Episode 3

Master Long.

Come on, calm down, please.

Here.

Nobody expected such a disrupter

half way through.

But just take it easy.

The surplus money of your bid price

will be sent to you tonight.

Great.

I can get hundreds of rare articles for my master then.

Master Long.

I’m leaving then.

Master Long.

She said her son Dachun was a member of your gang

and had been lost for days.

The whole family depends on her son for daily bread.

She hopes you can help her find him.

Dachun was missing?

Don’t worry, Madam.

When did you see him last time?

Mother, I am full.

Come on.

Let’s go, Dachun!

Mother, I will go out with them.

Don’t worry.

I will be back soon.

Don’t worry, Madam.

I will dispatch my men

in search of your son right away.

Thanks, Master Long.

You’re welcome.

Go.

I encountered Wu, the tomb robber,

before the auction.

He said he saw Dachun at the door

before entering the city for peddling.

He had disappeared

before Wu greeted him.

Why didn’t you say it earlier?

I …

Will you have admitted it if I had told you earlier?

Is this the rare stuff?

It is just a horsetail whisk.

Good luck indeed.

Or I would have wasted a lot of money.

5,000 taels?

10,000.

It is 10,000 taels.

10,000 taels would have been wasted.

Did you replace the gold threads with

the horsetail whisk by pretending

to offer a bid onstage just now?

I didn’t expect

the thieves of Longzhu Gang

were so despicable.

Where are my gold threads?

Thief?

Watch your words!

And watch your hands.

Gold threads?

As my master put it,

you are already enchanted

and take everything as gold threads.

Forget it.

Just take it as a lesson.

Return the money,

or you can’t leave here.

Don’t block my way.

I have no time to blabber with you.

Go away!

Long Aoyi.

I have concrete evidence. You can’t deny it.

This is what I found on the site where gold threats were lost.

This is a uniform of our gang.

What’s wrong?

Do you expect to join our gang?

The evidence is here.

You can’t deny it.

Yes.

Yes.

How can a young girl become

the master of Longzhu Gang?

- The fact is that - Yeah.

It is all because of frauds and lies.

Right?

Exactly.

Shut up!

Don’t slander our gang

in such despicable ways.

Or I will kick your ass.

Listen again.

Our gang never engages in stealing, fraud and gambling.

Any violator will receive

the punishment of broken limbs.

It is said they played a trick

by breaking the bowl

to defeat Snake Gang at Wanhua.

Such a despicable means of stealing isn’t

what a gang master is supposed to do.

It is hard to gain the respect that way.

Do you agree with me?

- Yes. - Exactly.

Nonsense!

Return me the gold threads.

Yes, there is concrete evidence.

- Yes. - Give back to him.

Just give back.

Yes, just give back to him.

Give back.

- Return my gold threads now. - Give back to him.

Stop it!

Dachun,

Master!

Don’t run away.

Don’t go away.

Don’t run away.

Wu Lin, what’s up?

Look, Your Highness.

Pepper!

Yes.

Wu Lin.

Make a secret search.

Is the auction over?

The last commodity was already sold.

They are coming out.

Let me go!

What are you doing, dude?

Let me go!

Clothes Shop

Help!

Somebody!

Help me!

Stop!

Why did you beat him?

Let me down!

Your Highness!

Be careful.

Don’t you know how to take care of a girl?

Stop!

Sir.

I am afraid you have caught the wrong person.

She is the female thief.

The wrong person indeed.

This is the thief

who robs a civilian girl publicly.

Shut up!

It is up to the official

to make a judgment.

Sir.

Keep a close eye on them!

Aren’t they the two ones in Silver City…

They are felons.

Lock them up in a room

and wait for a trial tomorrow.

Yes.

- One room? - One room?

It’s too late to regret now.

This is the sixth son of His Majesty,

Prince Zhao of the Tang Dynasty.

How dare you offend him!

Lock them up!

Who is that?

Watch them carefully!

- Prince! - Prince!

Hello?

Xinsilu

Yan Bin.

Miss Du.

Where are you going?

Where is your master?

Well.

Master was put in prison by Mr. Du.

What?

I must rush over there right away.

Father.

Where are you going, Xiaoxian?

Aren’t you accompanying Prince Zhao

and showing him around Silver City?

Li Qingliu, he…

Li Qingliu.

Li Qingliu and Long Aoyi

wounded Her Highness at the black market of Southern City.

Long Aoyi…

Xiaoxian.

Don’t you know the powers of Concubine De in the palace now?

Instead of getting well along

with him, you had him wounded

during the trip in Silver City.

If the central government traces the responsibility,

we will certainly be punished.

Now

everybody in Silver City knows that I am a prince.

How can I go there later?

I beg your pardon, Your Highness. The situation was out of control and

I had to report to the commissioner.

Go.

As ordered by Mr. Du, His Highness is sick now.

Please have a rest.

Who is sick?

The doctor diagnosed just now.

I am in a good condition.

I beg your pardon, Your Highness!

I am just following the order.

Look.

How bold is Du Changfeng.

How dare he place me under house arrest!

Call him here right away.

Yes.

The female hooligan of Longzhu Gang

destroyed my gold-thread clothes at Wanhua that day.

Father, Yan Bin told me

gold threads was stolen by her men.

The incident took place just for it.

Father, please check it clearly.

Xiaoxian,

I take Li Qingliu as my adopted son.

He is also a big figure in Silver City.

I naturally won’t blame him.

But Concubine De was already startled

by the injury of His Highness.

Li Qingliu certainly can’t

avoid imprisonment this time.

Father!

Okay.

I will beg Her Highness’s pardon.

- But … - Mr. Du.

Mr. Du, you are wanted by His Highness.

I will be right there.

Yes.

Xiaoxian,

things won’t improve these days.

Promise me

to accompany His Highness

and demonstrate our official attitude

as a token of apology for negligence.

The gold threads…

Are you still worrying about Miss Long, Your Highness?

Help!

Somebody! Help me!

Lovely.

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Mr. Du, you have come just in time.

I am fine.

Why don’t you let me go?

Moreover, it is said

you kept two people in custody for it.

Release them right away.

I beg your pardon, Your Highness!

I did it

at the order of Her Highness.

Before making sure you are well,

I must keep the offender in custody

and wait for further punishment.

Mother?

I started the emergency dispatch

to deliver the news about your injury

back to Chang’an.

You are a member of the royal family.

Her Highness will certainly dispatch the imperial doctor here after knowing it.

Let’s make a decision after the doctor

makes a detailed diagnosis of you.

Prison

Master Long.

You really did a good job for

all silkworm farmers of Silver City.

Yes.

You really did a good job for us.

Yes.

You have no idea.

Some days ago,

my uncle, aunty and cousin

wanted to commit suicide

because Snake Gang

cut the price of silkworms by 70%.

Just imagine silk and garlic

having the same sales price!

- Yes, yes. - Exactly.

Things are finally back to normal now.

The price of silkworms is back to normal.

February 2

is really a good day.

It is my duty.

Longzhu Gang is obligated

to serve our folks.

Thanks, Master.

Thanks, Master.

Why are you here this time, Master?

Who is that?

Why are you here with such kind of people?

Such kind of people?

Everybody.

He is head of the most profitable clothes and silk stores in the upper class

of Silver City today.

Li Qingliu, master of Xinsilu Silk Store.

Half of the silk of Silver City

must be cashed finally

at the stores of Master Li.

It is him.

Oh.

Unfortunately,

his fortune is useless here.

Does he have gold teeth in mouth

and gold sheets on face?

Let me check it carefully.

Check carefully!

I don’t know if he has gold teeth or not.

But listen.

You must bite the right place even if you have gold teeth.

It is really ridiculous for Master Li

to conclude Longzhu Gang has stolen

his gold threads based on a piece of rag.

What is even more ridiculous is that

this guy has followed me closely

these days, like a piece of sticker.

He even caused me to be put in prison.

If you hadn’t run away,

I wouldn’t have chased you.

Forget it. Somebody will come

to pick me up in less than half an hour.

As for you…

We will have a conclusion soon

if you have stolen it or not.

Don’t worry, Master Long.

We are backing you here.

Yes, we are backing you.

I am not worried.

I have done nothing wrong.

After the truth is known,

I will claim from those defaming me

and you must apologize to me publicly.

What are you doing?

Listen, don’t touch me.

Shit!

What are you doing?

Take the wheat straw as a dividing line.

We will share this place.

Neither should cross the line.

What?

Nothing.

I just don’t want to stay with a thief.

What are you talking about?

No problem.

Either of us who is found to advance

must surrender the same size of space.

I agree.

A full pack of rubbishes!

Just calm down, Master Qiyan.

I have good news for you.

Go ahead.

Li Qingliu and Long Aoyi are in prison.

Li Qingliu arrested a thief publicly at the black market.

We claimed for your wrongs.

Look,

it’s known across the whole city now.

Long Aoyi.

I already told you that your leadership wouldn’t last long.

Lofty Integrity Your good days are coming to an end.

Take it easy, Master Qiyan.

The pattern of that fabric is incomplete and blurred.

If Long Aoyi knows we framed her up,

she will definitely come to us for troubles

some days later after her release.

Shut up!

You only spoil things up.

Always

keep it

strictly confidential.

Don’t worry, Master Qiyan.

I had arrived before

their master arrived.

Our master has come personally

to confirm something with you.

Please check this fabric carefully.

You two guys have done a good job.

You don’t have to sell peppers at the black market.

Just be my aides.

Sir, make an arrangement.

Yes.

Long Aoyi.

Sir, may I go in?

Prison Who has admitted you here?

Prison Our master is in there.

I am coming to visit her.

Your master is in there?

Mr. Yan, I want to use the toilet.

Okay.

But our master is in there.

I just want to say hello to…

Aren’t you the servant girl of Master Long?

What’s up? You aren’t admitted?

Just beg me. I can help you.

Mr. Zhu,

I know

you have been very angry about it.

As you know,

our master isn’t to blame for it.

He…

I am in a dilemma indeed.

Your favor is kindly needed,

okay?

Prison

Let’s go.

You owe me this time.

Steamed bread, steamed bread.

Steamed bread.

Hushed!

What are you doing?

Stop.

What do you mean?

This is the jail of the government.

Please show some respects.

What are you doing?

What do you mean?

It was still half-half just now.

- Yes. Yes. - Exactly.

- What are you doing? - What do you mean?

You promised to back by two steps for each step forward just now.

I am already tolerant enough.

If I weren’t kept in custody here,

you would have no space now.

Master!

Li Qingliu, you are wanted by Mr. Zhu.

Master, are you okay?

Wait for me here.

Master, sorry for it.

Let me check. Are you okay?

What food have you brought here?

Thank you, Mr. Zhu.

You are welcome, Master Li. Sit down.

Take a seat.

You are the most influential merchant

of Silver City

and a good aide of Mr. Du.

It is great honor for me to offer a hand.

I have made many mistakes this time.

I hope you won’t mind it.

What else must I do before release?

I will make arrangements for it.

You don’t have to.

His Highness got injured this time.

What matters is not the damage to the reputation of Silver City’s market

but that the government has known it.

Mr. Du has been busy

with it these two days.

I hope the crisis can be settled soon.

I should be punished for erroneous injury of High Highness at the black market.

But frankly…

Don’t worry, Master Li.

His Highness has come to Silver City

to supervise the salt and iron business.

But you happened to injure him.

Mr. Zhu.

Just get straight to the point.

I recommend

you avail this opportunity to hand over

the Customs Seal of silk market

to the government.

Have you found Dachun?

It was too crowded

and he got away.

But Second Master’s already determined

the fabric belonged to Dachun.

I have inquired our men.

They said

the gold threads of Xinsilu were lost

at the same time as Dachun’s missing.

Really?

It seems that guy didn’t tell a lie.

Moreover.

At the black market of big bazar that day,

two people knew Dachun was going out to deliver goods.

Where are the goods then?

Nobody knows.

But Dachun told the two people that

it was a rare article.

To you,

you can pull yourself out of the quagmire

and prove your innocence.

To the government,

we can diversify the market channels.

I agree with you, Mr. Zhu.

Okay.

But my trading date

with the Persian merchant

on gold-thread clothes is coming.

I need to escort

the delivery personally then.

If the rules are violated and

the Fabric Bureau traces responsibility,

both you and I have to take the blame.

But it is said

the case of loss of Xinsilu’s gold threads

can hardly be cracked.

We already have clues of the gold threads.

The production of gold-thread clothes will resume soon.

You don’t have to worry, Mr. Zhu.

What really matters now is that

my imprisonment may delay the progress

of gold-thread clothes production

and thus affect the bilateral relations

between the Tang Dynasty and Persia.

I am afraid not only the Fabric Bureau

but the central government will trace the responsibility then.

Master,

if it was really done by Dachun,

what should we do then?

Don’t make a reckless conclusion now.

But the rumor says…

What is the rumor?

It says

you have managed the gang improperly

and engaged in fraudulent gambling and theft.

Master.

A little gall spoils a great deal of honey.

Master,

you have never undergone such hardships.

When can we leave here?

Ouch!

Yes.

Master, are you starving?

Eat something, eat something.

Master,

I have brought your favorite food.

Vinegar noodles with bolete and seafood soup,

Yak beef baked with cumin,

acid and hot crab egg cake,

apple jam with quail eggs,

top-grade yak neck beef of Tubo,

splashed with apple juices

of Qi and Lu States and

baked for the burning time of an incense.

The beefs are moderately soft and tenaciously tender, so yummy.

Go away.

You are not qualified

for our master’s dishes at all.

Master,

this is your favorite

black truffle

and juiced Liaodong sea cucumbers.

Liaodong sea cucumbers mixed with black truffle juices

Just help yourself.

Ugly girl.

I took you here in kindness and you stole my dishes.

Ugly? Why do you gaze at an ugly girl?

I…

I didn’t!

Birds of the same feather flock together.

Don’t make a fuss.

Finish the meal and leave right away.

It is said Dachun is a filial boy.

He will go back to see his mother soon.

Keep an eye on his home.

Everything will be clear after Dachun is found.

Okay.

Has Xiaoxian got any messages

about the Persian merchant?

Take it easy, Master.

Miss Du is asking for the helps of other silk merchants.

Remember,

keep the Customs Seal in proper custody.

Yes.

Our people will try to save you.

Just leave now.

Finish all the dishes

and have a good rest.

Whose sea cucumber is it?

It is so slippery and delicious.

I want to buy some gold threads from Mr. Dong.

I believe Miss Du won’t

have invited me to a meal without cause.

But Miss Du.

Your master’s temper is really unbearable.

Last month

at Fengman Restaurant,

I proposed a toast to him

but he just humiliated me

in public.

I heard

you wanted to buy a mansion

at Xinghua Lane of Western City

where officials gather.

I happen to have a discounted plot

ready for sale.

Miss, you should take a second thought.

Do you really want to sell this plot?

The gold threads determine the reputation of my silk store.

I have to sell it however reluctant I am.

Come on.

I propose a toast to you, Mr. Dong,

as a token of good faith.

I appreciate your straightforwardness.

Congratulations on our cooperation

with this cup of liquor.

Miss.

Cheers.

We need to taste the vintages

of this brewery more in order to know its value.

One more cup, Miss Du.

We shall contact with each other more

and help each other more in the future.

Mr. Dong,

I am not good at drinking.

I have to leave now.

How dare this old goat

harass you like that!

He must pay for it in the future!

Father refuses to find the gold threads for us.

If we can buy the gold threads from him,

I don’t care about such harassment.

But

we shouldn’t allow that kind of people…

Qingliu and I spent so many years

and efforts

developing Xinsilu

into the No. 1 brand of Silver City.

I can’t stand

its failure overnight.

Only more threads

can guarantee our success.

Mr. Du ordered all merchants not to involve in the issue of gold threads!

Madam.

You don’t have to, Madam.

We can wait at the entrance.

Thank you for your kindness.

Who are you?

What do you mean, Dachun?

It is you.

All people of the city know

Xinsilu’s gold threads are lost.

Everybody is looking for them.

Nobody dares to have it.

Just take it back.

As we agreed,

I only need to help you

sell the gold threads at the black market.

But

how can it be interpreted as

a stealing practice of our Longzhu Gang?

I didn’t finish the job on the one hand.

I even brought troubles to my master and brothers.

No.

I must go back to tell master the truth.

I don’t need the money.

My mother hasn’t seen me for days.

I must go back home.

Deng Dachun,

I will show you a place.

If Dachun really stole the gold threads,

sold the goods at the black market

and stopped it

at the sight of me,

why didn’t he come back home?

Is he hiding himself from somebody?

I didn’t expect Mr. Zhu was having an eye on the Customs Seal.

I must find the gold threads soon.

It seems

she didn’t instruct her boys to steal the gold threads.

Did Longzhu Gang’s men have an interest

in the gold threads one their own?

Northern Gate

Next.

Next.

Check it carefully!

Next.

Make way!

Image

Next.

Miss Du.

Thanks for your efforts these days, sir.

It is a little cold at night.

Buy some liquors to warm up

with the money.

You are welcome, Miss Du.

Some valuables were already stolen.

It is their duty.

Yes.

But my father is busy today

and doesn’t have time for it.

So I have come here personally

- to ask for your help. - Next.

After discovery of the gold threads,

our store will certainly reward you heavily.

I will also

praise you to my father more.

Thanks, Miss Du.

Next.

It is just a piece of cake.

Mr. Commissioner doesn’t have to worry about it.

Listen,

search carefully!

Never miss anybody and any place.

- Yes! - Yes!

How cold it is!

Do you know the stories of Phoenix with Extended Wings

and Immortal Offering Fruits?

I don’t know.

Foreign dishes.

Master Long, just tell us

and widen our horizon.

Phoenix with Extended Wings

can cure the crooked bones

due to long-term crouching.

As the legend goes,

the limbs of a person

are locked onto an enormous log cross

in a suspended way.

Finally, the wooden frame is rotated.

It is said

the person will be in severe pain

and suffer bone dislocation and even bone fracture.

Is it a torture for prisoners in history?

That is really so cruel.

Yes.

I don’t care.

Comfortable.

- Don’t look. Don’t look. - No.

Go, go, go.

Comfortable.

One is an accident.

Two means good luck.

Three indicates destiny’s child.

I hope Dachun is okay.

I hope my gang brothers are okay.

So many?

It must be very bad luck.

It is the decision.

Master Qiyan.

Aren’t those guys

the witch doctors of Longzhu Gang?

What did they come here for?

For what?

Longzhu Gang has broken up

and these members certainly

had to come and embrace our gang.

Congratulations, Master Qiyan.

The stories about Longzhu Gang’s fighting

and brawling are spread far and wide.

I believe

their reputation is certainly spoiled.

Moreover, it is also said

many Longzhu Gang members can’t hold on.

Many of them have left these days.

Master Qiyan, your plot is really a great one

as it not only defamed the Longzhu Gang,

threw Miss Long into the prison and

brought back the silkworm business,

but also won over many outlets.

We got so many benefits with it. Great!

Shut up!

Yes.

Do you expect them to hear it?

Our dependents must

make their due contributions one day.

Who is that guy

who came to our tobacco house

for smoking from time to time,

act as a jailer

and has a mole on the chin?

Zhang Liulang.

Exactly, it is him.
