no, yes, I can.

Every time we perform a job,

it lets me know in my brain what I can do and what I can't do.

I feel like I can build anything.

On this build right now, there's risk.

Risk is when things could go bad and you're flirting with danger,

It's something that I've never done before...

I know I'm fraser hood, and I've been building cars

since I was just a little kid tinkering,

and this is my passion.

I like this. - Something different.

It's got 350 in it now.

Something different, right? What I like about chad's cars

is that they're definitely head turners.

There's nothing that ever comes

out of his shop that looks the same.

You know, been into the cars for a while and stuff, huh?

Thinking about doing something a little different.

-that's my first dirt bike. -Is it?

1978, and I almost fit on it now.

This bike's always been a head turner.

It was an official escort vehicle

to the pope in '84.

Oh, cool.

Should be in a glass thing, shouldn't it?

This is the one that I've had down to the wharf rat rally

wharf rat rally was introduced to me

a couple of years after I started riding.

Now it's the biggest local motorcycle rally that we have.

I didn't realize you were into this so heavily.

Yeah, you know what? You can put a lot more bikes in a garage

than you can put cars. That's true.

I'm learning that.

So that's kind of where this leads me,

is I want you to build me a bike.

A bike?! I never built a bike before,

fraser hood -- you crazy?

Well, I think, uh, I think you have the talent to do it.

I don't want to think, to be honest with you.

Wow, so what kind of bike you're thinking like, I mean?

This year I want a real head turner

that is different - than anyone's ever seen before.

Down there at the rally,

and I know you make head-turners.

How soon is wharf rat?

It's -- we got 16 days.

16 days, wow, that's a that's quite a spot you put me on.

I mean, I don't know, I want to do work for you,

but I'm kind of fuffled right now, because I just don't know

where I go with it, because I've never thought about it,

you know what I'm saying -- but I like the idea of

showing something at the wharf rat rally.

There's a lot of bikes. There is.

I see opportunity.

Know what I mean? Like, that's cool.

What's your budget?

Would ten do it?

You'd be pretty damn close.

Close? - Twelve would be tops for me.

that would probably cover it, would it not?

I mean, we'd be pretty close.

It's a short timeline and it's not a whole lot of money.

When you can't see where you're going,

and try to get your vision and then carry on.

dad sent me on a little adventure today

to find a motorcycle that we can go build

for the wharf rat rally.

As a kid in the summertime when I got out of school,

I looked forward to coming down to see dad.

Those visits, dad always made sure I had a motorcycle,

something cool to tinker with.

And one of the first bikes he bought me

was a yamaha 80 street and trail bike.

He always made sure I had fun with something.

It is a big deal because you try to prove to dad,

you know, that I've brought back a good start.

How you doing, colton? Good man. How are you?

Looks like you got - more junk here than last time.

Oh, yeah. I'm always collecting more and more every time.

How you doing, brother?

Good hands; are all greasy, but that's all right.

My name's lindsay and I've got a collection of old stuff.

Right? Old junk, I call it.

I guess I've been referred to as retro

and it's just stuff you put together

and make it run and have some fun with it.

And when you get tired of it, you let someone else have it.

I need a bike, my man. Need a bike.

I need a bike. - We're looking to do something

for the wharf rat rally.

Okay, yeah, yeah, September.

Yeah, I would imagine something solid.

But you want something that you don't make

your own and change around.

Yeah. - Customize a bit.

I just want to find something you know,

it doesn't have to be completely put together.

I just need to know that I have a good foundation and you know,

somebody had some care for this bike at one time.

And I want to bring something back to somebody

beat and tore all the hell.

There's these two old hondas here.

You might end up spending a lot of time

just getting them running.

Or if you started chopping them all up and trying to get ready

for the wharf rat rally.

What would these be worth to you?

Well, I'd like to get a thousand bucks

out of the two of them, right?

Together? When's the last time they did run?

It's probably been two years now

since last time - I had them running right.

But, you know, that's going to be a lot of work.

I just picked up -- it might be something

a little bit more up your alley,

something that's closer to running.

I got this this honda. There's the wheel for it.

I just drug this home and I had big plans for this.

I mean, in some ways they're all projects.

They all need something done to them.

And I probably picked up more projects and I'll ever get to.

So I let some go.

It's cool because - it's a v twin engine, right?

It's got the look.

You know, it doesn't look like anything's corroded

or nothing stripped off.

Everything's there.

Don't look - like much from the ground,

but I feel like it is.

I don't know, I'd be willing to let it go for a thousand bucks

I took somebody's word on that this bike would start and run

and try to get us ahead and save alex some time.

So I'm just hoping that, that word's there,

I hope this starts.

I mean, it's all there.

This is hiltz auto's first bike build ever.

It's kind of the unknown,

kind of makes me nervous a little bit.

Usually when you take on a customer,

you'll know sort of what you're going to build for them,

you know, right off the get off --

with the bike, I'm drawing a blank.

A lot I got to figure out, actually,

a lot I got to figure out.

As I get looking at it, it just makes me wonder

and think,

I don't want to sink, so I got to think.

Nervous as a grasshopper in a chicken house.

How do you think I feel? It's 15 days to build a bike!

Come on, man, get with it.

I might be able to use a car to build a bike!

That'd be cool.

Woman: I don't have all the confidence that I normally

do just because it's something we've never done.

Chad: Deadline's tomorrow. I feel just like the motorcycle

welded and beat and crashed and smashed.

[ engine sputtering ] - oh, my.

Fraser wants me to build a bike, you know, I'm a car guy,

I can't stop thinking about cars, you know?

When you look at certain cars,

you get different feelings.

There's an old farmer named archie that's got some cars.

I'm going to check him out.

I haven't seen the dream yet, you know what I mean?

The dream motorcycle has not fell from the air,

so I have not seen it yet.

I'm just waiting for it to fall.

archie, what's going on?

I'm going to go to archie's with an open mind

and thinking that we're going to build a dream bike.

I picked up the paper, I said, well, I'll give him the paper

before somebody else.

I picked it up anyways.

Probably make a good paper boy!

I never thought of that,

that I probably would have.

Got him a side job. Anyway...

You still got the old truck? Yeah.

Okay, I'm just looking around, archie, don't mind.

-You just help yourself. -Okay.

Just try to envision shapes that I want for this motorcycle

and see what I can get.

You do not know until you see, you know,

sometimes you try to envision

in your head what shape, you know, what can I use,

what can I use, what can I use,

but that doesn't happen all the time till you're there,

you know, and then when you're there,

sometimes you can visualize things.

Archie: I have a lot of stuff, don't I?

Chad: Well, I mean, I got to take stock,

I don't come here!

A '36 ford is one of my favorite cars of all time.

That thing's cooler than dang it, man.

Listen, you don't find many '36 fords around.

All the pieces I think are pretty well here for it,

as far as I know. - I love it.

I might be able to use a car to build a bike --

What is a price that would make you happy to sell us?

I want to make it art deco. I see it now.

I'm going to take a '36 ford front fender

and then we're going to add on the back fender,

very sexy fenders.

Oh, yeah, gonna put a fender skirt on there.

And where do you see fender skirts on motorbikes, you know?

I want to cover the whole bike

and I would do it like the train does.

How does that train work

when you can't see any engine in it,

you can't see the wheels on it?

Also, I'm going to take

and make a headlight

that comes off the front.

Give it the art deco look, it's going to look sick.

We have -- we have a new build.

I'm hot! I'm hot and bothered.

I'm hot and bothered by the situation,

we get a chance to build a motorbike for wharf rat rally.

-Crazy. -Well, that's going to be

the first motorbike that we've ever done.

There's going to be over 100,000 people there,

I've been there before and it's packed.

There's more motorcycles there than cod liver's got oil pills.

But you know what? They all look the same.

We're not the same.

Fraser hood has commissioned us,

he's going to give us half a budget for 15 days.

He wants something no one's ever seen before.

Slicks move fast and I have a great idea.

This is going to knock them over.

Colton found us a great motor bike to start with.

I'm thinking about taking the '36 ford fenders

we got from archie and somehow building a body on this thing.

I want to build a body over top of the bike.

This motor bike is going to look like a '36 ford...

Hit a motorbike.

I've been thinking sort of train style, art deco style.

I want to make it sleek. I want to make it fast.

I want to make it smooth. I want to make it low.

We're going to make fender skirts front and back,

both sides -- so there's going to be

four fender skirts on this thing.

I can do that. That's a lot of fender skirts.

It's hard to explain his imagination and creativity.

This is going to be a crazy, crazy-looking, wild thing.

I'm going to start with fabbing, the body.

Then you guys can clean the bike up and start working.

We should all keep in mind that we have to move

on the fly and move very fast.

We're down a man right now.

This will be another build without aaron.

Aaron's dealing with a medical situation.

So that's why he's not back to work.

We just have to keep chugging along.

As we're doing stuff,

think of the fastest way and the quickest tool.

I'm hoping, alex, that you know more about motorcycles

than I do.

I've built a few.

Well, there you go. I'm happy about that.

Alex is our safety net with this build.

I mean, he has a little bit of experience building bikes.

So we're definitely going to,

you know, lean on him for his knowledge.

It's going to be a big statement for hiltz auto.

Yeah, for sure. For sure.

If we can build a motor bike, we can build a dump truck,

we can build a cadillac, we can build your dreams.

That's what we're trying to tell everybody.

If we can build that bike in 15 days,

how strong will we get?

That coffee pot better be on.

Everybody's going to be clicking their heels

and going the same way.

Right? We're going to take that thing down there.

We're going to knock some socks off.

I mean, we've got 15 days, $12,000,

a man down and a motorcycle build that

we've never done before -- I don't know what to expect.

This is the first build where I don't have all the confidence

that I normally do just because it's something we've never done.

All right, let's do it.

I got to pick her clean, boys, pick her clean.

The shape of these fenders are turning me on

and I think I'm going to turn them into a bike.

You wanna help me? Can.

Look at that tin -- ooh, '36 ford stuff,

go easy. Go easy. Nice hood isn't it?

That kind of surprises me that he's taken his '36 ford parts.

-Don't spend anything. -I would never.

Everybody knows '36 ford stuff, people want it.

What's going to happen is back fender's got to come off.

'36 ford front fender is very appealing

because it's got so many different lines.

It's one of my favorite cars, just the way the rolling fenders

and the rolling back fender and the taillights

and just all the body lines.

But to fit that on top of that, that's another story.

I say I'd love to put them fenders

down on top of a motorbike,

but actually to do it's going to be a different thing.

I have to figure out and make a plan

on how I'm going to make it work

I got to go get the other one,

because I'll have to take a look.

Things are [bleep] rolling now, baby.

As I look at this, I'm hoping that I can take that spine,

cut that spine right down to the middle on that one,

cut the middle of the spine on the other fender,

bring it in as tight as possible

and then add my centerpiece.

I might take a trailer fender and go up through the middle.

You know how the trailer fender's got the nice roll,

and it's got the rolled edge on both sides?

So I'm going to go get something right now

just for [bleep] giggles.

It's kind of overwhelming just because

we haven't done a bike build yet.

So, you know, we're trying to keep it simple

and to what we know how to do, which is car parts.

But at the same time, we have to reengineer everything.

So we're not just building a bike, we're building

and engineering something that...

I think that the trailer fenders I have

can go in between that.

Okay. - You know what I mean?

And that'll connect them two together.

They've got that edge that's rolled over

on them trailer fenders, and I use that a lot

when I need that shape.

When the shape is there that you need,

you use it.

Here goes nothing. Okay, man.

for something that no one's ever seen before.

I'm going to give it to him.

So this is what I've got

got a nice little piece of metal I work with.

Get all the shape.

We're going to build a covered motorcycle

just because you don't usually see that.

You see a bike, you see the fender, you see the tank,

you see it the -- you see everything.

I wanted it like a cloud -- you could ride it,

and it's smooth and dreamy.

That there... Weld on that there.

That looks good, weld it on there,

well, they're just a cheap fender, like for trailers,

you know, you screw up your trailer fenders,

you put these new fenders on.

Well, we'll just cut them up and section 'em

and use them the way we want to use them, you know?

So if I need that shape, that's shape of metal I'm going to buy.

If I need a different shape, I'll look around.

Give me a coat hanger, I'll build your car.

Come on over by.

Put that on there.

Now just a minute, as we come down,

I don't want to get that stuck in the middle of that, right?

I want to push that in there like so.

Ooh! I'm liking that.

All right. That looks good, buddy.

That looks good. Ooh! I'm loving it.

working it like a piece of art I'm just plunking together

and welding it and tacking it and all that stuff.

Nope. Before I build out the back,

I'm going to have to see how the stance feels on.

You know what I'm saying? I have to feel how it feels.

So I'm going through here and I can see

that the end of my tape measure goes right about there.

And we're about 27.

27 wide.

That's that's I'd have --

[ flatulence ]

that's the stance.

Wow. That's the stance that I'd have to have --

I just don't want to overdo it, you know what I mean?

I started turning the tape measure at and started

doing this and started doing that, second guessing myself.

I'll never get it done.

This is something that's new and fresh.

So I'm going to go at it new and fresh.

I'm just going to go with it and build it and it'll come.

There's 27 wide.

I don't even know where I'm going yet,

I'm building it such on the fly, you know, as I'm building,

I don't even know what I'm doing.

So as I do, I learn what to do and what not to do.

Oh, wow.

Huh? What do you think of that bad boy?

I'm liking it. It's all right.

So as I'm looking at it, it's rusty here,

so this little motorcycle is telling me to cut that off.

So I'm going to come up here and take a finger and scribe

that all the way along there, same distance,

all the way around, try to keep the same distance.

Cut that off, then we'll stick a piece of ramrod on,

weld the ramrod on that.

And then we'll make another piece of ram rod

for the fender skirt.

Fender skirts I guess maybe are for elegance,

but generally all fender skirts are removable

to access the we'll need be.

Just gonna do the plasma cutter,

cut that out and be done with it.

fender's talking to me.

You don't know what the bike is going to look like

until you actually do it, right?

But it has to be done in a quick manner.

So that is our new wheel opening.

Now that I have the sill built,

I'm going to start building the fender skirt.

Nothing like playing with your wire.

I got a piece of ramrod for the fender,

and I got a piece of ramrod for the fender skirt,

as I got this ram rod here,

I tack that on to mimic my wheel well.

I'm going to cut this off right here

and I'm going to pull the head to where I want it.

Then I'm going to take a piece of ramrod

and run it from there to there.

Then we'll kind of pattern out a piece of paper...

Then we'll probably just roll the metal through the roller.

Oh, I love it the way it's going.

And then we'll come in here and tack that on

to the rod that I have.

But it's going to fit.

I got myself a fender skirt.

Piece of piss. Nice, eh?

Real good.

I'm liking it.

Look, see how it -- feel that?

Beautiful, like it's not.

Yeah, and there's no --

nice and round, there's no...

Feel that -- isn't that beautiful?

I'm really glad that we're doing this build together.

Colton lives four hours away

and I would get him on summers.

I would just make things for him

because he was never around all the time.

Yeah, I would just try to be the best person I could be

for two weeks.

But I think he taught me more in the two weeks

than I taught him, you know?

Because I was not a grown up, I was a kid.

That fender skirt's going on there perfect,

hasn't got it warped up one bit.

Beautiful, good job.

You are getting better all the time, all the time.

We'll father-son team this thing.

Going to come straight up and down,

so it's going to go on the fender skirt

and I gotta weld - the washer on the other part.

It's time to make these fenders skirts removable.

I'm doing the exact same thing as I would do to a car

as I'm doing this motorcycle, you know, I'm going to pin them,

I'm going to bolt them. The removable, detachable.

You can ride it with or without.

You go it? - Yeah.

That's going to weld to the bike.

This one's gonna weld to the fender skirt.

When I put the fender skirt on, that little pin

will go in that washer and hold it on.

Down here I'll run a bolt.

I'll bolt it there and I'll bolt it there.

So I'll just take out the two bolts,

out-pin it, comes off.

Just hold it like that, bud. That's good.

Can you get your bar out?

And that's how we bolt it.

There's our bolt, we reach up underneath there

and take the bolt out.

Simplest thing, quickest thing to do the job to get it done.

I'm gonna flip this over, we're ready rock and roll, man.

Muddin' season's on,

just like goin' clammin'.

I'm at austin pineo's, he's got a little business

just up the road from me, it's called get-r-dumpt!

We threw away the gas tank.

As I get building this, we're going to need a gas tank.

So I'm going to find something to take it's place.

What's you going, aus? Haven't seen you in a while.

What's going on?

I've known chad, since he was that high.

So I'm building a motorcycle

and I need a small tank.

I've known austin all my life,

so if I need something every once in a while,

I'll ask austin,

because you never know what he has.

People are throwing away stuff all the time.

I got some propane tanks out back.

Do you? - Do you mind if I take a look

those small ones there are no good.

You mind if I take a look? Yeah, go ahead.

I'm looking for something to turn into a gas tank

on this motorcycle.

15 days is not much.

Whatever I find, we'll make it work.

Propane tanks are just a little bit too big.

I mean, fire extinguisher -- gas tank,

fire extinguisher, gas tank!

I picked a fire extinguisher,

I'm going to give it to alex.

I'm trying to fabricate the body,

he's going to fabricate the gas tank

and get the bad boy running,

oh, we need a fitting in the bottom of this thing.

The fuel line top goes in.

I'd say that was a pretty good hole!

chad has these crazy ideas.

Sometimes it takes a lot of thought and trial and error.

Try to get these things to work sometimes.

Tank fits awesome.

Now, start finishing it up.

going to have to pressure test it to make sure it doesn't leak.

I built the regulator so I can check for leaks in the tank.

I have faith. -That's something now,

I was wondering, - how are you going to do that?

You gonna put water in it?

No, air.

Look at that now, would you?

Hickory dickory dock, who knew?

Air will come out the clock.

[ air hissing ]

see, it's coming around the fitting

because I didn't seal it.

[ air hissing ]

no leaks.

Just gonna weld a couple of bolts on on the body

and bolt it on this.

I just finished welding the brackets on

to mount the fuel tank.

Now I got to do the filler spout.

Something to put fuel in.

there you go, one fuel tank.

That's sick right there.

That's cool [bleep].

Cooking with gas today, let's rock and roll!

In the other building out there,

there's some headlights out there -- when you first go in,

there's one little small one there, it's on a pivot,

then there's two there,

that one that's got the light on the top.

And then I want two black ones about that long

they have no lenses, no nothing on them that are hanging up.

Are they all hanging up? - Yep.

They're hanging up in that garage.

If we had more time,

I might just make the headlight from scratch.

But as it goes, and as time goes,

we have to do what we have to do to get it done.

Colton: I'm looking for headlights here for dad

that he wants to try on the bike.

We've built the bike, we're here, we're on time,

and see if we have done our job.

So the fenders on the outside, they're off of --

'36 ford. - '36.

And then we put a trailer fender and put a trailer fender

up through the middle of the spine of the bike

and then added the '36 ford on the outside of the bike.

My mind's blown. Unreal.

I'm so excited to ride this down main street

and see what everyone thinks.

I'm excited to watch it.
