Marry Me

Episode 28

Young Master Yue.

No matter what happens,

promise me you'll never go off on your own.

I'll always be with you.

We've been through so much.

There's nothing to be afraid of.

But you... I won't you let you out of my sight ever again

Yun Qing Xian came to hunt for Ya Li Li.

I wanted to deal with him myself.

In the end, you're the one who did all the work.

Your affairs are my affairs.

Haven't you decided?

Decide on what?

Don't play dumb.

The other day,

you risked everything to save me, even injuring yourself.

It's my fault for dithering.

If anything terrible had happened to you,

I'd regret it for the rest of my life.

So you've decided?

You won't hide from me anymore?

You've even gotten the Emperor involved.

Where can I possibly hide?

I came here...

to fetch you back home.

Except the Empress Dowager herself,

no one can take you away from me.

We're getting married on the Emperor's orders.

So we can't skimp on the wedding.

I want to tell the world...

that you are my lawfully wedded wife.

So this time, you're going to town on our wedding?

Aren't you afraid of losing money?

Last time was only a sham.

This time's the real deal.

As long as I get to marry you, how can I lose?

It's just that...

What? Is there a problem?

It's just that given your...

spiteful, temperamental, unreasonable, insufferable nature,

even if I don't lose any money, I'd be in for a world of pain.

I think you're just bitter about last time.

I know losing out hurts,

but can't you be a gentleman about it?

For you, I'm willing to lose out my whole life.

Long Residence

Congratulations.

-Congratulations. -Congratulations.

-Welcome. -Welcome.

-Come on in. -Welcome. Please come in.

-Congratulations. -Come on in.

Prosperous Family

-Congratulations. -Congratulations.

Thanks.

Thank you.

-Please come in. -Please come in.

Thank you.

Congratulations.

If I can't have you...

no one can.

My dear,

I've prepared a wedding gift for you.

How mysterious.

What gimmick is it this time?

You'll like it for sure.

These are silkworm qin strings.

Although I don't play the qin,

I know how hard it is to find good strings.

They'll come in handy.

You won't want any other strings.

In addition,

just tell any qin shop your name,

and they'll supply you with top-notch strings for free.

Thanks, Young Master.

As for the second gift, you'll have to unwrap it yourself.

Shi Bo Yin's Complete Works

This...

is a collection of your late master, Shi Bo Yin's compositions.

It took me ages, searching high and low,

Shi Bo Yin's Complete Works

to find all 28 pieces.

Now, they're all joined into one neat volume.

It's the only copy in the world.

Young Master Yue,

thank you.

I never expect...

you'd be so thoughtful to me.

Such a precious gift.

I'll cherish it for the rest of my life.

It's just that...

I didn't prepare any gifts for you.

I hope you don't mind?

I'm happy as long as you stay by my side.

No matter what happens,

we'll face it together.

People used to tell me,

you can't write "heaven" without "husband". Husband comes first.

But I disagree.

I think home is where the wife is.

So...

as long as you're with me,

I'll be in a safe, warm place.

Young Master Yue.

Long Residence

It's you?

Don't you know the capital is a deathtrap waiting to snap shut?

Why did you come back?

Compared to your lies,

no deathtrap...

is as vicious...

or cruel.

Ju Mu'er.

I was wrong about you.

I thought you were kind and honest.

Turns out you were taking me for a ride all along.

What do you mean?

If you have a problem, just tell me.

He didn't love me.

That's why he kept the truth from me.

All this time, I was the only one in the dark.

He didn't die.

Who...

didn't die?

Drop the act!

Where's your master?

Tell him to come out.

No...

It's impossible.

I know.

You're back for my master's qin, is that it?

Not the qin.

Him.

Your master...

still lives.

Li Li, it is you!

I thought you were gone for good.

Why did you come back to danger?

What's the meaning of this?

You promised to take me to Bo Yin.

What?

Ju Mu'er, what's going on here?

She's not like herself.

Is it possible her obsession has turned into delirium?

Li Li.

Shi Bo Yin's long dead. You know that.

Why are you looking for him?

See?

Even if the whole world is lying to you,

he'd never utter a word of untruth to you.

The dead...

can't come back to life.

Everyone witnessed my master's death.

Can everyone be wrong?

It's all a lie.

I assure you, he's not dead.

Bo Yin is still alive. I saw him with my own eyes.

You saw him?

I heard the qin.

I followed that sound.

And I actually saw Bo Yin.

Since then, I've had no luck in locating him.

So, I've come back to the capital...

just to verify it with you.

I thought you'd know, of all people.

In this world,

besides you,

Bo Yin trusts no one.

No...

There's someone else.

Could it be her?

Where are you going?

The Emperor is certain you're the murderer.

Going out there is suicide.

I won't leave.

I won't give up so long there's a ray of hope.

Bo Yin may very well be alive.

Ya Li Li, come to your senses.

If my master is alive and well,

I'd be the first to look into it.

But now,

you must get out of the capital.

I know the capital is a dangerous place to be.

I don't want to bring you any trouble, either.

But I must find out what I can about Bo Yin.

Trust me.

I'll get to the bottom of it.

But you said there's someone else who knew my master well.

Who is she?

Do you know a lady in the palace...

by the name of Ji Yan?

Jiayi Palace

Who is it?

It's me, Ju Mu'er.

Ms Ju.

Why are you dressed like that?

I'm officially a Qin Master of the Music Bureau.

I've come to visit you before the recital at the palace.

Come on in.

Young Master Yue is okay with you working as an official here?

Young Master Yue is a reasonable man.

He supports me wholeheartedly.

Then again, without Lord Hua's help,

I wouldn't have gotten this position.

So, is there anything in particular that brought you here today?

Actually, I wish to ask you about a certain someone.

In my ten odd years at the palace,

I've always kept to myself.

I have no close friends to speak of.

What about...

Ya Li Li?

Do you know her, Sister Ji?

Why, she's that convict who's on the lam right now.

I've heard of her from the other people in the palace.

But she told me she knows you.

And she asked me find out something for her.

I don't know anyone named Ya Li Li.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Ms Ju, if that's all you're here for,

please leave.

In the future, shall I call you Sister Ji...

or...

Your Highness?

To think there's a former Ximin princess living right in the palace.

Why haven't you told me before?

It's because...

I didn't want to admit I've lost to her.

Until now, Bo Yin has never accepted me.

In his life,

he had only ever loved one woman.

Do you think Ju Mu'er's trip...

will uncover anything?

Whether Shi Bo Yin is dead or alive now,

all the things that had happened since he came to the capital...

must be related to Ji Yan.

I am but a refugee...

eking out a living in the palace thanks to the Empress' graces.

That's right.

Ya Li Li and Shi Bo Yin are old friends of mine.

I have nothing to hide.

I just hate to bring up the past.

Are you really the princess of Ximin?

When Father lost the war,

the Ji dynasty crumbled.

To survive until now...

is all I could hope for.

My lineage, my family are but a distant memory.

I only wish...

to live out the rest of my life in peace.

Do you know nothing about my master's death and his reason for coming back?

Ms Ju.

You think too highly of me.

Honestly, I don't know anything about it.

And please tell Ya Li Li...

that the princess of Ximin is dead.

The woman who lives in the palace today is but a humble maid named Ji Yan.

If there's nothing else I can help you with,

please leave.

I have work to do.

Thanks for the help.

I wanted to use your position as a qin master to befriend Consort Li,

and to use her power to topple Consort Shu.

Unfortunately, Consort Li died before her time.

I yearn for nothing...

but my child's safety.

I have done Shi Bo Yin wrong.

But I had no other choice.

Wasn't Shu Bo the one who caused Consort Li's death?

Ya Li Li may have been involved, but she was not the murderer.

How could Shu Bo be reinstated overnight...

while Ya Li Li became the Emperor's most wanted criminal?

Anyway, the evidence is there.

As for the details,

laymen have no right to question the law.

I know,

you aren't allowed to disclose the details of the case.

I won't force you to.

But Mu'er's safety...

I can't let others threaten her, can I?

Please understand, Long Teng.

You've always been a calm and meticulous person.

Why are you so shaken up when it comes to Mu'er?

Were you any calmer when it came to Shu Ruo Chen?

You...

You have a tough job.

So tough that you're always wound up.

I know you well, Long Teng.

When it comes to love,

none of us brothers can keep our heads.

The trade route to Ximin has been robbed for the third time this month.

The local merchant guilds are getting restless.

They're considering cutting business ties with us for fear of being robbed.

Looks like I need to go down there myself.

Don't, Young Master.

I'll send someone.

It's dangerous to go.

You blockhead. Even you said it's dangerous.

If I don't go and sort things out, who will?

One robbery is coincidence.

Two or three has got to be a conspiracy.

The merchant guilds are no idiots.

They must've gotten wind of something.

But once the precedence is set,

other guilds will follow suit.

At this rate,

we'll lose more than the Ximin trade route.

Besides,

other businesses will also be impacted.

Li Ke, pack my luggage.

I'm taking Mu'er with me.

Still, you can't solve the root of the problem.

Back up.

Are you thinking there's no way you'd make such a dangerous trip,

so you're running away with your wife?

Shut up. Go pack my things.

-Mr Tie, go with him. -Sure.

Come on.

Let's go.

Looks like this is the only way to keep Mu'er out of danger.

Long Residence

Young Master Yue, have some fruit.

Maybe later.

By the way,

our business has run into some difficulties.

There's something I need to take care of.

Would you be willing to come with me?

We just had our wedding.

I'd hate to leave our home for such tedious reasons.

But this concerns the profitability of half of our shops.

I have to go.

Besides...

I don't want you to be alone.

Of course I can come along.

But I need a few days...

to sort out some things at the palace.

I'll ask the palace to give you a leave right now.

You can't.

Although I'm married,

I can't neglect my career, can I?

No way am I going to be too dependent on my husband.

You keep your nose out of the palace.

What if you ruin my bright future there?

Fine.

You're the best wife there is.

Not only are you self-sufficient,

you bring glory to the family.

So my dear,

when shall we set out?

We can set out once I finish my task.

By the way, where are we heading?

Ximin.

Xiao Bao.

Xiao Bao.

Your father is in a bit of a jam.

Only you can help me.

My hero.

Will you lend me a hand?

Father, you're an adult.

You should be more independent.

Don't always run to others when you meet an obstacle.

But I...

I'm asking for your mother's sake, too.

You see,

this job is too big for me to handle alone.

But with your help, we could knock it out of the park.

Then, I can marry your mother in style.

Xiao Bao, don't you want your mother to be happy and content?

You mean she's not happy now?

No... of course not.

But we can make her happier.

Xiao Bao,

you saw Uncle Yue's wedding, didn't you?

I must give your mother a better wedding than that.

But Uncle Teng is a cunning and unscrupulous jerk.

He wants to beat me to the punch.

I can't let him win.

Uncle Teng is getting old.

You ought to give in to him.

No...

Your mother's getting old too.

I'm sure she can wait a couple of years.

Besides, you're still young.

There's no rush.

Young Master, are you dead set on not helping me?

Fine. I'll try my best.

Xiao Bao, I need you to...

Jiayi Palace

Greetings, Empress Dowager.

Greetings, Consort Shu.

Call her "mother" from now on.

Come to mother.

Mother.

Good boy.

Congratulations on having a son, Noble Consort.

Congratulations on having a son, Noble Consort.

Now that you've finally adopted a prince,

a burden has been lifted off my chest.

This boy will one day become the emperor.

Educate him well, Noble Consort.

Don't let me or the Emperor down.

You're absolutely right, Your Majesty.

I'll take good care of the prince with my own hands...

and treat him as my own.

Thank you for this precious gift, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty,

the Little Prince's study partners are waiting outside,

ready to be hand-picked by you and His Majesty.

Let's drink.

My son's really put my family on the map this time.

Being the prodigy that he is,

he's been selected to become the Little Prince's study partner.

Who, in the whole of the capital, is as talented as my son?

-You said it. -Like father like son.

He must've inherited your brains as well as your brawn.

-Am I right? -Yeah.

-What a great father Chief is. -Yeah.

-A toast to the Chief. -Cheers, Chief.

How could you send Xiao Bao to the palace without asking me?

You should've consulted me at the very least.

How could you go your own way?

I...

Xiao Bao is my son.

I am the third young master of the Longs.

What's wrong with setting my son up for success?

Come here.

Did you have to show me up like that?

Can't you see my pals are here?

Xiao Bao is my son.

You have no right.

Nonsense!

Xiao Bao is a Long.

I'm his father.

Can't I guide him?

You'll never understand.

Anyway, he mustn't go to the palace.

I did it all because of you.

If he wins the royal family's favour and makes us proud,

wouldn't it make our wedding more glamourous?

If you don't get it, fine.

There's no need to be harsh.

Young masters, time to change.

Thank you, ma'am.

It's you?

You know me?

I remember you.

My uncle was protecting me the other day.

Were you hurt?

I know your uncle did it for your own good.

That night was an emergency.

How come I've never heard Young Master Fei getting married...

and having such a clever, cute boy like you?

I'm Long Bao.

My mother's maiden name is Feng Wu.

Feng Wu?

What's the matter? Do you know my mother?

It's not unusual for people to have the same name.

Perhaps...

it's only a coincidence.

Come, young master.

Let's get you changed.

I...

How old are you?

On what day were you born?

Mother told me...

not to tell anyone my birth date.

You were born...

on the 18 of the twelfth lunar month.

It was a cold...

and snowy night.

How did you know?

What's the matter?

Your mother was right.

She gave you the right advice.

You must remember...

not to tell anyone your birth date, understand?

Announcing, the Noble Consort.

Greetings, Noble Consort.

I was just passing by...

and thought I'd drop in and see the candidate.

At ease.

Thank you, Noble Consort.

What is your name?

Your Highness, my name is Long Bao.

Do you know why you are here?

I do.

I'm here to become the Prince's study partner.

As Father said,

we're masters of our destiny.

Work earnestly, improve endlessly.

In the palace, the Prince will be my role model.

Not bad.

You are quite mature for someone your age.

Good luck on your test.

I'll watch you with great interest.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Lord Hua.

Appreciate the help.

I've come here specially to escort you to the palace.

Specially?

The Prince's study partner is judged...

mainly on poetry, literature...

and mastery of the classics.

Music study comes second.

You could very well invigilate by yourself.

Why do you need me to come along?

I disagree.

Music study is an important component of the test.

The selection of the Prince's study partner is a matter of great importance.

Besides, I think this would be a great learning opportunity for you.

I might put you in line for the position of Master Musician.

Long Residence

After a lifetime of searching,

I finally figured out what I want out of life.

Sounds like...

you've really discovered your purpose in life.

After this, I'll leave the capital with Li Li.

We'll settle down somewhere quiet where no one will disturb us,

away from the worries of the world.

Well, I'm afraid Ya Li Li has a different idea.

All because of Shi Bo Yin.

He's dead, yet his presence lingers.

Why couldn't he take Li Li's affection to his grave?

Lord Hua,

that's my master you're talking about.

At the end of the day,

I can't even amount to a dead man in your eyes.

I've asked my men to find out where your master is buried.

We might get an answer in a couple of days.

For real?

Thanks, Lord Hua!

Let's go.

Mu'er.

I have a favour to ask you.

Prosperous Family

I understand the palace is holding a test...

to choose the Prince's study partner,

and you're in charge of the music portion.

I need you to make Xiao Bao fail...

and keep him away from the palace.

Why do you sound so nervous?

What's going on?

Xiao Bao's life is more important than mine.

Please. I'm counting on you.

Stop.

I've heard enough.

He's the nephew you've been tutoring?

Xiao Bao is young. His talent is limited.

Not just limited.

But a downright disaster.

Your blockhead of a father made a mistake.

We'll teach him a lesson back home.

Actually, he did it all for you.

Don't be mad at him.

Come.

By the way,

I met a kind servant girl at the palace today.

-She was the... -Third Young Mistress.

Third Young Mistress, you're finally back.

Someone's looking for you.

An old friend, she said.

She's waiting for you in the hall.

Okay.

Give Xiao Bao some food.

Okay.

Time to eat!

Excuse me, you are...

Thankfully the Empress Dowager let me out to acquire some goods...

or I wouldn't be able to come.

But I don't have much time.

Feng Wu,

there's a question I must ask you.

It's about Long Bao.

Bo Yin...

Why did he entrust him to you?

And why did he send you to the Long family?

At first,

I wasn't aware of Xiao Bao's true identity.

It wasn't until Shi Bo Yin returned to the capital...

that he told me the truth.

I've come to the capital to aid him.

But things didn't turn out as expected.

My only option was to seek refuge with the Longs, keeping Xiao Bao safe,

lest anyone discovers his identity.

But Xiao Bao is my son.

I've lost one child already.

I can't let anything bad happen to Xiao Bao.

If you two stay in the capital,

you'll run into trouble eventually.

Like today's mishap...

How could you have prevented it?

But...

Your Highness,

have you ever considered what kind of life Xiao Bao wants?

He wants to be with his family.

He doesn't want to be a fatherless child.

Even if I take him back to Ximin,

given my status,

wouldn't keeping him by my side...

arouse more suspicion?

I don't care.

I can only live on for Xiao Bao's sake.

You must leave the capital with him.

What's taking him so long?

What's taking him so long?

-Lord Long. -Lord Long.

What took you so long?

You mustn't go home.

I can't put you in harm's way.

Given your father's temper,

if you go home, you might not be able to come out again.

I'm not going back by myself this time.

Since my father already knows I'm here,

what do I have to hide for?

Why not waltz right in?

While we're at it, I can tell him how I really feel...

and get him off our backs.

I guess you're right.

You should thank him too for bringing you up.

But no matter what his decision may be,

I'm taking you back to Long Residence today.

It will be your new home from now on.

The Long Residence?

But we...

What are you afraid of?

We'll get married eventually.

Besides, we're no sticklers for formalities.

More importantly,

there's no place as safe as Long Residence right now.

Only by keeping you at my side...

will I feel secure.

Shu Residence

Come.

Shu Residence

Father, Long Teng and I have something to tell you about.

I understand.

I wouldn't have escape prison unscathed...

if Lord Long hadn't cracked the case...

and bring Ding Sheng to justice.

I give credit where credit's due.

I'll never forget Long family's kind deed.

I was only doing my duty.

You're innocent after all.

You deserved...

a fair treatment.

Today, I've come here to talk about...

Ruo Chen.
