[The Moon Brightens for You]

[Episode 5]

What are you guys doing here?

Nothing.

Wen You, get over here.

The person with the hidden weapon, he obviously wanted us dead.

We are not competing for the title, we are the target.

What have we ever done?

This person is very flexible, decisive,

it is no ordinary person.

Doesn't matter, whoever get in our way, we'll just kill them.

It's late, let's go.

Lin Fang, this person came for you, he's trying to kill you,

how can you still be calm?

What made you think I'm the target?

Sir Wen, you're the best contestant in this competition,

they'll have better chance without you in the picture.

Lin Fang, I honestly can't figure out what your plan is,

but I'm telling you,

you cannot drag Qinghong down.

I won't drag Qinghong down.

Hurry up, you two.

Congratulations,

you have successfully made it through round one,

including you three, now we have top 40.

Second round is about to begin.

Contestants, Please.

Amitābha.

Seems like the first round has successfully finished.

I'm going to round two.

Thank you.

Amitābha.

There's still some time till the second round.

I'll go check on the injured contestants.

Please, I'll be there shortly.

Tong Fu Inn

Hurry, hurry.

Slowly, slowly.

There,

are you ok?

There, hang on.

Be gentle.

Lay still.

- The wound cannot get in contact with water, change daily. - Okay.

- Hang on. - Thank you.

Slowly.

Hang on.

Be subtle, do not engage.

- If you found anything, bring it back discretely. - Yes.

- Hang on. - Here.

Go recruit some more medics to take care of them.

We have to limit casualties.

Yes.

Go away!

Hang in there.

Thank you.

If it's too painful, I can use acupuncture to help.

Is that ok with you?

I know it is a taboo among Wulin people.

I don't need it, I can manage.

- Okay. - Come on.

Get him something to bite down.

General Xiahou, General Xiahou.

You lied to me.

You're the one who's running away.

It's fine.

Xia Houying, you're hiding something!

What do you think? Who was the guy with the hidden weapon earlier?

Don't you care?!

Maybe the assassin is still among us!

We weren't prepared earlier, it's fine now we're on alert.

The person is not going to give up, when he makes a move again,

that's when he's exposed.

This is what we call 'stubborn swift'.

Ma'am.

Go away.

Isn't this the girl from family Zhan?

Even you made it through?

Did you cheat?

We didn't cheat, we took a shortcut.

Something a simple person like you would never think of.

Qinghong, don't mind him.

Let's go.

You!

Lady Zhan, Sir Wen. You are here as well.

Thanks to Lady Zhan.

Thank you, Lady Zhan.

It is well known that Family Zhan has spectacular kung fu, apparently it is true.

What are you talking about?

- We were almost... - Brother Yan come here.

We don't have any evidence, maybe there are more than one killer,

do not let anybody know about this,

instead, we should pretend to know nothing, investigate in secret,

Lin Fang's plan must be the same.

I knew he's no ordinary person.

You can guess what he's thinking, proves that you're not ordinary either.

I'm just using logic, I'm looking out for you.

In my opinion, you should stay away from him.

Wen You. Listen to me,

it's like how I trust you, I trust Lin Fang as well.

Even though he doesn't know Kung fu,

he is the bravest man I've met.

He is just a bookman.

But for his family, he came to this competition.

I admire his ambition, I really want to help him.

I am aware of his background.

Since you have trust in him, I won't say anything more.

However, don't try to ask me to put my guards down.

Sure, sure, sure.

I haven't thanked you for saving my life.

Let me ask you something, you're from a famous house in team A,

why are you hanging out with a nobody like me?

I... I...

I saw that everybody is just fighting around,

if you got kicked out, who am I going to fight?

Whatever you say, I think you as a friend, accountable.

Next round. Deity-ghost Chess.

Deity-ghost Chess, one pot time limit,

Winners go to next round, losers will be eliminated.

What is happening?

Thank you for the help, housemaster Ji.

We're friends, don't mention it.

Qinghong.

- Qinghong. - Watch out, Qinghong.

Hold on tight.

Lady Zhan.

Deity-ghost Chess, let it begin.

Heroes, for this round, before the water finishes dripping,

you must finish this game of chess.

- The chessboard has appeared, but how come there are no pieces?- How fun! How interesting!

- You risked your life saving me? - I,

What is it?

I didn't think too much about it,

I just knew that I couldn't let go of your hand.

Then can you let go of your hand now?

This is weird.

What did you do earlier?

What is it?

What is this thing?

Chess? Aren't we suppose to fight?!

I understand, the floor is the chessboard, we're the pieces.

Once the capes are on, we are all game pieces.

We need to create our own teams, and fight on this chessboard.

Look, boss!

[Soldier](T/N: Chinese chess piece similar to a pawn)

Grab the capes!

What if we don't manage to get any capes?

Then I guess we'll be eliminated.

You already have one! Why are you trying to get mine?!

I like to collect different colors, it's none of your business.

Eliminated?

Give it to me!

Give it!

No! Did you see Lin Fang?

It was so chaotic earlier, I didn't see where he went. You don't think...

I, on the other hand, think that he's the last person you should worry about Don't worry?!

he's the last person you should worry about Don't worry?!

You're a Kung fu master, and you almost died earlier!

He doesn't even know kungfu, he's probably already dead.

He must have found his way out, we should mind our own lives for now.

What do you mean?

That missy has the king cape, get it!

Go, I'll handle them.

I'll go find Lin Fang, run if you can't handle it.

This one should be easy, then don't mind me.

Give me the cape.

Your name is Ma Hei ("Black Horse"), is that why you want this black horse cape?

Bullshit.

Get rid of you means one less contestant.

Don't move.

I know my fate, but you're not far away either.

Timing and Subtitles brought to you by Team 7@ Viki

My advice is to limit your movements, it doesn't understand what you mean,

it might mis-interpret as mocking.

Just a long worm, why should I be scared?

You should know, this is sharp-kiss-whitetail,

also called Five-steps killer, one of the worst venomous snakes,

just one bite will melt your insides within five steps.

I'm not wasting my time with this long-ass worm,

I'll leave you to play with it.

Thank you.

Lin Fang.

Lady Zhan.

Why are you here?

Nothing, just took a wrong turn.

Let's get back. There's limited time.

- Hurry up. - It's a dead end.

This is effortless. Where can you go now?

Bring it, I don't mind getting a few more deaths with my sword.

Give me the cape!

Housemaster Su, even though you have more people,

you're no match for my two friends.

Bullshit! We're not afraid of a couple of kids.

Let's say we are evenly matched, but you do realize

if we got in this fight, it's going to take a while.

The water is dripping over there,

even if we reached a result, we will be injured.

And going to the next round injured means we're giving others a gift.

I think you are scared.

I am helping you. Also helping myself.

We can do this the civil way, why do we have to get injuries?

You are here for the king's cape,

I can give it to you, but with a condition...

You can't give it to him.

What condition?

We can trade. Give me your cape.

This is the king! What is yours? Elephant.

It's a pawn.

That's what I wanted. Or we can fight.

That's not fair.

Let's not trade.

Trust me.

Let's go.

Even though I know little about chess, at least,

I know that Kings are most likely to survive till the end.

This little pawn seems useless.

Chess is like a battle, pawns can be powerful.

Really?

Plus, we have Sir Wen, they are not our competition.

Wen You, are you good at chess?

He's just joking.

Sir Wen is a Shi people, of course he knows how to play chess.

Plus, the father of Sir Wen, Wen Qiao, he is a master of chess,

rumor says that the emperor even learns from him.

If we had Sir Wen's help,it would be a piece of cake to solve this game.

Don't flatter me, you,on the other hand, must be a chess master as well.

Otherwise you wouldn't give away

the most important piece so nonchalantly.

I do know a thing or two about chess, if you guys don't mind,

we can form an alliance, help each other.

Yeah, yeah.

In order to get the title, these people are not playing by the rules.

Even though you are the weirdest one, as long as your intention is not to harm Qinghong,

we can join hand for this round.

But this doesn't mean that you have my trust.

Building trust needs time, I'm in no hurry.

However, we are now three people,

but we only have two capes, yours and my pawn.

Take this one, I'll get another one.

You don't even know kung fu, how are you going to do that?

Fine, since you are a gentleman, you can have this one,

Qinghong, take this. I took it from them earlier,

you can have it.

So you're prepared.

Just like you.

Great, these are all red, we're on the same team.

It's just the cape-fighting phase, don't know how long will it be.

What's your plan?

The priority right now is to get them to stop.

How can we stop them?

That's easy. Send me up there.

I'll pour out all the water if you don't stop.

You'll be eliminated then.

Wenxuan.

Lin Fang, I know you don't know Kung fu,

but you don't have to pull this evil trick.

Wenxuan. Don't make a fool ofyourself in this competition,

get down from there.

If you did it, you'llcreate a controversy, even father will lose face.

Stop the chit-chat, he justneeds a good ass-whooping, go get the pot!

You can try.

If you keep fighting, the water would run out before the game begins.

All of you would lose if that happened.

I might as well pour all of the water out right now,

then we can go home early.

After all, it is unheard of

that everybody got eliminated from the competition.

Then you can become a joke,

you know, make yourselves famous,

make a name of yourselves.

Lin Fang's words are harsh, but he has a point,

if we kept fighting like this, it's not good for anybody.

I think you guys are in cahoots, you're messing up with us,

and you're threatening to pour out the water,

you're breaking the rules of the competition,

In my opinion, Lin Fang should be eliminated.

Yeah!

Eliminate him!

Get down from there.

Eliminate him!

Wenxuan, get down from there.

Eliminate him!

Get down!

He must be eliminated!

Eliminate!

- Eliminate him!- Yes, Eliminate him!

Eliminate him!

Eliminate him!

- Get down.- Eliminate.

Eliminate him!

Get down.

Everyone, sorry to interrupt,

the most handsome man from Jun'an, Lin Fang, Sir Lin,

even though he doesn't know kung fu, just a wimpy bookman,

but at this moment, he is in the cave doing something unbelievable.

He picked up the pot, tries to get eliminated

along with everybody else.

Why?

How dare him interrupt the game?

Even though he is my step-son,

I should conduct the matter by the book,

I decided to disqualify him.

I think Lin Fang's behavior can be considered proper.

Reverse psychology.

General, rules are rules,

if we play favoritism, Wulin people are not going to be happy.

Clock's ticking, the most important thing

is to get everyone to work together, Sir Lin

taking the risk of elimination,

tries to get everyone to stop kill one another.

Peace has the most power, Sir Lin is the definition of Wulin.

If Sir Lin got eliminated because of this,

then it is the biggest injustice in the history of the competition.

- He can't be eliminated!- Exactly!

He can't be eliminated!

Protest!

He can't be eliminated!

He can't be eliminated!

Lord Gu, you heard the people,

why fight against it?

He can't be eliminated!

Get down here, you bastard.

Get down!

- Eliminate him.- Get down. He must be eliminated.

Master, if the game didn't even begin before the water ran out, what happens then?

Everybody will stop at this round.

Stop arguing, master said if we kept doing this, everyone's going home.

The pot is still dripping, do we want to keep arguing or stop the fight?

Stop messing around, let's continue with the competition.

- Yeah! - The competition. Compete.

He's making it sound like I'm messing around.

Amitābha.

The game continues.

The Deity-ghost chess obeys the regular chess rules,

rule-breakers will be eliminated.

Make a move when the wooden fish bell is heard,

fail to move when the time's up, you're out.

Out when time's out? What kind of rule is this?!

Otherwise the game will go on forever.

You!

Everyone knows the chess rules?

Yes.

Let's begin!

Ignore him.

Cannon，

five steps, straight ahead.

Go.

I am the king,

you have to listen to me.

Who says that you're in charge now that you're the king?

Chess is a battlefield, whatever decides the result

is never the pieces with the signs on them,

it's the person who plays them.

You bastard, Lin Fang, you tricked me.

That's why you changed your cape with me.

King is useful,

but can be useless too.

You should stay in your little square, try to survive.

Celestial guidance.

Lin Fang, opening move, celestial guidance,

Pawn, on step forward.

Black team, Horse, forward.

No!

Cannon, forward.

I didn't expect you to be an expert.

Monkey Ma, why are you in charge?

Our opponent has said

it doesn't matter which piece it is,

that knight is trying to give in.

What's the holdup?

Ji Xiaoran impulsively charged into the heart of the enemy,

in an attempt to take the horse and cannon,

unfortunately, once he made the move, he's out.

He's taken by the opponent.

What...

The red team has lost two pieces,

now there's a drastic power difference,

playing defense is too passive,

now, what is Lin Fang going to do?

Yeah, what is he going to do?

Now what?

Looks like we have to put our lives on the line.

Listen to me, don't be impulsive,

we don't have a lot of time, we have to be quick,

we need to check mate within twenty moves.

Come on.

Horse, three steps forward.

Next, the black team sent out the knight,

the red team used the cannon,

Lin Fang, watch out.

Cannons,

cannons with horse.

Send out the middle pawn.

Under the direction of Lin Fang, the red team has taken many pieces,

the game has shifted, just like this, in the chessboard,

pawn, horse, cannon, cannon and king are in a line.

Looks like

he is trying to concentrate all the power in the mid-field,

all or nothing.

What's the situation now?

We have recovered a little, but we're still on the down side.

All they've sent in are pawns,

doesn't seem to be a big concern.

Pawns are better than knights once across the river.

It's not good.

I can take that pawn.

Don't move, our horse is in danger.

Knight, seven steps.

That pawn is a bait, don't move. Let the horse through.

What bait? We don't have any more time.

No, listen to Lin Fang.

Don't worry, I'll protect the horse.

That's short-term thinking, you only saw the second step, you didn't see the third.

Don't worry, they don't dare to take the horse.

Look. He wouldn't dare.

I would.

Sabotaging horse. So stupid!

What now?

Idiot!

What? We've been surrounded.

You!

Come back to protect me, guys!

Lin Fang, you have to win.

I can't fight you, I can hide from you.

Horse, four steps.

We need to hurry.

Looks like they are in a hurry to lose.

How about you decide the next move?

Well, Brother Monkey Ma, thank you.

Then, Pawn, six steps.

Kill them.

I'll hide.

Check mate.

This is the Two ghost gate strategy.

Too right pawns can't be looked down.

You, you, stay away from me, if you come any loser, I'll kill you.

Are we going to lose?

What should we do?

That's the second bell.

We'll lose the game when the third one comes.

They only need one more move to check our king.

Any other way?

There's one more thing we can try.

What is it?

It's our turn, and this is our opportunity.

Damn, damn, damn, the red team is in trouble,

if they don't give up Zhan Qinghong's piece,

the red team will lose the game.

Do you trust me?

- Yes. - No!

You're sacrificing her.

We have to give someone up in order to win.

Lin Fang, how can you ask her to die?

Stop arguing.

Lin Fang, if I made the move, are you sure you can win the game?

Yes, a big win.

Lin Fang, you're risking someone else's life!

I trust you. As long as we can win,

knight forwards, take the bishop.

Check mate.

You're trying to die.

King, back.

Qinghong,

Zhan Qinghong fell,

alive or dead?

Fell?

She sacrificed herself for the bigger picture.

Next, the red team, pawn, left,

check mate.

King,

back.

Red team, Wen You,

cannon, six forward.

Checkmate.

Next, some back and forth, Lin Fang checked the king a few times,

the red team suffered great loss.

The black team is not any better.

If no team checked the king within the time limit,

after the water ran out, both teams will be eliminated.

Pawn, forward, checkmate.

Stab to the heart!

You.

Amitābha.

Black team loses, red team wins.

Red team, please go to next round,

Exquisite tower.

They won, they won!

- Told you.- Great.

They won.

Awesome.

Our Wulin has hope now.

Lord Gu, you don't look well,

are you still worried about your son?

General, We found a body,

we suspect it's Sun Chuang from Flying eagle.

Lord Gu, we have to ask you to come with us,

something has happened.

Lin Fang, in order to win, you're willing to sacrifice anybody, aren't you?

If it's worth it.

What does a life mean in your eyes?

She listened to you,

now we don't even know she's alive!

Why are you so sure something bad happened to Qinghong?

I'll drop it if she's fine,

if something happened to her,

I will not let you go.

I'm worried about Qinghong as well,

but I don't think Qinghong is in a bad situation.

What made you say that?

Sir Wen, you'll agree with me

if you think about it.

You care about the title this much?!

All of your questions will be answered.

Just not right now.

Wen You,

Wen You, you're ok!

Qinghong, You're ok!

Everyone is ok? Everyone's ok?

All good?

All good. That's good.

You, are you alright?

Not completely, a little painful.

That's good to hear, you don't know how much I...

What happened after you fell in?

After we fell, we were brought to a room to rest.

There's food and water, medics too!

I even took a shower,

I would've fallen in the hole a lot sooner

if I knew that's what was going to happen.

Qinghong, don't worry,

in the next rounds, I'll protect you.

Really?

I don't need your help.

Let's go, let's go to exquisite tower.

Let's go.

Don't forget what you said earlier.

Come on.

Come on. Carefully.

Lin Fang, you said a big win, and you delivered!

Did you already know when the team wins, the whole team goes to the next round?

I wasn't that sure,

what happened exactly?

I was planning on leaving after I fell in the hole,

but someone told me that the fate of the team depends on the result of the game.

So you're not eliminated?

The entire red team players made it to the next round?

Did you know that when you're playing?

I just placed a bet, I didn't know, but I won.

A bet?!

You were betting Qinghong's life!

This round seemed dangerous, cold-blooded,

actually it has a deeper meaning,

the result of the game depends on every single piece, we're a team.

The ones who sacrificed made contributions for the game, of course

they are winner, too.

You're absolutely right.

Giving our backs to your mates, that's the meaning of true friendships.

We are that kind of friends.

Of course.

I wouldn't give my back to someone like that.

Wen You, nothing happened to me, stop blaming Lin Fang.

No one should overestimate him just because of is Kung fu,

however, his words and mind games are top level.

Comparing Kung fu, naturally, I'm no match for those masters.

Unfortunately, I was born with a weak body,

I have to find a different way to compensate my disadvantages.

Lady Zhan, can I have a word?

Sure.

Anyway, you can't treat Qinghong like that in the future.

Lady Zhan, before the game, I just thought of you as a little girl,

little did I know, you're brave and smart, without your sacrificing,

I, Senior Su, could not have made through the game.

I owe you this debt.

Don't mention it.

I, Su Batian, am a redneck,

but I know hatred and gratitude,

I looked down on you before,

but from now on, I swear, after the competition,

no matter what the result is, as long as I'm alive,

I will be protecting you!

I won't let anybody hurt you!

I am a redneck too, the past is the past, it never happened.

We're friends starting now.

Okay.

Contestants, please take a seat,

next round will begin shortly.

Sister Yanzhi,

come on, sit here.

Lady Zhan, we've made it through thanks to you, Thank you.

That's too kind, I didn't do much,

I just places my trust in Lin Fang, that's all.

You trust Lin Fang?

Of course.

Our families go way back, he won't hurt me.

That's true.

She gave me gifts before, how come she's so cold now?

She's here for the power and the fame, not for friendships.

Is that why you're here?

Me?

What do you mean?

Look.

Come on.

Lin Fang seems odd, I still worry about him.

You care about him?

You know what I mean.

I just think that he has a different goal,

he is being nice to us, but maybe he's using us.

Using people he just met?

He's so wimpy yet so confident, playing those masters like a pro,

he's usually a rich playboy, this is so not like him.

There must be something going on.

You're over-thinking.

He must be prepared if he dared to come here,

the committee didn't say that you can't compete if you don't know kung fu.

And there's no rule against alliances, like you and me,

we're helping each other, right

That's different.

Different how?

I...

I won't take advantage of you, let alone sacrifice you.

But that's not the case for Lin Fang,

he's always calm, and decisive, in order to win, he will do anything!

But, He must have assistance.

You don't believe me? Just wait and see.
