and that, for the sake of my family, I should never return to the village.

I started to cry.

I cried a lot that day.

I cried till there was nothing left to cry,

until the sound of my own wailing became somewhat amusing.

For the longest time,

I used to think they really believed I was a demon.

And then I realized...

people believe what they want to believe.
