(male narrator) Long, long ago, deep in the forest
there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived.
They called themselves Smurfs.
They were good.
[theme music]
Then there was Gargamel, the evil wizard.
He was bad.
Oh, I hate Smurfs!
I'll get you
I'll get all of you
if it's the last thing I ever do!
[evil laughter]
Oh!
Oh, I'll get you!
'I'll find your village someday. You'll be sorry.'
(male narrator) Well, the forest is still there.
And if you listen, you may hear Gargamel's rage.
And if you're good you may just
catch a glimpse ...of the Smurfs.

Oh, time to get fixed up for a night on the town.

Dear old Granny Dogatha's locket.
I don't know what I'd ever do without
its invincible powers. Ha, ha!
[snorts]
Now, for my crowning glory.
[laughs]
[instrumental music]
And a blast or two of my perfume, Eau de Evil.
There. Oh, Hogatha, you ravishing beauty.
mwah mwah
You simply drive me wild.

Oh, my badness. What an icky storm.
No self-respecting witch would miss
being out on a night like this.

[screams]
[squawks]
Oh! Oh!
[grunts]
Oh, you rotten vulture.
[squawks]
thud
It's not nice to fool Aunt Hogatha.
[yelps]
Tsk, tsk, tsk. If only some sweet warlock were here
to throw down his cape. Oh.
[instrumental music]
[Greedy groaning]
Oh, my stomach.
I can't believe he ate the whole thing.
I can. But a spoonful of this
Peyo-smurf-tate should do the trick.
Ugh! Now I feel worse.
Don't worry, Greedy. I invented something that should help.
It'll make your bed more comfy.
That too low? How about higher?
No problem, no problem.
[grunting]
No wonder you're ill. Lying around on cold, hard floors.
I always say, "An ounce of prevention
is worth a pound of cure." And..
thud
Perhaps he's not as sick as I thought.
Uh, you just relax, Greedy, and I'll fluff your pillows.
[chuckles]
Feel better now?
Yeah, my head hurts so bad I forgot about my stomachache.
Ohh..
I hate "Ohh."
[humming]
Oh, I'll bet these flowers will cheer old Greedy up.
[gasps] How pretty.
I wonder where it came from.
Yoo-hoo. Yoo-hoo.
Anybody lose a locket?
Yoo-hoo. Yoo-hoo.
Well, I guess I can keep it.
[chiming]
[chiming]
[gasps] Oh! My locket. It's gone.
And someone else just put it on.
[groaning]
That locket is the source of all my witchery.
I must find it before my powers fade.
Oh, where, oh, where could it be?
Oh, a sign of life.
'Now, we're getting somewhere.'
[snorts]
[Azrael meowing]
(Gargamel) 'Silence, Azrael.'
'For this experiment I must have absolute silence.'
[Azrael meows]
swish
[blows raspberry]
Oh.. Now, where was I? Oh, yes.
[chanting]
Oh!
Good afternoon, sir.
I seem to have misplaced a teensy little locket.
Have you perchance seen it? Oh, not that it's valuable in itself
but my dear old grandmother gave it to me and..

How can I be brilliant when I am constantly
distracted by dum-dums?

I wasn't finished.
You are now. You.. You..
Temper, temper.
Yeow!
Oh, dear. Without my locket, my powers are fading fast.

[groans]
So are we going to help Hogatha find Hogatha's locket?
Yes, yes, yes.
Well, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship.
No, no, no.
This is ridiculous.
We've been looking for hours and still no locket.
Then you're not looking hard enough, Garglesmell.
[grumbles] That's "Gargamel."
Whatever.
sniff sniff
ah-ah-achoo
Oh, that's where I fell. But where's my locket?
'There's nothing here, but little footprints.'
Little footprints? Ha, ha!
Smurf prints.
The Smurfs must have found your locket.
- Then take me to them. - Uh, on one condition.
When we find the Smurfs' village
you get your locket, and I get the Smurfs.
Why? Of what value are they?
Oh, uh, strictly sentimental, of course.
- Deal? - Deal.
(both) Yuck!
[humming]
Oh, he's asleep. I'll just leave them here.
I only wish I could fill Greedy's
whole room with flowers.
[chiming]
zap zap zap
[sneezes]
Look, Smurfette, I'm giving this to Greedy to beautify his room.
- What is it? - Me.
Too bad I only have this small one left.
Oh, poor Greedy.
I wish he was out of that bed and fit as a fiddle.
[chiming]
(Greedy) Help. Help. Help. Papa Smurf!
Help!
Ooh, this could be it, Garglesmell.
That's "Gargamel." Gar-ga-mel.
Whatever.
[instrumental music]
- Oh, they're getting larger. - Yes. Yes, yes, yes.
[Gargamel gasps]
[Hogatha snorts]
- Eek! - Ooh!
(both) Don't ever do that again.
Now, what'll we do?
We've lost the trail completely.
[sniffing]
[meowing]
Oh, these should lead us straight to the culprit.
[snorts]
[playing off-key music]
(Greedy) Oh! Papa Smurf, what am I gonna do?
Papa Smurf, this is awful.
Not only is Greedy a fiddle, but he's out of tune.
I've never seen such an illness.
Finding a cure won't be easy.
Yoo-hoo, Jokey. I've got something to show you.
I've got something to show you first.
boom
Surprise.
[giggles]
Oh, Jokey. Just once I wish you'd grow up and get serious.
[giggles]
Yikes.
Have you considered the meaning of life?
Are Smurfs alone in the universe?
You wouldn't hurt a smurf with glasses, would you?
Brother Brainy, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
- Grouchy, look what I found. - I hate looking.
But, Grouchy, isn't it pretty?
- I hate pretty too. - Oh, dear.
I sure wish he'd cheer up.
[chiming]
Wocka, wocka. Is everybody happy?
Who will join me in my quest for truth?
My search for relevance.
Hey, Smurf, you hear the one about the smurfball game?
- No. - Hey.
It was called on account of rain.
You get it? Wocka, wocka, wocka.
The folly of a clown.
Masking his loneliness with a joke.
(all) Papa Smurf!
[party horn blowing]
Smurfs, we seem to have an epidemic on our hands.
What's worse, it's some sort of evil spell.
(all) Oh, no.
[clamoring]
Just keep smurfing as usual, but beware of anything strange.
'Until I can solve this mystery, none of us is safe.'
[gulps]
Curses. Another dead end.
You know what I like about you, Garglesmell?
What? Absolutely nothing.
Why, you...sure know how to kid a guy.
[laughs]
[muttering]
Old witch.
By smurf, I think I've got it.
[blows party horn]
Boy, what a swell party. Wocka, wocka, wocka.
[panting]
This batch of magic dust is our only hope.
We'll have to do this more often.
You say that now, but we may be
like ships that pass in the night, never to meet again.
[blows party horn]
(Papa Smurf) 'Keep your smurfs crossed.'
[chimes]
Whee! Woo-woo! Ha, ha! Wocka, wocka!
Oh, smurf. Nothing works.
[sighs] This is awful.
And it all started so suddenly.
[gasps] Why, it all started when I found this locket.
Maybe, maybe it's bad luck.
I-I'd better get rid of it.
Maybe good luck will return.
We're lost again, aren't we, Garglesmell?
Of course not.
We started here, then we went here
then we just left here and now..
- And now? - We're lost.
Isn't there anyone we could ask?
A friend of the Smurfs, perhaps?
No. Their only friends are disgusting
things like butterflies and bunnies and--
That gives me a marvelous idea.
You can go. I'll handle this myself now, thank you.
W-what? But-but what about our deal?
Begone or I'll vanish you into thin air.
[yowls]
Now, I have just enough power left for one last spell.
The perfect spell.
[laughs]
Goodbye, lovely locket.
Why me, Azrael?
All I ask is a chance to spread a little evil in the world
and what do I get?
[gasps]
Hogatha's locket.
Now, it belongs to me.
[humming]
Oh, me, oh, my.
If someone doesn't save me soon, I'm just going to croak.
A-a frog that talks.
I'm no frog, dearie. I'm a beautiful princess.
At least...I was.
[sobbing]
A wicked old witch put a spell on me...
...and only the kiss of a handsome Smurf can save me.
Oh, I-I guess that leaves me out. I'm a Smurfette.
[sobbing]
But follow me. I'll take you to a whole bunch of Smurfs.
Oh, how sweet.
I thought you'd never ask.
I'll try once more to smurf a cure for this spell.
But it will take all my concentration
so do not disturb me under any conditions.
Ahem! Smurfs, we are in the presence of royalty.
Royalty?
[indistinct chatter]
This frog is really a beautiful princess under a witch's spell.
'Only a kiss from a Smurf can save her.'
'So who will be first?'
- Uh-uh. No. - Not me. No.
Go ahead, Vanity, you're the closest.
Uh, I'd love to, but I, uh..
[coughs] I have a little cold.
- But Harmony will do it. - Not me.
Like, I have to save my lips. Ha-ha-ha.
But Brainy's mouth is always moving, let him do it.
Wait. Haste makes waste.
Look before you lip, or leap and--
Forget it. You'd bore her to death.
Hiya, doll. It's party time.
[blows party horn]
Say-y-y, what a dynamite frog.
'You come here often? What's your sign?'
Grouchy, just one kiss will turn this frog into a princess.
Well, why didn't you say so?
Pucker up, princess.
Wow! What a Smurf.
mwah mwah
mwah mwah mwah
Now we have that miserable witch right where we want her.
[laughs]
[laughs]
What more could a wizard wish for
except maybe all the Smurfs on a silver platter.
[laughs]
zap zap
whoosh
What in the..
(Smurfs) 'Huh. Gargamel!'
Incredible.
[meowing]
[laughs] All my dreams have finally come true.
Don't be bashful. Kiss me, you fool.
mwah mwah
Oh! They're gone.
This is terrible, I've got to kiss a Smurf
or I'll be stuck like this forever.
Help! Garglesmell!
[humming]
There. And now for the biggest decision of my life.
What to do with you. Ha-ha-ha!
[laughs]
- Let's see. I could salt a few. - Yeah.
- Pickle a few. - Yeah.
- French-fry a few. - Yeah.
Or I could put them all together in one big stew.
- Yeah! - Yeah!
- Greedy. - Oh, yeah.
Smurfs, our only hope for escape is dangling on that hook.
First, we need a piece of that string for a lasso.
[Azrael meows]
But we can do nothing with Azrael watching us.
Maybe we can turn a curse into a blessing. Listen.
[whispers]
slurp
[yelps]
(Grouchy) 'Wocka, wocka!'
Wocka, wocka. Wocka, wocka.
[shivers]
Okay, boost us up.
Jokey. Here it comes.
(Smurfs) 'Hurray! We did it!'
Yoo-hoo, Garglesmell.
It's your old friend, Hogatha.
I-I-I've reconsidered and just possibly
could use your help, dear.
Forget it. I already have the Smurfs and your locket.
[laughs]
Oh, quick, Smurfs, kiss me. Break the spell.
[grunts]
And stay out, or I'll turn you into frogs' legs.
Now, we have a stew to do, eh, Azrael?
meow
(Papa Smurf) 'Quickly, Hefty, there's no time to lose.'
Oh, smurf.
[Smurfs gasp]
I'm so glad you could all make it for dinner.
It won't be long now.
[laughs]
I don't know if I can reach it from here.
Smurf it for all you're worth.
(Hefty) 'I've got it. I've got it.'
(Papa Smurf) 'Good work, Hefty. Hurry.'
[Smurfs gasp]
[meowing]
[panting]
[yowls]
(Smurfette) 'Oh, we've got to hurry.'
click
- Quickly, run. - Wait, Smurfs, wait.
Don't go until you've kissed me.
What? Stop, you rotten little snakes.
[instrumental music]
(Gargamel) 'Whoa!'
thud
Oh! My locket.
It's mine again.
My Smurfs, they're all escaping.
Who cares? I have no use for any of them.
- Except this one. - Help.
I need a serving girl and you'll do fine.
Oh, you're a little small, but you can work twice as hard.
Or three times as hard, or ten times.
[snorts and laughs]
We can't leave without Smurfette.
- I-I won't do it. - You have no choice, dearie.
Oh, yes, I do.
- Hey. - Papa Smurf.
Now the locket's power belongs to us.
[all cheer]
No. No one shall ever use these powers again.
All they cause is trouble.
[explosion]
zap
We-we're cured.
[laughs]
Good. I hate wocka, wockas.
You fools. What have you done?
When the locket is destroyed, so am I!
[coughing]
Come back here, you cowardly little Smurfs.
(Gargamel) 'Oh, boy, do they burn me up.'
[Gargamel coughing]
[all gasp]
It's another witch.
[gasps] A whole lot of witches.
[frogs ribbiting]
There's nothing to fear. These frogs are old friends of mine.
Wow, that's a relief.
[frogs ribbiting]
They're offering us a ride to the village.
[Smurfs cheering]
All's well that smurfs well.
[frogs ribbiting]
