Wait, they're cutting him up just for stealing a container of water?

I cannot interfere with the business of Yangsucheong

since they are self-ruling.

If I take out a prisoner when this does not fall under Hansungbu's jurisdiction--

A citizen's life is on the line!

This is no time to be arguing about jurisdiction!

Not long ago, the King gave a robber some silver and released him

because he was a father.

He said that doing good deeds was more important than the law!

So, with that in mind, couldn't you save his father?

Father.

Please save him, Sir!

Sir!

That's right.

Good deeds are more important than the law.

Thank you! Thank you!

[Episode 4]

Raise your head.

Raise... raise your head!

You're not just any old vermin

but vermin that lives off the Yangsucheong water business.

And yet, you stole water from Yangsucheong?

My wife and child were dying before my very eyes

so I lost my mind for just a moment, Sir!

Please! Please, forgive me just this once, Sir!

Oh, really?

Well, the proper punishment for your crime would be to tear you to shreds.

But I'll consider all the work you've done for Yangsucheong

and cut off one of your hands so you can't steal anything else.

Sir! Please, forgive me just this once!

Please!

If you do this, my entire family will starve to death!

Sir!

You should've thought about that before you stole the water.

Right?

Sir!

Do it.

Sir! Sir, please!

Stop right there!

Father! Father!

Father! Are you okay?

Oh my.

What is a member of Hansungbu doing here?

I'll be taking this water bearer to Hansungbu.

Have you forgotten that Yangsucheong has the right to self-govern?

The water that was stolen may have been from Yangsucheong

but the area from which the water was stolen falls under our jurisdiction.

So we will be the ones to judge him for his crime.

Do you think you'll be okay after crossing the line like this?

Take the prisoner!

- Yes, Sir! - Yes, Sir!

In there.

Huh?

Chung Woon!

But, how did you recognize me?

I chose the most foolish-looking and immature-looking person of the lot

and it turned out to be you, Crown Prince.

I missed your sharp tongue quite a bit.

You must hurry and return.

Wait. I can't go yet.

Do you know how much danger you're in right now?

But there's a citizen who is in even greater danger than I am right now!

I barely managed to secure a safe way for you to return.

We have no time. Hurry up and follow me.

Chung Woon.

Do you remember what you said to me when I was young

and I told you that I didn't want to learn martial arts?

You asked me, "Are you giving up on protecting your people?"

And you told me that, if I gave up on that, a beast would devour my people

to scare me!

Are you telling me right now to give up on protecting my people?

It falls under the Hansungbu's jurisdiction

to bring the prisoner forth and choose his punishment.

Yes, sure, sure.

That's all very well and good.

But you disobeyed a royal decree today.

And you will have to take responsibility for that fact.

What did you say?

When His Majesty created Yangsucheong for the sake of the people

he gave us jurisdiction over the water supply, and the power of self-governing.

But you, Lord Seo, released a prisoner who was in the middle of a trial.

So what else could this be but disobeying a royal decree?

Isn't that right?

It was just one container of water.

And he did it to save his wife and child, who were dying!

So surely, you could overlook this one instance!

- Forgive him! - Forgive him!

His Honor, the Judge, is here!

Is this the water bearer who stole water from Yangsucheong?

Hand him over to Yangsucheong.

But, Sir! He's not a mere thief!

Silence! Don't you know that Yangsucheong has judicial rights?

If he stole water from Yangsucheong, this is their business!

Due to my shortcomings, I made you come all the way here, Judge.

No, it's fine. Hurry and take him away.

Hey, guys.

- Yes, Sir! - Yes, Sir!

- Wait, please-- - Let him go!

This is the Crown Prince! Show him your respect!

The jade crest of the Crown Prince.

It's the Crown Prince!

To whom does that jade crest belong?

Y-You, Your Highness.

And yet, it is in your hands. So it is yours, is it not?

That isn't true, Your Highness.

How could I possibly possess your jade crest?

They say that the Crown Prince is chosen by the heavens

and the proof of that is his possession of the jade crest.

So wouldn't this mean that you're now the Crown Prince?

Water is also something that is bestowed by the heavens.

It is something that was given to the citizens by the heavens

so you cannot say that all of it belongs to the Yangsucheong!

Am I mistaken?

Well, um, that is...

A judge is supposed to protect the citizens!

Are the citizens who've stepped into Yangsucheong no longer Joseon's citizens?

But, Your Highness!

According to the laws that the King created--

Law?

You should think of how you can use the law to protect the citizens

instead of thinking about how you can punish them!

Release that water bearer this instant!

What are you doing? Release him immediately!

Praise the heavens!

May you enjoy eternal blessings, Your Highness! subtitles ripped and synced by riri13

May you enjoy eternal blessings, Your Highness!

May you enjoy eternal blessings, Your Highness!

He really is my Crown Prince.

Young Miss.

Wait.

Let's strike when His Highness leaves Hansungbu.

Aw, man!

Ugh!

Your Highness!

Ugh, damn it!

You were in such a rush to get back before

so what do you mean, we can't leave now?

You let the entire country know that you're here.

You are in danger, so we have to stay here until your escorts get here.

There are people I must see before I head back

and there is also something that I must hear, as well!

I have received a royal decree commanding me to bring you back safely.

How did you come to have these suspicions?

Well, um, that is...

According to what an informant told me

the more construction they did on Yangsucheong

the drier the public water supply for the citizens became.

That's why I started investigating.

The rivers are twice as high as they were last year.

So what is the reason for the wells being drier this year?

Yes, yes, it's exactly that!

I had my doubts, so I undid some of the groundwork that Yangsucheong did

and the dry public water supply started overflowing!

So Yangsucheong blocked off the public wells on purpose

to make the public wells dry up.

And they redirected that water supply to Yangsucheong?

Is that what you're telling me?

Why didn't you report on this important matter sooner?

Why are you only telling me this in secret?

Your Highness.

I mean, this is Yangsucheong we're dealing with!

Who would have the nerve to investigate and expose Yangsucheong?

Those with power aren't interested in helping

and those who are interested in helping don't have power.

Is this why you wanted to tell the Crown Prince about this?

I saw him stepping up while court was in session

and I thought that maybe the Crown Prince would help.

Excuse me.

Stop right there!

Let's do a proper investigation.

And if there is something amiss, we will right that wrong.

Are you saying that you will investigate this yourself, Your Highness?

No.

I will entrust the investigation to Seo Yoon.

Bring Seo Yoon here.

Wait, why are you--

why did you leave the Crown Prince by himself?

He told me that he was thirsty, so...

"Lord Han Gyu Ho of Hansungbu and Soldier Park Moo Ha"

"are to thoroughly investigate the construction of Yangsucheong."

I, Han Gyu Ho, gladly accept your command, Your Highness!

Um, I accept your..

Do I really have to accept his command?

That man there is the Crown Prince.

That man is not the Crown Prince.

Hurry and find him!

Where did you go off to?

The Crown Prince saved Lee Seon's dad's life!

Did you see?

Oh. Well, that's a relief.

"You should think about protecting the citizens"

"instead of thinking about how to punish them!"

"Release that water bearer at once!"

He was so cool!

He... was cool?

- Really? - Yes!

- Really? - Yes, really!

Really?

Hwa Goon led you astray and went to find the Prince?

To think that Hwa Goon knows the Prince's face...

The Prince sure has an interesting fate, to say the least.

Go and find Hwa Goon.

Yes, Sir.

Sir.

The chief of Hansung Yangsucheong wishes to see you.

It couldn't be helped, Sir.

The Crown Prince appeared from out of nowhere.

I hate hearing "it couldn't be helped" more than anything else.

What should I do...

to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again?

Oh, goodbye! Goodbye!

Get on my back.

Oh, please. I'm not dead yet, you know.

It's okay. Get on my back.

Do you know how to write the name that Miss Ga Eun gave you?

I can write and read anything, so just say the word.

I'll write anything you need me to.

Really?

Well, Sir told me to have you continue studying since you're so smart.

Didn't you yell at me before for learning how to read?

Why did you fill up Professor's water container for him, anyway?

Because I don't have money, of course. Do you even need to ask?

Do you want to continue studying?

But in exchange, you can't go around getting beaten up every day, okay?

If they hit you and ridicule you for studying

even though you're the son of a butcher

tell them that your father is no longer a butcher

but a water bearer!

Okay?

I'll start work early in the morning and study in the evening.

Sure, go ahead.

- Aren't I heavy? - No.

- Really? - Yeah.

F... Father.

Father. Father!

You know the way to Professor Woo Bo's house now

so why are you asking me to come with you again?

How long do I have to be your guide?

Hm... forever, maybe?

Ga Eun.

I have something that I must tell you.

So, um...

So, um, I'm actually the...

Professor!

It would've been better to amputate all his limbs instead!

What is this?

Can't you tell?

They're making an example of him to show what happens

when you oppose Yangsucheong. Which is why they killed him so conspicuously!

Move his body.

Sir, Lee Seon left not too long ago with rage in his eyes

saying that he'd get revenge for his father!

What should we do?

Shouldn't we go?

Where did he say he was going?

Let go!

You can't get revenge.

Do you have a death wish? Why are you holding me back?

I cannot allow my friend to become a murderer!

Shut up and get out of my way!

Justice and revenge cannot coexist!

That is why they have laws!

Justice? Laws?

There isn't even a single law to protect us low-class people!

Let go!

Let him go.

I order you to let him go!

I'm sorry. This is all my fault.

I shouldn't have gotten involved with the trial.

I really am sorry.

You must leave now.

Just wait a little bit until I can avenge your father.

And who the hell are you that you can do that?

Why the hell would I wait? Who the hell do you think you are?

I am--

You must not reveal your identity!

This country's Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince? You're the Crown Prince?

It's because of you, Your Highness.

It's because of you that my father died.

It's because of you, Your Highness!

I'm sorry.

Father!

Where have you been all this time?

How do you know what the Crown Prince looks like?

So you really do know what he looks like.

Sire.

We've located Chung Woon, but he is with two men.

Is it the Crown Prince?

So it is.

Capture the Prince and bring him here immediately.

Yes, Sir.

Are you... going to kill the Crown Prince?

I will tell the King that Lord Han and Soldier Park

are investigating Yangsucheong.

And I will ask him to add on the crime of the murder of your father as well

so don't worry.

Yes, Your Highness.

Y-Your Highness. H-here.

Hold on to that as proof of our promise.

You can give that back to me when I right your father's wrongful death.

Your Highness.

When is the Royal General coming?

before you acted?

Who will protect the powerless citizens if I just flee without doing anything?
