You will kill the person you love.

Ep.08 [The Human Way. The Animal Way. II]

Episode 15

National Forensic Service

Jang Hye Mi, walking my dog, Manson, Seoul Jong-gu, Gayeong-dong 107-8, to the highest point

Sit.

Good job.

Go inside.

Manson is a fierce dog. How did you manage to train him so well?

Dogs have a sixth sense, so they know who they need to attack.

Once they feel the wave of energy, they use their sense of smell.

Then a fierce dog chooses its owner.

You like mugwart blue blood tea, right?

Wuthering Heights

Revenge... Heathcliff who returns

destroys everything

and leads everyone to destruction.

Destruction is also one of the ways to possess love.

While watching the woman he loved dying because of him, I wonder what Heathcliff felt.

I wonder. He might have cried.

I wonder what it feels like to kill the one you love.

Well, I don't know.

Do you think it would be sad?

If it were you, how do you think you'd feel?

If it was me...

perhaps I would kill the person who set the trap.

Could the person who fell in the trap really discover the trap that ensnared him?

You could set a trap of your own.

Something more painful.

What if the prey doesn't show up to where you've set the trap and are waiting?

You'd lure it there.

By frantically triggering the prey's instinct.

That prey... I'm curious as to what choice it'll make.

Whether it will go to the place where the hunter lures it to like a beast,

or whether it will be able to reject its own instinct like a human being.

I guess these types of things are interesting to you.

I like writing about prey.

A human being is like a beast at his most human moment.

Help me!

Until the incident occurred, there was definitely a sign to keep out.

But only on the day when Cheon Jong Woo fell in, there was no sign.

The distance to this lake from the villa where the party took is about 300 meters.

And the lake connects to a trail.

What about the CCTV?

There are no CCTVs around the lake or the villa.

There's a CCTV near an eatery by the trail

and also at a restaurant that looks like a cabin. Oh!

There's one at a convenience store, too.

But the incident happened here, so why are you asking about the CCTV all the way out by the trail?

I'm sure it was planned. Punks like that usually plan these things out.

A week before the incident, three days before, a day before, and then a few hours before on the day of the incident.

He would have done a preliminary survey and come up with the scenario.

Check the CCTV near the trail, and the analysis lab...

No. Hand them to my assistant.

It's just a handful of rural area CCTV recordings. I'll check them all myself.

But even if it was attempted murder,

the incident wasn't reported, and it's the Chief Prosecutor Cheon's family matters.

If Chief Prosecutor Cheon found out you were sticking your nose in it, would he just stand by and watch?

Detective Joo, are you Chief Prosecutor Cheon's person?

Pardon?

Actually, you're the one who's Chief Prosecutor Cheon's...

Well, I'm not someone who answers to any one person.

Chief Prosecutor Cheon and I have known each other for 30 years, so...

He's sulking. He is.

Are you sulking? Huh?

I saw that kid for the first time when he was 13 years old.

He had a lot of interest in Gong Ji Cheol.

So I gave him a book as a present.

Mother-in-Law, could we meet today for a moment?

I'll come to you since you're busy. Where are you?

I'm near the summer home in Sangpyeong.

Mom

Yes, Mom.

I'll be right there.

Driver Lee, you said you can't swim, right?

Ever since you fell in the river when you were young, you said you were scared of the water.

Yes.

Right. Then come stand over here.

In front of me.

I apologize. I misstepped.

Right. You may leave.

It must have been so fun for you to see Jong Woo flailing in the water.

Was this it? The reason for calling me over?

How could it be?

Even at moments like this, your voice is unfalteringly gentle.

You were born with a voice with the ability to strike the core of people's hearts.

This must also be your taste.

Can you try and smile more brightly?

I called you over to make you aware that I will never abandon you.

You're no ordinary top 1%.

You're breathtakingly perfect in every way.

Mom.

At times like these, moms usually tell their kids they won't abandon them.

I'm disappointed if you wanted an ordinary mom.

Go first. I'll be right behind you.

You've never come when I waited.

Didn't someone else come to get me instead of you?

That someone else is also me, in the end.

Since I sent that person to you myself.

This time, you go first. I'll be right behind you.

It's been so long since I've been to an amusement park. This time it's Edge World.

Jeong Sa Bin is mad that I'm going without her.

A blue passenger car...

Who are you looking for?

Why are you investigating so stupidly?

I'm busy.

You have a part-timer at the front of the store.

Let me see for a little while longer.

Stop. Stop, stop.

Rewind it a little bit?

There.

RM bike...

Yes, Prosecutor. I got someone.

CCTV caught Cheon Jong Beom's bike.

Yes. RM bike logo is

on the chassis and the wheel. Yes.

The license plate number is

SSD-6047. Oh!

Cheon Jong Beom's bike that was captured on the CCTV just drove past in front of me!

Are you sure it's Cheon Jong Beom?

He's wearing a helmet, so I couldn't see his face,

but when I am sure it's his bike from having trailed him before.

The video captured at the convenience store

was at 2:30 PM on the day of the incident.

But there was a female student riding on the back of the bike.

- A female student? - Yes.

And her uniform is from Sanjeong High School nearby.

I'll go and check it out.

I want to talk about Cheon Jong Beom today.

By the way, is that person okay?

The one who you saved at the lake?

I was surprised. I didn't know you had a hero DNA.

You're someone who thinks rationally.

How could you jump in to save another woman in front of your fiancee?

If you're bothered because of Sang Ah—

It's just my own personal curiosity.

A man who doesn't even bat an eye when a man who he falsely accused hangs himself in prison,

how could he be so selfless at that moment?

Falsely accused?

Oh, I heard it somewhere.

That someone had his eye on you because his younger brother died unfairly.

Who is that person?

I thought you knew.

Seo Ta Ha was it?

His brother is Seo Seong Ha.

Seo Tae Ha... younger brother Seo Seong Ha.

Seo Seong Ha wasn't falsely accused. He was a pedophile who hung around day care centers whenever he got out of prison.

Still, a prosecutor has no right to put

false charges on a pedophile and make him stand trial.

I'm sorry, but the reason I came was what Cheong Jong Beom was copying from Gong Ji Cheol.

Both know of your specialty.

So the reason you're not indicting the real culprit in Im Hwa Yeong's case is because of Cheon Jong Beom.

Cheon Jong Beom knew of the murderer's secret

and committed the yellow umbrella copycat crime.

But why is Gong Ji Cheol excluded from the list of suspects?

Gong Ji Cheol?

My book is fiction.

Like a picture puzzle, the fact is hiding within the fiction.

Could the last page be fact or fiction?

You keep beating around the bush. I'll get going now.

I have no time to play games with you.

Wait.

You might have met him already.

There's a prison guard who saw Gong Ji Cheol walk out of prison alive after being executed.

Prosecutor, I confirmed with the prison where Gong Ji Cheol was executed.

1988, May 31st, there were three prison guards who took part in his execution.

Goo Won Jin, Hwang Jeong Euh, Jeong Seong Eun.

Goo Won Jin and Hwang Jeong Euh have already passed away.

And Jeong Seong Eun is still alive.

Where is his place of residence?

Kyeonggi, Yongin-si Sangheung-gu, Seolin-dong 36-2

Dasarang Nursing Hospital, Jeong Seong Eun.

Please take my dad out for two walks today.

It can't be too long. Just 30 minutes each.

He likes flowers.

I went to a tulip festival when I was young at a children's park.

Oh, please don't let anyone other than me or my uncles see him.

What's dad doing right now?

He keeps writing things down these days.

I think he's writing things down he remembers for when he recovers.

Please tell him I love him.

I'll pretend I didn't hear that confession.

I have someone I'm going to marry.

The wedding invitation will be out soon. If you want, I'll send you one.

I'm crazy.

A Way to End One-Sided Love

What?

You're a regular here?

What are you reading?

It's nice out. You're not staying in here all day, are you?

No. I like it here.

I have something I need to mentally master before the day's over.

You're not buying this, are you?

Hey. What are you doing?

You need to come with me somewhere. Let's go.

I don't want to go. What's wrong with you?

♫ Your eyes that look at me ♫

♫ Look sad without reason ♫

♫ When I look at you, the whole world ♫

♫ Seems to have stopped by being filled with you ♫

♫ Someday, even if we have hard time ♫

I'll go get drinks.

I'll have a pineapple flavored Coolpis juice.

♫ I'm not going to leave ♫

♫ Even if the warm wind carries me away ♫

♫ You are my one and only love ♫

♫ Don't let go of my hand ♫

♫ My dear, even if we don't say anything ♫

♫ Even if I'm just looking at you ♫

♫ You're the one I want to see ♫

This game center is where you wanted to bring me to?

I wanted to get on a rollercoaster with you, to be exact.

How can we do that here?

But this isn't scary, is it?

To be honest, I've never been on a ride before.

If you're scared, hold onto me.

We're going.

It feels real.

Oh, it's scary.

It feels like my body's falling while my heart's in its place.

But let's go on it one more time.

It's great. The best!

Great. Best?

You're not picking up! Dasarang Nursing Hospital

I got a call that my son was injured, so I think I have to step out for a bit.

Dasarang Nursing Hospital

Which room is Patient Jeong Seong Eun?

His daughter requested that no one other than his family members be allowed to visit him.

I’m an acquaintance of his daughter.

What’s the daughter’s name?

- Her name is— - Miss!

Patient Jeong Seong Eun has disappeared.

I definitely saw him seated during the concert.

I told you to keep a close eye on him!

I told you he leaves his room whenever he gets a chance!

Where’s his carer?

Where did he go?

Miss Jeong, look for him.

And Miss Lee, call his guardian right away! Hurry!

Hello? This is Dasarang Nursing Hospital.

You’re Jeong Seong Eun’s guardian, right?

Yes, Miss Jeong Sa Bin. Your father’s missing.

Yes, I think you’ll have to come to the hospital.

I'll be right over.

I think I need to leave first.

- What's going on? - It's about my dad.

Sorry. I'll call you.

Just wait a little, kitty. I'll be there to save you soon.

Right, good.

No, you can't move.

You're going to fall. Hold still.

Just a sec, kitty.

You didn't let go, right? Don't ever let go.

That scared me.

I won't...

let go of your hand. Ever.

Dasarang Nursing Hospital

Dasaran Nursing Hospital

What do we do? It's all my fault.

While I went out for a little while.

What about the closed prison? Did you check?

Dad always went there whenever he disappeared.

I already checked that place, but he wasn't there.

I'll go check again.

Sa Bin, even your acquaintance went looking for him, too,

so he'll be found soon.

I mean, is it your boyfriend?

Boyfriend?

If you tell anyone I'm alive, you're dead.

That guy is coming.

Run away. Run.

Please run away. Please run away.

Run away. Run away.

Mr. Jeong Seong Eun.

Jeong Sa Bin.

If you stay near Kim Soo Hyeok, both you and your father will die.

Dad!

How is my dad...

Let's get him back to the hospital first.
