Drivers have climbed 5,800 feet
up a mountain

to reach bandimere speedway
in colorado.

I hope none of them
are afraid of heights.

Dude, that's what you do

and higher and higher.

We're gonna race.
Are you all ready?

These drivers have faced
the challenges

of high altitude
racing before.

Man: At this altitude,
the air sucks.

We're gonna have to do
something to lean it out.

Azn:
We saw recently in idaho...

Just not our atmosphere.
The da is too high.

The cars don't work the same,
you know, they're generally --

manny looked earlier,
two to three tenths slower.

Mine left like a snail.

Farmtruck:
As well as when no prep kings
visited bandimere in the past.

[bleep] I've never raced
in this kind of altitude.

-It's definitely different.
-The people on nitrous,

they're walking around here
like proud peacocks.

Azn: All these engines seem
to have issues

creating power in this thin air,
but none more than turbo cars.

-I didn't leave on boost.
-I know.

Nitrous kind of got
the advantage.

They make their own air.

So we're gonna have to lean
it out, speed the blower up.

We're gonna have to run some
more timing in it.

We've got to amp
this thing up

because they kinda
have the advantage.

Right now, texas is kind of
getting their ass kicked.

Teamwork is gonna be the name
of the game as these drivers

try to figure out
the best tunes for their cars.

Azn:
Team texas is looking to turn
their luck around today.

Their main concern is still to
take out their 405 rivals.

When you're a damn outcast, man,
they put you in the sticks.

They make you park in vip
and everything else.

Team outcast, the newest team,

has been finding their stride
during the grudge races.

Azn: They're gonna try and keep
that momentum going today.

this is how we do it.
I know the turbo guys,

you guys are having problem

to try to make more power.

I heard it about 35 times over
the past three days dude.

It spools up, you know.
About six seconds.

But once it's spooled up,
I think we're good.

And this might be our day,

Team nola is still a force
in this competition.

a few speed bumps

in the last few grudge races,

farmtruck: Chief has been
itching to race nola,

especially lizzy musi.

If I can get her to race me
second round of grudge,

then I race ryan
third round of grudge.

-That gives me data for her.
-Think we got a good shot.

Azn:
He hasn't been able to nail down
a race with them yet,

but his passion to win
for the 405 is plainly visible.

We're in colorado, nola is who
we need to watch out for.

In my opinion,
texas is sucking it up.

Jeff: The beginning of the year,
we were only worried about

making sure texas
does not make it.

we never expected nola

to poke their head

the high altitude

isn't the only thing the teams
are gonna deal with today.

Farmtruck:
That's right, the weather may be
another factor at this track.

It has been raining off and on
for the past few days

and can definitely affect
track conditions.

Azn: These drivers are going
to have to adjust on the fly

if the weather
changes suddenly.

Got a few things going on here,
obviously.

It should be okay but, you know,
this altitude is what's

really gonna screw
a lot of people up.

We've been here,
we know what to do with it.

I'm telling you,
it's gonna be difficult.

It's gonna be a tuners race,
that's for sure.

Team texas is struggling
to stay competitive this year.

There's a bunch of
new combos on our team.

There's a bunch of rule changes
that were enforced on us.

So yes, we're
struggling this year.

But as always, we will
get it figured out.

Azn: It looks like team texas
is switching up its strategy

of only racing one another
during grudge matches,

which is smart since that
wasn't working for them.

If texas can see how they

against a consistent team
like nola,

that can be valuable
information for them.

That was a really strong pass
for mike murillo,

especially considering it
is the first hit of the night.

That is an understatement.
We are rolling, man.

Texas has been having issues
as a team,

but this could mark
a change of luck for them.

is another texas racer,

She suffered in idaho
with the high altitude.

Kayla and texas are going
to need all the data

they can get to do well
at this track.

we ran kayla morton first
grudge race, we took the win.

Car did get a little loose
in high gear.

I was excited just to be
out there on the track.

Sorry, I'm a little fat.
I'm out of breath.

This is tricky.

We're just
really struggling out here,

with this air,
and I feel like

everything's kind of
working against us,

but you never know
with these cars.

Hey, my pro charger's good.
-It could be erratic this time

and next time it could go
run the pass of its life,

so I'm not giving up yet.

It picked up out the back like,
first gear was terrible.

But then like probably when
it hit 25 pounds, it wasn't bad.

I mean I shifted...

Yeah. I think it's workable.

Azn: The high altitude hurt
kayla's ability

to make power
at this track.

Since texas has more turbo
and blower cars

than they do nitrous, they're
probably concerned right now.

Farmtruck: Maybe mike murillo
can give kayla

some helpful advice
to boost her power.

Coming up to the line now
is amarillo mike

from texas and reaper
from team outcast.

Azn:
I've heard for the occasion,

reaper has changed his name
to reefer. [ chuckles ]

farmtruck: I think the altitude
is getting to you, azn.

[ both laugh ]

azn:
Both these teams have changed up
their strategies to race people

other than their teammates.

Farmtruck:
The data they collect
on each other

could make a huge difference.
-I love this place.

It's a great track,
but the air is horrible.

But it's horrible for everybody,
so everybody's in the same boat,

you know, so we're all
fighting the same problem.

Yikes. That was some driving
from amarillo mike.

Farmtruck:
I agree. He saved his car,
but it looks like bad luck

has followed texas
all the way to colorado.

Azn: They had better find
a four leaf clover

or get a horseshoe or something
before the grudge race is over.

I think when I reached
and grabbed the wheel,

my glove touched
the trans button

and locked it up,
so it went sideways.

I got it gathered up
and then it spun around,

and then I ended up
in your lane, so.

I was just coming to say hi.
Mine went boo, whoot!

Air is not affecting the car
as bad as we thought

because I turned
the blower way up on it,

making about 43 pounds of boost.
Car is coming around,

looking like
it's gonna be really fast.

Farmtruck:
Daddy dave and chuck 55
are the first two 405 drivers

to get a feel
for this track.

Azn:
While other teams are starting
to race against each other,

team okc is sticking
to their plan

to keep information
between teammates.

Farmtruck: They're keeping it
in their circle of trust.

Daddy dave:
Just like any other sport,
no prep kings advances.

We all get faster,
we all struggle,

and then we all come together
as a team,

and we all go faster
as a team.

And all four teams
seem to be doing that,

so the vibe this year
is teamwork,

be fast,
be competitive, and win.

It did some real [bleep]
down there.

Farmtruck:
That's not a great start
for team okc.

Azn: No, it was not.
Both cars got squirrelly

so they have a lot of work
ahead of them

if they want to take wins
at this track.

you go into the wall?

-I pelted it, got out of it.

That thing shook the tires.

-Yours did?
-Yeah. That's kind of weird.

Man, I was just trying
to save the run.

That thing was shaking
the tires, so.

I got this little thing
that sticks up on the dash,

it's down there by my
torque converter now.

Tires shook so bad it fell down
there, glove box come open.

-Yeah, well...
-Nice start.

Now I got to get back
there and make another hit.

-Alright.
-I got to win this.

Jeff: So here at bandimere,
we're almost a mile high.

Right now the altitude --

the corrected altitude
is 9,800 feet,

which is insane
for a turbo car.

There's less air here
than there is, say, oklahoma.

So you have to spin
everything faster,

you've got to turn
everything harder

to make up
for the loss of air.

Which, loss of air,
loss of horsepower, so.

We're all fighting
the same problem.

The only guys that
would have an advantage here

are the nitrous guys,

so they're gonna be
the ones to watch.

Farmtruck: Team okc is stacked
with turbo cars.

So these grudge races are
really important to the team.

Azn: Building boost at this
track can be tricky,

but every hit a 405 car
can take

means more data
to go around.

Farmtruck:
If they can figure out
what works for their cars,

the whole team
is going to be better off.

azn: Looks like jeff did not
have any power

coming off the starting line.

Farmtruck: Because of this
high altitude air,

turbo cars are taking
a longer time to spool up.

The green light dropped before
jeff had the power he needed.

Azn: You know, the 405 needs
to be smart when they're staging

so they can build up
enough power to win races.

Good job, man.

Fourth pass on the car

Then I got it, and I didn't see.
And I didn't know

if you were gonna bump up
all the way through

so I didn't want to have you
hanging out, so I went in.

It popped and I

I bumped
and I was like, yeah.

Azn: Team texas has been
having trouble

keeping up with okc and nola.

Farmtruck: They have been on
the struggle bus for real.

Coming up to the line now

is one of the team's
fastest cars, birdman.

Azn: Team texas already raced
against nola today

and now birdman is lining up

against the vixen
of team outcast.

Farmtruck:
Looks like they're trying to
collect data on all the teams.

azn: Whoa, those are two
strong passes.

Farmtruck: Birdman and vixen
just showed out

and put the other
teams on notice.

Azn: With texas struggling
and team outcast

being the new kids in town,

both these guys needed
a good grudge hit.

Farmtruck: Taking the data back
to their teams

could make a big difference
in what they see

from texas and outcast
at this track.

Whoo, that track will take
a lot more than I thought.

This is not good news for texas.

Wilhoit is one of
their heavy hitters.

Even though he made a trip
down the track, he hurt his car.

Azn: Team texas better rally
to get the car fixed, fast.

Farmtruck:
Team okc racers

ryan martin and robin roberts
are pulling to the line.

Farmtruck:
Since jeff lutz had issues
during his hit earlier tonight,

the data gathered here
is going to be

really important to his team.

Farmtruck:
For sure. Getting these turbo
powered cars to build boost

before the green light drops

will be key to winning
at bandimere.

for both cars.

Farmtruck:
They left with plenty of power
and went straight,

which is exactly
what the team needs.

Azn: Ryan and robin will be able

fairly close till then.

I was noticing you right there,

through the 330 for sure.

Chief is team 405, but he's been
using his own strategy

when it comes to grudge racing.

Farmtruck:
He usually tries to race
the fastest person

that will agree to race him.
He wants to race lizzy musi,

but she already had
a grudge race set up.

Azn: This solo pass is gonna be
really important for him.

This high altitude air
is absolutely going

to affect his pass,
but chief is an expert tuner.

If anyone can turn
that car around, it's him.

azn: He did not have any issues
building boost there, bro.

Farmtruck:
Chief left hard and wiggled
toward the wall.

That gave him good data
because it showed

that he has the power
to go down this track fast.

If he can make
the crow fly straight,

he's going to be hard
to beat in colorado.

Big chief:
Altitude is tough to deal with

because I have a mutton motor
with 98 mm turbos,

so without air,
you can't spin the turbo.

So you know,
it's tough to deal with,

but as a tuner, you know,
it's a tuners love.

Tuners love
to race tracks like this

because everybody
has to deal with that.

Not everybody can do it.
So I feel like I can do it,

and you know,
judging by that pass right there

we just got a couple of slight
tweaks and we're gonna be fast.

Farmtruck: Team nola is finally
making it back to the line.

Azn: Scott taylor ran the first
grudge race of the night,

but nola has not
been back up since.

Farmtruck:
I guess they've been watching
the other teams

from the sidelines.

I wonder how that will affect
the way they tune their cars.

Azn: Lizzy was supposed to run
disco dean from team outcast

but he broke before
getting to the line,

so she's going to make
a solo pass down the track.

Farmtruck:
I bet chief wishes he was still
in the staging lanes.

He would have gladly slipped
into disco dean's spot

to get some data on lizzy.

Azn: What does that mean?

-Don't analyze it.
-Are you trying to...

-You know what that means.
-Okay.

Lizzy musi does not seem very
happy with her car on that pass.

Azn: Although the nitrous guys
may have it a little easier

than the turbo cars
at this altitude,

it's still difficult
to find the tune up here.

have to get air, fuel

to nitrous ratios right.

Making a mistake could mean
not enough power

or blowing up your motor.

Azn: She's probably hoping that
her teammates kye kelly

and jerry bird
coming up next will be able

to share
some usable data with her.

azn: Those were much stronger
runs for team nola.

Farmtruck:
Jerry bird and kye kelly were
door to door the whole race.

Azn: They got good data
on the track here,

which will help lizzy
and the rest of the team

figure out their nitrous tunes.

I got out of there, it was
just like pop pop pop pop.

But the dash was lighting up,

like it was hitting

Lizzy seems worried but kye
and jerry made strong passes

and may have
this track figured out.

Mother nature might have
something to say about that.

Azn: That's right. These clouds
are rolling through and rain

is starting to fall
on the track.

Farmtruck:
That means the grudge race
is finished for the night.

We'll have to pick
it up tomorrow.

The weather gets

It's exciting.

I don't know
what they say here in bandimere,

but I guess it's race and bake
in the morning time,

The clouds have cleared,
the sun is shining,

and last night's rain
has made this track like new.

Farmtruck:
The weather can really change
the conditions

of the track a lot.

Azn:
It's possible that the tunes
that worked last night

won't work today.

Farmtruck: Not only that but
the high altitude

is still going to be
an issue for these drivers.

Each team is going
to have to band together

and take advantage
of the grudge matches today.

We were behind the eight ball
last night, so.

It's either gonna go or not.

So the high altitude
has been kicking my ass.

It takes forever to spool
this car up.

We've been trying
to nip that in the bud.

It takes about eight seconds
to spool up.

I'm done working on it.
It is what it is,

I spool up before I even turn
the first bulb on.

That's my strategy. That's how
I'm gonna win this [bleep].

For a second grudge race, jeff
is gonna try to build boost

before lighting
the first staging bulb.

Farmtruck:
This will give him more time
to spool up,

which will give him more power
to get down the track.

farmtruck: Jeff's strategy
of building boost

before turning on the
staging lights works well.

Azn: Looks like the car left
with a lot more power

and was able to take the win.

Farmtruck:
Since so many 405 drivers
have turbo engines,

this way, building boost
could help the whole team.

That was a hell of
a drag race there.

Obviously monzo, neither one of
us got a grudge pass like night.

Hey, this altitude is tricky
on stuff, I've been here before.

I've been really
fast here before.

Some of the guys
need to be very careful.

They have to be aware
of the lights,

have to be aware of who
they're racing so team 405

can walk away with as many
victories as we can today.

Azn:
Chuck and monzo like to grudge
race each other at these events.

Farmtruck:
There's a lot of trust here.

we've seen lots of turbos

having issues building power
on the starting line.

Azn: I'm curious if these guys
will try lutz's

strategy of spooling
up before bumping in.

Farmtruck:
You know, the 405 may be
onto something here.

farmtruck: Looks like monzo lit
the staging bulbs

before starting to spool up.

Azn:
Chuck gave him time to built
boost before bumping in,

but other teams won't be
as generous going forward.

Farmtruck:
Chuck took the win.

Azn: And although he got
the w., it's not looking good.

There's a little smoke
coming from under his hood.

-[bleep] damn.
-It's on fire. Chuck!

Take the hood off.

Yeah, it destroyed it.
The crankshaft broke.

And I put a brand new motor
in it to come here.

That's how you win races,
with brand new parts.

There's a rod hanging out
right there.

-Yeah.

Yeah, there's a couple
hanging out, yeah.

On the first pass, grudge racing
monzo, it pulled two rods.

Two rods broke.

Looks like to me
they were starved with oil.

The end result is I'm missing
two rods, catastrophic failure,

and we're trying
to get this motor out,

get the spare motor in.

Hopefully we have enough time to
get it done before first round.

I don't know
if it's a parts failure

or somebody put it together
on Friday night.

I don't know what happened,
so, regardless if it's broke,

we're done.

Ryan: I'm gonna spool
before the yellows.

I don't want you
do anything special.

Go in first, but don't do
anything special, okay?

Farmtruck:
The 405 is taking advantage of
the second day of grudge racing.

Azn: Ryan, like most of 405,
has a turbo setup.

Farmtruck: Doc has nitrous.

Ryan is going to try
to stage his car without asking

doc to change
what he usually does.

Azn:
This will give ryan a chance
to practice spooling

against a nitrous car to see how
that might go in the main event.

Looks like team okc has power
management figured out.

Azn:
Ryan left with plenty of power

and it was a door to door race
with doc until the big end.

Farmtruck:
Ryan took the win but both cars
made great hits.

-Straight [bleep].
-Yeah it was.

So we're gonna go
on the left side.

Farmtruck:
Chief is making his way back up
to the line

after making a pretty
good hit last night.

Azn: He is continuing his trend
of racing drivers

from outside team okc.

Going a little
against the team strategy.

Farmtruck:
I guess he couldn't get lizzy
to agree to race him

after she had
engine issues last night.

Instead, he snagged a race
with mike murillo.

Azn:

After the fire from a blown

second grudge race

Yesterday, team texas was grudge

racing drivers
from several different teams.

Farmtruck:
Yeah, I noticed that today.
They seem to be focused

on racing
their own teammates again.

Azn:
It could be they're taking what
they learned from other teams

and sharing that information
with each other.

farmtruck: In no prep kings,
staging is how drivers signal

that they are ready
to start the race.

Azn: Once both drivers light
the top bulb,

they have 7 seconds
to finish staging.

Farmtruck:
If you take longer than that
you could be timed out,

forfeiting the race.

Azn: Since building boost at
bandimere is such an issue...

The cars that are going
to suffer the most

are the blower cars.

I don't think we're making
the boost yet,

or it ain't pulling
on top.

Azn:
...A lot of drivers use the tree
to their advantage.

to where you could bump into...

We're supposed to [indistinct]

so I could start coming off
and start bringing it in.

Farmtruck:
Turbo cars will start
building boost

before lighting
the first bulb,

giving themselves
longer to spool up

and allowing the car
to have the power

when the green light drops.

That's how you do it
if you have to.

man, we really struggled
the last two races here.

Got in our race,
got a good light.

About 70 foot out,
the rear wheel shattered.

Really don't know
what kept the car off the wall.

The car is alright, everything
on the passenger side is not.

Azn:
Team texas and shawn wilhoit
just cannot catch a break.

Farmtruck:
Breaking the mistress during
a grudge race is a tough loss.

No way he'll be racing
anymore today.

I need you to tell me.

Like, exactly
how fast lizzy is

while you're out there

You ought to guess on her
to piss her off.

Azn: Nola racer lizzy musi was
really frustrated

with her engine last night.

watching her closely,

Farmtruck:
Team nola is getting stronger

I guess it worked for them.

Texas drivers have been a mixed
bag during these grudge races.

Azn: A lot of them were not able
to make a clean pass,

and shawn wilhoit blew a tire
in his last pass,

which means texas
is down a heavy hitter.

Farmtruck:
They really need to get
good data

from eric bain
and amarillo mike.

Bain: You know, we've been
doing good this year.

Every time we go back, we change
something on the car, you know?

The car is hauling ass,

we have top notch crew.

They fix everything
in between rounds.

We just got to keep grinding

Farmtruck:

of his engine. It caused havoc.

Azn: He's gonna need
a whole new engine, bro,

which is not something
that can be fixed today.

Farmtruck:
This is the second car
that texas lost

because of mechanical issues.
-Not a good look for team texas.

And the other teams
smell blood in the water.

Knocked the bang out of it.
[bleep] rod, I guess.

A whole oil pan after the rod
came out of it.

farmtruck:
In the main event...
