[The Promise of Chang'an]

[Episode 26]

I don't care about any of you, I only care about you.

Zhen'er.

Your Highness, why are you always using your hands?

Enough. I'm grateful for your kindness.

But I won't leave Consort Xian.

You should go back. It's not good if you're discovered.

Why?

You'd rather be suffering here?

Does Helan Mingyu have something on you?

Do you have an indentured note in her hands?

- Fine, I'll talk to her and tell her to release you. - Wait.

What does she have on me? What indentured note? Consort Xian saved my life before.

You want me to abandon her and disregard her. Do you want me to be someone who has no conscience?

I don't mean for you to have no conscience.

- Isn't it— - Enough, Your Highness. You should go back.

Do you want His Majesty to know that you came here?

If you don't leave now, I'm going to shout.

- I'm going to shout. - Don't shout, don't shout.

I'm leaving.

- I'm shouting. - I'll come back again until you agree to leave with me.

Eunuch Wang, this is the monthly supply and supplements for the travel palace.

Please inspect and accept.

It's all good.

You've worked hard, Guard Li, after a tiring journey.

Why don't you go inside to drink a cup of hot team and take a rest?

Thank you, Eunuch Wang.

- Carry them inside. - Yes.

Mingyu, I just heated some water. Soak your hands and wipe your face.

- You can probably warm up some. - Alright.

Here.

You too.

This feels so good.

Don't your whole body feel warmed up?

It's already the beginning of spring.

Why is the weather still so cold?

Oh yes, when I was coming this way just now, I saw the monthly supply arrived from the palace.

Later, I'll ask them for some fabric and made you a new dress.

Make one for yourself too.

Consort Xian, please take your meal.

What is this? This bun is already moldy. How can it be eaten?

- Zhen'er— - Sister Zhen'er, it's useless to get upset with us.

We are only taking orders from above.

Sure, you can't make the decision, right?

- I'll go find the person who can make decisions. - Zhen'er, forget about it.

Eunuch Wang.

Miss Zhen'er, instead of walking your own path,

why are you blocking my way?

Eunuch Wang, I'm going to say it directly.

Since the monthly supply has arrived from the palace,

please distribute to us the charcoal and furs that we're supposed to get.

Also, give us the daily food according to rules.

Don't give us the moldy and rotten food.

The monthly supply from the palace has indeed arrived.

However, I'm afraid what you want isn't there.

Isn't there? How is that possible?

My master is Consort Xian. Even though she came here,

the palace wouldn't shortchange her.

As I see it, clearly you've filled your own pocket.

Consort Xian? A consort is only a consort in the palace.

When she comes here, she probably isn't even at the level of a servant.

- You... - At least a servant has a future.

Any consort who comes here can only wait until they die.

It's good enough for you to have a bite of something to eat.

Instead of showing gratitude for me kindness,

you actually dare to be critical in front of me.

I tell you what, this is my territory. Even if I give you give you pig's feed,

you'd still have to obediently eat it.

You damnable eunuch, how dare you denigrate Her Highness!

- I'll beat you up! - Guards! Pull her away!

You damnable eunuch, you won't get a good death!

kneel down.

This girl wants to escape but gets caught.

She'd even dare to fight back. Beat her!

Stop it! Stop it!

Stop it!

Zhen'er, Zhen'er.

Zhen'er.

Zhen'er, are you alright?

Let me see where you're hurt.

Consort Xian, you are a master in the palace.

No one dares to disobey your orders.

This is not the palace here.

Whatever you say won't count.

Here, it's what I say that counts.

Eunuch Wang, you are an old hand in the palace.

Things change in the world. You should understand the principle of leaving some room in everything you do.

Fine. Although Ling wasn't able to escape,

but with Consort Xian's guarantee,

I'll pay you respect today

and temporarily spare this girl.

It's just that... if it happens again,

don't blame me for not being kind.

Are you alright?

I'm fine. But you, why did you rush over like this?

What if they beat and injure you by mistake?

This Eunuch Wang is such a bully.

I should have...

Zhen'er, do you know what?

When a person stands under the eaves, he must lower his head.

If we want to live in peace,

we must tolerate more.

But... but they don't want to give us anything.

It's fine.

We can't wait.

But your health is most important.

Let's go, I'll help you go back to the room.

Mingyu, why are you burning these firewood?

Be careful about the smoke getting into your eyes.

I'm burning these firewood.

They can warm us up when we carry them into the room at night.

Let me do it. You go rest.

You're injured. I can do this work.

You go inside.

Mingyu, I'm sorry.

It's all because of me.

I'm too impulsive.

I always tell myself not to be impulsive whenever I encounter something.

But, I never can suppress my anger.

I've made you worry for me.

This is your temperament.

If it's changed, you won't be you.

I know that you did it all for me.

- I don't blame you. - But...

Enough now. Go lie down in the room.

Be good.

Hurry and go.

It feels so good, so warm.

Mingyu, ever since we have this stove,

- we can finally sleep well. - Yes.

Hurry and sleep then.

Mingyu! Mingyu, wake up! Fire!

Hurry! Hurry and run!

Mingyu! Mingyu!

- Chengxu! - Your Highness.

How are you? Are you alright?

- Why are you here? - I saw thick smoke rising outside.

Why is it burned like this?

- Are you injured. - I'm fine. It was just a scare.

Zhen'er, what exactly happened?

The eunuch that's in charge is filling his own pocket and won't give us charcoal.

We got so cold that we had to burn firewood for warmth.

But this fire isn't the same as charcoal, it dies easily when it's covered.

We got careless, and a fire started.

If His Majesty weren't so coldhearted,

how can these damnable servants be so harsh to you?

I'll get someone to send some supplies to you tomorrow.

You must not do it. If you're discovered, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Can't do this, can't do that, should I simply watch you

suffer and starve without peace? I can't do it!

Chengxu, don't say this anymore. You should hurry and leave.

Zhen'er shouted a few times when the fire started just now.

Probably some people will come in a little while. Don't let them discover you.

When I came in, there wasn't a single nigh guard outside.

It's obviously how they disregard and look down at you every day.

These lowly slaves are really deplorable.

Bow to the higher-ups and step on the lowly ones, it's human nature.

If you get upset over these trivial matters, it's not worth it.

Mingyu, I won't let you continue to live this way.

Believe me.

I will change all of this as soon as I can.

[Imperial Study]

I just received an urgent letter

from Ying City near the border.

Great Liang's General Chen Wenzhi is invading with an army of 100,000.

Ying city is urgently asking for help.

My two trusted counselors, who do you think

I should send to help?

Your Highness, Ying city is originally Liang's territory.

All the residents were Liang's people. We have conquered the city not for long.

I'm afraid not everyone there is loyal to us,

while the Liang army has the advantage of terrain and people. Without a ferocious general to guard it,

I'm afraid that we'll lose Ying city again.

If Ying city is lost, it will affect the nearby three cities as collateral damage.

The Liang army can even station itself there and target our interior land.

Therefore, we cannot lose Ying city.

As for a ferocious and battle-hardened general, the best is Prince of Yan.

I know that Prince of Yan is the most suitable.

However, Great Sheng has had frequent battles in recent years,

it has always been Prince of Yan to lead the fights.

The three battalions under him have suffered a lot of losses.

I've promised him to let him rest and regroup for a while.

Besides, the battle at Ying city will be a hard fight.

I can't go back on my promise to force him.

Other than Prince of Yan, none of the generals

in court has the certainty to win.

Your Majesty, I have an idea.

Perhaps it will let Prince of Yan to volunteer to fight.

Minister Wang, tell me your good idea.

They say, "With a high reward, there will always be brave men."

As long as Your Majesty promise Prince of Yan a huge reward,

if he can successfully push back the enemy and capture Chen Wenzhi,

you will award Ying city to the leading general that guards it.

Even though Prince of Yan is our high official, but he doesn't have a conferred feudal land.

I'm sure once Your Majesty gives this promise,

Prince of Yang would naturally be impressed.

Counselor Li, what do you think?

If he can defeat the fierce enemy and capture their leading general,

it will be a great help to Great Sheng's unification plan.

Compared to that, the city of Ying is not that important.

Lord Li is right.

We await for Your Majesty's wise decision.

To encourage morale,

If anyone can defeat the enemy army

and capture Chen Wenzhi,

I will confer Ying City to that person.

Your Majesty, I'm willing to lead troops to give aid.

Your Majesty, I'm willing to fight.

Your Majesty, I'm also willing to lead troops to give aid.

You are all patriots.

I will appoint Prince of Yan as the Protectorate General.

General Zhang and General Li as Deputy Generals.

When you go, be united in one heart,

guard our nation's land.

We will definitely disregard our lives

and not disappoint Your Majesty.

Lord Wang, you've worked hard.

- Yan Hai, escort Lord Wang out. - Yes.

Please, My Lord.

This Wang Weiyi really is someone who remembers to show gratitude.

Older Brother, you have a good eye. The people you select are good.

Wang Weiyi is a chess piece that our maternal grandfather placed a long time ago.

Now, we can finally use it.

It's done.

- Zhen'er. - Your Highness.

Chengxu, why are you here again?

If anyone discovers you and informs His Majesty, the consequence will be unimaginable.

Don't worry. The fact that I can come,

it means I won't be discovered.

Zhen'er, go outside to guard the place.

I want to talk with Mingyu.

- Alright. - Wait.

It's cold outside. Put this on.

Mingyu, Ying City is under attack.

I have to leave on an expedition immediately.

I came over to ask you a question.

Answer me after you've thought through it.

If there is an opportunity to let you leave this place,

leave the palace,

leave your identity as Great Sheng's Consort Xian,

so that you can leave freely.

Will you do it?

What do you mean by saying this?

I'm going to burn down this travel palace.

What?

- You... - I'm going to take you

to a place where no one recognizes you

under a new identity

to live freely.

This is

really an important matter.

I can't decide

so suddenly.

Mingyu, why are you hesitating?

What else can't you let go now?

Xiao Chengrui can treat you like this,

why can't you let go of him?

When I married His Majesty,

I was forced by the situation.

Now that His Majesty and Older Sister are fond of each other,

he is full of suspicion against me.

What is there that I won't let go?

Then what are you still worried about?

It's just that,

if I give up the identity as Consort Xian,

it also means that

I'll give up the identity as Princess of Yonglin.

I probably won't able to visit

my homeland in Yonglin ever again.

Don't worry, I won't let you become anonymous

and never to return your homeland.

If Xiao Chengrui dies someday,

his power is gone,

then you won't need to hide.

In this world,

you can go to any mountain or river.

Chengxu, what are you thinking of doing?

I've been preparing for my revenge.

For Mother Consort,

for you, for myself, I will ask for justice.

Mingyu, I won't let you wait too long.

That day will come very soon.

Chengxu, your brotherly bond with His Majesty

can never be really terminated.

If there is a wrong step,

you will lose terribly.

Chengxu, you must think it over.

Mingyu. I know that you're very worried about me,

but ever since I learned

that Xiao Chengrui forced the Princess Consort Mu to death for the position of king,

and that he abandoned and treated you terribly,

my brotherly bond with him became long gone.

Right now, I only have endless hate for him.

If I cannot use revenge to extinguish the flame of anger in my heart,

then this flame of anger will destroy me.

[Imperial Study]

On the day of your triumphant return,

I will come out to meet you.

Thank you for your kindness, Your Majesty.

Long live Your Majesty for a 10,000 years. 10,000 years.

What's wrong?

This blanket not only is full of holes, but there is also a scent of mold.

That good-for-nothing eunuch. The next time I bump into him,

I will surely punish him terribly!

It's fine. Why are you so agitated?

These things can be dealt with easily.

We can clean the blanket and patch up the holes.

Mingyu, I feel that this isn't worth it for you.

In all your years of life, when have you ever suffered like this?

You are Yonglin's pearl.

You were supposed to live proudly and have the adoration and respect of thousands

rather than to be banished here and

get belittled and trampled over by those who are lesser than you!

Mingyu, can you really accept living like this?

No. I cannot.

Ms. Zhen'er.

General Yan.

Mingyu.

I have come to visit Consort Xian.

Quickly.

Quickly.

Fire! Fire!

The north wind is blowing tonight. The fire will follow the wind.

This fire will not be able to be extinguished no matter how great their efforts.

Big fire in the travel palace, and a consort dies.

Eunuch Wang won't get off the charge of incapable safeguarding.

If we think about it like this, then all of our revenge has been taken. So satisfying.

This large fire is not just burning up the palace,

but it's also burning up my past.

Zhen'er, my new life

is about to come.

I believe that it will be a happier life.

Your Majesty, Mingyu has been in the palace outskirts for quite a while now.

Take into account that she did her best to serve you before

and let her come back.

I made a declaration

that she was never to leave in her entire life.

I cannot just let it pass.

Reporting to Your Majesty,

The palace outskirts just brought a message

that in the night, there was a huge fire. Consort Xian unfortunately...

unfortunately died in the fire.

What?

Say it again.

Your Majesty, there was a fire in the palace outskirts.

Consort Xian was trapped in the fire and died.

What?

Mingyu couldn't have died. You must be mistaken!

Your Majesty! Go get people to bring Mingyu back!

Your Majesty the Empress, I would never have gotten it wrong.

The guards have already...

brought back... Consort Xian's corpse.

Please take care of your own health, Your Majesty.

How could this have happened?

Mingyu...

Your Majesty.

Now, are you happy?

You said that she would never be able to leave that palace in her entire life,

and today, it has become truth.

At the time, you ignored the injustice and cruelly abandoned her.

Today, I just want to ask you one thing.

Mingyu's death,

do you regret it or not?

Mingyu...

Mingyu... It was me who was bad.

It was me who shouldn't have brought you into the palace.

Imperial Noble Consort. Consort Xian was killed in a palace outskirt fire.

Is this true?

I wouldn't get such an important event wrong.

I heard that her corpse was already destroyed.

If there wasn't a jade piece of jade left over from her body,

then even her corpse would not have been recognizable.

Mingyu... Mingyu!

What are you doing?

I need to go see Mingyu. I need to see her for the last time.

Imperial Noble Consort. Calm down a bit.

I pushed her out to the travel palace only to discipline her.

I didn't want her to die.

Imperial Noble Consort, don't blame yourself.

Hui'er, prepare.

I want to hold a memorial ceremony for Mingyu to pray for her

so that she will be reborn in a good family

and have a good ending.

Yes. I will go prepare right now.

Then, where is His Majesty?

What is His Majesty going to do?

After His Majesty heard of her death, he never left his study.

Liang's army is defeated! Liang's army is defeated!

Protectorate General has personally captured Liang's General Chen Wenzhi!

His Highness Prince of Yan is brave and invincible!

His Highness Prince of Yan shall live 1,000 years and more!

His Highness Prince of Yan is brave and invincible!

General Chen, there are two roads in front of you.

One, you can surrender to Great Sheng and become Great Sheng's subject.

The other, I immediately have you dragged out and beheaded in public,

and use your blood to pay tribute to the dead soldiers of Great Sheng.

Choose one of the two.

Fine, fine.

Now that the morale is dissipated in Great Liang,

but Great Sheng is prospering like the morning sun rising from the east.

I, Chen Wenzhi, am willing to pledge allegiancee to Sheng's emperor and assist in his great success.

Good. To get such a great asset as General Chen,

our emperor will definitely be gratified.

General, please rise.

Your Highness, I have the map of Great Liang's military positioning layout.

To show my sincerity, I will offer this map.

Great Liang's map of military positioning layout? If we get it,

it will be helping our Great Xiao Battalions like adding wings to a tiger.

I would like to meet His Majesty and personally offer this map.

Impertinence!

You are a defeated general. What qualifies you to make this demand?

It's alright. I will do as you wish.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Your Highness, be careful not to get chilled.

I just know that you're not dead.

I just know that you're still alive.

I just know that you'd come back to find me.

Your Majesty coughed all last night.

I told the royal physician to add some calming ingredients to the herbal medicinal soup.

The royal physician said, pressing the acupuncture point here

will stop the coughs. How about I press it for Your Majesty?

Are you satisfied now?

You said she would be forbidden to leave the travel palace for the rest of her life.

Your words are now fulfilled.

I will just ask you one question.

Mingyu's death...

Do you regret it or not?

Your Majesty, I have brought that person here according to your order.

Bring him in.

Your Majesty, spare me! Your Majesty, spare me!

Your Majesty, spare me! Your Majesty, spare me!

Let me ask you.

The travel palace got on fire, and my Consort Xian died.

Why are you still alive?

Your Majesty, I did my best to save Consort Xian.

But, the fire was too ferocious,

and I couldn't help it.

Couldn't help it?

Your Majesty, spare me!

Spare you for being unhelpful!

Do you think that I don't know what you did?

Who gave you the gull to mistreat my Consort Xian?

If you didn't neglect intentionally,

how could Consort Xian be trapped in the fire?

Your Majesty, spare me!

My Consort Xian

was killed by treacherous servants like you!

I know I've done wrong! I know I've done wrong!

- Your Majesty, spare me! Your Majesty, spare me. - Guards.

Drag this treacherous servant away.

Kill him by beating him with sticks.

Drag him away!

Your Majesty, I know I did wrong!

Your Majesty, I really did my best!

Spare me, Your Majesty!

I really did my best, Your Majesty!

Your Highness, that seemed to be Chief Wang of the travel palace.

Greetings, Imperial Noble Consort.

Eunuch Man Fu, is His Majesty inside?

Imperial Noble Consort, His Majesty is resting inside the hall.

Imperial Noble Consort, His Majesty has decreed that

no one is allowed to bother him inside unless summoned.

Eunuch Man Fu, don't you realized the person you're blocking is Imperial Noble Consort?

Even if His Majesty won't see anyone, it's impossible that he won't see Noble Consort.

Please report for me then.

I'm really concerned about His Majesty.

Please wait a moment, Noble Consort.

Your Majesty, Imperial Noble Consort would like to visit you.

Don't you know how to do your job?

Didn't I say I'm not seeing anyone?

Scram!

All of you, scram! All of you, scram!

[Imperial Study]

You probably should go back, Imperial Noble Consort.

Eunuch, are you sure about Imperial Noble Consort? Aren't you mistaken?

Forget it. let's go back.

[Lin Hua Hall]

Ling Zhen'er, I wanted you to leave the palace.

I wanted you to marry me, but you just wouldn't listen.

If you had married me, you would not have suffered today.

Zhen'er, no matter how much

unhappiness I encountered in the palace,

or how much unjust suffering,

I never thought of leaving.

I never imagined

what the scenery would be if I left the palace.

And now, I've finally left the palace behind.

I've gotten rid of the identity of Consort Xian.

There is no more intrigue, suspicion, scheming,

and I feel at ease and carefree.

Even the air smells sweet and fragrant.

To think about this time, I'm really impressed by Prince of Yan.

What do you mean?

I originally thought that

Prince of Yan risked the danger of execution to save you

so that he could keep you by his side to stay forever.

Even though His Highness loves you, but he has an official wife after all.

If he lets you become untitled and without status,

wouldn't it be just the same as in the palace?

Chengxu wouldn't think like that.

That's right.

That's why you are the only one who understands His Highness.

You know that, regardless of what His Highness does,

he is considering for your sake wholeheartedly without any selfish reasons.

I'm actually the one who suspected wrongly.

However,

Mingyu, where do you want to go now?

Are you really not going to be with Prince of Yan?

The world is large. There has to be a place for me to stay.

Even though Chengxgu is careful in planning,

we can't lower our guard.

After all, Great Sheng is under His Majesty's control.

So we must be careful in whatever we do.

We must not expose our traces.

As for Chengxu and me,

there is still time, and we must not be hasty.

We can only follow Heaven's arrangement.
