches,

but we cannot put the tree together

until they are done with the mechanism.

and it's got nothing else.

I'm worried the judges aren't going to think that

the tree is finished enough.

It's gonna be tough.

Tell us about your ultimate lit-up, dream Christmas tree.

So we're going all out whimsy for this build

and so this Christmas tree actually turns

and dispenses Christmas presents.

It's like a gumball.

Like a gumball machine. Exactly.

Well, I love the idea of it giving gifts.

That's kind of fun.

And I love the shape of your tree,

but I'm missing ornaments.

I mean, the mechanism is a great feature,

but it just feels like it's not quite done.

tell us about your ultimate light up Christmas tree.

So you'll notice the tree has white spray paint on it.

And that's to mimic snow.

We wanted to kind of go with the classic Christmas look

and do gold on the tree

and then just a simple white lights around it.

I have to applaud you for taking simple ornaments

and painting them all the same color

so it looks very elegant.

The thing that's not working for me is the tree topper,

something a little bit more ornate or pretty

would have been wonderful.

Well, I, I really do like it.

I can see that a lot of effort

went into the construction of the tree.

There's something happening with the scale.

It might just be a tiny bit tall,

but it's a beautiful tree.

Tell us about your ultimate lit-up Christmas tree.

The theme that Amanda and I decided

is rock and roll Christmas.

We utilized the sticks

that we found on the elf shelves to create that stacked pattern.

Well, I think it's a pretty fun idea to make a basically

a log Christmas tree in a log cabin.

I am seeing our old friend hot glue come back

and it'd be nice to spend another two minutes

before it was set just to pull those little webs out.

But I love the details on the presents.

The ribbons are beautifully done.

Well, I'm crazy for having

a certain color palette for Christmas,

and I like that you guys are doing that.

I wish that there was maybe a little bit more going on

like that buffalo check ribbon

that you have going maybe a little bit more of that.

But I like that rock and roll Christmas idea, it's very nice.

AMANDA: I look over at the other teams

so we did something different and I hope we win.

What are we going to do? 'Cause we wanted to do that wall unit,

so maybe we take the wall unit

from the old house and repurpose it?

Yeah, that would look really good, actually.

For the advantage that we got,

we're gonna take the unit out of the old house.

Because that's the most work to do.

But we want to freshen it up.

We don't want to just repeat the same piece.

Well, we have to reassemble it, but...

We want to display some of Savannah's artwork,

so we're thinking we'll turn that into a gallery wall

with the shelves,

be able to show off all of her art.

I've always wanted to make a resin river table in miniature.

So right now I have these wood pieces

that I already distressed on here

taped to this special UV resin tape.

I'm using resin dye to kind of do

like a cool marbling effect.

Have you ever done that technique before, Amanda?

No. My heart is racing, Awesome.

I then placed the pieces into the UV lamp for 180 seconds.

Now it's in the curing chamber.

I hope the judges appreciate the effort.

Oh, man.

That is cool.

This is all we took out of the old house

and we want to, like, stain it black

so that it's more like the house that we're working in now.

I've started to make cake 'cause who doesn't like cake?

In our first competition,

The judges love my handmade treats.

Would you guys like to try them?

Oh, my gosh, yes.

And they're good.

For us it was like a secret weapon,

so I'm hoping to utilize that again...

Look, looks like real cake.

...but I want to present it in a different way.

The rectangle it is 6 inches long by 4 inches wide.

I would like to create a table with a conveyor belt on it

that we have stuck food to.

It's giving unlimited cakes.

We can do that, we can do that.

Okay, we can do it.

So I have asked Mr. Elf

to cut this out for me and put it together.

This is going to have 2 sides and a split top

and two dowel rods

that are going to act as the wheels.

This will move gently. Yeah, it's gonna.

And with another dowel rod so you can twist it.

And once the cakes are sewn on,

it should smoothly make all the pies and cakes

go around and around forever.

Here's a side. It's going to come down.

It's gonna lay. Just like that?

Yeah, just like that.

Tell me that's not fluffy like my little couch at home.

Oh, it looks good. Oh, I'm so pleased.

I'm starting on the sofa and I want it to look like

a replica of my couch at home.

So the table is pretty much complete,

but now I have to figure out a way to stick food

onto this conveyor belt, so I use wire

and that wire pokes up through the conveyor belt

and then you can bend the wire

over who's not gonna fall.

It's been a minute since I've used a sewing machine,

so we're going to see how this works out.

So we've picked a really nice fabric for our couch,

but we really need some pillows on top to add accent color.

Oh, what the hell? The foot fell off.

Every frickin' time I'm running this thing through,

it's messing up and I can't do it.

This is the most stress that I've felt this entire time

Des can finish the pillows, I need to be done.

In order to recover from my fiasco,

I am doing something that I enjoy, which is painting.

I actually have a minor in art, my specialty is in paintings.

That's a little bit of an edge we have.

I don't think anybody else is going to have pieces like that.

And I got my elf to make tiny canvases

'cause there's actually canvas fabric here.

I'm not using oil paints, so I'm using acrylic paints

because the acrylic is like way easier to use

and it's gonna make a super good-looking gallery wall.

I really want to make bar stools for Amanda's river table.

The last time we saw the judges,

they were really impressed with how I repurpose bottle caps

as the top of our tiki bar stools.

I think one of my favorite things

is just how you've repurpose the coolest little

ordinary things to make them extraordinary.

So I definitely feel like doing that again.

So I have these old cork looking buttons

that I think definitely look like a stool top.

Flip it over, you've got a little bar stool.

I'm just pulling on my wheel

'cause I need to start on my pottery now.

In the last competition the judges really liked my pottery.

The clay pots are killing me.

So I'm gonna bring them back.

I'm thinking this is going to be really good.

Like nobody else is going to have pottery, right?

So I just want to make a teapot.

And now I'm just throwing the spout.

The hand thrown pottery,

which is another secret weapon,

so I'm hoping that no one else is doing it too.

I do pottery.

I look over at Savannah's throwing pottery too.

Coming in to day 2, we have a lot to get done.

There's an impending sense of dread in the back of my head.

[ Sigh ]

Engine's running, feeling fantastic.

It's very dark.

Well, we're gonna get lights.

We discover that there is a whole bunch of

LEDs sconces in the elves' shelves.

What do you think? Look, look, look, look.

I love these. Is there another 4?

So in the miniature world, scale is super important,

but light is even more important

because you need to be able to see the details.

I think just like... sparkles! Sparkles with lights.

So our lighting plan is to put these sconces

along the entire portion of the wall

that has an all family center seating area,

but then we realize that we need to create a design element

to finish off these sconces.

So we decide to create lampshades

that go around the sconces because we want Christmas magic.

And I want to have swirls on these lampshades.

I am painting many, many, many, many, many hand painted spirals.

So we have to get these lampshades hung.

So hard to do.

Oh my God, this is so hard to do.

[ Chuckle ]

This is so hard to do.

They look really cool.

I'm cutting out those pillows

that Savannah had to break down over,

so I got to get those done.

Yesterday, I was having a little bit of a problem

with these pillows.

And now I have to fix them.

So these pillows, you sew them inside out and then once

they're sewn or held together, you flip them right side out.

I'm ripping through these pillows.

So once Des has blitzed them, I step back in.

Oh, if you want, I can fill those with rice.

In real life you fill a pillow with stuffing,

but because a tiny pillow, it's so light,

it just looks like there's no weight to it.

So we're going to be filling the pillows with rice instead

Trick, trick, trick. That's a hot tip for you.

Look at these little pillows, they're cute.

So I was like, I can cut it if you have something else

you want to do.

I'm finishing the built-in unit

from the previous house that we picked to repurpose

after winning the mini challenge.

Now, I'm working on the layout for the gallery wall unit.

We're trying not to be cocky.

Oh, my God, this is about to be so good.

But I mean, it looks good.

It's a Christmas miracle

we got that built-in from the old house.

Going into judging, we need to put the roof on.

But when I put the roof on...

Our cabin's too dark!

There are not enough lights and everything is just hidden.

I'm thinking that this could probably lead to our downfall.

I'm like freaking out. This isn't working.

It's like wobbling like a little bit.

The thing that is killing me is the lighting.

SAVANNAH: Aw, it's so cute.

BREE: Our cabin's too dark,

there are not enough lights and everything is just hidden.

But the amount of time we have is

just not working in our favor.

So we decide to focus on all the details

and not add any additional lighting.

It's okay, focus on what you need to do.

Yeah, I need to do a lot.

We don't want to spend a lot of time on the landscaping.

I'm cutting out snow.

So the only way to achieve that quickly is batting.

The problem of batting is that it looks like batting

If you don't take the time to zhuzh it.

Everybody else has got like a really thin layer of snow,

but we're we're going for it.

And I'm putting a mug on the table.

Do it up.

DARREN: Just like that.

Tell us about your Christmas vacation home.

So a lot of the detailing is based on our passions.

So Bree, that's music,

and my passion of making miniatures, obviously.

I can really see you guys in here

doing that kind of stuff

because you put so much of yourself into it.

The dollhouse, the guitar case coffee table,

those are perfection right there.

That's like amazing.

The thing that is killing me is the lighting.

So a lot of those little elements and so much work

that you did is just lost.

Yes. Yes, Dave.

IGLEHART: Technology.

I love the records on the wall

and I really like the sort of strong black, white,

and red theme that you've got going on.

That said, even though

I love the button bar stools downstairs,

they do actually feel a little bit too tall.

GORDER: In the loft,

I'd have to say this is my favorite part

of the entire space because you can see it the best

because it's lit.

The little sticks of wood,

and I love the resin table.

I wish the resin had really shown up

that kind of transparent quality about it.

But I like that you tried.

Tell us about your Christmas dream vacation home.

DARREN: So everything in here is magical,

especially the iconic little swirl design

which notice will be throughout.

Here is our conveyor belt table

that has an endless supply of cookies and cakes.

There's a cake that just came out. There's a pie.

Well, it's super Christmassy.

I love the conveyor belt,

it just reminds me of Lucy and Ethel eating the chocolate.

It's nice to see actual baking going on in the miniatures.

It does feel enormously festive and I love

that you're leading with food.

And I see a teeny tiny piece of ceramic back there.

Did you throw that as well? Yes.

Really beautiful, but the swirls are unnecessary.

We don't need to brand magic.

I like that you've created these little hand

painted sconces on the wall here

to bring a little bit of light down into that lower level.

But I feel like the upholstered furniture,

the red couch and the chair are actually a tiny bit small,

But I really like the wrapping area upstairs that is cluttered

and full of bits of ribbon and paper.

tell us about your dream vacation Christmas home.

DES: We wanted to tie in our artistic side, so we like to paint.

I painted a whole gallery wall of landscapes.

Additionally, Des has created her literal couch

because we want the space to feel like extremely cozy.

That's so fantastic.

It looks like you just shrinky-dinked a real one.

Ceramic wise, I do appreciate all the different forms.

The art wall,

I mean, if I didn't like you, I would hate you.

It's so good, please, girl.

I love the loft area. It's very meticulous.

What is like killing me a little bit is like this muslin on top.

It doesn't look anything like snow.

It looks like your upholstering the roof.

Black is a very bold choice.

I don't know if I would ever do it personally,

but I think it really works in this environment

and the way that you've brought it through the different pieces

within the house.

I do actually really like the scale of everything.
