Episode 17

Who is it? Come in.

Excuse me.

I’m Lu Jin’s mother.

Be seated.

No, thanks.

Here are some nourishments for you.

It’s so kind of you

Shengnan said you’re very busy.

You’re welcome. You’re an elder.

I’m here to tell you

if you

need any help in the future,

please talk to me.

Lu Jin

is very busy.

All the group’s business is on his shoulders.

Please don’t bother him

if not necessary.

This is my assistant’s card.

You can call this number

if anything.

I’ll take my leave.

Shengnan.

I don’t care how you do it.

Take Lu Zheng to me

in half an hour.

Looks like

you’ve lost a lot of weight lately.

You look after Grandpa by yourself.

It’s hard for you.

Thanks for your care, madam.

It’s what I’m supposed to do.

Do you know

why I don’t agree

Lu Jin and you to be together?

Because I’m ordinary.

I’m poor.

I have no money.

Do you mean pedigree?

You’re wrong.

Family background

is never a concern to me.

To tell you the truth,

back then,

I also had nothing.

I took Lu Jin abroad when he’s little

and started the business all alone.

From scratch, I worked hard for 30 years

to get where we are today.

I don’t agree you’re with him

because you will be

his weakness.

Because

you’ll distract him

and make him lose

the sense of judgment on his work.

Zhenghong is a huge group.

It won’t suffer any loss because of me.

I, Zheng Hong,

never overestimate any opponent.

Neither will I underestimate

any potential risk.

Miss Gu.

There’s no doubt

you’re

very charming.

Lu Jin likes you,

cares about your feelings,

and also gets affected by you.

I truly love Lu Jin.

I do this for him as well.

Don’t you want him to be happy?

Happy?

Miss Gu.

Do you think

he’ll be happy

by giving up his huge business

to be with you?

The story of the Warfare of Chu and Han,

I think

you must know it.

When I was young

and first heard the story,

I couldn’t understand

why Xiang Yu, an unrivaled hero,

lost to

Liu Bang, a nobody.

As I grew up and got experienced,

I get to understand.

Because the woman behind Liu Bang

was Lyu Zhi,

while behind Xiang Yu

was Yu Ji.

Being captivated by a beauty,

a man is doomed to fail.

Even the King of West Chu was like that.

Not to mention

an ordinary businessman.

Miss Gu.

Do you think I’m right?

Lu Jin is dealing with

something urgent in Vancouver.

I believe,

given the way he cares about you,

if you tell him

Grandpa is hospitalized,

he’ll surely stop working

and come back overnight to accompany you.

Now I’m gonna call Lu Jin for something.

If you need to talk with him,

say it now on the phone.

Hello.

Lu Jin.

Mom.

How is the work going on?

It’s going well.

I’m with Gu Shengnan.

Let her talk to you.

Shengnan.

Shengnan. Is that you?

Shengnan.

Shengnan.

Sorry. I was too busy to answer your message.

Shengnan.

Are you there?

Shengnan.

Mom.

Hello, Lu Jin.

Shengnan.

What’s up?

I ran into your mom this afternoon

when I came from the hotel.

We had tea together.

Everything is fine.

Don’t worry about me.

Madam. I’m gonna pay the bill.

Bye.

Mr. Lu.

Mrs. Lu told us to pick you up.

Inpatient

Sorry. Sorry.

Shengnan.

Shengnan.

Trumpet has told me.

I’m so tired.

I tried, but I can’t get so much money.

It’s too much.

I can’t get so much money.

It’s fine.

You have me.

Don’t worry about money.

I have money.

Rest assured.

You lend it to me. When I have money,

I’ll pay you back all of it.

It’s fine.

Let your grandpa have the surgery first.

OK?

Alright.

Don’t cry.

How can you see your grandpa like this?

Don’t cry.

Alright.

Go.

Mr. Lu.

You’re so busy.

Where did you come from?

Looks like

it’s Fast and Furious.

Since Mr. Lu has time for the meeting,

I’m sure he already

has a solution

to the company’s problem.

Right?

Please tell us about it.

It’s more like scolding me.

Gentlemen, you’re the elites

in the industry,

the seniors.

There’s no place for me to talk.

Go on. I’m listening.

OK.

The clock is ticking. We’ll get to the business.

The company...

The company is facing

a serious shortfall in funding.

We thought the overseas tourism project

could recover some funds

and relieve the situation.

It turns out

Zhenghong Group is...

Go on.

Keep talking.

Inpatient

Be careful.

Grandpa. Have lunch.

OK.

Be careful, Grandpa.

OK.

Watch the table.

I made you buckwheat noodles.

And eggs.

It’s light.

Try it.

Yours.

This is rice.

Steak.

It’s especially for me?

Yes.

Enjoy it.

The salad is for you.

Why?

Aren’t you on a diet?

Am I?

I’m fat. I’m fat.

I’m on a diet.

Am I fat?

No. No. No.

What do you mean?

Eat, Grandpa.

Here is the rice.

Eat.

Eat. Grandpa.

Hurry. Eat when it’s warm.

I’ve been eating ward food these days.

There is no taste in my mouth.

Buy me a bag of

Honey Mito.

No. That’s too sweet.

Just eat this.

You can’t eat that before surgery.

Hurry up.

I just want to eat.

I’ll just eat a bit. It doesn’t matter.

Ziqian. Go with her.

No.

Shengnan.

Buy it since Grandpa wants to eat it.

Let’s go.

Go, go, go.

Ziqian. Be careful on the road.

Eat that first or it’ll get cold.

OK. OK.

Eat.

OK.

Quan’an.

Call a car for me.

I’ll go to your office.

Uncle.

You’re sick. Don’t go out.

I’ll go to you if you need anything.

Cut it out.

I finally got Shengnan away.

Call me a car.

By the way,

ask Zhaodi to come along.

OK. Hello.

Is it over?

It’s over.

Mr. Ma. Mr. Peng.

Mom.

How was it? What have you talked about?

Did they make it hard on you?

Rest assured.

Did they propose to reelect the chairman?

No.

Everything in the group goes well.

These directors

didn’t make it hard on me.

They recognized me.

They didn’t dare to start the meeting without my approval.

Did they recognize you?

A car mechanic?

Look at you.

Why do you look down on car mechanics?

Mom. Sit.

Let me give you an example.

Look.

The whole Mingting Group

is like this four-wheel drive car,

dazzling

and fruitful in achievements.

It gets to where it is today

relying on the tires,

namely the employees,

and also parts and components, gears,

namely the board members.

What’s the most important part?

My dad.

Motor,

the heart of the car.

That’s it?

Well.

You are not part of it,

are you?

I am.

I’m the hand that puts the car

to the track.

What is it?

Market?

Exactly. The market.

Mom. You’re so smart. I’m proud of you.

Uh... Well.

Mom.

I had the meeting all day.

My mind is messy.

I’ll go take a nap.

And I’ll go to see my dad later.

Seems you’ve behaved well lately,

going to the hospital so often.

You finally know to please your father?

No. There are good dishes there.

What do you mean?

Make it clear.

Where are the dishes from?

Dishes?

Today,

I get you two here

for your advice.

Of these two lads,

which one is more suitable for Shengnan?

Grandpa. I’ll choose first.

In terms of their age,

Cheng Ziqian is younger.

Cheng Ziqian

wins on age.

Height...

Cheng Ziqian is higher as well.

Cheng Ziqian wins.

Uncle. In terms of appearance,

they’re both good.

But,

I prefer men like Lu Jin,

gentle, noble, wealthy,

and also a little ascetic.

More importantly,

he’s manly.

So, in terms of appearance,

Lu Jin wins.

Grandpa. I think Cheng Ziqian is more handsome.

Look. He’s kind and pretty.

I vote for Cheng Ziqian.

No need to compare their wealth.

Lu Jin overwhelms him.

Do you know how much money Lu Jin has?

Let me give you an analogy.

If

Cheng Ziqian’s wealth is a grain of rice,

then Lu Jin’s wealth is...

A bowl of rice?

No. No. A bag of rice.

Five kilograms?

Fifty kilograms.

So,

Lu Jin overwhelms him in wealth.

Funny.

Grandpa.

What good is money alone?

You were badly ill

yet he didn’t show up,

neither did he contribute money nor effort.

Right?

I used to want to

get a rich boyfriend.

Now think about it.

They can’t help at all when they’re needed.

It’s Shengnan

who bears it alone.

But Cheng Ziqian

is really good,

offering so much help.

He pays so much attention to Shengnan.

So, in terms of Shengnan’s feeling,

I vote for Cheng Ziqian.

Zhaodi is right.

I’ve been fond of Ziqian

since he’s little.

Their parents also

know each other.

In terms of family relationship,

I vote for Ziqian.

OK.

Ziqian wins.

Besides,

Shengnan and Lu Jin

have a big difference

in family background.

Plus, his mother is mean.

Their life would surely be hard.

Absolutely right, Grandpa.

Picking Cheng Ziqian is controllable and secure.

Picking Lu Jin

is uncontrollable in many ways.

Too risky.

So, in terms of risk,

Cheng Ziqian overwhelms.

Uncle.

It’s not like the old days.

Family background is no longer a problem.

The difference

in age and family background won’t be a problem.

The point is that

they love each other.

Shengnan loves Lu Jin.

From this only point, Lu Jin overwhelms him.

What are you doing?

What’s the use of love?

Leading a peaceful and happy life

is the most important.

Gu Shengnan loses her sense of love.

We should help her make a right decision.

Uncle.

A marriage without love won’t last long.

Shengnan should choose someone she loves.

I’ll pick Lu Jin.

No! No!

Let go!

Women should choose a man who loves her more.

Xu Zhaodi! Give it to me!

Let go!

Cheng Ziqian has so many wins. Lu Jin doesn’t have much.

No.

Xu Zhaodi!

Let me go. Give me one.

I won’t.

Xu Zhaodi!

Go to hell!

You always treat me like this!

I’ll just put one up.

Give it to me.

It’s you! It’s you!

Don’t hit me.

Xu Zhaodi!

What?

You always...

I won’t help you anymore.

Win Give it to me!

Stop it!

Give it to me!

That’s all we have.

You hit me again!

I’m hitting you!

I... Annoying.

You hit my ear.

Let’s have a talk.

Do you remember this street?

In 2011.

I was a secretary on the board at the time.

The group

wanted to expand the business from Europe to Canada.

Ms. Zheng was worried

you couldn’t get used to a new environment.

I was sent to assist you.

Time flies.

It’s been ten years.

Now the division in Canada

is reconstructing

and expanding this street.

You had

the same hairstyle on that day.

Mr. Lu.

This building’s structure looks good.

Why will it be built into an Asian Street?

Bringing Chinese culture,

Asian culture to the world

is Zhenghong Group’s goal.

I’ve repeated it many times.

Don’t ask me again.

Yes. Mr. Lu. Wait for me.

Wait.

You’re not walking the red carpet.

Why do you wear high-heeled shoes?

I won’t do this again.

I don’t need a spoiled lady here.

Go home if you feel aggrieved.

No. No. Not at all.

Will it do?

You must hate me at that time.

No.

The fact is that

you had the driver send me

a pair of sneakers at night.

Since then,

whenever I go out,

I’ll take a pair of sneakers with me.

Do you remember this store?

We dined here.

I remember

we sit at the center table.

It was a waitress who served us.

Why did you remember so clearly?

Because it was the first day

of your 26th birthday that night.

We worked

and didn’t eat until midnight.

We even

had a quarrel with the waitress that night.

We ordered prime snowflake beef.

Are you sure this is prime snowflake beef?

Please ask your chef to come here.

Excuse me. The chef is off duty.

We really can’t make what you say.

It’s OK.

If there’s nothing to do,

I’ll leave.

Thank you.

It’s OK.

I’ll go abroad

on my next annual leave.

Seems you haven’t had a leave for long.

I’ll give you a long annual leave.

Then you went to Korea.

Not only Korea,

I also went to Japan,

France, and got into Le Cordon Bleu.

Chefs like me studied there

from zero.

And I

have no talent in cooking.

It took me a long time to graduate.

You try to do everything

to the best.

But my purpose was

simple actually.

I just hoped

you could eat well

after you work overtime every day.

It occurred to me that

I haven’t thanked you for so many years.

But I think I should

say thanks.

Whether it’s your attitude at work,

or the way you care for me in life,

I should thank you.

Sincerely

thank you.

I have a request.

Say it.

Buy me a drink.

Inpatient

Ziqian.

You’ve helped us a lot lately.

I know you’re busy.

the doctor who did surgery for me

was invited by you.

The fee

was paid by you.

Rest assured.

After I check out,

I’ll ask Shengnan to pay you back.

Grandpa. You’re welcome.

My parents were busy when I was young.

I always had meals at your home.

You watched me grow up.

Now you’re sick.

I’m supposed to look after you.

Time flies.

You’re in your thirties.

Do you have a girlfriend?

I just returned home.

Not yet.

This time

I got the heartbreak suddenly

and got hospitalized.

It made me realize that,

given my health,

maybe I can’t see that day.

Grandpa.

I don’t desire much.

I just hope Shengnan can

have a man to rely on.

Grandpa.

Even if you don’t say that...

You know

what I mean.

Actually,

I’m already contented

to accompany Shengnan like this.

After all, love cannot be forced.

She already has someone in her heart.

Not like that.

Shengnan’s parents fell in love at the first sight.

People all think

they’re a perfect match.

Unexpectedly,

their relationship got bad

before long.

In terms of a relationship,

falling in love at first sight is the most unreliable.

What matters most

is a long-lasting relationship.

Ziqian.

Do you

understand me?

Gu Shengnan is quite adorable.

Being with her,

you must be very happy.

There are surprises indeed.

It’s good to be young,

with all kinds of possibilities.

If I could take a time machine

I’d be with you in another way.

You’re good now.

No change is needed.

Right.

I’m the vice president of Zhenghong,

also the chairman of Global Boutique Alliance.

These are all good.

But you don’t like them.

Let’s change the topic.

Let me finish my words.

Being with you for 10 years,
