On some level,
Copper is about cops and robbers.

During the Civil War, there was an enormous
uptick in violence in the cities...

...because there were more guns,
there were more returning soldiers...

...people had access to firearms
in ways they hadn't had before.

Back then, as a policeman,
when you shoot a weapon...

...you want to make sure every shot counts,
because you only have six.

When it came to reloading,
it would take them 10 to 15 minutes.

"Hang on a second, I'm not loaded yet.

It's not fair to shoot at me
while I'm trying to load."

They would have to knock this...

This weapon apart.

Take the barrel off.

And then take the cylinder off like so.

And then put a new cylinder
that's per-loaded out of a pouch...

...put it back on, put the barrel on...

...and you put it all back together.

At that day,
that's what was considered a speed load.

Any time in any period of war,
what happens is...

...mankind conceives
better ways to kill each other.

This weapon is the Le Mat revolver.

It has more rounds
and it has a shotgun built into it.

This was a French design.
Very, very few were made.

Very few were brought into the country,
but from a script point of view...

...they wanted to use this particular gun
in a very particular scene.

I ain't ever seen one of these.

That's because it's a Confederate gun.

Yeah, I've never seen a gun like it in my life.

I've worked on films where we've used guns
and gone shooting, but this thing was insane.

I mean, the fact that it has a shotgun
built into it. It's about this big:

But, yeah, it was pretty incredible
just to shoot it.
