- [Xander] I have a problem,

it's been 14 years now
but I still hear them,

sometimes I see them,
sometimes I can feel them,

that's why I surround myself with people

and try to stay in welded places.

The brighter the light
I immerse myself in,

the darker the shadow seemed to be.

When I gaze my eyes into
the dark thinking of this,

I'm certain something is
staring back at me, closing in,

of every year that's passed
the symptoms have worsened,

my ever escalating fear of what's to come.

I've tried every drug, every professional,

read every book I can find
to see what any of this means

but with no success,

considering recent events

and reviewing my current
situation, I have but one option,

I need to go back, back
to where it all began.

(ominous music)

(footsteps approaching)

Graves Hill, population 4,000,
no road will take you there,

the town cut off from everything,

separated by seven miles
of forest at the South

and 15 feet of rapid water to the North,

it is for all intents and
purposes, a forgotten town,

a town known for devil
worshipers and the insane,

a place where the people
fester in fear and doubt,

they will ever be rid of the horrors,

that reside in Graves Hill,

a place that I once called home.

I can hardly remember it now
but as I follow my footsteps,

back into the depths
of my formidable past,

the darkest recesses of my
distant memory begin to expand,

the voices are becoming clearer.

(river gushing)

(ominous music)

- That's not a good idea.

(water gushing)

Yeah, that's Charlie, he's blind and deaf.

- What's with the-

- The mask?

Yeah it makes him feel more comfortable,

he's harmless really,

he comes out here a couple of times a day,

it's best you just leave him alone.

- I'm trying to get to the
town, I used to live here.

- Sure, it's this way.

You're the first person I've met,

trying to get back to Graves Hill,

you know, after moving away.

- I heard they're supposed
to be building a road?

Well, I couldn't find one
(indistinct) not enough.

- They've been trying to build
a road for the last 15 years

but it's that same old
story about the curse.

- The curse?

- Yeah, you know the towns cursed,

over 700 murders in the last decade

and those are just the
ones that we know of,

anytime, anyone tries to
make a change to the town,

be it a new road, demolish
a building, build a new one,

every council member just
ends up the same way, dead.

- How's the town managed
to survive this long?

- We became self-sufficient,
mainly with our own farms,

you won't even get a
phone signal down there

and our power stations are
iffy at the best of times.

- Do you believe this curse is real?

- Course not, look it
all goes back to 1870,

some stuff happened and hang
on, why are you coming back?

(voices whispering)

- Can you just show me the way please?

- You know, I get the feeling,

you don't really wanna talk
that much, which is fine,

you know, straight ahead, keep going.

This is as far as they ever got,

building the road.

So where was it you wanted to go?

- Actually, I think I can
find my own way from here.

- You're welcome,

it's Tyler by the way.

(ominous music)

(footsteps approaching)

(door creaking)

- I'm sorry the door was open.

- You're in the house of God.

You're welcome any time.

We don't get many visitors here.

- I can understand that.

- What brings you here?

- Questions mostly.

- People used to come
here looking for answers.

- And did they find any?

- Possibly, it depends how hard you listen

and on whose voice you choose to follow,

God's or the devil.

- And how do I know which is which?

- Depends on you.

- It seems like a lot to depend on.

- It's called Faith.

- Look, I don't really
believe in all of this,

so I think I'm just gonna go.

- Get out of here, get back
to where you come from,

I do not wanna ever here again.

- Oh my God Xander, haven't you grown,

well, I haven't seen
you since you were tiny,

now do you remember me Arthur?

A friend and legal representative
of the Addington family?

- Not really.

- Oh, but your father and
I have to go way back,

naturally I was deeply taken aback,

when I heard the tragic news.

- Yeah, well I haven't seen
him in a very long time.

- Well I'll try not to

your father has left you,

the Addington house,

I know house prices are
extremely low in town

but I think if we find the
right property developer-

- I don't want to sell it.

- I'm sorry.

I want to live in it.

to a place like this after all this time,

at least until I decide what to do.

Now as I'm sure you're aware
your father was the sole owner

of the Graves Hill Asylum,

it's safe to say you wouldn't
be wanting to live there too.

Good because they are several
developers interested,

one of whom has made a
reasonable offer, a sum of money

with the aim of taking the land

and turning into a retail complex.

- Is that possible?

- Xander, you've been
away for quite a while

and times have changed,

we've already modernized
a large part of the town,

we've just finished construction
on an apartment building,

a ledger complex, even
some new car showrooms

and a filling station,

even the power has managed
to stay on for the last year.

- I didn't realize.

- Xander, if you're planning on staying

for any length of time,

please promise me, you
won't get too involved,

your family was once very
important in this town

and I would say that you still are,

you have the power to
make real change here,

I would say that it's
best to leave the past,

where it belongs, behind us, yes?

(floorboard creaking)

(wind howling)

(ominous music)

(voices chanting)

- [Alex] Why are you outside?

You know this is private property,

I could call the police you know.

- There's no need for any
of that, I was just curious,

I see a random guy
walking through the woods,

coming back to Graves Hill after leaving,

that's pretty much
unheard of in this town.

When people leave,

they never come back.

- So what if I am?

- You're dead, that's why I'm fascinated,

you died 14 years ago,

thought I recognized you,

Alexander Addington,
that's your name isn't it?

- How's this even possible?

- So either the newspapers got
that story very, very wrong

or you're not really here right now.

- My memory is a bit
hazy from it back then,

I don't really remember that much,

I need to know everything
you know about this place.

- Why would I know
anything about your house?

- Not just this house, Graves Hill,

why the Addington family is
so important to this town?

Why are there so many murders

and what happened to the Asylum?

- Graves Hill lunatic
asylum was built in 1870

and the town was built around it,

as a way to house the staff but by 1910,

the government funding was cut,

leaving the owners, the
Addington's to close the asylum

and in doing so they
released every prisoner

and every patient into the town

and now over 100 years later, pretty much,

everybody in this town is
the descendant of a lunatic,

that's why there's so many murders.

- Why are they lunatics

because your life in
Graves Hill was cursed?

- No, I don't.

People choose to believe
that because it's easier but-

- But what?

- I'm not saying this proves anything

but in all of the incidences,

as they called them in this town,

the people committing the violent crimes,

they've always said the same thing,

voices told them to do it,

claimed they understood finally.

- Why does this town think I'm dead?

- You've been snooping around haven't you?

- I hardly call it snooping
when it involves my name.

- Who have you told about this?

- No one yet, my father
just committed suicide.

- This would've been so much easier,

if you had just taken the money and left.

- And do you want me to sell
all the family property,

just so you can make some money?

I find that a bit suspicious.

- I don't care for what you're implying,

your father was a good
friend of mine at one time,

his death was a tragic waste.

trapped in his own thoughts,

didn't see the point anymore.

- It still doesn't explain,

why there's an article saying that I died,

"a friend of the family."

- I wouldn't know anything about that,

we once met a long time ago

you've come back to town,
I thought you were dead.

inherited the Graves Hill asylum

from your father and I'm
sorry to hear that by the way.

- I already told Arthur, I
don't wanna sell the lands,

I'm not gonna rush into anything.

- Arthur Woodward is that?

- I assume you want me to sell it to him?

- You have me wrong then Xander,

under no circumstances sell
that land for development,

tragic things will
happen, horrific things.

- How could you know that?

- I first moved here about 20 years ago

and like most I never
believed in the stories.

Have you been over to the
newer side of town yet?

- There's a newer side of town?

- Yes, we built and we built
and tried to modernize the town

and to bring it into the 21st century,

for a while nothing happened,
so we continued our efforts.

- And then what?

- A massacre occurred,

children were taken and
their bodies not found,

the worst part is we never
found the person responsible,

the only person to profit was Arthur

and now he's at it again,
the only way we can stop him

is if you sell the land to me.

- Thanks for the warning but
I don't wanna sell it to him

and I don't wanna sell it to

- The asylum is the
historic center of town,

it needs to stay, it must be protected.

- [Xander] A newer part of town,

could it be that Graves Hill

was really changed for the better?

Could it be that the development
is key for the future

and that the map surely
seeks to hold back,

the potential of this town

or are these just signs
of the brewing storm?

(indistinct) hasn't
dwindled since my absence

but Rob has left bricks in his eye,

circulating devastation and destruction,

whilst the town sits back and
waits for it's ending doom,

for a police officer too lazy
and scared to (indistinct)

- We're closing in a minute.

and it sounds as if he's just
trying to get you out the way.

- I suppose I'm just tired of
being on my own all the time

and lost in my own thoughts.

- I know what you mean,
it's an easy thing to do

but it can lead to some dark places.

(voices chanting)

- Speaking of dark,

- About two hours ago.

(indistinct chatter)

Look I'm sorry I know

but I've got some questions
I need some answers to.

- God is everywhere, you don't
need to speak to him here.

and he wouldn't have said
that without good reason.

- Dr. Landon, he was a
member of this church

15 and subject number 32,

with my research points to the notion,

that transplants may be the only option.

make sure that it's all there.

so another four months till we move.

years, I've experimented

with all kinds of pharmaceuticals,

who knew my high tolerance
to muscle relaxers,

would be the thing to save me now.

- Shit, what happened to you?

- I found that guy I was looking for.

- Do you need me to find a doctor?

- Didn't you say something,

- Yeah, I think that's gone

an hour but nobody answered.

- Chuck's the only one working today

and at this time there's
only one place he could be.

- [Xander] Graves Hill can appear calm

and even tranquil at times,
it is moments like this,

people walk to the most
Northern parts of the town

and the narrowest point of the river,

where the water has slowed and settled,

they look out fantasizing
about being somewhere else,

having enough money to move away,

maybe even being someone else.

With the water seemingly shallow

and the posing land being so close,

many have simply attempted to walk across

but make no mistake, this is an illusion,

the very ground beneath your
feet will swallow you whole,

sucking you down forever,
containing you in the cursed land,

that you so long to part
from, never able to rest.

(ominous music)

(voices chanting)

(chain saw buzzing)

(footsteps approaching)

- Hi, I wonder if you could help me,

Arthur was meant to meet me this morning

and I'd sell him my land
but he didn't show up.

- [Caller] Arthur is no longer with us,

there was an incident last night.

- What, what happened, sorry?

- What's wrong with you?

- Five people have been murdered.

- When?

- Last night in the park.

I need answers and
there's only one person,

(voices chanting)

himself in that church,

every day, whilst you're out
here, moping around the town,

trying to convert people?

- He does the work of the Lord now

and we're not trying to convert anyone,

just merely working on behalf of God.

- You really are so naive.

- You don't believe in a
higher power of any kind?

- I'm not gonna dispute with you,

the possibility of there being a God.

But what I will tell you

is if there is one,

he's not here,

not in this town.

- He's testing us,

we should be privileged
to live in such a town,

he selected us to have our faith tested.

your so called God's plan?

answer to my prayers,

when we found out about
his heart condition.

Your parents brought you here

because they were concerned.

they were concerned, Dr.
Landon became fascinated,

obsessed and he asked your parents

if they could open up the asylum
and he would be the warden,

he wanted a place,

to carry out those experiments

but they refused,

he adopted a boy who, who heard,

he heard those voices too.

- And what happened to him?

- As a result of his experiments,

he lost his eyes, his hearing,

he's lived in the forest ever since.

- What happened to you?

- I got stabbed.

- Call an ambulance,
he's gonna need one too.

- Wait, wait, there's more,

shortly after, after Landon continued

and after your mother passed,

your father brought you back to me,

you'd been saying that the voices,

oh, had told you to kill him,

I know you're confused,
it's understandable,

you had no intention to
carry out those demands

but your father wanted to
move you away from here

wanted to move your way from Graves Hill,

he misinformed the papers,

so that Dr. Landon would
think you were dead.

- Tyler, Tyler, did you
find that ambulance?

- Yeah, I found them.

- I thought you couldn't
get a signal in this area?

(chain saw buzzing)

- In the name of Christ,

desest, in the name of Christ.

(chain saw buzzing)

- You woke up sooner than expected.

Landon was obsessed,

like you,

like us,

he could hear the voices,

he tried to find a cure,

he thought science could save him,

so he started experimenting,

mostly on children,

he made a list of every one in town,

who claimed to hear the voices,

you were on that list,

he experimented for several years,

every year, it got worse,

your dad found out and sent
you away, it's all here.

The voices told him to
murder every single person

at the opening day of the new complex

and he did, he even got an
award from the town there

for his efforts in trying
to help the situation,

which allowed him to
continue his experiments,

he kept telling the police it was suicide,

brought on by their illness, murdered,

eyes torn out,

ears gone,

tongue gone,

when you left,

your parents stopped
funding the developments,

everything was put on hold

and the voices stopped.

- Until Arthur started construction again?

- And the voices came back.

Your dad couldn't cope,

he killed himself and
Landon killed the bar maid.

- And you killed Arthur?

- The longer you stay in Graves
Hill, the louder it gets,

they don't want me,

they didn't want Landon,

they want you and when they get here,

then you'll understand
what we have to do now.

Who's that?

Hannah.

(ominous music)

- [Voice] Xander,

I see you,

I see your fears,

I feel your pain.

(ominous music)

(voice chanting indistinctly)

(Tyler groaning in pain)
(ominous music)

- Are you sure about this?

- I've never been more sure
of anything in my life.

- Okay, then here we are.

These documents state,

that you are here by granted permission,

to reopen the Graves Hill
asylum on the grounds,

that the building undergo
necessary restoration works,

without compromising the historic value

of the building itself,

the asylum will be solely responsible

for holding the criminally insane,

priority of which will be
given to those convicted,

within Graves Hill itself.

On September 1st, the asylum
will receive its first patient

on whom treatment can begin.

- [Xander] Many people have
claimed to have heard the horror

and cold voices from the beyond,

I too have dealt with this first hand,

before my hearing was
temporarily impaired,

I had a momentary glimpse
into my greatest fear,

a transfiguration of what
used to appear to me,

as faint human like figures,

it's the most unsettling
I've ever encountered,

in that moment, I too felt
the unbearable composure.

(latch bolt disengaging)

Despite this experience my
questions still remain unanswered

is it all in my head?

A genetic condition passed
down from my forebears

or is this the work of the paranormal?

In time, my work here at the asylum,

should allow me to find
the answers I seek,

before it's too late.

(ominous music)
