[Episode 13]

Wait.

Sorry, Father...

Who goes there?

Is anyone out there?

What's going on? Who's there?

What are you doing? Get them!

Elder.

Elder, Elder!

Elder!

Are you all right?

They stole it.

Do not worry.

Our people have gone after the thieves.

I'm talking about the map!

They stole the map.

What?

You all go over there. We'll go this way.

Oh! Hurry.

Hurry, hurry, hurry...

Oh, you.

Why didn't you inform the authorities of this matter?

Is that why you are telling the Crown Prince?

You were with the Crown Prince.

His guard, right?

I'm right, aren't I?

Who are you?

You are correct that I was the guard of the Crown Prince.

However, I am now working for the boss of the pack carriers.

I am the Crown Prince.

I am that person...

from five years ago.

I ordered you to investigate the Yangsucheong.

I am the Crown Prince.

If you...

If you truly are the Crown Prince...

then who is in the palace right now?

Who in the world is he?

It is my friend, Lee Seon, who is pretending to be the Crown Prince.

He has been captured by the Pyeonsoo-hwe.

He is a puppet King at the moment.

What about you?

You are freely living in the world.

You have a good life as the boss of the pack carriers?

You have not changed at all.

Is it a given to you that others must sacrifice for you?

The Crown Prince...

For a person like you...

Lord Han gave up his precious life.

Crown Prince!

As the Crown Prince of a nation...

I gave a thoughtless and immature order causing Lord Han to die.

Even you...

I put your life in danger.

I should have apologized five years ago.

I am finally doing it now.

Please...

forgive me.

That day...

I should not have come to you with that information.

You were a 17 year-old boy and I got you riled up.

I should not have made you stand up to the scary Pyeonsoo-hwe.

Lord Han!

I know it may be difficult for you, but I will ask you this favor.

Help the Crown Prince.

Be a source of strength for him, so that he can fight to the end.

Lord Han!

It's all my fault.

Do you have the confidence to make sure his death was not in vain?

Yes.

I will fight until the Pyeonsoo-hwe are destroyed.

You must.

That is the only way Lord Han's death will not have been in vain.

I... will fight with you.

Thank you.

Now, please tell me the truth.

What does copper have to do with the Pyeonsoo-hwe?

The Pyeonsoo-hwe are using copper as collateral

to get the right to print money.

We need to stop Dae Mok by getting copper

and giving it to the Ministry of Finance.

Pirates, the Pyeonsoo-hwe, and right to print money.

Do you have a way to get this copper?

Have you looked into it?

Do you mean the boss of the pack carriers?

Yes.

He started out leading a small group.

He unified all eight cities and created one organization.

They say he is a man of great character and strategy.

The leaders of all eight cities started to call him Boss.

He was an adviser during the general meetings.

What about now?

Now, not only is he dealing with pack carriers

he is dealing with all the large merchants, as well.

He is starting to become their leader.

Using just his strategy, he was able to convince the large merchants?

Where is he right now?

I do not know.

Find him.

Tell him I want to meet him.

Yes, Elder Dae Mok.

He was able to persuade the large merchants.

I am curious about what kind of person he is.

He will either be...

someone I need...

or someone I need to kill.

Wild grass, soybean, purple parsnip, and roots.

By the way, you know that boss of the pack carriers?

I have heard he is very handsome. Is he?

Young Master Chun Soo.

It is dangerous, so hold on tight.

I don't know who you are looking for, but I am not Chun Soo.

Is it because I did not keep my promise?

Is that why you're pretending not to know me?

You have mistaken me for someone else.

I have never made a promise to you or received a letter.

I told you I did not do this because of your request.

There is no need for your loyalty or thanks.

He just has a common face and a common name.

If you want to clear your father's name...

find the large pot.

Waiting is so hard.

What's the matter, Wiggly?

When do we eat dinner? I'm hungry.

Waiting is hard?

Yes.

Except for when I'm in the outhouse, waiting to go.

Otherwise, waiting is hard.

The outhouse, you say...

Auntie, help me make something.

These medicines are a gift from His Majesty.

What? He's giving them to us?

He said you are good subjects who serve him well.

I was ordered to give these to you.

Stop!

This is a misunderstanding.

I was delivering medicine under royal command.

Did you say it was under my command?

Turn around and show your face.

Did you not hear the royal command to show your face?

Crown Prince! Please spare my father.

My father is innocent!

Please save him, Crown Prince!

Your Majesty!

Please forgive us, Your Majesty.

That is enough.

Let her go at once!

I called her here.

I need to discuss something with her.

You may all leave.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Why did you try to sneak into the greenhouse?

Your Majesty...

why did you save me?

Your Majesty.

Do you remember me, by chance?

What do you mean remember you?

I... do not know you.

Do you really...

not remember me?

I told you, I do not know you.

However...

I have met you before.

I remember you, Your Majesty.

Young Miss thinks I am the Crown Prince.

If that's the case...

Father!

Young Miss thinks I killed her father.

Young Miss.

It is me, Lee Seon.

The person who grew up with you and has known you since we were young.

I am Lee Seon.

You should... leave now.

Yes... Your Majesty.

Find out why she is here dressed in medical clothes.

And how long she will be here.

Don't leave anything out. Find out everything.

Yes, Your Majesty.

What do you mean remember you?

I... do not know you.

He...

would not remember the death of someone like my father.

Father!

Young Miss!

Is that you, Hyun Seok?

Yes, Your Majesty.

Did you look into it?

She recently started supplying medicinal herbs to the doctor.

Then was she disguising herself to get into the greenhouse.

I believe so.

Why the greenhouse?

Why don't you use this opportunity to meet her?

You can meet with her and ask her about the greenhouse.

Tell her you are her childhood friend.

You hid it all this time to protect her and your family.

If you can meet her in the palace...

would it not be all right to tell her the truth?

If I could just see her once...

I could tell her that I am Lee Seon.

If I could tell her how I feel...

Even just one time...

I could endure a lifetime.

Hyun Seok.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Can you look for an opportunity to bring her to me?

Yes, Your Majesty.

I will bring her to you.

A lone tree stands...

The Japanese who supposedly had their copper stolen by pirates

have been spending money everywhere.

One of the Pyeonsoo-hwe's leaders happened to appear.

There was a suspicious person wearing a mask in his room.

However...

To wave one's finger...

it was not a man.

Losing the map doesn't feel right.

The time and location for the transfer of the copper is on it.

It was probably because they knew a senior person from Hanyang had arrived.

These rural thieves just wanted to find something valuable.

Should we change the date of the transfer?

If we change the date

we cannot get it to Father by the date he wants it.

We need to proceed as planned.

Also, we will have to catch that rat.

Pardon?

If it was not just a mere thief, but someone out to ruin our plans...

they will be caught in a trap.

"Met pirates."

"Had 100,000 geun of copper stolen."

Would records of copper being stolen be evidence enough?

I found it.

What is it?

They are the merchants who said their copper was stolen by pirates.

There is a record of them later buying large amounts of ginseng and red ginseng.

If their copper was stolen, how did they afford ginseng?

Are there really any pirates?

We will need to look into it.

You cannot go now. There are people outside.

Come on.

Follow me.

It is a secret passageway to the ocean.

Follow me if you do not want to get caught.

You're safe. I'm relieved.

How did you know to come here?

She told me you would come if I waited here.

I thought you were just a thief.

You were actually the boss of the pack carriers.

I also thought you were just a thief.

You know everything that goes on here like the palm of your hand.

You knew that one of the leaders of the Pyeonsoo-hwe was here.

You even knew about the secret passageway.

You are full of surprises.

I have heard that you are very thoughtful and wise.

But, how reckless you are.

You are full of surprises, as well.

I admit that I was.

I was too rash.

Also, I am truly thankful.

The Yangsucheong have been disguising themselves as pirates.

And they have been making secret deals with the Japanese.

I thought it was connected to the pirates.

However, I did not think it would be in this way.

Using copper to make secret deals...

You did not know it was copper they were dealing in?

Why is it copper of all things?

It is all the work of the Pyeonsoo-hwe.

They plan on using copper to threaten the government.

The Pyeonsoo-hwe....

The Pyeonsoo-hwe are at the root of all evil.

They are the true owners of Yangsucheong and they do not care about the people.

I will get the copper before them in order to stop them.

You are very honorable.

You put yourself at risk for the people of this nation.

If it is for you... no...

If it is for the people, I, Park Moo Ha, can risk my life.

What will happen once you get the copper?

If we can get the copper to the government

we can stop their plans.

Then you must get the copper.

You must stop the Pyeonsoo-hwe.

You now know our situation.

Please tell us your situation.

Why did you save us?

Who are you?

Would you like to know the truth?

Of course.

Then can you tell me the truth first?

Can you tell me who you are?

What is your true goal?

As I thought, it is not yet time.

I am merely someone who wants to help.

That is all you need to know. Please accept this.

If my assumptions are correct

this is a map showing where the supposed pirates steal the copper.

I believe it shows the time and location of the secret deal.

Head Merchant.

It says Haedongpi between five o'clock and seven o'clock in the morning.

Haedongpi.

Between five and seven.

When will the goods arrive?

They should be arriving mid-month.

Middle of the month.

That is when the King needs to eat the deadly flower.

I will have to get the right to print money on that day.

Tell him that the people are suffering because there is no money in circulation.

Say that he must make more Sangpyeong Tongbo coins for them.

Continue to make those appeals.

Yes, Elder Dae Mok.

Your Majesty, there is no money circulating within the city.

There is a severe lack of money distribution.

What do you mean?

Is it very bad?

It is not only in the city.

It is the surrounding areas such as Gyeonggi and Sannam.

They are all suffering from lack of currency circulation.

Because there is no money, the people cannot buy goods.

There are no people in the markets.

It has become harder for the people to make a living.

Your Majesty.

You need to mint money in order to create stability for the people.

However, Your Majesty...

minting new money comes at a great cost.

Why don't we use silver if we are in urgent need?

Regular people cannot use silver to make transactions.

It is only right to fix the problem at its root.

The Ministry of Finance must mint Sangpyeong Tongbo coins.

Please allow it.

Go on and do so.

I am the Minister of Finance, Seo Ho Soo, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

We do not have the funds to mint new currency right now.

What do you mean you do not have the funds?

In order to solve this issue...

we need to mint 100,000 Sangpyeong Tongbos.

We do not have enough copper to do that.

You do not have copper?

Correct, Your Majesty.

In order to mint 100,000 coins, we need at least 780,000 geun of copper.

We have less than 10,000 geun of copper.

How could you have so little copper?

There have been pirates in the area.

We could not import copper.

You say it was pirates?

You are in charge of the soldiers.

Why don't you look into it, Minister of the Right?

Yes, do that.

Yes.

I accept your royal command.

The Ministry of Finance only has 10,000 geun of copper?

How can that be?

It seems to me...

Elder Dae Mok is up to something.

He collected his debts and is hoarding everything.

Now, he orders Sangpyeong Tongbo to be minted?

But, the Ministry of Finance has no copper.

It seems that Dae Mok has not given up on the right to print money.

Look into a way to get copper, no matter what.

Well...

there is no supply anywhere.

Then are we supposed to let Dae Mok have his way?

I will do my best to talk to the King and buy time.

Do whatever you must. Get the copper.

Yes, Your Majesty.

[Waegwan] Even if...

this is a map of the secret copper deal

it will difficult for us to catch them on our own.

I will go and bring people to help us.

According to this map, it is tomorrow.

How can you get them here by then?

There are people who are ready for times like these.

Who is that?

If there are pirates...

who would have to make a move?

A person who must make a move...

A person who gets paid by the nation, stops crime, and catches pirates.

The royal guard must do that.

Yes, so...

How would we get them to help?

Would they help just by seeing a map?

Is there anyone here who is ambitious, easily persuaded, and controls many men?

Someone who believes he isn't suited for a rural town like this.

That would be even better.

Yes, yes.

How are you?

Tomorrow, a soldier in the navy will come through the market.

Just as you requested, he is ambitious and easily persuaded.

My Lord, it has been a long time.

I haven't seen her before.

Do you know her?

We can increase our quantity to double for our deal this time.

Yes.

We like to share poetry with one another.

She is a large merchant from Hansung.

- Just now... - Yes?

I heard something very interesting.

What?

The head merchant just told me.

She saw a royal emissary traveling here in secret.

A secret royal emissary?

Yes.

I think he is here on orders from the King.

I will get going now.

Wait, Mae Chang.

Introduce me to that merchant.

A secret royal emissary must keep their identity hidden.

It is very difficult to get information.

I will do my very best to help.

How and where you got this information...

can you keep it a secret?

Yes, of course!

The royal emissary is Elder Park Moo Ha.

He is related to the Dowager Queen.

He is favored by the Minister of the Right.

The Minister of the Right?

Have you ever seen a pirate around here?

What are you talking about, Sir?

You've heard rumors, but never seen one in real life?

I don't understand a thing you are saying.

It is that man over there.

He speaks Japanese well.

Ah, I see.

Do you speak Japanese?

Of course... I cannot.

How am I doing? Is he looking this way?

Yes, he is.

Oh, this man. You're frustrated with me, right?

I am frustrated too.

You sure are a strange fellow. Get away from me.

This rascal. I think he cursed at me.

Why don't we get going?

Yes, let's get going.

- No! - Come on.

They say he will get a great promotion after this trip.

Though he may look that way, he is very loyal.

He always repays those who help him.

You should meet with him.

Who are you?

Who are you that you are following me?
