[The Wolf]

[Episode 4]

Wen Yan.

Sir.

Look for a place to rest.

Yes, sir!

Soft and Juicy!

Buns!

Master,

How about we have some tea

while resting?

Meat Buns!

Candied Haws!

Notifying the princesss.

The young lord from Tong Zhou City,

Young lord Gu requests to see you.

The young lord must be here for a marriage proposal.

Our princess is terribly sick right now,

In that case, who is...

Alright.

I shall treat everyone equally.

How other suitors leave,

you experience the same too.

Young lord,

this way, please.

There are three wooden boxes here.

Only one has colour butterflies in it.

Please answer the question, Young Lord.

Does the Princess like butterflies?

And what of it?

Our Princess love flowers and greenery,

butterflies and wind.

She love everything in this world.

My lord will never be able to impress her.

Please leave.

There are no butterflies in any of these boxes.

I believe I am correct.

All three boxes have strong camphor smell,

it must have been made from Camphor wood.

However, butterflies are extremely afraid of camphor smell.

Once they get in,

they will never live for long.

If the Princess truly loves butterflies,

then she will never place them inside.

Everything in this world,

as long as you look into it carefully,

you will gain answer from it.

Also,

I did not come here for a proposal.

This letter is from my father,

who wishes to talk to the Castellan of Kui Zhou City,

about the granary relief.

Thus, addressing me to sent this mail.

He told me to hand this letter

to the Princess myself without fail.

My apologize for being rude earlier.

It was my mistake for not asking about your intention first.

Please forgive me, my lord.

I have heard that in the Ma Family,

a direct proposal is as hard as nails.

I certainly did experience the welcome today.

Cypress vine?

Good insight, my lord.

This is our princess’

favorite flower.

Well, I do not.

Cypress vines can only live by clinging against others.

It cannot live on its own.

Just like a man’s life,

who needs to cling onto others to live.

’Life’ is a personal thing.

We should not let ourselves,

be tied down because of others.

Since the letter has been received,

I shall take my leave.

Young lord, you have come from afar,

why not take a rest in the manor

while drinking some mint tea?

It is the flavor of our Princess’

favorite tea.

Much appreciated.

But since the princess use a difficult box question

to chase someone away,

then she must really not want to be disturbed.

I am also not someone

who likes to trouble others.

I shall leave.

Princess,

that young lord from Tong Zhou is not a bad choice.

Pretty knowledgeable,

have his own ideas and personality.

Neither overbearing nor overbearing.

Plus, he is unpretentious.

You think too much.

He is a taken man.

There is no need for him to fawn over

other ladies in the first place.

No.

I have look into him.

He is the same as you.

Each day, he is either training the soldier,

or dealing with politics.

He has the admiration of many ladies,

but he always use busy affairs as a reason

to reject them

What a cold blooded man.

Why don’t you

you marry him?

Princess!

The young lord,

is the best man that I have seen.

He is correct.

no one should let

themselves be tied up forever, right?

Otherwise, do you plan to become a cat lady,

as you wait many years

for Wolfie who has never contacted you

to come back?

When he fell into the valley,

you searched for him relentlessly,

until all your health was ruined.

Your wounded legs,

was not even properly healed.

If if he is still alive...

he would have appeared earlier.

If possible...

How much I hoped that

the one who fell down the valley wounded that year, was me.

I do not wait.

Nor do I have the qualifications to.

He trusted me so much,

yet I betrayed him.

If he was not dead,

he must have leave far.

Away from me...

who was the misfortune in his life.

Forgetting about everything.

Princess, please do not blame yourself.

You chased him away back then

due to the circumstances.

Not out of your own volition.

Whether it was my own volition or not was not important.

He, who was oblivious about everything,

must have truly been hurt.

If he is still alive,

I just hope that he can live a peaceful life.

Like in the past when he love to eat meat buns,

love to steal candies haws from others.

That he still believes

all the good and kind in this world.

If...

there is a virtuous woman

by his side,

unlike me,

who is arrogant,

that would be even better.

How come it turn into

me, the princess, comforting you?

Dealing with those young lords,

is really extra frustrating.

Let’s go.

Accompany me for a walk.

Incidentally, let’s buy a gift for daddy on the way,

to please him when he returns.

Yes.

Two buns, please.

Here.

Thank you for your purchase.

Please enjoy it.

Buns!

Delicious Buns!

Master,

do you want to et something?

Those meat buns look good.

I will go buy some for you.

I am not hungry.

Buns!

- Candied Haws! - Come buy the Buns!

Candied Haws!

Delicious Buns!

Candies Buns!

Fresh meat buns!

Have a candies haws!

I heard that Kui Zhou City’s candies haws

are very famous.

Should we have some candied haws?

If you are that bored,

then go look for something to do.

Are you an idiot?

The master eating candied haws,

do you not think that image would be good?

Master!

Interesting.

Interesting, interesting.

This shop posted an advertisement stating,

"It’s free!"

Honorable guests,

please do not misunderstand.

Beside it,

there is an anagram.

It was left by our Princess Ma

during the lantern festival last year

when she pass by here.

Only those who solved the mystery

can eat for free.

[Looking at my mate,]

[his leg has four toes.]

[He has the appearance of a beast but a kind heart,]

[a suitable person as my husband.]

Guess a word.

What word is it?

Master, I have found it.

There is a Wan An Restaurant in front,

we can stay there.

"Wolf."

Guest?

The answer to the mystery is "Wolf".

But a wolf does not have four toes on all of its legs.

Really?

Your Princess thought she understand wolves,

but not everything.

Someone who is a show off.

Not to mention arrogant.

Wen Yan, Wen Yan!

Is the answer to the mystery really a "Wolf"?

The word "Wolf",

has a beast on the left,

and the word "Kind" from "Kindness" on the right.

Meaning it has the appearance of a beast with a kind heart.

Also, the "Kind" could mean "Beloved".

Otherwise known as "Mate" or "Husband".

It seems like the master guessed it right.

Quick, let’s follow him.

Stop chit-chatting.

We guessed the answer.

So it is free, right.

Just as I thought.

Anyone who tries,

has no mysteries they could not solve.

Princess!

Princess!

Princess.

Uncle Liu,

how is the business these days?

Thanks to the Princess help,

it is doing very well.

I need to tell you, Princess,

that your anagram,

has just been solved earlier!

Just now, there is a young master

who actually answered the word "Wolf".

He surprisingly said,

wolves do have four toes on all of its legs.

He even said that the princess,

do not know everything about wolves.

It is true that not all the wolves’ legs have four toes.

Only their hind legs.

It looks like this person knows a lot about wolves.

Uncle Liu,

where is he?

I am willing to make friends with him.

I am afraid he has left.

I almost forgot to tell you

a good news.

Shopkeeper Fang’s Wan An restaurant

is inviting someone to play shadow puppets again.

I heard even the stage has been built.

Princess,

do you not like shadow puppets a lot?

Should we go take a look?

Fine.

Shopkeeper.

Coming, coming!

Honorable guests.

Will you be dining,

or staying the night?

Staying the night.

Prepare your first class wing.

My master,

does not like to be disturbed.

Your restaurant,

do not need to entertain guests for a while.

These money will be enough for you to last for a whole lifetime.

I have failed to see what is in front of me,

not realizing the visit of a VIP guest.

Honorable guests,

please follow the staff

to the second floor’s first class wing.

Please.

Honorable guests,

please follow me.

Shopkeeper Fang.

Princess.

Closing the store so early?

Lady Xiao Feng,

all the restaurant

has been reserved today.

That is why we

are closing the store.

Who would have thought that in a small city like Kui Zhou,

there is someone

who is willing to pay so much.

How about

we come back the next day,

Princess!

Shopkeeper Fang,

can’t you please accommodate?

The princess just want to take a look

at the shadow puppet’s stage.

Is that okay?

Of course I will accommodate for the princess.

This way please, Princess.

Thank you, Shopkeeper Fang.

We will not stay for long.

You should go do your job.

No need to mind me.

Alright.

Xiao Feng,

you should wait outside.

I want to be alone.

Yes, Ma’am.

The Wolf Hunt Mountain.

No matter what the price

I have to pay,

I can never exchange it back to

Xing Er and Wolfie, is it?

Master,

Ma Ying has returned.

The castellan has returned!

Make way!

The castellan has returned!

Make way!

Boys,

it is time to prepare supper.

Shopkeeper!

Who is playing the show a while ago?

It is my daughter,

Hong Er.

Hong Er?

Father.

Hong Er.

You are Hong Er?

Is it you who played the show earlier?

Hong Er,

tell the guest.

Don’t you like the story about

Wolfie and Xing Er since you are young?

Yes.

A huge fire many years ago,

turned her into this state.

The kids all laugh at her.

However,

since young she has always loved

the story about Wolfie and Xing Er.

She always said,

even Wolfie can find

Xing Er as his friend.

One day,

she will definitely find a true friend as well.

Father,

they all said Hong Er is a monster.

Preposterous.

Hong Er,

one day, definitely,

you will be like Wolfie.

You will find someone,

who really likes you.

If you are really thinking about your daughter’s wellbeing,

then tell her,

not to believe in this story.

Humans are unpredictable.

No matter who get close to your daughter,

they will one day betray her.

Ultimately, she will be the one who suffers.

If you do not want to get look down by other,

then force yourself to grow stronger.

Stronger than anyone else.

That is the rule of survival.

Father.

Dad has decide to retire.

Actually,

letting the court handle Ma Family’s Army,

to erase the king’s doubt,

have also regain

the reunion of our family in exchange.

Isn’t that a good thing?

Father is correct.

However,

Everyone knows that Ma Family’s army is resilient.

They only obey father’s orders.

If father decide to return your military power this time,

one must carefully consider

not to let the king

has any doubts on Ma Family Army’s loyalty.

Who would have thought,

that my daughter will have such clear thinking?

If you are a man,

you will definitely be a great help to father.

Unfortunately,

from now on, the Ma Family

can only take care of Kui Zhou City.

I prepare to,

officially hand down the position of the Castellan

to you and your brother.

Jun Er has followed me for many years,

and has grown a lot.

Now,

the person whom I am most worried about,

is you.

You could not possibly

stay in Kui ZHou City all your lives.

Father,

you know about me breaking off my marriage?

Zhai Xin,

do you still

hold grudges against me?

You purposely broke off your marriage,

and chase away all the marriage proposals.

Father knows everything about it.

If for this life,

you do not get married because of Wolfie,

then father,

can only owe you forever.

Father,

how can I hold grudges against you?

That year, you stopped me from saving Wolfie,

because you were worried about me incurring the wrath of the King.

It is I,

who owe you forever.

I only made you worry.

Are these all a talk from the heart?

Then promise father.

From today onwards,

forget about Wolfie.

Look for a good family

and give birth to many healthy kids.

Let father experience the feeling of being a grandfather,

playing with his grandchildren.

This is father’s,

only wish now.

Princess.

It is late,

why are you not asleep yet?

I have talked to the restaurant’s owner.

Xiao Feng knew Princess like this,

so I bought it.

Also,

I have found the person,

who solved the mystery of "Wolf".

The owner of the teahouse,

said he is staying in

a restaurant in the western side of town.

Princess, you want to get acquaintance with

that person who loves wolves, correct?

How about,

we look for him at the restaurant tomorrow?

Xiao Feng,

I will go tomorrow.

But that will be my last time,

doing something for Wolfie.

Princess, what is the matter?

Nothing.

All these times

I have been feeling remorse

about what happened that year.

But I forgot,

that maybe it will hurt father’s feelings.

It is time for me to let go.

If tomorrow, after meeting

the person who solve the mystery,

and he is not in any way connected to Wolfie,

then,

I will really give up.

From then on,

I will not utter anything about Wolfie.

Xiao Feng,

the person who solved the mystery

and love wolves,

is inside?

Princess, please go in.

Xiao Feng will not bother you.

Honorable guest,

are you the one who solve the anagram’s mystery?

Nay.

But what I wanted to solve the most,

is the burden in your heart.

It is you.

You and Xiao Feng must have plotted this together.

In that case,

excuse me for not playing along with you guys.

Princess, please wait.

Going on like this,

is just a worthless torture on yourself.

I understand that feeling.

Some past need to be forgotten, but is hard to do so.

Because I was once the same.

Xiao Feng told me,

You never let go of the copper bell

for the sake of one boy

who was friends with the wolves.

All these years, your heart has never been free.

It could not help but reminds me of

the person woman

I never forgets.

At that time, we had mutual feelings for each other,

yet she died of an illness.

That is why, the young lord

make yourself busy with work.

Never making acquaintance with any lady.

Young Lord,

you are someone full of empathy.

No.

I am an unfilial person.

Because of how I was,

even on her dead bed, my mother

was depressed.

She never stop worrying about me.

Does the princess

wish to follow in my footsteps

and regret things when they are too late?

Master,

I have increase the number of

night walkers dispatched from each states

to ten strong men.

They have now settled in Kui Zhou City.

Good.

Notify everyone.

Make sure to keep watch on Ma Ying’s actions.

Understood!

Father,

you and mother

have never told me

about how you guys met.

Cypress vines live by clinging onto others.

Mother adores it very much,

meaning she must believe in you

and cling onto you for a lifetime?

Cypress vines,

have another name,

known as "The Queen".

"The Queen"?

Are you saying that mother is the daughter of a king?

You can interpret it as your mother’s,

expectation for you.

She hoped that,

even though you are a woman,

you can still live like a king.

Within the Ma Family,

your mother rarely goes out,

and never get into a strife with anyone.

She is not a normal woman.

She was of noble birth,

born behind the doors.

Chu Kui knew that Wolfie has a kind heart,

and is worried that he would not be able to complete

the assassinating mission.

That is why he hide the orders of

assassinating the whole Ma Family from him.

Directly ordering the night walkers to do deed.

Do it!

Who is outside!

Father.

Zhai Xin,

stay inside.

Father will take a look outside.

Father!

Father!

Father!

Father, let me out!

Zhai Xin,

do not come out no matter what!

It is dangerous outside!

Father!

What in the world is happening?

Father!

Father!

Father!

Father!

Zhai Xin!

Father!

Leave!

Do not come over here!

Father!

Father!

Father!

Father!

Father!

Father!

Who are you guys?

The castellan’s family was massacred last night!

Look!

The general of Ma Family’s Army has returned!

General!

Where is the Castellan?

The- The castellan’s corpse is at the back.

I shall prepare the coffin right away.

Bring me to him!

Yes!

Yes!

Is there anyone who is still alive?

The young master and Madame’s corpse

have been confirmed.

Only,

Only the few burned bodies in the Princess’s room

are unidentifiable.

Everyone from the family have passed.

The Princess is most likely the same.

Who did it?

Such gruesome work...

My Lord.

We have arrived.

Castellan,

I have come late.

May the Castellan

bless me, Ma Xie Han,

to avenge your death.

Let the Ma Family’s Army think,

that the Country of Jin was the perpetrator.

The King of Jin!

Anyone here!

Present!

I will stay back here,

to arrange for the funeral of all Ma’s Family.

You depart as soon as you can,

and as fast as possible,

to report the issue,

to the court and Ma Family’s army.

Yes!

Master,

we did not act on our own last night.

It was the king.

He was worried about your attachment to Kui Zhou City.

Hence, without telling you,

he gave us

a second order.

Assassinate Ma Ying’s family.

Leave only Ma Zhai XIng alive.

Afterwards,

make the Country of Jin takes all the blame.

Master!

Master!

Master.

According to the King’s plan,

Ma Family’s army really did thought,

the assassination of Ma Ying this time,

the perpetrator behind it,

is the king of Jin.

You two, depart as soon as you can,

look closely at the Ma Family’s Army.

Then what about Ma Zhai Xin?

Me and Wen Yan will bring her back.

Yes.

We shall take our leave.

Master!

Princess Ma’s condition is not good.

Not only did she hit her head hard,

she also witness everything.

Such terrible emotional scar,

any normal person would stay unconscious for days.

or may even never woke up again.

I wanted to know of your methods!

How she will be able to wake up?

The herbs provided by temple’s abbot

is not enough.

However, I know of several herbs

which might works.

Then go fetch it.

Then...

Then the princess...

I will look after her.

Yes!

So you are Xing Er.

I regret it.

I regret being friends with you.

Regret taking you down the mountain.

Do you know that

you are a monster?

How can I

be friends with a monster?

If you do not leave soon,

I will sent someone to catch you,

catch your mother of wolf,

and your siblings of wolves.

Brute!

Go away!

Don’t you know?

Your Xing Er,

will never return.

Because this bell,

is what she gave me.

Wolfie

there is still a lot of good people in this world.

I believe in you.

You believe in me.

We believe in each other.

So you are Ma Family’s Princess.

No wonder that year,

you betray me and went to Ma Family’s soldiers.

Now, I am King Bo,

and you are of Ma Family.
