was very hard.

At home, there is no water

and no electricity.

two meals a day,

and some days,

they feed the children

and her parents would have

fasted the whole day.

We have to struggle a lot,

but from childhood,

we both were very passionate

about dancing.

- We watched - "America's Got Talent"

And we just dreamt

of going there

and performing

on that big stage.

Dancing is everything

in our lives.

Growing up in hard times,

it is the thing that made us

dream big and reach big.

Now we are here

living that dream.

We feel very lucky

that we have family

that support us.

But I just loved drumming

so much,

I didn't even care

I always wanted to be in

the collegiate marching band

And after high school,

I got to live

that "Drumline" experience.

- From that point on, I knew - that I wanted to do this

For the rest of my life.

I started performing

- everywhere and anywhere - that I could.

- But when you're chasing - your dream,

It's really difficult.

So I took to street performing.

I was doing what I love,

but you don't know

if you're gonna be able to eat

that day.

Sometimes I was sleeping

in the train station.

There were plenty of moments

where I really had to think,

like, is this really worth

to keep going?

- One night, - I borrowed my mom's car

To go street perform

and coming back, I was tired

and I fell asleep

behind the wheel.

I woke up in the hospital

to the doctors telling me

I'm lucky to be alive.

When you're one moment away

from losing your life,

it really makes you think

about everything you're doing.

And that's why I came

to "America's Got Talent."

This is my chance

to show the world who I am

and I'm giving it

my absolute all.

It's a choir I started

about four years ago

for people experiencing

homelessness in San Diego.

Yes.

- What an amazing idea.

- Wow.

- There was so many people - living unsheltered

In my neighborhood.

I met musicians and singers

and I was like, "Wow,

- we could put together a group - and sing together."

- There's people - who are in the choir,

- They can't afford medicine, - they can't afford rent.

- So we help them out. - Right.

- And through the money - that we've raised,

- We've helped people - get off the street.

- I'm Casey.

I've been homeless on and off

since I was 18.

- My name is Mark

and I've been homeless

for seven years.

- My name is Derek.

I've been homeless since 2012.

- My name's Patricia.

I've experienced homelessness

from the age of 18

up till now.

Homeless doesn't just fit

one skin color,

one age bracket.

- It's hard

trying to get it together

and people look at you

like you're dirt.

- I've had a lot

of bad experiences out there.

Beat up, robbed.

- Yes.

- But who is gonna listen

to me?

- I met people who were having

to fight for their life.

I wanted to help.

That's when I started

the choir.

- ♪ When it rains, it pours ♪

- I thank God

for Voices of Our City Choir.

Somebody wants to hear from me

and I'll be singing loud.

- I love all these people.

If it wasn't for the choir,

I wouldn't... I wouldn't be here.

The choir has brought me back

and...

so many people

who are underrepresented

or not represented.

- The arts saved me

in so many ways

I want to encourage
