‐ Bailey and Kida vs. James and Harris.

We have one group that is very much hip‐hop,

we have one group that is very much contemporary.

‐ ♪ We never second guessed it ♪

♪ 'Cause we always had a vision ♪

♪ I'm a beast ♪

‐ Bailey and Kida are some

of the most sought‐after dancers

in the industry right now.

They are professional dancers

but just started dancing together.

So the only thing missing is a little more chemistry.

So why not pair them against James and Harris?

These two amateur dancers show promise,

who have the most chemistry of anyone

in the Junior Division.

‐ Bailey and Kida are coming in

with a reputation.

People know who they are,

you know, on social media.

Their musicality is just on another level.

‐ ♪ I'm a champion ♪

♪ Oh, oh‐oh ♪

‐ Here's the bad news.

We can tell that you haven't been dancing together

a long time. I can.

‐ But there's no reason

that y'all can't potentially go all the way.

‐ The judges liked our performance,

but we felt like we could've had some improvement.

‐ Mm‐hmm. ‐ In certain areas.

‐ Their main note for us was just chemistry.

‐ Yeah. ‐ Which was expected.

What do I not know about you?

Favorite food?

‐ Cucumbers.

‐ Cucumbers?

[both laugh] Oh, my God.

‐ I'm not really too nervous about anybody.

I know exactly what we're capable of

together onstage, so...

I think we can take anybody

in this competition.

There's chemistry right here. ‐ This is chemistry.

[both laugh]

‐ Bailey and Kida came into this competition

as frontrunners, but if anything

could take 'em down, it's the magic

that best friends, James and Harris,

create on stage.

♪ It's 'cause I know that I can ♪

‐ Our qualifier performance

had a very deep message to it.

And a heavier story behind it.

♪ ♪

In my freshman year of high school,

a close friend of mine had taken his life.

No matter how hard I struggled through it,

Harris is always by my side, always trying to...

lift me up.

‐ It's, it's...

It's hard. [sniffles]

I just knew I just needed to be there for James,

and made it clear that James meant...

the world to me.

And that if I didn't have James,

I wouldn't be where I am today.

[judges applauding] ‐ Yeah.

‐ You were a little bit nervous at the top.

And then I started seeing the strength of your dancing.

And that encouraged me. I was, like, "Okay."

These two could actually make an impact here.

‐ Nerves cannot get to us this time.

‐ I'm not as scared of it at all.

‐ We're so much more confident in this piece.

‐ Whoever we're dueling,

you're not ready for this heat.

‐ You ain't ready. ‐ We're ready to bring it.

And we're not scared of anybody or anything.

‐ This next piece is all about the attack,

and all about, just... [grunts]

‐ We don't seem intimidating now,

but just wait until you see us onstage.

[dramatic electronic music]

‐ If we just give it our all,

we won't have to think about going into Redemption,

and no matter who we're going against,

so that's our main focus right now

is just giving the judges a show.

‐ We want to make it through this round

and be on that "World of Dance" stage.

and executed to perfection.

‐ Of that were so powerful. ‐ Right.

‐ Like, those isolations, there, with the feet,

to watch. Well done.

a little more technical with what I'm saying.

You know what? Damn technical.

I thoroughly enjoyed that entire piece.

[Derek laughs] ‐ Yeah.

‐ From the jabs at them to the isolations

to the pink shoes. I'm‐‐I was in all the way.

I was in through the whole piece.

[cheers and applause] ‐ That was a killer routine.

That had everybody, I mean‐‐

[stammers] I got goosies. I'm not gonna lie.

‐ That was really great.

‐ Thank you. ‐ It was such a step up

from what you guys showed us the first time.

And I've seen you on Instagram, so I know what you can do,

so when you did your first audition, I was, like,

"Is that what they're gonna do together?

'Cause then that's not the thing."

‐ Yeah. ‐ But this was more...

like, I see the potential

of what you guys can do, routine‐wise,

that really can wow America.

[cheers and applause]

‐ The nuances really‐‐

It's like y'all are architects of sound.

Do you know what I mean?

Like, we could see what that music looked like

by how clearly your bodies were moving.

Now, with that, I think the challenge for y'all

if you go to the next round.

We wanna see the edge of your envelope, right?

So that's where you've kind of put yourself,

which is a great place to be.

But it's also...

it's a very, very hard place to be,

because you have to almost be working harder

than anybody else here. ‐ Right.

‐ One of my favorite parts was at the very end,

with the face, with the...[sighs]

and then, suddenly...

[laughter] ‐ Yeah.

‐ I think you guys complement each other so beautifully.

It's like a match made in Heaven,

the way you two dance together.

[cheers and applause] ‐ Thank you so much.

‐ It really is. I know you're best friends,

and, you know, we're, like, "Are you...

brothers, are you twins? What's happening?"

You're, like, "No, we're just starting to look alike."

[laughter] ‐ Yeah.

‐ It's even in your body shapes,

even though one's a little bit taller than the other,

there's just such a great dance duo here.

It's a battle.

‐ Yeah. ‐ IT's a battle!

‐ You guys are such strong dancers.

Like, there's certain moves that really, really pointed out

how much strength you guys have.

Here's my problem.

You're not dancing as strong as you are, to me.

I feel like y'all could fly across this stage

if y'all felt like it.

‐ You didn't see them fly across the stage right there?

‐ That's what I'm saying! That's what I'm saying!

They gave us a taste of it. ‐ Oh, come on.

‐ They gave us a taste of it,

but I know that there's more in there.

And I don't know where the holdback is,

or what it is, or why it is,

but it needs to cease if you guys

are gonna get to the next round.

‐ For sure. ‐ See, I feel like

Ne‐Yo is wrong. [crowd exclaims]

I think you guys were flying.

I think y'all were strong.

I think that was a great routine,

and I think that's so cool and so fresh.

It just, like, suits you guys so well.

Flying through the air,

and the artistry in the storytelling,

and the‐‐just that heart. One critique.

I think that, when you guys‐‐ in some moments,

I'm talking, like, a fraction out of sync with each other.

You know, a jump one lands just a fraction later.

And it's just those little moments

that count at this stage.

‐ And sometimes, you're perfect.

That's the thing. ‐ Yeah.

‐ You guys have amazing foundation

of, like, just great dancing.

And I think that was a great Duel,

so y'all did yourselves proud.

It was great. It was great. ‐ Thank you.

‐ First thing I thought, too, was strong.

You can fly.

You know, Ne‐Yo's not wrong.

I feel like there's a lot more there, too,

and I'm anxious to see it.

But if you don't bring it out, we'll never know.

Right? ‐ For sure.

‐ And the thing that everybody is saying to you,

to create that next level within your artistry,

which y'all already have.

You're already willing to connect

with each other and emote these feelings

that we can really feel,

but what takes us out of feeling it,

is feeling that you're not giving everything, right?

That you're so worried about being absolutely perfect

that you don't take risk, that reckless abandon

if that makes any sense. When you're almost, like,

"Oh, my God! Are they gon' land that?"

Right? Like, that's what I want to see from y'all,

because I know that you have that in you.

And I know that that's what you need

to touch that "World of Dance" stage.

‐ For sure. ‐ Yeah.

‐ There's no question that there are amazing dancers

standing in front of us right now.

You guys are super‐duper strong,

but you're holding something back.

but you might feel like you got it in the bag already,

and you can't come in here like that,

because if you do, you might get disappointed.

‐ I respect talent.

I always respect talent.

But for me, I respect hard work more.

Because I believe that hard work beats talent

when talent don't work hard.

And so, sometimes it's hard for me

to judge them, it's, like, "Ah, it's so good.

I love it. It's just, I enjoy it."

I have to remind myself, no, it's a competition.

I gotta judge this.

Fellas, I thought you guys were beautiful.

Your guys' storytelling...

your dancing's incredible. It's amazing.

‐ I've worked every fast food job imaginable.

And none of 'em for longer than two weeks.

‐ I either got fired or I quit, yeah.

‐ I worked at a jeans store when I was a teenager.

Like, before I started working.

‐ I just would dance down the aisles

too much to the music.

‐ [laughs] ‐ My first paid gig

was pantomime in England at Windsor Castle.

I was on stilts with a giant outfit.

And then I had this giant head on.

[laughter] There was, like, this wire

I put in my mouth.

And when I did this...

the eyes would blink, but they got crisscrossed somehow,

so the eyes were doing this.

So I just looked like this crazy giant.

But that was my first gig. ‐ Of course, nothing regular

for you, though.

‐ [laughing] ‐ Wow.

‐ Stand by.

‐ [laughs] Oh. ‐ All right, last one.

who just have amazing technique.

One's a little more classic.

One's a little bit more out of the box.

‐ Keagan Capps may have been a pretzel in her former life.

Her ability to infuse contortion

into her dancing makes her one of the most unique

and memorable dancers we have in this competition.

We didn't see all of what you had today.

There's something even more special there, I feel.

‐ For this piece, since I am thinking of the story

as, like, I'm fighting for Duels.

I really need to, like, portray the emotions

so the judges can see, like,

"Oh, she, like, really wants this."

‐ Maddy's background is definitely classical ballet,

but she blends it with contemporary dance.

Maddy's technique is top‐notch.

‐ There's so many opportunities for there to be

so much emotional, just, ugh!

That I didn't get.

‐ My next dance is very fierce.

It's more of my personality.

is gonna be the act that moves on to the semifinals.

‐ First of all, I feel like I need to critique you

in this position right now.

[laughter] Just holding it strong,

holding it strong, baby.

She's a professional!

I'm a professional!

[applause and laughter] New boots.

‐ During that performance, we were all, like,

felt like we needed a beret and a baguette

and maybe an almond croissant.

You took us to Paris there, for a second.

[cheers and applause] [laughs]

It was a good routine. You're a beautiful dancer.

An amazing dancer.

I love that you dance en pointe.

That was one of the things that caught me

in your first audition.

I was, like, "Okay."

You actually made it exciting.

This, to me, fell a little bit short of that.

We'll just have to wait and see.

‐ Your technique is incredible, but there's a difference

between looking at just a beautiful picture,

and then something that is, like, really compelling.

Even from the moments where you're looking front,

there was a moment when you were here,

and you were looking to the front,

but you were looking here and not at us.

Remember that you have to invite us

into your world and let us be compelled.

‐ That's a good point, tWitch, because I noticed that, too,

and I thought to myself, "Is she looking at somebody..."

‐ "Who's she looking at?" ‐ It's always about connecting

with each one of these people, who want to be entertained...

‐ Yes. Yeah. ‐ Who want to feel something.

That's why you're doing this!

[applause]

‐ You do have extraordinary technique.

It's beautiful. It's so, like,

just pleasant to watch. ‐ Effortless.

‐ And I love that this routine was more playful.

There was a few little bobbles in there I found,

you know, just, like, less supporting legs.

A little bit. ‐ Yeah. [laughs]

‐ But hey, it's okay. It was a good routine.

It was well done.

[cheers and applause] ‐ Initially, when we

first saw you, we felt you were all technique,

not enough heart.

And then we actually got to see...

a little bit of what I feel is your personality

through this one, so I'm happy about that.

I did catch the slight wobble there,

which I was actually shocked by

in that your technique is so strong.

But I definitely see the improvement. Great job.

That was so emotional.

It was‐‐it just had the ooze,

it was in, like, it's so much sauce.

There was so much kind of yumminess...

that you were doing, and your expression.

You broke my heart at one point

when you just had your leg up here,

it was just the look, and you looked through us.

And it was...awesome.
