until May of this year.

- That's when the virus hit.

He and Kyle both got screwed
by the pandemic.

he knows the roads.

Shortcuts, hiding places.
He have a criminal record?

- Not even a parking ticket.

The only thing is,

is point-of-sale
background check

at a local gun shop.

He bought an AR-15,

a Glock 9-millimeter handgun,
and a big haul of ammo.

- Well, something
triggered him.

That's when the killing spree
started coming into focus.

- I found the name of the
chemical plant where he worked,

and an address for an apartment
in Miners' Mills.

- All right.

Why don't you two see what his
former employer can tell us?

his apartment.

- [sighs] I changed the locks
a few months ago.

He was five months behind
on the rent.

- You know that's illegal,

Folger lost his job
because of the pandemic.

to live with him.

Looks like Folger
was living off

ramen noodles and Hot Pockets.

utility bills piling up.

Folger was an everyman who was
getting pushed over the edge.

- Clinton's calling.

about Folger.

His former boss said he worked
there for about ten years

before he had to let him go
'cause the plant shut down.

- The virus?

Also, his marriage ended
a year ago.

Apparently Folger was really
pissed off about that.

- Guess his ex-wife decided
she didn't wanna be with

a blue-collar guy
working the night shift,

so she left him
for a finance guy

who has a country club
membership

and a house down in Miami.

- First he loses his wife,
then his job.

He's holed up in this shoebox
during the pandemic

with barely enough food to eat,
and the last insult hits.

He's homeless,
and living out of his van.

- That's when he goes
to the gun shop.

- Exactly.

All that misery broke him,
and he wants somebody to pay.

- Well, Folger and Kyle
each had their lives

destroyed by the pandemic
in totally different ways.

Now they're fueling
each other's disillusionment,

their rage.

- They latched onto each other

when there was
nothing else left.

- The perfect storm.

- Yeah.

- Kid definitely
has some artistic talent.

- An alien abduction scenario.

It takes a lot of time
and commitment

to make something like this.

- Oh, my God,

in a mass-casualty shooting
there.

[cell phones chiming]

The authorities have issued
an active shooter alert

for the surrounding area,
and are warning

both motorists and pedestrians

to avoid the area
near the marina.

-A green van pulled up
near the dock.

Then there's gunfire
everywhere.

- People were running,
screaming.

I took cover,
got a couple rounds off.

Can't say I hit anything with
this peashooter they give me.

- Yeah, maybe

on the way to the hospital.

a shelter-at-home order.

We got people running
zigzags from their cars

to the grocery store.

He was busted for shoplifting
art supplies.

- Following his passion.

- His mother encouraged it.He lost her.

His father ridiculed him.He reverted to stealing.

An alien abduction--

the creature at the end
of the story is a female.

Maternal representation.

It's as if the boy who's
transported to the spacecraft

is being welcomed back
into the womb.

This is a child
longing for his mother,

like Tali
after Angelyne passed.

dead mother as Lisa Calhoun,

not Lisa Dennison.

- Calhoun was her maiden name.

- The "L.C." in the heart
on the sidewalk is his mom?

- Kyle hated his father so much

he refused to pinthe Dennison surname on her

when he gave his familyinformation to the police.

We have a kidwith a mommy problem.
