like she needed to hide

so many aspects of who she was.

I know you lost your mom too.

want to ask her these things.

to want to ask your mom

these questions, these
really important questions.

it's actually really different.

I'm 16. You're like, what, 40?

Well, no.

I'm sorry your mom got a tattoo

and didn't tell you,

but I can never tell my
mom about my first kiss.

She won't be able to help
me pick out a prom dress

or see me graduate or
help me pick a college

or see me become the
badass environmentalist

I will eventually be.

So no, we are not the same.

One dead mom doesn't equal another.

I might as well make
money off it, right?

I'll go work for some

high-profile white shoe law firm,

and I'll take care of myself
and I'll take care of my mom

and I'll be a kick-ass,
self-made black woman

at the top of her game in
a rich white man's world".

But when I look at who
I am and what I've done...
