Marry Me

Episode 6

-Li Ke. -Yes.

-Report it now. -Yes.

My lord, there is another dead woman here.

-Wait... -Take them down.

-Yes. -Bring them back for interrogation.

Hold on.

We are Wujin Imperial Guards

Nobody move.

Greetings, Commander.

May I know what brings you here, my lord?

This case is under the inspection of Wujin Imperial Guard.

There shall be no delay.

Ask your men to back off now.

Yes, sir. Stand down.

Our men didn't recognise you.

Authoritative yet humble

It's a misunderstanding, I beg...

of your forgiveness, Lord Long and Young Master Yue.

Constable,

I have a question.

Judging from the decomposition of the body,

that woman should've been dead for some days.

But why did you only...

inspect the mountain today?

The thing is...

that village woman often shopped at the market down the mountain.

Although she lived in seclusion in the mountain,

she spent generously.

So every business owner down the mountain knew her.

Once, she had forgotten to bring money...

and bought some jewellery on credit.

She didn't go to pay after a long time.

The store owner got anxious and reported it.

Did she...

interact with other people recently?

Authoritative yet humble

We never noticed that.

Once the autopsy result is out,

report to me immediately.

Yes, sir.

Father.

Don't think that I don't know anything.

I've heard that...

you didn't seek medical treatment at all.

How dare you collude with Young Master Yue to lie to me?

Father,

I...

I didn't mean to lie.

Just let me out first.

Father, this is the last chance.

Master is really innocent.

If I do nothing to help,

wouldn't that make me ungrateful?

Father, have you forgotten...

that we are indebted to Master?

Mu'er,

I'm not an ungrateful man.

But because of this,

you've hurt yourself too much.

I can't bear to watch it.

I won't have it.

This time, I won't let you put your safety at risk again no matter what.

Father...

I'll be careful, please believe me.

-Father, just let me out first. -No.

At least bring me something to eat.

Father!

Father!

What's the special occasion?

Such a sumptuous meal.

Long Fei,

have you been ill-treated?

You made it sound like the Long family is poor.

Long Teng,

thank goodness you arrived on time today.

But how did you know...

we were in the mountain outside the city?

Has there been a time I didn't know where you two were?

The city guard came to inform me that...

the second young master of Long and daughter of the Ju Wine House...

left the city one after another.

They thought you two were eloping.

Hearing how the Long family name is being tarnished,

I rushed over.

Fortunately, I made it in time.

That's right.

When matchmakers in the city heard,

they were so disappointed that they closed their doors early...

to check out your relationship with Ms Ju.

Many of them even visited our residence personally.

You're the leader of martial arts.

Why do you care about these matters?

Long Yue,

these gossips are also part of the martial art circle.

As the leader of that circle,

of course I need to know everything.

Both of you, cut it out.

Long Yue,

what exactly is going on between you and Ms Ju?

Growing up together,

I've never seen you cared so much about anyone.

Even when you helped someone cross the road,

you would for a pancake in return.

Why do you care so much about Ms Ju?

Could it be our second brother...

is falling in love for the first time?

That's not it.

If it wasn't because of music...

Long Yue, are you trying to kill your own brother?

Shut up and eat.

Eat...

What exactly is going on?

You're right about that.

Ms Ju is...

She's quite good, she's a nice girl.

What Long Fei said just now was her qin skills.

Ms Ju can play the qin very well.

I'll have her play for you someday.

Have you really fallen in love with Ms Ju?

Young Master Yue has a point.

Alive or dead, no body is found yet.

The one in the secret room, dead or alive,

is the most important key for a breakthrough.

Ms Ju.

Young Master Fei.

What are you doing here?

My second brother sent me.

What about my father?

Don't worry, Ms Ju.

I've taken care of that.

Master Ju should be occupied now.

Thank you, Young Master Fei.

Here comes your drink.

Thank you, boss. Thank you.

Enjoy your drinks.

My business hasn't been booming like this for such a long time.

Looks like I need to brew more wine.

Why hasn't she come yet?

Constable,

please wait for a moment.

Careful, Ms Ju.

Long Fei!

What took you so long to get her here?

-I... -You...

Forget it...

Constable,

please tell us the autopsy result.

After the autopsy,

it is confirmed that the deceased was poisoned.

In her house,

we found traces poisonous mushrooms...

in the bowl she usually used.

Was it an accident or murder?

We have investigated thoroughly.

Nothing suspicious was found at the scene.

So it's difficult to make any conclusion at the moment.

But Young Master Yue has mentioned before...

that the deceased had a son.

Yes.

Do you know where her son is?

That doesn't sound right.

If what Young Master Yue said is true,

then there is something odd about this.

The coroner has verified that...

the deceased is still a virgin.

She had never given birth before.

How is that possible?

But in the secret room...

Did you think of something, Young Master?

If the child in the secret room didn't belong to that maid,

then there are two possible scenarios.

The first is,

the maid lied.

She had attempted to swindle money from Lord Shi.

Things would be simple if that was the case.

But if it's the second scenario...

Just tell me, Young Master.

The second scenario is...

Lord Shi lied.

That maid...

was just a distraction.

He hid the child in the secret room...

to protect him...

and to hide him.

If that child is really Lord Shi's,

then he must be trying to protect the child's mother as well.

That's why the maid was just a bait.

Another possibility is...

if that child didn't belong to him,

then what was Lord Shi trying to hide?

Whether he's trying to protect the mother or the child,

their identities must be complicated...

that he's willing to risk his life.

Since that woman was a virgin,

I'm afraid...

even Tutor Deng doesn't know the truth.

I know you're desperate to find out the truth.

But keep this to yourself for now.

-Thank you for your trouble. -It's troubling indeed.

Even running a business...

is easier than this.

If not for you, would I have gone through the trouble?

I mean...

the music sheet.

Now that the case has come to a dead end,

why don't you focus on finishing the music sheet?

In case you wander off and I can't find you.

The case may have reached a dead end,

but there are still many unanswered questions.

It shouldn't be closed hastily.

I won't let my master die for nothing.

You have helped me a lot, Young Master Yue.

And about the sheet music,

I promise I'll give it to you.

It's just that the beheading is in three days.

Master's life is at stake.

Please give me two more days, Young Master.

You want to carry on with the investigation?

This matter is quite sensitive.

The last thing we need is you acting recklessly.

Besides, we have nothing to go on.

How are you going to continue?

Look at yourself,

do you think you can change anything?

Ms Ju, you're leaving?

Long Yue isn't walking you out?

Young Master Yue is busy with his work.

I shouldn't bother him any longer, I'll leave now.

Young Master Fei.

I have a question for you.

Please speak freely, Ms Ju.

I'm a reputable man in the martial arts world.

I can settle everything for you.

What kind of person is Young Master Yue?

My second brother?

He's an extremely stingy man.

If he was given a choice, he would rather be brothers with money.

He always acts like he doesn't care about all those trivial matters.

But you are an exception.

He seems to be giving you special attention.

This has never happened before.

Thank you for telling me.

About our conversation today,

please don't tell Young Master Yue.

Of course.

I get it.

I shall get going now.

Long Fei.

How much money did you give that constable?

-Ten bucks. -That's a lot.

Long Yue, it wasn't easy for him to come here.

He deserved that reward.

Do you think money comes easily?

You're such a spendthrift.

Listen, I'm going to deduct it from your allowance.

Brother, Ms Ju just asked me about what kind of person you are.

Guess what I told her.

What did you tell her?

I said good things about you, of course.

Our whole family is relying on you.

You're heroic and enthusiastic.

Especially in helping Ms Ju.

You must have said something else.

I said nothing.

Come back here now.

If you don't tell me the truth, I'll stop giving you your monthly allowance.

I won't give you a penny.

Long Yue,

be honest with me.

What have you done to Ms Ju?

What do you mean by that? Don't talk nonsense.

Am I?

Then why did Ms Ju ask me about you?

And she asked me not to tell you.

I think she has a secret crush on you.

She's too shy to confess her feelings.

Stop talking nonsense.

The reason Ms Ju asked you about me...

was because she wanted to see if...

I would continue to help her investigate.

But it's inconvenient for her to travel around right now...

due to her eyes.

Not to mention, she is powerless.

So she needs someone to back her up.

But out of politeness,

she felt that she couldn't bother me.

Hence your conversation.

Is that so?

-That's not how I heard it. -You...

Anyway, Ms Ju asked you to keep it to yourself.

Yet you told me almost immediately.

You're really a man of integrity.

But I thought this case has reached a dead end?

Is Ms Ju not giving up?

No matter how hard she tries,

Shi Bo Yin is still going to sign the statement.

That's the hard evidence.

He wishes to die.

No one could change his mind.

What are you going to do then?

Watch Ms Ju risk her own safety?

Why are you so anxious?

You have come up with a plan, haven't you?

Master,

I'm here to see you.

Mu'er, your eyes...

Master.

Master,

since you care about Mu'er,

then why did you plead guilty to a crime you didn't commit?

I pleaded guilty because I am guilty.

I've said it before.

I've cut off all ties with you.

We're no longer master and student.

You didn't have to come.

Stop trying to provoke me, Master.

No matter what you say,

I will never believe...

you did that.

Master, since you said you're guilty,

how do you prove it?

Stop wasting time.

Go home.

Master,

I've discovered Shi family's secret room.

You only came back for this person, didn't you?

What are you blabbering about?

It's none of your business.

Even if you attempt to overturn the verdict,

I won't thank you for that.

Leave now!

Master,

what is the reason for you to do this?

Did you not know about the room,

or that there was a child in it?

Leave now, leave!

Master.

This...

is medicine for you.

I'll put it on the floor.

Master,

I won't give up on you.

I've warned you before.

Don't let her visit him.

This problem arose...

due to your hesitation in handling things.

I allowed Ju Mu'er to see him...

only because I wanted to find out what she knows.

If this girl continues to investigate further,

she'll have to be eliminated.

If that day really comes...

I'll kill her myself.

Xiang Yun Teahouse

Brother Yun.

It's only been a few days,

and you've learnt to identify people by sound.

Looks like my concern was unnecessary.

You're flattering me, Brother Yun.

Fortunately, I've learned to play music by ear.

Otherwise, I would feel really helpless.

The current condition...

is not all that bad after all.

By the way,

how did you know I am here, Brother Yun?

You always come here alone when you're upset.

We've practised the qin for years.

I know this much.

I didn't see you in the Ju Wine House just now.

So I thought I could try my luck here.

I guess this is our tacit understanding.

Are you still worried about Shi Bo Yin's case?

I didn't thank you last time, Brother Yun.

Thanks to your advice.

We found out that...

the child might be Lord Shi's son.

But the case has become complicated,

we're not sure how to proceed.

Speaking of which,

it's really a pity.

The last descendant of Shi family...

was unable to survive.

Lord Shi and I...

were friends that bonded over music.

If it wasn't for his introduction,

I wouldn't have gained Lord Ding's appreciation.

It wasn't that simple actually.

We found Tutor Deng.

From him, we found out that the child...

belonged to Lord Shi and a maid.

When we arrived at the scene,

the maid had been dead for days.

And the coroner confirmed that...

that maid wasn't the child's mother.

Is that all you've found out?

I've been thinking about it.

I feel there's something strange about it.

But I can't figure it out.

Now that you're here, Brother Yun,

help me figure it out.

The weather is nice today.

Let's talk a walk together.

We'll talk about it on the way.

Careful.

Let me help you.

It's fine.

There is still a long journey ahead.

You can't help me forever, Brother Yun.

Moreover,

I can still see a little bit.

I'm not totally blind.

During our investigation, we found that...

it's really suspicious that Lord Shi paid...

a lot of money for the maid to pretend as the child's mother.

But what was the real reason behind his action?

Your analysis sounds plausible.

Maybe that child's real mother...

came from a prestigious family.

Lord Shi didn't want anyone to know.

In case others used that against him.

The living condition in that secret room was not bad.

If this girl continues to investigate further,

she'll have to be eliminated.

It didn't look like a temporary shelter.

It looked like someone had lived there for some time.

But not for long term.

Could it really be like what Young Master Yue said?

There is another possibility?

That child didn't belong to Lord Shi.

Brother Yun...

Have you thought of anything?

Everything we say here...

is just speculation. We have no evidence.

It'll be impossible for you...

to overturn the case just based on these speculations.

Don't forget, Mu'er,

this case's presiding judge is the eldest son of Long, Long Teng.

He made a military order oath in front of the emperor.

If the case is overturned now,

it's no different from digging his own grave.

What he wants...

is to close the case as soon as possible.

No wonder.

No wonder Young Master Yue didn't seem too eager about it.

He found a clue,

yet he asked me to keep it to myself.

I guess he's worried about getting Long family involved.

He's worried his brother would be punished by the emperor.

But what if he is wrongly convicted?

Are they just going to execute an innocent man?

Conflicts are inevitable in the officialdom.

It's beyond our control,

let alone judge it from the sense of right and wrong.

These days,

with Long family's power in the capital,

they can't afford any mistakes,

nor allow anyone...

to point out their mistake.

Even though I don't understand about the conflicts,

but believe that...

justice should prevail in this world.

I joined the officialdom...

in order to uphold justice.

I was ordered to supervise the case.

If I don't stand up for you now,

how am I still worthy of serving as an official?

Long Residence

Long Teng.

Why are you so free today?

You're home early.

Not just today,

I'll be free everyday after today.

What happened?

In the court today,

Yun Qing Xian filed a complaint against me...

in front of all officials.

He accused me...

of misconduct and failure in performing my duty.

The emperor was furious after reading his memorandum.

I got suspended immediately.

I don't even need to supervise the execution tomorrow.

Ministry of Justice will take care of it.

I wonder what Yun Qing Xian...

is trying to do.

It's just baffling.

No wonder he's Lord Ding's favourite pupil.

He's started to get rid of his opponents despite being newly-appointed.

Paving the way for himself.

However,

what did he complain about...

that has made His Majesty so furious?

It was Shi family's case.

He accused me for withholding information and hiding evidence.

It's absolutely absurd.

Though what he had said...

were only written in the memorandum.

I had no way of knowing.

I see.

He must have gotten the information from Ju Mu'er.

I had intended to report to His Majesty...

that there are still unanswered questions in Shi Bo Yin's case.

The execution should be postponed...

until the truth is figured out.

Now this happened.

Yun Qing Xian has beaten me to it...

and even casted doubt on me.

Now I'm kicked out of this case completely.

This is so stupid.

My effort to draw out the mastermind has backfired.

Yun Qing Xian now has full advantage.

We've lost in every way.

On what basis do you believe that...

the missing body in the secret room is the key to the case?

Come with me.

Take a look.

This is the secret room in the study of Shi Residence.

Secret Room

On the day of the incident,

over 30 people in the house...

were killed in the blink of an eye.

Only the body in the secret room was missing.

In your opinion,

why was the body of the child the only one missing?

Maybe...

he's still alive.

He managed to escape.

No.

That murderer came prepared.

If I'm not wrong,

that child was his real target.

While the massacre at Shi Residence was just a cover-up.

Since they intended to kill the child,

why did they come back and take the body away?

It means that the identity of the child is complicated.

So complicated that they couldn't even let anyone see his body.

What about Shi Bo Yin?

He came back for the Fuxi Score.

If he didn't kill anyone,

why did he sign the statement?

Or...

is Shi Bo Yin the murderer?

And he has an accomplice?

I guess...

he has his reasons.

Long Teng,

who in the world...

would confess to the great sins of murdering a whole family...

when he didn't do it?

There is only one possibility.

To protect someone who's alive.

That's the only way...

he could set the real murderer's mind at ease.

But no one in Shi family survived.

So in this case,

who is he trying to protect?

Now that's the question.

At the moment,

we have yet to find out who the child's mother is.

Maybe she is the key to solve this case.

Your analysis...

does make some sense.

But Shi Bo Yin is going to be executed tomorrow.

Without any proof,

how are we going to save him?

Don't worry, brother.

I've got a plan.

I gave Long Fei a task.

Right now, we just need to wait...

for the mastermind to give himself away.

And then we'd win without a fight.

All right, Long Teng.

I've got some stuff to do, I shall get going.

Where are you going at a time like this?

Long Teng, you're upright and big-hearted.

But I, Long Yue, love to settle scores.

Please come in.

Mu'er, Young Master Yue is here to see you.

I appreciate your concern, Young Master Yue.

My daughter is too naive.

I would like to apologise on Mu'er's behalf.

Never mind.

Mu'er,

Young Master Yue is here to see you, don't be rude.

Why would a nobleman like you come here for?

Watch your mouth.

Father.

Master Ju,

I see that your business is going really well.

Why don't you go ahead and do what you have to?

I'll talk to Mu'er in private.

I'll leave you two be.

I've got a taste of Ju family's wine.

It's really sweet.

I wonder if Shi Bo Yin's last glass of wine...

before execution tomorrow is as sweet as this.

Don't push your luck, Young Master Yue.

Even without your help,

I'll still figure something out to overturn my master's case.

You asked Yun Qing Xian for help, didn't you?

Do you know...

my brother was going to propose to His Majesty...

to postpone the case...

until everything is figured out?

But Yun Qing Xian...

got in the way and filed a complaint.

You're lying.

Brother Yun is like my own brother.

He must've done that to protect my master.

Could it be...

Brother Yun has ruined Long family's promising future?

What Yun Qing Xian ruined...

wasn't the promising future of our Long family.

But...

the life of your master,

Shi Bo Yin.

Clearly, the Long family refused to take action.

How can you still justify yourself after that?

Brother Yun has said...

he would continue to investigate the case.

He'll clear my master's name.

Brother Yun said that?

Yun Qing Xian...

is just trying to steal the credit and get promoted.

Do you know...

who is supervising the execution tomorrow?

It's your...

Brother Yun, Yun Qing Xian.

Where are you going?

I'll ask Brother Yun myself.

He's not that kind of person.

Have it your way.

But I'm afraid before you get the answers,

your master would've already been beheaded.

Young Master Yue, since you're here,

that must mean you have a way, right?

Please help my master.

I'm probably indebted to you in my previous life.

I've dispatched my men...

to set up a trap in the city.

They'll spread...

a message to look for Lord Shi's son.

But...

we have never seen that child.

What is your plan?

That's exactly why.

It showed that the mastermind is threatened...

by the existence of Lord Shi's son.

You're trying to draw him out.

But I doubt the mastermind would be easily fooled.

Will they really fall for such a simple trick?

The simpler it is,

the more it would frighten the guilty one.

Let's spice things up a bit.

Young Master Yue, you'll need to find a boy to pose as Lord Shi's son.

I'll leave the city to find Tutor Deng...

to put on a good show.

We'll do both things simultaneously.

They'll definitely give themselves away.

I'm impressed that...

you've improved so much in such short time.

All right,

we'll act separately.

Given the stakes,

this time,

you must not tell...

your Brother Yun about this.

I understand.

How about this?

I'll send someone to go with you.

To protect you.

Just in case.

Thank you, Young Master.

-Greetings, Chief. -Greetings, Chief.

I've given you a task. How is it going?

Don't worry, Chief.

We've taken care of it.

Here.

-"Missing person notice." -Everyone, take a look.

"Looking for a boy, seven years old."

"With injuries, wearing ripped clothes."

"Connected to the murder of Shi family."

"Now stranded in the city."

"Whoever spots this boy,"

"report it to the magistrate's office immediately."

"He shall be rewarded with gold."

"Whoever hides him shall be executed."

Chief,

what are we going to do with these notices?

Who is this boy?

You don't need to know who he is.

Just spread it in the capital.

Put up the notices.

Remember, the bigger the scene the better.

Also,

find some women who love gossiping to stir up the topic.

Chief, but...

the streets are full of boys this age.

-That's right. -How are we...

going to find this specific boy?

That's right.

-Yes, how are we going to find him? -There are so many kids.

How dare you question my order?

Are you the chief?

I won't dare to.

Anything you say, boss.

Could it be that...

the chief has done something bad behind us...

and he has become a father?

How disrespectful!

Where are your manners?

Calm down, Chief.

Xiao Hu is silly.

He's not good with words.

Chief has always been a virtuous man,

untained by the corrupted world.

Everyone in the capital knows that.

The only taint in his life...

was the courtesan,

Ms Feng'er from way back when.

It's a pity that Ms Feng'er...

left without saying goodbye.

Leaving him single and alone.

Never bring this up again.

Or else,

you'll be punched without mercy.

-Yes, mighty Chief. -Yes, mighty Chief.

Take this with you when you leave the city.

This medicine is good for your eyes.

Take it.

Could this medicine really cure my eyes?

Forget it if you don't believe me.

You misunderstood, Young Master Yue.

It isn't that I don't believe you.

Not only are you willing to help me...

clear my master's name,

you even spent a fortune to seek treatment for me.

I feel like I don't deserve this.

I'm glad you know.

Of course I know.

Even though I don't know much about medicine,

but I know that...

these medicine must have cost a lot.

So what?

I'm just afraid that it's ineffective.

Sorry.

You've wasted your money on me.

But don't worry.

Even if I could lose everything,

I, Long Yue, will be responsible til the end.

You don't have to, Young Master Yue.

I don't know how to repay your kindness.

Well...

Just finish the Fuxi Score as soon as possible.

That's the best thing you can do for me.

But you don't have to worry.

I've been in business for years.

I never dabble with disadvantageous deals.

All right.

Looks like I have been unnecessarily concerned.

You're still you, Young Master Yue.

Then I shall gladly accept this.

Thank you, Young Master,

Remember,

don't tire yourself out.

The poison could enter your lung.

It could worsen your condition.

I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks for your concern.

Jinlong Inn

Boss,

it's fine for us to paste the notice around.

But where are we going to...

get you a living boy?

Oh right,

we can just abduct one...

from the village nearby.

Good idea.

Right?

Young Master Fei,

our Jinlong Inn...

doesn't do illegitimate business.

Child trafficking is a crime.

If you all want to discuss about that, don't do it here.

If our business is affected, I might get blamed.

I can't afford that.

Forget I said anything.

Forget it.

My second brother came up with this ridiculous idea.

And we have to get him what he asked.

Where am I going to find a child for him?

If you had married the courtesan back then,

your son would have been a big boy now.

Then we wouldn't have to worry about this.

You... Still talking about that?

Don't you dare run.

Come here!

Father.

Who are you calling father, sir?

You. You're my father.

What?

Who are you?

Father,

are you short on cash?

What is this nonsense?

Where did you come from?

No way.

What you said is true?

Listen, kid.

You can't go around calling strangers "father."

-Where did the kid come from? -Who's the boy?

Chief,

don't you remember me?

The courtesan...

Xiao Bao, you got it right.

He is your father.

Dear God.

Are you kidding me?

Father!
