Episode 10

Do you know why I want to talk to you alone?

What’s he up to?

Naughty.

You asked me to come with you alone.

There are just you and me here

What if they gossip about us?

Sir,

do you need me to give you a massage

to help you relax?

Be serious with me.

You think I don’t know you?

First, I’ll boil a cauldron of water

to remove your hairs with it

and make you glabrous like a roast sheep.

And then I’ll rub your skin

with well salt

to squeeze your blood

all out.

And then…

Do you normally wear a corset?

I believe you do.

You are always running around.

Your corset must not be tight enough.

You know clearly

what would happen after a long day

if you didn’t use lacing.

You…

You are really…

What do they call it?

A true pervert.

Like you just said,

underclothes should be comfortable.

There are no pleats at the breast part.

No cutting allowance.

The waist part is too tight.

It might tear when you do strenuous exercise.

The lacing is at about the fourth thoracic vertebra.

It’s hard to be tie it all by oneself.

Do I need to continue?

How do you know about the thoracic vertebra?

The seams are all at abdomen and rib parts.

However soft the stitch is, your skin can still feel it.

And the clipping

is too rough.

You ruined the texture of the cloth.

How do you know so much?

Now that you want it to be comfortable.

Go alter it.

Master!

Master.

Some people came to the store

to place an order of 100 sets of

underclothes Master Long altered.

Look! What did I say?

I said there would be an order of 100.

Tell the ones who have bought it

that they’ll get a discount for our new product.

And reject all new orders.

Reject them?

But they are already here.

What’s your problem? You are rejecting money!

You unscrupulous merchant!

Do you want to adopt hunger marketing

and make it rise in price?

Not even a single flawed product

can be released to market from Xinsilu.

My Lady,

Master Li will definitely like

the soup you made for him.

Xiaoxian.

Father.

Xiaoxian.

I’ve been looking for you all morning.

Where are you going?

I went to buy something.

And I’m going to the silk manor now.

I have planned your day for you.

His Highness wants to enjoy a diversion outside the city.

Today,

you’ll go to the southern suburbs with him.

But I…

That’s it.

Go back to pick up His Highness now.

Warehouse

Aoyi,

you’ve been staring at that.

What’s wrong with it?

Auntie,

that weird son of yours,

he pointed out many problems of my design.

I have solved most of them.

But at the breast part,

what kind of material is

tough enough to provide support,

but also soft enough for the skin.

I tried many kinds but no one is good enough.

Girl,

what do you want that for?

You are studying that?

Don’t you feel bashful?

Look at you.

I told you

but now you are making fun of me.

Do you have an idea about this?

In the backyard…

Yes!

Go.

I’m going now.

Can I borrow two feathers?

Please be nice.

Can I borrow two feathers from you?

Don’t run!

Just two feathers.

Don’t be so stingy!

Only two, OK?

Stop running!

Stop it!

Here.

I caught you.

I’ll take two feathers.

It won’t hurt.

What’s that?

It flew away.

So annoying!

You know what?

In front of us

is the most beautiful lake in suburb of Silver City.

I know, the Phoenix Lake.

Do you have something on mind, Miss Du?

Lately,

I’ve been busy with the affairs of the silk manor.

Please pardon me.

I heard that after the countinghouse was sealed,

you’ve made a new product

out of the materials in stock.

And it sells well in Silver City.

Please don’t mention that.

That kind of indecent clothes

can only harm Xinsilu’s reputation.

Miss Du,

do you have some prejudice over Miss Long?

I don’t understand the world she came from.

With that kind of indecent idea,

she’s ruining us.

As far as I know,

Miss Long is helping Xinsilu

get through this

without asking for anything.

Please don’t misunderstand

Miss Long’s good intention.

Everybody in this world pursues interests.

Your Highness shouldn’t just take things at face value.

Let me try it.

Where did she go?

Big Rat

Big Human Du Xiaoxian

Zhaonan

A girl falling in love.

Auntie, you are back.

Your idea is really good!

Feather stalks are resilient and smooth.

They can hold them well.

That weird son of yours

sure has some ideas.

Auntie?

Bamboo shoots?

How come it got worse?

Let’s play stone skipping.

The lake is vase and so is the sky.

Over the mountain across the lake,

there’s smoke from kitchen chimneys.

It seems to be a village.

This is such a fictitious land of peace.

That’s Hejia Village.

There are 1,000 mu of mulberry trees.

The villagers there all live on silkworm breeding.

Miss Du,

you seem to be familiar with this place.

Five years ago,

when we were preparing to build the silk manor,

we came here a lot.

We planted mulberry trees, collected cocoons and reeled for silk.

Spring silkworms, Summer silkworms,

and then late Autumn silkworms.

Three harvests a year.

Our footprints

covered this place all up.

We were young

and ambitious then.

We dreamed to do something great in the silk industry.

How was that?

Now our dream has come true.

But we are actually drifting apart.

To have a beautiful girl like you

care for him,

Master Li should feel blessed.

But eventually,

my infatuation was

all in vain.

It went so far!

How was that?

What about you?

So many fair young ladies

are admiring you

in Chang’an City.

But why do you have to

like a rough girl?

Miss Long.

It’s the first time

I met such a girl.

She’s not so old-fashioned as those girls

from noble families.

She’s innocent, free, romantic and carefree.

A thing is valued if it is rare.

It’s natural for her

to attract my attention.

That’s not all.

Miss Long is not like you and me,

who were born with

chains binding on us.

I love Qingliu

because he’s leading a life I dream of.

But I am just a pawn to my father.

So,

your feelings toward Miss Long

is your way of breaking free from those chains.

You are right, but only half right.

Being born in imperial family means there’s no freedom.

I hated the restraint from my mother

since I was little.

I would not hesitate to hurt myself

to challenge her bottom line.

But in the end,

I found that the restraint

would become

tighter and tighter

as I struggle.

But then I met Miss Long.

She showed me

what a free life should be like.

Actually, she’s not my way

to break free from those chains.

She’s my key to those chains.

Try it again.

OK, I’ll try again.

Why can’t I do it?

I’ll teach you.

Master, you asked for me?

Master Long asked me to send this to you.

You were not here,

so I put it on your table.

Why didn’t she send it herself?

I don’t know.

She called many people to the backyard.

They are wandering around now.

She said,

“it’s gonna rain bamboo shoots.”

Bamboo shoots?

Master, you are having a blush.

Give out orders.

Let them carefully measure this model,

and make samples of different sizes.

Workshops should produce at full speed.

But this…

Just go.

How many?

1,000.

Yes.

Bamboo shoots.

Miss Du,

thank you for your company.

It’s getting late. You should go back now.

Your Highness, we…

Aren’t you going back with us?

Wu Lin and I still have something to do.

But…

I’ll tell Mr. Du about this.

Thank you again.

OK.

We are finally rid of her.

What are you staring at?

There are some fruit trees in front of us.

Let’s go pick some fruits for Miss Long.

OK.

Let’s go.

Be careful, Your Highness.

Here.

Careful, Your Highness.

Careful.

Here.

That one is so high.

It must be very sweet.

Your Highness, be careful.

Your Highness, you’ve picked so many.

Let’s go wash them.

OK.

The mangosteens here are so big.

Your Highness.

What’s so special about this Long Aoyi?

Is she worth you picking mangosteens

and washing them for her?

Wu Lin,

how many years have you been by my side?

Over ten years.

Over ten years but you still don’t know me.

I never lacked beautiful girls by my side,

but they all have

their own purposes.

Some just desire wealth,

and some want to form political marriage with me.

I always try my best to avoid them.

For this trip to Silver City,

other than official business,

I’m also here to enjoy a diversion.

And then I met Miss Long.

She’s different from

all girls I’ve ever met.

I hope I can be with her forever.

Washing some mangosteens for her is nothing.

I don’t really understand this.

That’s because you have not met your true love yet.

How about I introduce you someone?

No need, Your Highness.

What do you think about Yue’er?

I saw you flirting with her

on the way here

and you both seemed happy.

I didn’t. I just think she’s cute.

Then, how about Xiaoqin?

Although she’s not really

a fair lady,

she’s kind-hearted.

She’s not my type.

You are pretty ambitious.

Don’t tell me

you have feelings for Miss Du.

I wouldn’t dare, Your Highness.

Nothing is impossible though.

Should I help you on that?

Your Highness, I…

Your Highness, I can’t swim!

Oh, it’s not deep.

You can’t swim?

You can’t swim? You can’t swim?

There’s a snake behind you.

A snake! Be careful!

No! No!

- Such a long snake! - I hate snakes! I hate snakes!

Come on, come up!

Here, try it.

Your Highness, when do you plan to go back?

It’s already night.

I say

we stay here for the night.

I mean to Chang’an.

You can’t stay here

forever, you know.

The pepper case is still a mess.

What should I say

if I went back now?

But you are the Salt and Iron officer.

As long as we report the information we’ve got

to the imperial court,

they will naturally send people to solve this.

What are you talking about?

I’m a prince of Tang

and I’m in an important position.

I’m in duty bound

to anything that’s related

to the country and the people.

Your Highness, I think

you have changed.

Maybe it’s because

I like the food here in Silver City too much.

What? Don’t you think

it’s more free here.

Sometimes

I wish I could give up everything

and be a farmer here.

I could till my land

every day.

And in stack seasons,

I could travel everywhere

to enjoy the views. Isn’t that good?

If you were a farmer,

you would die of hunger.

How about this?

I can also stay and be your neighbor.

Why neighbor?

This is not Chang’an.

We can be brothers.

OK.

Farther has many sons,

but since I can remember things,

I was always lonely.

I envied the kids

of ordinary families the most

for their brotherhood.

But since you came into the imperial palace,

we rode horses and shot together,

we studied and learned martial arts together.

You are not only a company

but more like

a brother to me.

So, in the next life,

if it’s possible,

let’s be brothers.

It’s getting cold, eat up.

OK.

How is it?

Nice! Nice!

But not salty enough.

Just eat it!

I roasted it for you! Finish it!

You just talked about brotherhood, but now…

Du’s Mansion

The missing gold thread has been found by him.

And for the government investment

and countinghouse,

he also found solutions.

I failed to fulfill my task.

That little Li Qingliu

got the only customs seal

the Fabric Bureau issued

in last five years.

With that,

he has got the access to foreign trade.

There’s such a good stuff but it’s not mine,

how can I sleep well at night?

This time,

I’ll ruin the whole silk manor

and force him to hand it out.

Remember,

don’t disappoint me again.

Yes.

Go now!

You failed to fulfill all former tasks I gave you.

There is a chance

for you to make up for that, you understand?

Yes, yes, I understand.

Remember, this is the last chance.

Yes, thank you, Sir!

I got it.

I’ll do as you said.

Sir…

Loyalty as High as the Sky

Master Qiyan, he’s here.

Master Qiyan.

Master,

the preparation is almost done.

If you can’t fulfill this task well,

I’ll find another place for this needle.

Please rest assured.

What are you waiting for?

outside the kitchen as usual.

OK, take care.

Oh, no.

Wu Lin, go get some water.

Aoyi!

Aoyi.

Aoyi.

Do you feel better?

It’s OK. I can do this myself.

Your hand is burnt.

It’s OK.

Over these years,

why do you think

the whole Longzhu Gang is following me?

This is nothing.

It’s a miracle for you

to survive so many years.

Are you better?

Yeah.

You are awake.

Come on.

Does your hand still hurt?

You know the pain now.

A girl shouldn’t try to be a hero.

Why do you have to save those bellybands?

We are counting on them to make money.

You wrapped this for me?

What do you think?

It needs to be changed later.

Thank you.

Well,

thank you for saving me last night.

You know what?

You nearly delivered a crushing blow to the silk manor.

I delivered it?

Xiaoxian.

How much would we have lost if the whole manor

had been burn down?

In case of no casualties.

According to the items in stock in the warehouse,

the finished cost

and unfinished cost of them…

Would have been

632,745 taels.

What if it had caused one death?

According to the lump sum casualty allowance standard,

it would have been 30 times

the taxes our country collected in the first half year…

Which is

985,990 taels.

That means

you would have caused more loss to me

than the loss of the whole manor.

So, you don’t need to thank me.

Thank yourself for not being a bolt of cloth.

That’s too much!

Not only are you arrogant,

you are also stingy and cold-blooded!

How could you compare a life with money?

What kind of parents could have

given birth to such a weirdo like you?

You…

Aoyi.

Qingliu, you got hurt.

It’s OK. Nothing serious.

How is that not serious? I’ll call the doctor.

No need. I’ll wrap it up.

I’ll help you with it.

The fire was so fierce,

did you go in to save…

No,

I hurt myself when I was

putting out the fire.

Master Li.

Say it.

The damage is not too big. Only three houses are burnt.

But,

there are two origins

for last night’s fire.

One is in Master Long’s yard,

the other is in the warehouse.

We can almost be sure that

the one set the fire wanted Master Long dead.

Xinsilu - Let me in. - I can’t.

Xinsilu

You can’t.

You can’t get in.

- Just let me in, let me in! - What’s going on?

Manager Yan.

You may leave.

Yes.

You are right on time.

Let me in, I want to see our Chief.

She just got a minor wound on her hand.

She’s hurt? Step aside.

You…

I’m sorry. I…

I don’t believe it!

I’ll get in no matter what!

I dare you touch me again!

- I dare you! I dare you! - No, please.

I… I won’t touch you.

But they are in there investigating the case now.

Silk Road You’d cause some misunderstanding if you get in,

and that would do no good to Master Long.

Believe me, once there’s a chance,

I’ll definitely let you in.

Really?

If I lie to you,

let me… let me end up with no wife.

Deal.

You know what?

I found a book days ago

which is full of the love letters

from those concubines out of favor to the emperor.

In this critical time,

you are also thinking about books!

I warn you,

if I can’t meet our Chief in a few days,

I’ll…

When you have time,

come for me with your books.

You didn’t leave any evidence, did you?

Don’t worry, Master Qiyan.

Let alone those officials,

even if the Buddha were there,

he would find nothing.

How about the person I ordered you to kill?

I don’t know that.

I hit her, and she...

She…

Loyalty as High as the Sky But as far as I know,

she’s safe and sound other than

some minor wound on her hand.

But… But… That’s not my fault.

She was too lucky.

Not your fault?

So is it my fault?

Is it?

My fault?

No, Master Qiyan, look,

I set fire on the silk manor.

You don’t understand what Master Qiyan said?

You didn’t kill Long Aoyi,

so what even if you burnt the whole Silver City down!

Master Qiyan,

I cannot control fire.

Whether the fire kills her or not

is not up to me.

Who was the one

that promised Master Qiyan the success?

Master Qiyan, please give me another chance.

I’ll kill her for sure!

Get out now!

Give me another chance, Master Qiyan!

Master Qiyan! Master Qiyan!

Get lost!

Master Qiyan! Give me another chance!

Master Qiyan!

Move!

But Master,

how did you know about

Long Aoyi’s wound?

Does that mean

there’s one of us in the government?
