Chad: When I was young, the only thing I thought

I'd ever make would be the court report.

I was a bad boy.

I've been fired at every job I ever worked in.

A friend of mine named me the green goblin

because I would sell a lot of things,

and green moonshine was one of them.

If you didn't break your fist off a bottle,

you wasn't drinking the right stuff.

So when I opened my garage,

I called it green goblin customs.

My shop is self-made.

I shingled it. I sided it.

I framed it.

We build dream cars here.

I'm just using what I got and making it work.

Last year, it was kind of a blur

because I didn't know what I was getting into,

but after we were all done, I didn't need anybody to say

that we did a good job because I knew that we all did.

I'm growing.

I have changed from being the green goblin.

So I decided to give my shop a new name,

hiltz auto co.

We have something to show the world,

and that's what we're going to do.

First build. - Exciting.

It is.

When I was working on my own,

I would finish probably one to three cars a year.

Last year, working as a team, we did five cars,

six months of hard work.

This season, I've got seven builds booked.

It's a big commitment.

I'm going to try to step it up this year.

I don't know how we're going to get it done,

but I want to go for it.

We're growing as a business.

Giving me chills, baby. Giving me chills.

Jolene: We live in a very small town here,

so it's a great opportunity for our shop

to take on all these clients.

With every build that we're putting out,

we're establishing a reputation for hiltz auto co.

So we want to expand the brand.

We want to, you know, be known worldwide.

Been a long winter, I can tell you that.

It's nice to get about, get out, and get the car out, huh?

Out and about.

We've promised all the clients we'd get these builds done

by the end of the year.

So we have just over six months to take on seven builds,

and that's a lot faster than we've ever done before.

Are you excited about going to jamie's?

Yeah. - It's a big opportunity.

You know, we're starting out with a big opportunity.

Chad: Jamie runs a car dealership,

and when I first met him, I had a car in mind

that I wanted to build called the green goblin.

It was in my brain. I wanted to build it.

I went into his dealership, and I had the balls

and the intensity and the audacity

to ask him if he would support me

in buying me some cadillac parts.

And he said yes.

First build.

Chad's cars are different.

They're interesting. They're in your face.

They're fun.

His vision obviously shows through.

Do you have in mind what you want to build?

I want something that my wife judy and I can get in

and go for a nice summer cruise.

I like whitewalls. I like chrome.

I like a low stance, something that's clean.

I see that you're a sharp-dressed man,

so you want a sharp car.

I want a sharp-dressed car.

Is it okay that I can be creative on the whole build?

I want something that you come up with.

So you're going to give me free range.

Most definitely. That's the whole point.

I'm like a chicken out the back door here.

I want to give him something that he would never suspect.

And the only way you could get it

is if you bought it from me.

What's your budget?

I'm thinking somewhere in the $35,000 to $40,000 range.

This is a small little spot where I live,

and there's not a whole bunch of stuff around.

You have to be on the hunt full time.

shawn is a lobster fisherman, but he's into ratty cars.

He doesn't want something all shiny

and what everybody else has.

So, how's things been in your neck of the woods?

Not bad. We're just starting to roll again.

And I'm looking for something for --

I got a building going on,

and I'm looking for something to start with,

to be honest with you.

You don't mind if I look around, do you?

Shawn: I've known chad a little over 10 years now,

and I consider him a pretty good friend.

I'd probably do anything for him.

Other than murder somebody,

It's got a smile, it's got a chest of a woman,

and it's got beautiful eyes.

Shawn: Yeah. - I just like how it

gives it a brow on this side and a brow on this side.

Do you mind if I look it over? -Go ahead.

Christ, I would almost drive it the way it is.

Doors even shut good.

It's a '57 cadillac two-door hardtop.

What's not to like?

You know, it's top of the line, chev made.

Probably the king drove one at one time.

It's kind of telling me where to customize it

because where all the rust is.

I'm building the whole car in my head as I look at it.

Probably cut the roof off it. Yeah.

Make a roadster out of it. Get rid of the back seat.

You couldn't come up to 5?

Shawn: All my old cars is my kids.

And if I have to part with them, it would be pretty hard.

to see what he does with this car when he's done.

It's kind of a futuristic '50s dream car is what I'm going.

We're going to make it into a roadster,

so we're going to chop the roof off.

I'm going to cut two feet out of it.

It's going to be a two-seater.

A nice car for a sharp-dressed man.

That means I was happy with all of them.

Jolene's the glue.

She holds it all together in the office.

She's a person that I bounce all my ideas off of.

She thinks about how we can make the business thrive.

We're soul mates.

Aaron the awesome wood guy.

Aaron rand is a carpenter by trade.

He's a fine craftsman,

and I'm lucky to have him on our team

because he can make the pieces.

And me son.

He was an inspiration in my eye.

He jumped from nut to nut.

colton is my son.

He grew up with his grandmother and his mother.

He lived four hours away, and now we get him on summers.

School has given him some knowledge.

Now he's going through experience.

I took on seven builds this year.

Seven builds.

Gives me a little bit of anxiety

because I told these people, like, there's certain dates

that things have to be done.

They're going to come to us and expect us to do something.

They're paying us, so we're going to do

the best job we can, I hope.

The first one is a '57 cadillac.

So we're going to shorten it and make a roadster out of it.

Can we paint it pink?

No.

22-inch chrome blades?

No. - Oh, come on.

Put some spinners on it with "bad chad" in the middle.

I want to take the roof off it for starters.

I do not want to damage the back window

because I want to put the back window in the front.

The car is going to be cut in half.

On the back, we're going to take this back wheel

and move it up like this.

Cutting the roof off --

a lot of metal's getting cut out.

I definitely don't want that thing folding in half.

Powertrain and stuff still there?

Yeah, all that. Runs.

How many purists are going to be crying when we cut it in half?

I'm not sure, but it's my party and I'll cry if I want to.

so there has to be a time line.

I've been doing it when we were off,

and I just feel like my skills are better,

Colton, I've had a big impact on him,

and I know because he's changed.

He's really shown me a lot on the off season.

He's calling me in the morning

and asking me if I want his help.

soon as you entertain the thought of cutting something

or chopping something in half,

my brain goes straight to straight lines.

And next is a tape measure.

So we're 10 inches wide there.

This is how short the car is going to be.

That's how much we're going to take out of the chassis.

You can lay that right on the chassis,

make a mark on either side.

That'll be the measurement.

Alex: Everything's got to line up

when this goes underneath that body.

Chad: As I keep cutting, it's just a matter of how long

before I get it, you know? It's going good.

I just have to keep cutting.

Yeah, so a few minutes taken

is achievements gained.

Chad: Keep the patient still.

The cars back then were not perfect.

Neither am I.

Neither by the end of the shop was perfect.

And I like it that way.

Jolene: We just cut a car that was perfectly perfect,

like, a day before and now it's in however many pieces.

So it's kind of scary.

Chad: Nobody's perfect.

And if we could not be perfect on everything,

how many more people would feel good about themselves?

It's the truth, you know?

Not sitting right.

Jolene: If it doesn't come back together,

then, you know, we can't really afford that,

especially with the first build.

We want to start strong.

We don't want to have any hiccups

that are going to slow us down.

Alex said he wants to be the guy that cuts it in half.

Chad: I've got to the point, you know,

I'm feeling comfortable, you know, with the cars

and just kind of got to that point

where I think I can cut any car apart and make anything.

Like the early '50s, '60s, they had an "x" frame

that goes together in the center.

I got to make it strong.

That's how chevrolet checks to see if the frame's any good.

you cannot say that you can do it if you have no pudding.

For me, it was a must to work hard

because I didn't have school.

I wasn't going to make any money

'cause I didn't have my schooling.

So I went to work somewhere.

I had to make sure that I would have my job

jolene: We've never sent bumpers this size to get chromed,

so it's a lot.

I think I'm the only one that cares about the budget

because I have to organize it.

But, I mean, it's going to cost a lot.

I'm going to try to get excited about it

instead of stress about it, because I think it is --

It's '50s chrome, '50s style.

We want it to sparkle.

The chrome is what's going to make it pop.

It's like the jewelry of the car.

I can see how he's a great carpenter because he knows

how to make a great pattern.

And it's good when I can have him running forward

when I'm trying to catch up.

We're going to put plate steel in there,

3/16ths plate,

and we'll drill the holes in it.

is because I take full responsibility of

people's projects they give me.

So as things get misplaced

and not looked after and not taken care of,

I get upset because it comes back on hiltz auto co.

Colton, I really, really, really would like you to step up

and make sure that all the bumper stuff

is in place when it comes time.

when you're at your lowest, you find out who you are.

But there's a few more things that I feel like

we should have done with this car.

So I really want to look for just something

I can put in the grille to make it shine.

It's kind of got a flat gray.

I don't want to send it to be chromed

because it would cost too much.

So if I can take something to take its place,

I would enjoy that.

I love driving on the old dirt with the old cars.

Just love it. - Makes me feel like I'm old.

I don't love it in white shoes.

that's not typically used on a car build

and see some type of vision for it.

chad: When I bought this property,

the grass was probably four feet high,

was probably 300 or 400 pallets on the property.

Didn't matter to me.

It was a place to lay my head down

and a place to start my dream.

I would draw little pictures of what I wanted it to look like.

The driveway had a round spot there,

and it just seemed like it would be nice

to plonk a bunch of signs up

so you could drive around and see all the signs.

My garage, it takes you back in time, you know?

As you look at it, you think it's been here 100 years,

but it hasn't.

I just had a vision for what I wanted.

I built it this way, and I built it for me.

He has a vision of his own that he sees.

You're never quite sure what you're going to get in the end.

The mind of him is genius to be able to just look at something

and create anything out of metal.

Chad: The look of the car, I would call it classy,

kind of a futuristic color, like, you know what I mean?

The shimmery blue, the sky, and what could be,

and that little red

just to make sure that people pay attention.

The car speaks for itself.

It's special. It's one of a kind.

It's an imagination. It's a great thing.

Big day's coming up, boys.

Jamie gets to see his car. Big day.

We'll got the car sanded and painted,

but there's still lots to do, believe me.

We got the lights, we got the grille,

got the windshield, and the bumpers are back.

And now we're going to see

if colton can put them back together.

We're almost there.

The only time I'm going to get stressed out

when the bumpers don't go together.

They will.

Colton: The bumpers were my responsibility,

and I kind of let it slip through my fingers

and let dad down.

So the only way to redeem from that

is to bust my ass to make sure I get them back together right.

That's the right side?

It's not as easy as it looks whatsoever,

especially when - there's pressure behind it.

So these must connect right underneath that.

I love him and I want to make sure

that he gets over that hurdle.

And I'm going to fight with him for a bit till he gets there.

that he's supposed to be a man.
