Twisted Fate of Love

Episode 14

Feng Xi does what you say now,

but he will lose his interest soon.

I advise you to take the hint.

I don’t care what past you and Feng Xi had.

But right now,

I’m the most important woman for him.

Have you seen this jade pendant?

He gave it to me as a token when we first met.

He said his mother gave it to him.

He would only give it to his most beloved woman.

It’s just a jade pendant.

You can say what you want.

I’m afraid that Feng Xi

didn’t mention about the pendant to you.

That’s right.

Since he wasn’t gonna give it to you,

why would he tell you that?

There is no way you can smear

our years of feelings.

It’s just a jade pendant.

Who knows where you got the story from?

Fine.

Since you don’t believe the jade pendant,

you should know the shadow puppetry theater

that Feng Xi and I always go to.

He specially asked the theater to arrange a show, Xi and Yue’s Story.

It’s a story about the two of us.

You can go there and take a look

when you are free some time.

Then you’ll know if I’m telling the truth.

Madam, don’t listen to her nonsense.

She just wants to make you angry.

We can go confront Minister Feng.

Enough!

Minister.

Yurou.

What happened to you today?

There are so many women in the mansion.

It’s the first time I saw you get angry.

I don’t know what’s going on with me recently.

I just feel a little uneasy.

I specially found this Sounding with Steps for you,

do you like it?

You have given me a lot of jewelry,

I don’t have enough time to wear them.

The prince of the previous dynasty

gave it to his wife,

meaning the beauty of the princess,

and the prince’s deep love for her.

Here.

It’s beautiful.

I like everything from you.

Let’s go.

I told you

that Madam’s position in Feng’s Mansion is unshakable.

Dongyue.

You look upset.

Is it because of the golden Sounding of Steps

that Minister Feng gave to Yurou?

Of course not.

Have you ever seen me wearing those jewelry?

I’m just curious about

what kind of past

Feng Xi and Li Yurou have had.

I don’t know the past of

Minister Feng and Yurou.

But I have heard a little about

their current relationship now.

I heard

that Yurou was not happy yesterday

after she got the jewelry.

Her maid said

that she prepared everything last night,

but Minister Feng would rather go to the study for the night.

That doesn’t mean anything.

It is said that after Yurou entered the mansion,

Minister Feng and she didn’t consummate their marriage.

He also told her

that she could leave Feng’s Mansion

if she had a better place to go.

It’s impossible.

She always puts herself out there as Madam Rou.

Madam Rou, not Mrs. Feng.

Right?

That’s because it’s all her wishful thinking.

Yes.

She saved Minister Feng’s life.

But I don’t think Minister Feng

has feelings for her.

He is just returning her favor.

You do have a point.

Dongyue.

Minister Feng deliberately treated Yurou well in front of you

because he wants to make you jealous

and make you care more about him.

Madam.

Someone from the harem said

that the Noble Consort wants to see you

and invites you there.

The Noble Consort wants to see me?

Miss, please wait a minute.

Greetings to Your Grace.

You may rise.

Thank you, Your Grace.

Thank you for interceding for me

about me disguising as a man.

You saved me from the heavy punishment.

In fact, you don’t need to thank me.

It was Feng Xi who interceded for you.

I was just doing what he said.

Your Grace, what can I do for you?

Everyone in the court said

Minister Feng is infatuated with you

and has lost his mind.

He did a lot of ridiculous things for you.

It must be a misunderstanding.

I feel the same way

after seeing you.

My brother is a playboy.

There are so many women.

How could he be captivated by you?

I heard that you moved into Feng’s Mansion recently.

I’m just staying in Feng’s Mansion for a few days.

I will do nothing inappropriate with Minister Feng.

I hope you can remember what you said today.

Although I’m in the harem,

if I know

anyone has ill intention

for my brother,

I will never spare her.

Yes.

Look,

I just want to have a chat with you.

Maid Lvzhu Seems that we are getting off the track.

These are the grapes His Majesty gave me.

It’s rare.

Have a taste.

Lvzhu, see if it’s poisoned.

Yes.

There are all kinds of people in the harem.

It’s unavoidable to be contaminated with unclean things.

It’s nothing wrong to be careful.

But it’s a reward from His Majesty.

There should be no problem.

I’m afraid that someone even dares to

mess with the things from His Majesty.

The slut Hong’e...

Lvzhu, stop.

Dongyue.

Try the grapes.

They are sweet.

Your Grace, His Majesty wants to see you.

I have something else to do.

Dongyue, you should go back.

Yes.

Don’t forget what you promised me.

Miss!

Please stay.

What can I do for you?

Why did the Noble Consort react like that

when you mentioned about Hong’e?

Is she the maid who died not long ago?

That slut was bought by Concubine Wan.

She put poison in Her Grace’s diet.

Luckily, Xiaoman noticed it

and saved Her Grace.

But Xiaoman was murdered later.

Did Hong’e do it?

Why would you care so much about the harem stuff?

Luckily, Her Grace has Minister Feng.

Otherwise, a lot of people in the Palace

would set her up.

I’ll leave.

Feng Xi said

Hong’e deserves her death.

Did I misunderstand him?

Your Majesty, if you still don’t feel well,

then have a rest today.

Ask someone to inform

those ministers to not wait any longer.

How can I do that?

My father repeatedly advised me

to be diligent in national affairs before he died.

I have not dared to forget these years.

But you have been sick for several days.

Honey.

I didn’t go to court yesterday because of my illness.

I already feel guilty about it.

If you keep persuading me,

you are making it unrighteous of me.

Your Majesty,

you vomited and had diarrhea last night.

I’m really worried.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Did the Imperial Household Department make a thorough investigation?

Are they sure there is nothing wrong

about my meals these days?

They have checked everything.

There is no problem.

How about I ask them to check it again?

Okay.

Your Majesty.

The pharmacist said

there is medicine called ruta graveolens missing

in the pills you usually take.

They don’t know if it is relevant.

Ziyuan!

Ziyuan, it’s me!

Daole.

Are you looking for Miss Ziyuan?

Yeah.

I haven’t seen her all day.

I’m here to see her.

Isn’t she inside?

She went out.

Where did she go?

It seems to be a matchmaking.

Matchmaking?

Where?

With whom?

Nice to meet you.

I’m Lu...

You are Lu Chuan from Court History Bureau, Mr. Lu.

Do you know me?

Of course.

Last time at Court...

No.

I was still Mingzhu when I met him last time.

Now I have changed my identity and my look.

This should be the first time we meet.

Although we haven’t met before,

I read every issue of your Capital Journal.

Minister Feng told you about it, right?

I’m flattered.

I’m flattered.

Oh my god.

Minister Feng must have highly recommended me.

Madam Rou introducing her niece to me

must be his idea.

He thinks highly of me.

Don’t hold back.

Just laugh if you want.

Isn’t the happiest thing for you literati

to be praised for your book?

Not really.

The roast chicken is my favorite dish.

How about you?

Me, too!

Really?

Do you know what this wine is?

Let me smell it.

Plum wine.

What good luck to meet you!

-Come on. -A toast to you!

What’s happening?

Could it be a ghost?

Daole?

Daole?

You...

Why are you here?

Why didn’t you mention to me

about your matchmaking?

Daole.

I...

It’s you.

You can’t do this anymore.

You scared me to death.

Get off.

Does Minister Feng care about me so much?

Did he send you here to check how we are doing?

Right?

You go back first.

I’ll tell you about it later.

Daole.

Are you looking for Ziyuan?

Yes!

Ziyuan practices martial arts with me every day.

She can’t miss one day.

Practice martial arts?

I’ll practice martial arts later.

No way.

I’ll sleep when you go back.

No one will teach you then.

Can I practice it by myself?

You...!

The lady from Feng’s Mansion also needs to practice martial arts.

Minister Feng is too strict.

Yes!

That’s why she

should marry someone

who is a master of martial arts!

This is not necessarily true.

Being complementary is also good.

-Right? -Who said that?

Miss Feng.

Daole!

You can’t decide

who I’m going to marry.

You are a member of the Feng family!

Of course I have to watch out for you!

That’s right.

Ziyuan, you are Feng Xi’s niece.

Not everyone deserves you.

Ziyuan is Feng Xi’s niece.

Daole calls Minister Feng uncle.

Then Daole, you are Miss Ziyuan’s

little brother!

Brother.

If I become the son-in-law of the Feng family,

you must take care of me.

Who is your brother?

Enough, Daole!

Mr. Lu.

I’m so sorry.

I...

I’m here to see you today

not because I want to get married.

It’s just difficult to refuse Yurou’s kindness.

I have to see you

to give her an answer.

That means

Minister Feng didn’t betroth you to me.

Minister Feng doesn’t know.

I see.

It’s all my wishful thinking.

I’m so sorry.

Ziyuan.

I...

Ziyuan!

I’ll pay for this meal for Ziyuan!

Take it as my apology.

I thought Minister Feng and I could become family.

The next issue of Capital Journal

will be about

anti-fraud guide about matchmaking.

Wenxing Restaurant

Ziyuan!

Ziyuan!

Wait for me!

Ziyuan.

Ziyuan.

I really didn’t know

that Yurou arranged the matchmaking for you.

Daole.

You were being too rude.

Even if I want to get married,

you don’t need to follow me here.

I...

We are family.

Of course I have to watch out for you.

Not to mention

Lu Chuan is not worthy of you!

I will figure out my own business.

There is no need for others to tell me what to do.

Besides, what’s wrong with Mr. Lu

that makes you belittle him?

When I was in Court History Bureau with Dongyue,

Mr. Lu took good care of me.

I still remember it.

You two have known each other for so long.

Do you still like him?

I don’t like him.

But I don’t want to embarrass him.

If it wasn’t for you to almost hit him,

I wouldn’t tell the truth about the matchmaking

and make him feel embarrassed.

But I really didn’t know.

Even if you don’t like Mr. Lu,

you shouldn’t act like that.

I can’t figure out

why you were so rude.

I...

I...!

Ziyuan!

Wenxing Restaurant

Because I care about you.

Modesty and Brilliance

Yurou.

Ziyuan.

Are you not satisfied

with Mr. Lu?

Mr. Lu is a good person.

It’s me...

That’s fine.

I found a few more guys for you.

They are all better than Lu Chuan.

You can go to meet them

when you have time.

Yurou.

I appreciate your kindness.

It’s just that I don’t want to do it again.

It’s fine to fail once.

The road to happiness is strewn with setbacks.

It won’t work no matter how many people I meet.

I... It’s not that they are not good enough.

I don’t want to get married now.

I just want to help Minister Feng

and finish my task well.

Don’t be so ungrateful!

Hush.

Yurou.

Please forgive me.

I understand your mind.

But you are still a girl.

You can’t give up your marriage

for practicing martial arts.

But I...

She will get married!

Daole.

What do you know about girls’ stuff?

Yurou.

I know nothing about girls’ stuff.

But I can’t just let you arrange

matchmaking for my future wife.

You are talking nonsense again.

How is Ziyuan your future wife?

Are you, Ziyuan?

Yes.

We two love each other.

He told me he was going to marry me long time ago.

Why didn’t you mention about it before?

We are not blood-related,

but Ziyuan is still the lady of the Feng family.

We can’t tell other people about it

before Xi makes the decision.

We still need to practice martial arts.

We’ll leave now.

Madam.

Are they really in a relationship?

Whether it’s real or fake,

we can’t get us involved anymore.

It won’t be good

if Minister Feng knows about it.

Modesty and Brilliance

All right.

They are not following us.

You are a good friend today.

You are not angry with me?

No.

You made me angry once,

and you helped me once.

We are even now.

That’s great.

Let’s start.

Start?

Really?

Yeah.

Let’s start to practice martial arts.

Martial arts.

Okay.

Let’s do it.

I’ll start.

Taiji Hall Zhaoyang Hall

The drought lasted three months this summer.

Minister of Revenue Yang Yan I took people to pump water in person

Minister of Revenue Yang Yan and finally saved the grains!

I’m more worried than you about the drought.

For this natural disaster,

I have asked everyone in the Palace to copy scriptures to pray for blessings.

Isn’t that sincere enough?

Your Majesty, your sincerity is witnessed by the heaven.

But just with some words from the Pharmaceutical Bureau,

paddy fields are replanted with ruta graveolens.

What should the people eat then?

I take the pill to cultivate myself

and pray for the people!

You dare to refuse to plant ruta graveolens.

Do you think I’m doing the wrong thing?

Your Majesty, if you can stop the cultivation

and show your grace at the right place,

you will be as gracious as the heaven

and as magnificent as the sun and the moon.

Why would you indulge yourself in the pills?

You...!

Ministers.

What do you think?

How should I do?

Your Majesty.

Minister Yang defied your decree to plant ruta graveolens.

He won the reputation

of being concerned about the people.

But he put you in an unrighteous position.

This is his first crime.

He refused to offer the centenary herbs

and made you feel uncomfortable.

This is his second crime.

He contradicted you in court.

This is his third crime.

Minister Yang committed three crimes.

I suggest you

dismiss him and send him to jail.

Ministers.

What do you think?

It’s wise of you, Your Majesty.

Criminal Yang Yan offended and deceived His Majesty.

What he did is unforgivable.

Today he is put into jail to wait for his beheading.

His family will be exiled.

Respect this!

Minister made an order that

everyone needs to show the token to leave or enter the mansion.

Well, including me?

Is the carriage ready?

Yes.

What about the stuff I asked you to prepare?

They have set off to Zhuming Post.

Zhuming Post?

What are they planning again?

I have to find a way to sneak out and have a look.

I’m with him!

Well,

do you have something on your mind?

There are rumors

that you made Yang Yan and his family suffer.

Is there

any hidden reason?

I never cared about

what other people think of me.

In this world,

I only care what you think of me.

I don’t know.

But I always

find you difficult to understand.

Look,

how beautiful the moonlight is.

You can ask me everything you want to know.

It’s hard to tell if you are telling the truth.

I will find

the answer by myself.

Then I will wait for you

until you find the answer.

Let me play another song for you.

Minister Feng.

This is for

the beautiful scenery tonight.

To the beautiful scenery tonight.

This is for

the good wine and the right people.

To the right people.

This is for

the ilex tree in the backyard.

To the ilex tree.

Minister Feng?

Feng Xi?

Feng Xi?

This is

for our Dongyue.

Move!

Go!

Go!

Hurry!

Go!

Go!

Lunar calendar

Get off!

Don’t touch my lunar calendar!

You will be dead soon,

but you still think about your broken book.

Please.

Give it back to me.

Take him down!

Take him down!

-Thank you. -Go inside!

-Thanks -Go inside!

Who are you?

We are seeking fortune!

Leave the food and money,

then you can leave safely.

Bold bandit!

How dare you try to rob the government!

Get them!

It seems that they want the grains,

but what they really want are the prisoners.

Take away the grains.

Yes.

Minister, Yang Yan’s family has been settled properly.

We will send them to a safe place

after they rest for a few days.

Well done.

Feng Xi?

Shouldn’t he be drunk and stay at home?

Tell Murong to get ready.

I will find a way to get her into the capital soon.

Yuanshan.

Former subordinate of the Ming family, Fu Yuanshan

Former subordinate, Fu Yuanshan I will leave the Yang family to you.

I’ll go now.

Drop the act.

You heard the flute, right?

My Dongyue has improved a bit.

You knew to get me drunk and sneak out.

It’s a pity

that your lying skill

is worse than one tenth of mine.

Did you arrange the people to save him?

You never really trusted me.

You pretended to get drunk,

was that trusting me?

The night was beautiful

and the flute was pleasant.

Beauty and mellow wine.

Why would I need to pretend?

Yang Yan

is doomed to die.

Now he saved his family

with his life.

I prepared to die when I was

speaking out in the court.

Unexpectedly,

you, a treacherous villain, took advantage of it!

You can do nothing

but please His Majesty!

Manipulate power

and seek any chance to get promoted!

-Don’t touch me! -Get back!

Minister Yang, you risked your life to advise His Majesty.

I admire you for your uprightness.

But, Minister Yang,

after you die,

what about your family?

Do you think His Majesty will let them go?

I can’t save you from your disaster.

But if you trust me,

I can find a way

to protect your family

and keep them away from strife.

Thank you, Minister Feng.

His Majesty concentrates on cultivating himself.

The competition is fierce between Deputy Prime Minister and Marquis Lu.

Without vigorous and resolute actions

and meticulous plans,

it would be like on the chopping block.

Besides,

I’m not a loyal and righteous subordinate.

I never cared about what they say.

But you said

you care what I think of you.

Of course.

Sit down and tell me

how you think of me.

Rest assured.

We are just chatting.

There is nothing between you and me.

What’s with that guilty conscience?

What are you thinking?

I’m thinking

what you were like as a kid.

Were you the same as now?

Shrewd and deep,

smooth and slick.

Have you ever picked fruits?

My mother died early when I was young.

My father was busy with official duties.

I was so bored

that I went to the woods to pick fruits.

I also picked wild fruits when I was a kid.

But not for fun.

For hunger.

The Feng family declined when I was a child.

It was just me and my sister.

We could hardly have a good meal.

My sister went to the river

to pick lotus seedpod for me.

She was almost swept away by the water.

But she was reluctant to eat

the lotus seedpod she got.

She gave it all to me.

The lotus seed was bitter.

But I was hungry,

and I couldn’t eat it.
