[CRICKETS CHIRPING]
[PANTING]
[GROWLING]
-Ah! -[GROWLS]
[GRUNTS] Come on!
Ow! Oh.
Less painful if I just let him catch me.
[CONTINUES GROWLING]
[YELPING]
[GRUNTING]
-[YELLS] -[TOXIC MUTANT MUTTERS]
[GROANS]
-Sweet civilization! -[TOXIC MUTANT ROARS]
Help me! Help! [BANGING]
[SCREAMING AND GASPING]
Oh! [GRUNTS]
[SCREAMING]
I'm startin' to think it's just...
[EXCLAIMING]
[MUTTERS]
[YELLS]
DAYTON KNIGHT: On this tape, it's easy to tell who the bad guy is.
But in this courtroom,
it's my job to reveal who the monster really is.
Yes, the real bad guy is
Fred Jones.
[THEME MUSIC PLAYING]
[GAVEL BANGING]
The defense may call its first witness.
[SPUTTERING]
Uh, Miss Blake, you are Mr. Jones' defense attorney.
-Yes? -[STOPS]
Huh? [CHUCKLES] Oh, right. Sorry.
Totally blanked.
The defense calls Velma Dinkley.
[CHUCKLES]
-Looking good, Miss Dinkley. -[GRUMBLES]
So, in your own words...
Well, actually, maybe dumb it down a little.
No offense. I have no idea what she's talking about half the time.
[SIGHS]
Could you please tell the court
what happened on the night in question?
Sure.
It all began with some disturbing news.
Oh, no. Remember that gold thief we caught in Aldsville?
The headless minotaur.
Yeah. They let him go.
He's saying he was set up by you.
Me?
I pulled off his mask.
Well, I pulled down his neck hold
right in front of the police.
He called us the "M" word.
What innocent person even says "meddling?"
Well, technically, framing someone
could fall under the umbrella of meddling.
To be safe, one of us should make sure
we do all of our mystery investigations by the book.
Legally speaking.
-[PHONE CHIMES] -Ah. Here!
-Bippy's Law School Adventure. -[MUSIC PLAYING]
When you beat the final level, you're a lawyer.
Daphne, you can't become a lawyer by winning a video game.
-Shh. Jump! Duck! Jump! -[SCOOBY-DOO AND SHAGGY GASPING]
They're throwing circumstantial evidence at Bippy.
Look, that sign! [YELPS]
"Last chance for snacks!"
Like, do they mean, forever?
-That's not... -A life without snacks?
-I don't think... -That's no life at all.
-But... -BOTH: We have to stop!
[TIRES SKIDDING]
[ALL GROANING]
Oh, you know, I bet that sign just meant last chance for snacks
within city limits.
That makes more sense.
[SIGHS]
[VAN DOORS OPEN AND CLOSE]
Welcome to Snacks by Gus.
Snacks are the artistic medium through which I work out all my problems.
This rice cereal treat shaped like my dog
who ran away when I was 10.
Come home, Pumpkin!
[SLOBBERING]
It's all good.
Do you have anything in candied apple
based on unrequited adolescent crushes?
I need to restock the awkward puberty traumas.
Business has been slow since that toxic mutant started terrorizing the area.
BOTH: Toxic mutant?
They say it comes from that abandoned town
-a couple of miles down. -[THUNDER RUMBLING]
It sounds like a mystery to me.
We've got to stop this toxic mutant.
Whoa, hold on there, cowboy!
These allegations are just hearsay.
Even an alleged toxic mutant is afforded the right to due process of law.
Run, Bippy! It's the burden of proof!
Yeah, you know, Fred,
maybe we should let things cool down a bit
before jumping into another mystery.
I mean, it's not as if we don't run into a lot of them.
Like, everywhere we ever go,
every single time.
Almost suspiciously, so.
Fred Jones doesn't run from danger.
[THUNDER RUMBLING]
[GROWLS]
VELMA: "Keep out. Toxic danger."
This sign is dated 1955.
No one's been in this town for over 60 years?
Like, let's join 'em in not being here.
To the bandwagon!
"Welcome to Safety Springs."
[CHUCKLES] That's the name of the toxic meltdown town?
Time to don my irony hat.
Wait. I've heard about this place.
Safety Springs was home to the Happy Sunshine Chemical factory,
the world's leader in food preservatives.
Then disaster struck.
An experimental new chemical caused a meltdown.
The entire town was evacuated in an hour.
It's been abandoned ever since.
A whole town frozen in time since 1955?
Is it safe to enter?
Actually, yes.
The chemicals should've dissipated years ago.
"Should" means glowing fur.
But, these will protect us.
And in style, as well.
-Hazmat just screams summer. -[DISCO MUSIC PLAYING]
Strange. These hazardous material suits can't be more than a few years old.
Where'd you guys find those?
Like, they were under a blanket in the back of that pickup truck over there.
Hold it! I just beat level three.
And technically, these suits are illegal contraband.
Though, it would be hard to prove animus furandi.
Oh, give it up, Daphne.
There's no way a side-scrolling platform game
can take the place of years of law school.
Oh, yeah. Wanna bet?
You know perfectly well I don't believe in gambling.
But since I know I'm right, it's not technically a gamble.
What do you want to wager?
Hmm. Hmm?
Mmm.
Huh?
Miss Dinkley, could you please state for the record,
the result of the wager you made that day?
I think that's obvious.
Please answer the question, Miss Dinkley.
Me, bald.
-Oh, that was a bad bet. -[INDISTINCT CHATTER]
[GIGGLES]
Could you please read that back?
"Me, bald."
[CHUCKLES] Yeah, that's what I thought. Thank you.
[INHALES]
Your bald witness.
Your Honor, this is totally irrelevant.
I cannot just sit here and allow them to make a mockery of this court.
Wait!
Miss Dinkley,
are you saying the defendant, Fred Jones,
chose to enter Safety Springs
even though the signs made it clear, it was not only illegal,
but dangerous to do so?
Well, yes. He did.
Objection, Your Honor.
My client is not on trial here.
Uh, actually he is, Miss Blake.
Call your next witness.
[CHOMPING]
Uh, excuse me, there's no food in the courtroom.
Yes, there is. I found some.
[GOBBLING]
Mr. Rogers, you were the first to encounter this so called "toxic mutant."
Can you describe him for the court?
Sure. Like, he was big, over six feet tall.
Like, about Fred's height.
And broad shouldered. Basically shaped like Fred, I guess.
Yeah, picture Fred wearing a toxic mutant costume
and you pretty much got him.
[SLAMS HEAD]
Tell us what happened.
Like, Fred had us split-up and told Scoob and I
to look for clues in the school.
[THUNDER RUMBLING]
[FEET THUDDING]
Look, Scoob. The Safety Springs School mascot
is The Friendly Molecule.
[LAUGHS] Like where's Daphne's irony hat when you need it?
Hmm, I guess they weren't very good.
Their trophy case has no trophies.
"Friendly" doesn't win games.
Hey, let's check out the cafeteria.
If this town made food preservatives,
there might still be something edible there.
[SNIFFS]
-This way! -[LAUGHS]
Over here.
[GROWLING]
Yikes! Like, if that's what the cafeteria smells like,
I say we skip it.
[GROWLING]
[GROWLING]
[ALL CLAMORING]
Yes, please, do go on.
So, being the professionals that we are,
we ran screaming for our lives.
[BOTH SCREAMING]
[GROWLING]
[BANGING]
[GRUNTING]
Ah!
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's tardiness.
-Huh? -None of your lip, young man.
I mean, literally, you don't have lips. What's up with that?
Now, sit!
[SCOFFS]
My name is Professor I-Couldn't-Think-of-a- Name-Fast-Enough.
I teach Monster 101.
In this class, you'll learn how to be the most horrifying creature you can be.
I expect great things from you.
Psst. [CHUCKLES]
I saw that. Passing notes? Give it here.
Hmm.
Okay, that's it, young man. To the principal's office with you.
[WHIMPERING]
[ROARING]
All these cool, old 1950s clothing stores are empty.
Too bad. This stuff would be worth a fortune now.
Strange. In an emergency mass evacuation,
people tend to grab children, pets, and photo albums
before their inventories of saddle shoes and poodle skirts.
-Run! Toxic Mutant behind us. -[SCREAMING]
[BOTH SHIVERING]
[WIND BLOWING]
Are you sure?
Toxic, check. Mutating, check.
Like, where'd he go? And where's Fred?
So, when the Toxic Mutant appeared,
Fred Jones was nowhere to be seen, huh?
Awfully convenient, wouldn't you say?
Well, Fred wasn't gone long. Like, maybe five minutes.
You know, just about the amount of time it would take someone to,
say, pull on and off a full-body costume.
Objection, Your Honor, that statement is harmful to my case.
Sustained.
What?
I refuse to stand by and watch the justice system be destroyed.
Wait! Mr. Rogers, would you tell the jury what happened next?
Like, you know what happened, you were there.
Fred, where were you?
The 50s were the pinnacle of ascot vogue.
So I was trying to find a men's neckwear shop...
Uh... To look for clues.
Hey! You're not supposed to be here.
-Who are you? -District Attorney Dayton Knight.
Safety Springs poses a major health threat to the entire area.
The real threat is the Toxic Mutant.
No, that creature's proof this town is still dangerous.
The mayor fears we could wind up with an epidemic.
A Toxic Mutant army!
A toxic mutant army?
Listen, there's something mysterious going on here in Safety Springs.
The only thing going on is you are trespassing in a quarantined area.
Hey, I am not the bad guy here.
Fred, don't say anything else.
He takes the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination.
Great. Super Lario Brothers to the rescue.
Getting worried about losing our little bet, Velma?
-Clip, clip, clip. -Yeah, keep talking.
You'll soon be wearing your "irony hat" for practical reasons.
Clip, clip.
Officers, escort them out of town.
If I catch you here again, I look forward to facing you in a real court of law.
[GROANS, BLUBBERING]
[SCREAMS AND CRIES]
-[BLOWING HORN] -[TIRES SCREECHING]
I'm leaving you, Dayton, for him!
[EAGLE SCREAMS]
Hey! None of that last part happened.
Well, that's the way I've been telling it.
I'll allow it because the imagery amuses me.
I don't have to sit here and be insulted.
Have fun with your little trial because I am history.
[SLAMS DOOR] Wait!
Mr. Rogers,
did you say Fred is a connoisseur of vintage 1950s ascots?
Like, in a good way, though.
A fan of 1950s fashion
just happens to come across an abandoned 1950s town.
He claims he didn't find a neckwear shop
but he's wearing a vintage 1950s ascot in this very courtroom.
Is he not?
[ALL GASPING]
[GASPS]
Thank you, Mr. Rogers. That is all.
Ms. Blake.
I ask the jury to ignore the incriminating neckwear on my client
and instead enjoy the delightful testimonial stylings of my next witness.
Scooby-Doo.
Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?
I Scooby-Dooby-Doo.
Mr. Doo, please tell the court what happened next.
[CLEARS THROAT]
[INHALES] Well...
[THUNDER RUMBLING]
-Daphne. -Huh?
-We're doing a thing. -Oh, sorry.
[GAME SOUNDS CONTINUE]
Ugh.
Uh, guys, do you realize how many laws
we've technically broken investigating mysteries?
Trespassing, interfering with a crime scene, corrupting evidence,
dressing up a dog as a waitress.
Although, granted that's just on the books in Idaho.
My finest moment.
Fred, Daphne has a point. That district attorney was serious.
Maybe you're taking this too far.
Where are we even going?
Someone wants to keep us out of this town and I'm gonna find out why.
My gut tells me the answer lies in the one place anybody would be crazy to go.
The Happy Sunshine Chemical Factory.
[THUNDER RUMBLES]
No, seriously, where are we going?
[RADIATION DETECTOR CLICKING]
[BEEPING]
Just as I thought. It's perfectly safe.
I wonder why they don't reopen the town.
Everything here is covered in 60 years of dust and grime,
except for these tarps.
It's a moving van.
This truck is not from the 1950s.
I knew it. Gang, take a look at this.
It doesn't take a Bippy to know grand larceny when you see it.
Go, Friendly Molecules!
[CLATTERING]
[ROARS]
Zoinks! It's the toxic mutant-army recruiter!
-Run! -[EVERYONE SCREAMS]
-[ROARING] -[GRUNTING]
[BANGING ON SHUTTER]
Ha!
-[ENGINE STARTING] -[ROARS]
[EXCLAIMS]
[TIRES SCREECHING]
-[EXCLAIMING] -[ROARING]
[EXCLAIMING]
[GROANING]
[YELLING]
[TIRES SCREECHING]
[EXCLAIMING]
[GASPING]
-[TIRES SCREECHING] -Huh?
[GRUNTS] Ooh!
[ROARS]
[TRUCK DOOR CLOSES]
Like, we made it! [LAUGHING]
Ah! Just in time for that awkward puberty trauma you requested.
Prom rejection in churros.
[SCREAMS] Jennifer!
[CHOMPING]
I'm peachy keen.
-[POLICE SIRENS BLARING] -Huh?
Oh, thank goodness you're here. Look what we found.
[CLATTERING]
Officers, arrest this man.
That's how it happened.
Mr. Doo.
This isn't the first time you've been involved in something like this
with Fred Jones, is it?
No?
What are the odds that, literally everywhere he goes,
someone wearing a mask is committing an overly elaborate crime
which Fred Jones just happens to foil.
Any impartial jury should find this extremely suspicious by itself.
[GRUMBLING]
[SPLASHES]
But now, Fred Jones was caught red-handed
with a truck full of illegal contraband stolen from Safety Springs!
This is the one mystery he did not solve,
because this is the one mystery where he was finally caught and unmasked
as the real mastermind behind every single mystery
he ever claims to have solved!
-[GASPS] -That's not true!
I think you'd agree, using plain common sense,
that Fred Jones' guilt is the only solution to this mystery.
I call Fred Jones to the stand.
[AUDIENCE GASPS]
Mr. Jones, I know it's a big risk putting the defendant on the stand.
I mean, the whole thing seriously could blow up in my face
and you'd be sent up the river for good.
So, to prevent this disaster in the making from destroying your life,
please tell the jury what happened next.
[SIGHS] So, there I was in the interrogation room.
[DOOR OPENS]
Fred, are you all right?
You're right, Velma. I went too far.
I put the people I care most about in danger.
And for what? To solve a mystery?
I deserve to be here.
Like, don't say that, Fred.
You may be the leader of our gang but that's only because we choose to follow you.
For some unexplained reason.
Don't worry, Fred. Truth and justice will win in the end.
-We'll get you a good lawyer. -[VIDEO GAME SOUND]
Wait, I just beat the last level of the game!
That means, officially, I'm a lawyer!
What?
-I'll be proud to represent you, Fred. -Seriously?
Thanks, Daphne.
I said you need a good lawyer.
Hold it. That's it! I just solved the mystery!
A little late on this one, Fred.
Not if we can buy a little time.
On it. I'll need to file a writ of habeas corpus.
But first, I need some scissors.
-And that brings us up to the present. -DELIVERY GUY: Wait!
[AUDIENCE MURMURING]
Your Honor, I just received a piece of evidence
that will exonerate my client once and for all.
Not only that, it'll show this court the real solution to this mystery.
Objection! It's too late to bring in new evidence.
The prosecution hasn't even had a chance to see it!
I'll allow it.
You've got to be kidding!
This is the biggest farce of a trial I've ever been involved in!
A defense attorney who passed the Bar in a video game?
Testimony from a dog?
Evidence thrown out because it hurts the defense's case?
-[SCREAMS] That's it! I'm walking! -[SLAMS DOOR]
I mean it this time! [SLAMS DOOR]
I'm not coming back! [SLAMS DOOR]
So, stop looking over here! [SLAMS DOOR]
I can't stop doing this! [SLAMS DOOR]
Someone please lock this door! [SLAMS DOOR]
You may continue, Ms. Blake.
[AUDIENCE GASPS]
[AUDIENCE MURMURING]
[DOOR CRASHES]
[ROARS]
[AUDIENCE SCREAMING]
[GRUNTS]
[ROARS]
-[DAPHNE GASPS] -[SCREAMS]
[GRUNTS]
[ROARS]
[DAPHNE SCREAMS]
Now!
[GROANS]
Oh! Ooh!
Your Honor, may I?
Huh? [ROARS]
[MOANS]
Case dismissed.
[CHUCKLES]
Your Honor, here's the real criminal mastermind.
The toxic mutant is...
ALL: Dayton Knight?
Your Honor, I'll explain everything in my closing arguments.
I'll allow it.
I'll pretty much allow anything at this point.
Thank you, Your Honor.
Ladies and gentlemen, District Attorney Dayton Knight
abused his legal authority
in an attempt to steal the valuables left abandoned in Safety Springs.
Because of the toxic meltdown at the factory,
everyone abandoned the town, leaving all their valuables behind.
Knight learned the chemicals were no longer dangerous,
and created the legend of the toxic mutant to keep everyone away from Safety Springs.
The new hazardous waste suits we found,
proved someone had recently been checking to see if the town was safe to enter.
In order to steal everything,
Knight and his henchmen stashed all the loot in moving trucks
hidden in the last place they knew anyone would go.
The Happy Sunshine Chemical Factory.
But we got too close.
And believing he could rig the legal system,
Knight decided to turn Fred Jones into his fall guy.
And I would've gotten away with it, too,
if that meddling lawyer didn't discover that surprise envelope
with evidence that proved who the toxic mutant really was.
You mean this?
[SCREAMING]
Thanks, gang. Thanks for believing in me.
Even when I stopped believing in myself.
Like, maybe next time you'll think twice
before running headlong into a dangerous mystery.
-Probably not. -Yeah, who cares?
Bippy has a video game for virtually every situation.
Not just getting your law degree.
Wait, how did you say you got your law degree?
Can't find what you're looking for?
