Episode 31

Sister Su,

How do you feel?

Don't get up in a hurry.

How do you feel?

The fireworks.

How did it go?

Don't worry. The fireworks weren't set off.

No one's hurt.

That's great.

But...

No.

No. Young Master is in trouble.

What happened to him?

Prince Yun accused him of conspiracy.

He is being investigated in the main hall now.

Where are you going?

Sister Su.

I want to help him.

You are too weak to go.

I have to.

I can't just stand by and watch him

being framed by Prince Yun.

Take it easy.

Be careful.

Officer Liu.

Don't be afraid.

You just have to tell the truth.

Yes.

According to the record of the Ministry of Rites,

the preparation of the banquet was led by Prince Qi.

The transportation and the production of the fireworks,

as well as the schedule of the fireworks

were all approved by Prince Qi.

Liu Xuan, get straight to the point.

Everyone knows that

the banquet was led by him.

We don't need you to emphasize it again.

Okay.

Just tell us the investigation result.

Yes.

Let's start with the poisonous powder then.

The poisonous powder in the Auspicious

is a strong poison called Udumbara.

A tiny amount is enough to cause death.

It can harm the lung once it's inhaled.

If the fireworks were to be set off,

the Zhaoyang Stage as well as

the whole palace would be affected.

All the guests

would be dead.

The consequences could be disastrous.

That's rebellion! It's conspiracy!

Her Highness is right.

Previously,

a confidant of Prince Qi, Jiang Xiwen

was suspected of killing a craftsman named Tian Yong.

This case

was also handled by the Mingjing Office.

Tian Yong was repairing a warehouse then.

And the goods in the warehouse

were these poisonous powder called Udumbara.

Officer Liu,

I knew about this case.

But no solid evidence could prove

that Jiang Xiwen killed Tian Yong.

Are you provoking us?

Jiang Xiwen committed suicide to escape punishment.

And the cause of his death has been unknown.

What was him actual motive then?

His actual motive

I'm afraid, was to silence somebody.

This...

How vicious.

Detective Su, you...

Commander Fu,

we need to see His Majesty now.

Irrelevant people are not allowed to enter.

Detective Su, please leave now.

It's regarding the fireworks case.

I really have something important to tell His Majesty.

Please let us go inside.

Breaking into the hall without permission

is offending His Majesty

and will be sentenced as assassin.

Detective Su, you'd better leave now.

But...

Commander Su, something bad has happened.

A group of people suddenly attack the city

from the West gate.

Detective Su, please leave now.

Sister Su, quickly go in now.

I'm going to the West gate with Commander Fu.

OK.

Let's go.

There's another thing quite suspicious.

The warehouse that stored the poisonous powder

belonged to Sha Du, a businessman from the Western region.

He was killed suddenly a few months ago.

After investigation,

we found that His Highness was at the crime scene.

Your Highness, was it true?

Yes, I was there.

Everyone has heard it, right?

How can there be such a coincidence in the world?

Everything involving the poisonous powder

was related to the men of Prince Qi.

We have all the evidences now.

Prince Qi,

you're the mastermind behind it.

Really?

How could he do that?

How could he do such things?

The mastermind of the Fireworks case is not Prince Qi.

I'm Su Ci from the Mingjing Office.

Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Su Ci,

how come it's you again?

Who allowed you to break into the main hall? Get out now!

Liu Xuan, let her speak.

Su Ci, stand up and speak.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Tell us what you've found..

In my investigation,

I found that a few craftsmen working on the fireworks

were poisoned by Udumbara too.

And they all got poisoned

when they were making the last firework.

Then, do you know who planned this?

It's him.

Liu Xuan.

What?

What happened exactly?

When I was investigating the Jiang Xiwen's case,

some people in the capital were transferring a batch of poison secretly.

And the poison was Udumbara.

All the people involved in this case were killed.

I suspected that someone wanted to use the poison to do something illegal.

Hence, I was investigating the case in a rush.

But, at that time,

Officer Liu used the incident of water pollution outside the city

to lure me away.

The villagers in Zhushui Village got poisoned from the drinking water.

Poisoned?

Do you think it has anything to do

with that poison?

Water in the village was indeed poisoned by someone.

But, It's not Udumbara.

It's the thunder duke vine that could cause severe symptoms seemingly

but it's not fatal.

Su Ci,

how can you prove that

Officer Liu has lured you away deliberately?

At eight o'clock on that day,

Officer Liu informed me that

someone poisoned the water outside the city.

But, the village chief reported to the government at ten o'clock.

So, Officer Liu,

how come you knew about the incident

an hour before?

Could it be the village chief remember the time wrongly?

Su Ci,

You cannot jump to the conclusion

based only on the words of the village chief.

Even if the village chief was right about the time,

it only proves that Office Liu

knew about the poison incident in Zhushui Village earlier.

What is the relation to the fireworks case?

Officer Liu,

can you show your right wrist?

What do you mean?

Your Highness,

those poisoned by Udumbara,

the lung nerve will be burnt in five days.

There'll be a red line at the right wrist.

I smelled sulphur

from Officer Liu a few days ago.

My Lord. Have you been feeling unwell lately?

When I just came in,

I smelled sulphur from you.

Are you on medication?

It's no big deal.

Perhaps, I've been too tired lately.

I've gotten some scabies. So I applied some medicine.

Perhaps, it's the smell of the medicine.

Take good care of yourself.

Don't worry.

I guess that smell of sulphur

could be from the fireworks powder

when he sneaked into the Production Bureau.

Eunuch Li.

Yes.

It's really him!

It's really him!

So it's really you.

Yes.

I was the culprit.

Why?

You have never thought

of surviving since the beginning, right?

Yes.

Then, why did you frame His Highness?

Don't you feel happy watching

these immoral and despicable people hurting each other?

Liu Xuan,

His Majesty stood your ground against the opinion of the masses

and promoted you to be the Lead Officer of Mingjing Office.

His Majesty has been treating you very well.

Why did you do this?

What a great grace.

How can

such a small kindness repay

hundreds of lives of my Bai Liang Clan?

What is your relationship with the Bai Liang Clan?

I'm Bai Jing.

A member of the Bai Liang Clan.

I was fostered by the Liu family in Cangzhou since I was a kid.

My name was changed to Liu Xuan.

You are a Bai Liang criminal?

I was sent to my adopted parents' home since I was a kid.

Therefore, I was able to escaped when my clan was being destroyed.

My father, mother,

grandfather, grandmother, brothers and sisters

died in your hands.

The Bai Liang Clan was plotting a rebellion

and killed the late emperor.

That was what the clan deserved.

Rebellion?

Everyone in the clan was sentenced to death

just because of the clothes that they contributed

and a letter from an unknown source.

The clan was destroyed.

That's hundreds of lives.

Did you give them a chance to explain?

There were firm evidences proving the Bai Liang Clan killed the late emperor.

How could you deny that?

At the very least,

if you think you are innocent,

you can resort to a legitimate way to review the old cases.

Yet, you chose to be unscrupulous.

Have you lost your mind?

You are the rulers.

And you can ignore

all the laws.

The existence of laws

are just designed for people like you,

to justify yourself

in such circumstance.

So you can prettify your seemingly noble status.

You're rebellious offending the authority.

How dare you quibble here?

All of you

with a high position

only know how to manipulate your power,

and disregard human lives.

And all of you,

useless officials,

are just holding sinecures.

In that case,

it would be better

for everyone to die!

Liu Xuan,

stay away.

-Let her go! -Go away!

Lead Officer,

I've got the evidence to reverse the verdict.

Why did you...

Yian,

beware of Prince Yun.

You knew...

Sister Su.

Lead Officer!

What are you talking about?

I'm the head of the family.

I don't need a secret stash.

You've just

recovered from the poisoning.

Why not take more rests?

Please don't do that.

If Su Ci is innocent

and he has to suffer such humiliation here,

how are

the Mingjing officers

going to serve Your Majesty in the future?

Mingjing Office is the place to investigate cases.

There's no gender discrimination here.

You're working too hard on investigation.

Just like me

when I first came to the capital.

Go and investigate your case.

Lead Officer...

I didn't expect that

we could see such plot.

The only two remnants from the Bai Liang Clan

were killing each other here.

Su Ci,

you're the only one left in the Bai Liang Clan now.

What is your feeling?

You mean

Su Ci is the remnant of the Bai Liang Clan too?

Yes.

Detective Su is from the Bai Liang Clan too. What...

Your Highness,

Su Ci disguised as a man in the Mingjing Office.

I've suspected that she had other motive.

Therefore, I checked the lineage of Bai Liang Clan.

I found that everyone from the Bai Liang Clan died,

except the daughter of the clan leader who was missing.

She's called Bai Yian,

which is Su Ci.

Yet Prince Qi hid her in his mansion

and helped her to be an official in the imperial court.

They made a detailed plan, acting step by step,

designed the fireworks rebellion case today.

They are the culprits of this heinous crime!

Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Please behead the two as soon as possible.

Your Majesty, Your Highness,

I beg you to let me defend for myself.

Approved.

Bring the witnesses.

Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Who are these three people?

Your Highness,

they three

are the craftsmen, the most important witnesses in this case.

Those who had died in the prison

were only fake craftsmen.

I've handed the real ones

to Your Majesty earlier.

Commander Fu did the arrangement.

Yes, mother.

Your Majesty,

an important case like this is not a play.

Why didn't you tell me earlier?

Your Highness, please don't be angry.

If I don't do this,

how can I seduce the real mastermind?

Before the banquet,

I got to know that

there was a batch of poisonous powder missing in the capital.

I was afraid that someone meant to cause trouble during the banquet.

Therefore, I checked

everything needed during the fireworks show.

I found nothing.

Until right before the banquet,

I found out there were poisonous powder in the fireworks.

It is a serious incident.

Hence, I informed Your Majesty immediately,

and made a plan to attract the real mastermind.

How dare they've planned to do this!

Luckily we found it out now.

Now, we know nothing of their next plan.

How about we take the chance...

Brother destroyed

the fireworks light-up setting secretly,

and placed guards where the fireworks were set off.

Is it true?

Yes.

I've sent Liu Yu and others to protect His Majesty in secret.

When they were about to set off the Auspicious,

we'd be able to

find the real mastermind.

Detective Su, it's here!

-Stop it! -Detective Su?

How come she's here?

Do we need to stop them?

Stay still first.

Wait a bit.

Stop it!

Go!

Yes.

Catch them all!

You knew it all.

You just left the city then,

and I didn't have chance to inform you yet.

Good that we're all OK.

In that case,

why do you need to

replace the real craftsmen with the fake?

Although Liu Xuan was the culprit of this case,

to implement such a complicated plan

was beyond his capability.

Behind Liu Xuan,

someone has been helping him

to complete the plan.

And this person

is Prince Yun.

Prince Qi,

you've failed in your rebellion,

and now you want to frame me?

You can't say that without evidence.

Don't be nervous, uncle.

I'll submit the evidence now.

After the incident was exposed,

Prince Yun couldn't wait

to send someone to poison the fake craftsmen,

asking them to commit suicide.

So, we turned their trick into ours.

Faked the death so that they could escape.

Bring her in.

Zhang, please identify

who sent you the poisonous pills in the jail?

It's her,

the maid of Prince Yun.

Your Majesty, Your Highness,

Prince Qi kidnapped my maid,

and I don't know where they found

three unidentified craftsmen.

They're framing me.

Your Highness, please believe me.

Prince Yun,

you killed Lei Zheng publicly back then

to protect yourself.

You want to play the same trick again?

You're a Bai Liang criminal,

you have no right to speak in the main hall.

Prince Yun...

Su Ci, go on.

Your Majesty, Your Highness,

my actual name is Bai Yian.

I'm from the Bai Liang Clan.

I was rescued by someone to survive.

I've hidden my real name until today.

I made a vow since I was a kid

that I would investigate the Bai Liang Clan case

and the truth about the death of the late emperor.

Back then,

after the Bai Liang brocades were stitched into clothes,

during the washing process in the Laundry Bureau,

Prince Yun

sent his suicide squad

to put poison into the washing water.

You criminal, you're talking nonsense!

I knew that you'd never admit without evidence.

Rushuang.

Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Eunuch Li.

This is

the confession letter from

the suicide squad sent by Prince Yun.

This letter has recorded

the process of Prince Yun putting poison in the washing water.

Confession letter from the suicide squad

So, who instructed you to kill

kill the late emperor?

It was Prince Yun.

He instructed me

to poison the laundry water.

You must have thought that your suicide squad was dead.

But you can never take everything into account.

She was lucky enough to escape

and lived secretly for seven years

just to prove your crime back then.

Nonsense!

You're not qualified to stay in the Mingjing Office.

With mere a confession letter,

do you think you can frame me and accuse me of killing the late emperor?

You denied that your maid poisoned the witnesses.

You also said that the confession letter written by your suicide squad

was fake.

Speaking about fake,

the conspiracy letter that accused

we Bai Liang Clan was fake!

The handwriting was so familiar.

It's written by Lei Zheng.

What's on the letter?

Lei Zheng?

This is the treason letter

of Bai Liang Clan with Fan Yan Na.

Your Majesty, Your Highness.

After the late emperor passed away,

Prince Yun asked Lei Zheng to fake a conspiracy letter

and framed the Bai Liang Clan chief.

Then, Lei Zheng requested the previous Minister of War, Liang Feng

to find a student who was good at imitating handwriting.

Finally, they found Li Mu in Qifu Town.

Your Majesty, Your Highness.

This is the proof left by Li Mu.

You're a devil from Bai Liang Clan, you're still trying to frame me!

Prince Yun, shut up!

Fake conspiracy letter

Su Ci,

I would like you

to tell me all the truth about this incident.

Yes, Your Highness.

Prince Yun put the poison onto the Bai Liang Brocade back then.

The poison that he put was a kind of chronic poison.

Therefore, it wouldn't put the late emperor to death immediately.

The poison only caused the body to be weak.

No wonder before the late emperor passed away,

he's growing weaker and weaker.

But Prince Yun

knew Your Highness was

searching a tonic for the late emperor.

Therefore, he mixed the catalyst

of this poison into the tonic

and offered to Your Highness.

After the late emperor ate the tonic,

the poison in his body became more effective

and

he died immediately.

It turns out to be...

It turns out to be I...

It turns out to be I was the one who caused the death of the late emperor.

Mother.

Maids. Send her to rest.

Yes.

Late emperor...

Late emperor...

Late emperor...

That's so treacherous.

Your Majesty,

everything that Su Ci said just now

was just to frame me.

Prince Qi and Su Ci intended to conspire against you.

I destroyed their plan.

Therefore, they frame me.

Your Majesty, I'm telling the truth.

You are going to die soon and yet you still dare to quibble here!

After the late emperor passed away,

you formed alliance with the enemies

and started wars.

You commanded the former Minister of War, Liang Feng

to break the bridges

during the war between our army and Fan Yan Na,

so that we couldn't get support on time.

This is the blood letter

left by General Zhang Yuhua before he passed away.

While he and a few thousands of soldiers from Liang Dynasty were fighting the enemy,

you trapped them in Honggu until they died.

So it is.

They'd never spare you

even if they died.

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

Treason is a serious offense,

if you don't have solid evidence,

you'll have to bear the responsibility of framing the officials.

Solid evidence?

In a while,

he will show the evidence

to everyone.

What happened?

What happened?

Is it the sound of shouting and killing?

West Gate

What happened?

Let me tell all of you.

My army has surrounded the palace.

You're deceiving the emperor and being rebellious.

He's treacherous!

Even though you've found out the truth now,

there's nothing you can do.

Prince Yun,

How dare you rebel!

Nephew,

I just want to get back my own thing.

Uncle,

aren't you afraid that your name will be blackened forever?

Blackened?

Who will blacken my name?

After tonight,

It's me

who decide the history.

Prince Yun, how dare you!

Yes.

This...

This...

This...

Everyone, listen!

You still have chance

to surrender now.

You have been planning

for this conspiracy plan for some time.

You're right.

The reason I killed the late emperor seven years ago

was to become the emperor.

But, the last emperor was well prepared.

He passed the tiger tally to Xiao Yanzhi.

Otherwise,

how could all of you survive until today.

Over the years, you're wary of Prince Qi,

you weakened his military power,

and you pushed down the old officials on purpose.

You made me surrender to you

and listen to your command.

Xiao Yanzhi should have died

at the Honggu battlefield.

But you came back alive.

Yes.

Because today,

I will avenge for the dead,

those in the Honggu Battle,

those innocent

Bai Liang Clan members,,

and others who died

because of your conspiracy.

I'll fight for their justice.

Those lives were nothing

during my journey to success.

You're lucky

to live until today.

Shut up!

You shut up!

Nephew,

you're such a young emperor.

You should just be a puppet.

Then, I don't have to waste so many efforts to go against you.

You've been more and more disobedient in these two years.

That's why you used the disaster relief fund

to buy your private horses and feed your soldiers.

Because you don't deserve to be at the position.

I

am the future of Liang Dynasty.

This...

Ming, you're coming.

Xie Beiming, how come you...
