we'll expose exclusive, never before seen footage

of their surreal journeys.

that might just give away the whole game.

But, first, she kicked off our season with a big bang,

check out the sun's golden road to the finals.

I decided to do "the masked singer"

because, after working pretty much my entire life,

I just wanted to have some much needed fun and joy

and try something weird.

But from my first rehearsals,

something weirder happened.

I realized that as the sun,

I could retell my story just through song

like I never could before, and it all started

with that very first note.

Five seconds. Four, three, two, one, playback.

What a way to open season four on "the masked singer," sun!

I was over the moon because I finally felt

completely free to express myself,

and there's power in that.

But after that first song,

I realized my costume was too tight

to let me hit certain notes.

And the mask so heavy,

I felt like I was gonna fall over.

Whoa! Help!

The design team came to my rescue

to restructure it

and ensure I could really let my voice shine.

Because for my second performance, I wanted to dig deep.

And show a side that is softer,

more fragile, and deeply emotional.

♪ 'cause you brought the flames and you put me through hell ♪

what I love about the sun is she has amazing pitch,

she knows exactly how to hit the soft note, hit the big note,

and that's why she's one of the strongest singers

we've had on any of the seasons.

Probably, out of all of our seasons,

my favorite female vocal I've ever heard on this show.

I was tearing up.

I was so touched

by the panel's reaction,

and even more determined to bare my soul each week.

And in the super six, sun rose to the occasion

with possibly the most emotional performance in "masked" history.

I love billie eilish's "when the party's over"

because it's haunting in its simplicity.

But I decided to take a risk

and strip it down even further to expose my raw voice.

And be more vulnerable than ever.

and everyone will be unmasked.

as we explain the crafty clues

of our unmasked singers once and for all.

All right, the first mask to be slayed was dragon.

Who turned out to be trailblazing rapper busta rhymes.

Busta bust!

There were hints everywhere to his identity,

so get fired up as we shed light on the key clues.

"lairz" was our take on the show "cribs,"

where he was on its first season,

showing off his crib in hometown new york,

hence the statue of liberty.

And the biggest clue of all?

His costume. Busta's nickname is the dragon.

I just was in the spirit of wanting to give people a dope, obvious clue,

and I felt like the dragon costume did it.

It just nailed it.

The next singer to take it off

was our mischievous gremlin,

who made "masked singer" history as the first celebrity

to break all the rules and self-unmask before the vote.

No! No! - Ken: Don't do it!

I was shocked to see it was oscar-nominated actor mickey rourke.

I can't believe it.

- Oh, my god! - Jenny! You were right!

I still can't believe it.

And he's out!

It is the strangest experience I've ever had.

I gotta say, I'm turning into a puppeteer.

Now he starts doing things that I don't even control.

We've grown pretty close over the last couple of weeks.

The next famous face to smile for the cameras

was lips, who was talk show icon wendy williams.

I'm a little nervous, to be quite honest with you.

I mean, I know there's some fierce competition out there,

but I'm ready to bring it.

Absolutely. And you've been doing it all season long,

so let's take a inside look

at your jaw-dropping road to the finale.

Man, it's crazy to think how I got to this point,

having just beaten seahorse.

The golden mask trophy is still within your reach.

So let me tell you my tale of how it happened.

I suited up here because despite performing most of my life,

I could never show my true self.

But becoming this powerful pink reptile,

I felt protected by my thick skin, able to just be me.

And right away, I was ready to croc.

It was now or never.

when crocodile first performed,

I wondered if we've ever had a better rock vocalist.

Crocodile just totally went for bon jovi and nailed it.

After that first song, I realized I could truly display the range of talent

of my heart, my soul on that stage.

When I decided to be on "the masked singer,"

I could have been anything on earth,

but I felt my true calling was in the earth. The mushroom.

Mushrooms are gentle and magical.

They connect all the plants together underground.

And I'm here because I hope my music can connect you all

- in the same way. - She looks fabulous!

But I'm also here because I'm super determined

to fool the panel to the very, very end.

So I embodied a unique character.

And I started with an incredible song I knew would really disguise my voice.

while I was having a cup of hot cocoa.

That was amazing!

Oh, my gosh. First of all, I thought you were a woman,

but I think you're a man underneath there. You never know.

I love singing as the mushroom, though the whole time I was just watching the panel's faces.

Do they know it's me?

That was weighing on me, plus this head was, too.

It weighs, like, 20 pounds.

- You doing okay, mush? - Yeah, it's just really heavy,

but it helps relieve pressure on my neck if I just hold it up like this.

- You're doing great. Hang in there. - Okay, thanks.

But my big head isn't gonna stop me from winning.

So for my second song, I added extra choreo

and took on an energetic power vocal

to share my spicier side.

Oh, my god, when mushroom sang "turn back time,"

the tone of his voice, it sang to my soul.

I tried to find a way to hold the note at the end as long as possible.

And I nailed it!

Wow! - That was hot!

We are in the presence of greatness!

Mushroom, I think you might be unbeatable.

The panel's comments mean so much.

Mushrooms often get stepped on.

People don't give credit to things they think are beneath them.

So it's nice to be a fighter for those that have been made to feel small.

But after jellyfish topped him in round three,

mushroom had to fight extra hard

becoming the first finalist forced to fight for his life in the smackdown.

wow! Did you see that? Stealth!

While I was sad to take out fellow plant-life,

it felt good to represent for us lowly mushrooms

and continue to spread my message.

It just seems like everything the mushroom stands for

is togetherness, unity, equality,

a brother and sisterhood,

and especially right now in this world,

that's what we need more than ever.

And more than ever in the super six,

mushroom had to up his game as he faced the fish

who stung him a week earlier.

The mushroom's version of "valerie" was powerful.

To have that beautiful, melodic voice

come out of that mushroom, I was just very moved by that.
