The Legend of Xiao Chuo

Episode 12

You said before,

you won't get married

before we complete our goal.

Do you know

how difficult it is to finish our task?

If you...

Yanyan would be the one to suffer.

I know.

That's what I thought.

But after what happened in Youzhou,

I found myself

to be too extreme.

Now the world is bad.

People are like mayflies.

We might die any minute.

But we can't just

give up on ourselves.

Give up on everything.

Father.

Even if we don't have the great goal,

I get married and have kids

just like others,

bad things might still happen.

With the great goal,

will there only be failure

but not success to us?

Don't you think your actions

are too selfish

to Yanyan?

Father.

Yanyan knows me like I know her.

Even she knew

I would face danger,

I don't think

she would give up on our relationship.

I thought

you could wait at least after we succeed.

But with Prime Minister Siwen,

you think he would say yes?

I have been hesitant

ever since I came back from Youzhou

for what you just mentioned.

But I think

if things

continue to be like this,

it's not good for anyone.

Mother doesn't know about the truth,

she always tries to hook me up.

Si misunderstood me for it.

What's more,

now everything is up in the air,

any little thing

might hurt Yanyan.

Get up.

You've been determined ever since you were a kid.

Since it is so,

I'll go to Prime Minister Siwen

and try.

Thank you, father.

Derang.

I always consider

Si to be the most suitable for you.

Why did you choose Yanyan?

Si is the most suitable for me.

And

I thought

a married couple

should respect each other,

live a calm and distant life.

But things in this world

won't just go

as we planned.

As for Yanyan,

father,

just consider her to be my loss of control.

Now, if you excuse me.

Shang Jing

Emergency!

Liu Han requests reinforcements!

Your Majesty.

Zhao Kuangyin, the South King, has arrived with his army.

Jinyang is in danger.

Once we lose,

we won't be able to guard Liao anymore.

Our king begs Your Majesty

to send in reinforcements

before it is too late.

How could the South

recover so fast?

The South soldiers are fierce now.

The last fight at Youzhou,

we didn't win much either.

Is it really necessary to send troops

to help Liu Han defend his city?

What should we do?

You are too loud. Too loud!

Who said all that just now?

Come out.

Develop the ambition of others

and destroy our own prestige,

you shall do no such deeds.

Come

take them down.

Flog them for 40 times.

Your Majesty, forgive us, Your Majesty!

Your Majesty.

-Hold on. -Your Majesty.

Make it 80.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, forgive me, Your Majesty!

Please forgive me!

Your Majesty, spare me my life!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty,

Liu Han might be of no use,

but he served our country for many years.

If we save him,

maybe we can tie down the South with him.

OK, OK.

Do what you want.

More wine.

Go, go, you go!

Bring me the wine!

Go, go!

This is not the wine I asked for.

Are you playing with me?

Your Majesty, I dare not.

Bring me the wine.

Bring me wine!

Anyone?

Come out!

Or I'll kill

your whole family.

Now this

is the wine I want.

He killed again when he's drunk?

It is said,

even Lord Nüli nearly got killed

when they tried to check things out.

OK. You may leave.

This palace is full of

killing,

conspiracy,

and blood.

Yanyan.

You are the one

I've been looking for.

You're brilliant.

When it comes to politics,

you are sharp and visionary.

You are the best fit

to be with me

and guard this country.

Wait for me.

When I'm done with everything,

I will ask Prime Minister Siwen

to let you marry me.

Look,

another mask vendor.

Lady, buy a mask.

This is a new style from the South.

Take a look.

How is it?

Aren't you afraid, brother Derang?

Why would I be afraid?

Thank you.

Come again next time!

Let's go riding.

Here you go.

Yanyan.

My father

agreed to propose our marriage to Prime Minister Siwen.

Really?

Try it on.

Father, I want to marry Xiao Yanyan.

I won't get up,

until you say yes.

You...!

I...!

So this is where you're going?

You've been chasing her

ever since you were a kid.

She kicked your ass every time.

You're almost a joke in Shangjing.

I...

Now you want to marry her?

If you really marry her,

this whole house will be a circus.

Father.

I'll marry

a girl from Empress's family anyway.

Now I fall

for the noblest girl

of them all.

Save us the trouble to choose.

Father.

Just go

to Prime Minister Siwen.

If I marry her,

we'll be closer

to King Taiping as well.

I don't want

to get close to Yansage!

I don't care.

I will marry only Xiao Yanyan.

If you don't go propose,

I'll stay on my knees forever.

You...!

Hold me tight.

Tighter.

Let me feel alive.

It's OK, you have me.

Whenever I close my eyes,

I can see

that bloody knife of His Majesty

in front of me.

Don't worry, as long as I'm here,

no one can get to you.

When I get control of the army,

I'll go to war.

I will kill all our enemies.

When I return with the grand victory,

no one

would dare to touch my woman.

Master, you are going to the battlefield?

I heard the report today.

Enemy arrived at our border.

His Majesty will send troops out sooner or later.

This is a chance

granted from God Tengri to me.

When I have control over the military,

I will also have control of the throne.

Accidents happen on the battlefield.

I'm afraid...

Don 't be.

I am the son of the late Emperor.

I have to establish my career.

I can't fail

my ancestors' name.

Brother Siwen.

Brother Kuangsi.

Prime Minister.

What brought you here?

I'm here today

for a great thing.

Which is?

I'm here

to make a proposal for my son

to marry Prime Minister Siwen's daughter.

Derang.

Prime Minister.

I love her so.

I hope you can agree on this marriage.

Master,

Lord Hugu is here to see you.

Prime Minister Siwen.

I have good news for you.

What is it?

My son

is in love with your daughter Yanyan.

He begged me to propose this marriage.

Marriages between Yelü

and Xiao have been going on for generations.

If they get married,

I'm sure our ancestors would love to see that.

What do you think?

I have to think about it.

What?

King Yan also came for the same thing today.

But you know

I have only one daughter.

Both of you came at the same time.

You put me in an awkward situation.

I mean...

He came to propose as well?

Lord Hugu.

Han Kuangsi.

How dare you!

How dare you to steal my daughter-in-law!

You must be joking, Lord Hugu.

Anyone can propose to a fine lady.

This is

more than usual.

What do you say, Siwen?

This is Yanyan's life.

I want to hear from her.

Husi, go get Yanyan.

Father.

Yanyan.

Do you know

why I asked you to come here?

Uncle Husi told me about it.

So who would you choose?

Of course I will go with

Brother Derang.

Yanyan, you...!

Lord Hugu.

Xiao Siwen, you went too far.

You can say no to me, it's okay.

But you decided to marry your daughter

to a slave

right in front of me.

You're insulting me.

Lord Hugu.

I am the Prime Minister of Liao.

I consider my daughter

to be the most precious.

Her choice is my choice.

No man

can tell me what to do in my house.

Goodbye!

Molugu, let's go.

Father!

Let's go!

Mansion of Wuzhi

King Wuzhi. The Emperor

drinks himself to death all day.

We've been defeated at war.

People fear for their lives in court.

King Wuzhi,

you're the core of the royal clan.

This is time

where you come out

and say something.

King Wuzhi?

King Wuzhi!

What?

I'm really getting old.

I fell asleep accidentally.

What did you say?

King Zhimo,

what did you say?

Master, what did King Wuzhi say?

When the wise King Wuzhi gets old,

he's nothing but an old fool.

Master, King Zhimo is gone.

He's still too green.

He has a lot to go through

in the future.

The palace

King Zhimo has been seen contacting the royal members.

Zhimo.

Master,

Zhimo tries

to take this chance and seize military power.

That's why

he tries so hard to win over the royals.

He won't

achieve anything other than failure.

He's not qualified

to win over

those old foxes in the royals.

So we should just let him be?

He's not the only one

trying to make moves

on the military right now.

The blood of the soldiers had not yet dried

These bastards are already coveting for glory.

We have enemies at our border.

I can't

have these bastards play tricks under the table.

So what should we do?

What do we have on Zhimo lately?

We've been attacked by the South

at Yangqu and Dingzhou.

His Majesty was furious.

He executed

a lot of the generals.

He even said he would kill their entire families.

We've been defeated at the battlefield.

But when we get the news,

all His Majesty knows is to kill?

Does he have no solution at all?

How can he not cherish

our country like this?

How can he face our ancestors?

Your Excellency.

Calm down first.

Don't be angry.

Sit down.

Are you alright?

I know,

I can't be too emotional.

But I just hate it.

I hate to see

what happened in front of me.

But I know

I can't be impulsive.

Stay put for the bigger good.

Your Excellency, you are right.

I'm afraid.

I'm afraid that my uncle, the Sleeping Emperor

would give this country

to others

in his sleep.

There is no place for my ambition.

I can't face our ancestors.

Don't worry.

We certainly won't

let things get to that point.

Prime Minister, you said last time,

Liu Han had been the barrier for our country.

We can't just give up on him.

But now His Majesty doesn't care.

He let the South besiege Taiyuan City.

Liu Han is about to lose.

I would love

to go reinforce Taiyuan City.

Prime Minister, please

recommend me to His Majesty.

About Liu Han,

King Taiping

is the one who's in charge of this.

It's not on my table.

King Zhimo,

why don't you go to King Taiping?

With the defeat,

I have

a lot to deal with in my hands.

I really don't have the time to chat.

Prime Minister, you...

Goodbye.

Brother, come on.

Come on.

We have to get rid of Zhimo.

You go get him.

Just say...

say he's a rebel.

Zhimo is the son of the late Emperor.

He's of sensitive identity.

Will we set off the public

if we claim him to be

a rebel?

We should better change the charge.

King Zhimo.

Brother, why are you here?

Zhimo.

You are too ahead of yourself.

Even I

heard about

that you contacted the royals in private.

If His Majesty knows...?

What if he knows?

It's not like there's a law

against meeting the royals.

Situations are very delicate

in the court right now.

If someone uses it to go against you in the court,

you won't even have the chance to explain.

Those people in the court

are nothing

but cowards.

As long as I can establish my tributes at war,

no one dares to criticize me.

King Taiping

is in charge of the overall situation.

Why are you so eager to get to the army?

You want to embarrass him?

Him?

He only cleans the ass for His Majesty.

He thought hiding those memorials

against the generals

would get them

to thank him

for it.

But those generals didn't have to

take those humiliations in the first place.

Zhimo.

This is not

as simple as you thought.

Brother, I've thought it over.

We are the descendants of Abaoji.

We can't hide forever.

The great Liao

is not owned only by His Majesty.

Didn't you see what he did to our country?

Didn't it hurt you to see so?

Zhimo.

Anyway, promise me,

never act rashly.

all right?

Zhimo!

Don't worry,

I know what I'm doing.

Master.

King Zhimo might be young.

But he grew up in the royal family.

He knows what he's doing.

You don't have to worry too much.

I have

a bad feeling about this.

I hope I'm wrong.

Master,

I'm afraid.

Don't be, you have me.

I have been with His Majesty for many years.

You don't know how horrible he is.

If he finds out about us...

Then I'll ask him for you.

It's just that

I'm preparing to lead the army.

It's not safe to have you with me in the army.

Wait for me to come back.

I will then ask uncle for you.

Thank you, my master.

You...you can't come in!

What are you doing?

Who are you?

I'm King Zhimo.

Who dares to be rude to me?

We are not

trying to be rude to Your Excellency.

It's just what you did...

What did I do?

Fornication with His Majesty's maid,

this is not a trivial matter.

Why don't you come with us

and go to His Majesty?

Your Excellency, King Mingyi!

King Mingyi.

What happened?

Our master has been taken

by His Majesty.

What happened?

He was brought away together

with palace maid Anzhi.

No.

Zhimo.

You certainly know how to enjoy yourself.

Take that bitch down.

Master!

Master, save me!

-Stop! -Master!

-Don't! -Master!

-Uncle, don't! -Master, save me!

Uncle!

-Uncle! -Master!

-Master!

No, uncle!

I beg of you!

Master!

Uncle,

I beg of you!

before brother Derang comes,

I'll make the tea first,

so he can enjoy my craft later.

Uncle, please spare Zhimo for his life.

What has he done?

It's okay if he's into women.

Just say so.

He can have all the women in the world.

I can even get him

princess from the South.

He just had to sleep

with a palace maid.

Where that put His Majesty?

Uncle, Zhimo did something wrong.

But he didn't mean it.

He would never

deliberately offend His Majesty.

Uncle.

I know I won't live long.

I just want Zhimo

to pass down the blood

of our family.

Uncle.

For the sake of my father,

can you please save Zhimo?

Uncle!

Yansage.

Just go into the palace and help him.

OK.

Alright.

Now that my princess said so.

Even if this might offend His Majesty,

I have to go plead for him.

Mingyi.

Take good care of Zhimo in the future.

Don't let him mess around anymore.

I will.

Thank you, uncle.

Uncle,

Anzhi is just a maid.

We really love each other.

You have so many women in your palace.

What if you give me one?

Why should I give

what's mine to you?

I have kept you by my side

since you were 3.

I hope you can have a great future.

I didn't know

I have raised a burglar.

All you have belonged to my father!

If it hadn't been for my father's early death,

we brothers were too young,

you think you could really make it to the throne?

Great.

Finally, you're up

with your ambition.

Your position

will be passed down on me sooner or later.

Or do you want to pass it

to Dilie's son?

The grandson of a slave?

At least

Dilie is a pure Khitan.

And you are just a bastard.

Yelü Jing!

What did you say?

What did you say?

Master!

Yelü Jing, say it again!

Yelü Jing!

I will kill you!

Please hurry up, uncle.

Mingyi.

Brother sees you as his own kids.

He might teach him a lesson or two at most.

It's going to be fine.

Yelü Jing, I will kill you!

Take this bastard down,

let the horse tear him apart.

Yelü Jing, I'll kill you!

Stop it! Stop!

Let go of him!

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, please spare him.

Mingyi.

Are you against me, as well?

I dare not.

Zhimo is just too young.

But he's definitely loyal

to Your Majesty.

Please forgive him.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Uncle!

Brother.

Shut up.

If I want him dead,

then he'll be.

Drag him down.

Yelü Jing,

who do you think you are?

A scumbag

who took my father's place.

Master.

All you know is drinking and acting crazy.

You don't deserve to be the Emperor of Liao.

Master!

How dare you!

I will kill you!

Your Majesty. No!

Brother!

Out of my way!

Your Majesty, Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, don't!

-Your Majesty! -Brother!

You can't kill him!

Killing him will cause

turmoil in the royals.

Brother!

Your Majesty.

I'm Zhimo's brother.

I'm willing to take the fall for him.

You didn't do anything wrong.

Why should I punish you?

Do you think I'm a fool?

No, no. I dare not.

Your Majesty brought us up.

We owe it all

to Your Majesty.

You don't have to kill him, brother.

We can find another way to punish him.

OK then, Mingyi.

For your sake,

I'll let him live.

Thank you, Your Majesty. Thank you!

Thank you, Your Majesty. Thank you!

He can live, but he still has to pay the price.

Come

get this bastard out of here.

Castrate him.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, please!

Your Majesty!

Now bow for His Majesty's kindness.

Do you really want Zhimo to die?

Your Majesty!

Do I need to tell you

what you should do?

Kneel down!

Yelü Jing, you madman.

Just kill me.

Just kill me!

Kill me!

You lunatic!

Mingyi.

you have any objection

to my ruling?

Thank His Majesty for his kindness.

Mingyi!

Looks like the castration is not enough.

Flog him 100 times.

To set an example.

Your Majesty.

Don't be silly.

I,

thank you for your kindness.

Brother.

With Zhimo's condition,

I don't think he can stand the flogging.

Why don't we let the doctor

stop him from bleeding first?

And then we deal with him.

Get him out of here.

I don't want him to stain my carpet.

The tea is all done.

Why hasn't brother Derang come yet?

Did he

get caught up

with work again?

Zhimo...

Your Excellency.

How is Zhimo?

He's alive.

He's been sent back to his palace.

I want to see him.

Help me up.

I'm going to see him.

Master.

Hu Gudian Daughter of late Emperor Shizong

Brother, take this medicine.

I'm scared. Please don't do this to me.

Brother, take this please.

Second brother.

Please come talk to third brother.

After he woke up,

he refused to talk or take medicine.

Master.

Master!

Zhimo.

Take your medicine.

If you don't,

the wounds won't heal.

I'm a eunuch and half-blind now.

In ten days,

I'll have to take the flogging.

Even I take this,

I'll just live for a few more days.

If I were to die

after being humiliated again,

then I would rather be relieved right now.

I will go to King Taiping!

I will never let you die on me!

I will never let you die!

I'm not going to let you die!

What if I could survive?

I will be nothing but a walking-dead.

Just let me die right now.

You have to know,

in this whole wide world,

we are the only three left

with the same blood.

We support each other

in this dark palace.

You want to

just leave us here

and go?

Zhimo, I've never been in good health.

Hugudian's just a girl.

Didn't you promise us

that you would take care of us?

You remember that?

Give me the medicine.

In this world,

as long as you're still alive, there is hope.

We're going to go through this.

Look at me, I've been struggling

all these years, and I'm still here.

Just one sip.

Brother, what should we do?

Brother.

Stay with your third brother.

Don't ever leave him.

Third brother!

Brother!

All three branches of Emperor Taizu,

Zhimo has been castrated.

I'm afraid

you will be the next.

Your Excellency, what are you going to do?

Brother Han,

you go home with Mr. Han first.

Leave me alone for now.

Your Excellency.

We'll leave now.

how did you get back so late?

What's the matter? Father wants me?

No.

Master is still in the palace.

Still?

What's the matter?

Something happened.

What happened?

one of King Zhimo's eyes.

His Majesty even had King Zhimo castrated.
