and I almost fit on it now.

This bike's always been
a head turner.

It was an official
escort vehicle

to the pope in '84.

This is the one that I've had
down to the wharf rat rally

wharf rat rally
was introduced to me

a couple of years
after I started riding.

Now it's the biggest local
motorcycle rally that we have.

I didn't realize you were
into this so heavily.

Yeah, you know what? You can put
a lot more bikes in a garage

than you can put cars.
That's true.

I'm learning that.

So that's kind of where
this leads me,

is I want you to build me
a bike.

A bike?!
I never built a bike before,

you have the talent to do it.

I don't want to think,

I want a real head turner

that is different
- than anyone's ever seen before.

I want to do work for you,

but I'm kind of fuffled right
now, because I just don't know

where I go with it, because I've
never thought about it,

on a little adventure today

to find a motorcycle
that we can go build

for the wharf rat rally.

As a kid in the summertime
when I got out of school,

I looked forward to coming down
to see dad.

Those visits, dad always made
sure I had a motorcycle,

something cool to tinker with.

And one of the first bikes
he bought me

was a yamaha 80 street
and trail bike.

He always made sure
I had fun with something.

It is a big deal
because you try to prove to dad,

you know, that I've brought back
a good start.

and make it run

It's kind of the unknown,

kind of
makes me nervous a little bit.

Usually when you take
on a customer,

you'll know sort of what
you're going to build for them,

you know, right off
the get off --

with the bike,
I'm drawing a blank.

A lot I got to figure out,
actually,

a lot I got to figure out.

As I get looking at it,
it just makes me wonder

and think,

I don't want to sink,
so I got to think.

Nervous as a grasshopper
in a chicken house.

How do you think I feel?
It's 15 days to build a bike!

I want to cover the whole bike

and I would do it

when you can't see
any engine in it,

you can't see the wheels on it?

and make a headlight

that comes off the front.

We're not the same.

Fraser hood has commissioned us,

he's going to give us
half a budget for 15 days.

He wants something no one's
ever seen before.

Slicks move fast
and I have a great idea.

This is going
to knock them over.

Colton found us a great motor
bike to start with.

I'm thinking about taking
the '36 ford fenders

we got from archie and somehow
building a body on this thing.

I want to build a body
over top of the bike.

This motor bike is going to look
like a '36 ford...

Hit a motorbike.

I've been thinking sort of train
style, art deco style.

I want to make it sleek.
I want to make it fast.

I want to make it smooth.
I want to make it low.

We're going to make
fender skirts front and back,

both sides --
so there's going to be

four fender skirts
on this thing.

I can do that.
That's a lot of fender skirts.

It's hard to explain
his imagination and creativity.

This is going to be a crazy,
crazy-looking, wild thing.

I'm going to start with fabbing,
the body.

Then you guys can clean
the bike up and start working.

We should all keep in mind
that we have to move

on the fly and move very fast.

We're down a man right now.

This will be another build
without aaron.

Aaron's dealing
with a medical situation.

So that's why
he's not back to work.

We just have to keep
chugging along.

As we're doing stuff,

think of the fastest way
and the quickest tool.

I'm hoping, alex, that you know
more about motorcycles

than I do.

I've built a few.

of experience building bikes.

are turning me on

and I think I'm going
to turn them into a bike.

'36 ford front fender
is very appealing

because it's got
so many different lines.

It's one of my favorite cars,
just the way the rolling fenders

and the rolling back fender
and the taillights

and just all the body lines.

But to fit that on top of that,
that's another story.

I say I'd love to put
them fenders

down on top of a motorbike,

but actually to do it's going
to be a different thing.

I have to figure out
and make a plan

on how I'm going to make it work

I got to go
get the other one,

because
I'll have to take a look.

Things are [bleep]
rolling now, baby.

As I look at this, I'm hoping
that I can take that spine,

cut that spine right down
to the middle on that one,

cut the middle of the spine
on the other fender,

bring it in as tight as possible

and then add my centerpiece.

I might take a trailer fender
and go up through the middle.

You know how the trailer
fender's got the nice roll,

and it's got the rolled edge
on both sides?

So I'm going to go get something
right now

just for [bleep] giggles.

It's kind of overwhelming
just because

we haven't done
a bike build yet.

So, you know, we're trying
to keep it simple

and to what we know how to do,
which is car parts.

But at the same time, we have
to reengineer everything.

So we're not just building
a bike, we're building

and engineering
something that...

I think that the trailer
fenders I have

can go
in between that.

- You know what I mean?

And that'll connect them
two together.

They've got that edge
that's rolled over

on them trailer fenders,
and I use that a lot

when I need that shape.

When the shape is there
that you need,

you use it.

got a nice little piece of metal
I work with.

Get all the shape.

We're going to build
a covered motorcycle

you don't usually see that.

you see everything.

I wanted it like a cloud --
you could ride it,

and it's smooth and dreamy.

fender, like for trailers,

you know, you screw up
your trailer fenders,

you put these new fenders on.

Well, we'll just cut them up
and section 'em

and use them the way we want to
use them, you know?

So if I need that shape, that's
shape of metal I'm going to buy.

If I need a different shape,
I'll look around.

Give me a coat hanger,
I'll build your car.

Put that on there.

as we come down,

I don't want to get that stuck

So I'm going through here
and I can see

that the end of my tape measure
goes right about there.

And we're about 27.

I started turning the tape
measure at and started

doing this and started doing
that, second guessing myself.

I'll never get it done.

This is something
that's new and fresh.

So I'm going to go
at it new and fresh.

I'm just going to go with it
and build it and it'll come.

I don't even know
where I'm going yet,

I'm building it such on the fly,
you know, as I'm building,

I don't even know
what I'm doing.

So as I do, I learn what to do
and what not to do.

So as I'm looking at it,
it's rusty here,

so this little motorcycle
is telling me to cut that off.

So I'm going to come up here
and take a finger and scribe

that all the way along there,
same distance,

all the way around, try to keep
the same distance.

Cut that off, then we'll stick
a piece of ramrod on,

weld the ramrod on that.

And then we'll make another
piece of ram rod

for the fender skirt.

Fender skirts I guess maybe
are for elegance,

but generally all fender skirts
are removable

to access the we'll need be.

Just gonna do
the plasma cutter,

cut that out
and be done with it.

fender's talking to me.

You don't know what
the bike is going to look like

until you actually do it, right?

But it has to be done
in a quick manner.

So that is
our new wheel opening.

Now that I have
the sill built,

I'm going to start building
the fender skirt.

Nothing like playing with
your wire.

I got a piece of ramrod
for the fender,

and I got a piece of ramrod
for the fender skirt,

as I got this ram rod here,

I tack that on
to mimic my wheel well.

I'm going to cut this off
right here

and I'm going to pull the head
to where I want it.

Then I'm going to take
a piece of ramrod

and run it from there to there.

Then we'll kind of pattern
out a piece of paper...

Then we'll probably just roll
the metal through the roller.

Oh, I love it the way
it's going.

And then we'll come in here
and tack that on

to the rod that I have.

But it's going to fit.

I got myself a fender skirt.

Piece of piss.
Nice, eh?

Because I was not a grown up,

That fender skirt's going on
there perfect,

hasn't got it warped up one bit.

straight up and down,

so it's going to go
on the fender skirt

and I gotta weld
- the washer on the other part.

It's time to make these fenders
skirts removable.

I'm doing the exact same thing
as I would do to a car

as I'm doing this motorcycle,
you know, I'm going to pin them,

I'm going to bolt them.
The removable, detachable.

You can ride it
with or without.

You go it?
- Yeah.

That's going to
weld to the bike.

This one's gonna weld
to the fender skirt.

When I put the fender skirt on,
that little pin

will go in that washer
and hold it on.

Down here
I'll run a bolt.

I'll bolt it there
and I'll bolt it there.

So I'll just take out
the two bolts,

out-pin it,
comes off.

Just hold it like that, bud.
That's good.

Can you get your bar out?

And that's how we bolt it.

There's our bolt, we reach up
underneath there

and take the bolt out.

Simplest thing, quickest thing
to do the job to get it done.

I'm gonna flip this over,
we're ready rock and roll, man.

I built the regulator so I can
check for leaks in the tank.
