which I can appreciate.

I wake up in a little black box,

and I'm so groggy
and, like, disoriented,

and have to try and figure out
where in the world we're at,

where we are, like,
in terms of the venue.

I definitely have, like, vertigo
for the first few hours.

I'm excited to do some
unpleasantries here tonight.

But overall, I'm pretty chipper.

I had my coffee.

We're ready for a killer show...

metaphorically.

You wanna see the best stage
we've had yet?

Oh, look at this beauty.

Oh, God, it's so amazing.

Morgan is our new stage manager
this year,

but he also happens to be

my old assistant/partner/
also my roommate/lover.

[laughs]

Yvie and I met
over five years ago.

We actually were roommates,
and that's how we met.

And she wasn't Yvie at the time.

She had done drag before
under the alias Avon Eve,

and I like to think that Yvie
and I created Yvie together.

He was, like, the first ever
superfan I had of my drag,

when we were in Denver
going through gay puberty.

We moved in, and I was, like,

I had to come out to him as
a drag queen after a few months.

I was, like,
"Hey, I'm a drag queen."

He was, like,

"Oh, I've seen lots of, like,
terrible, shitty drag queens.

Who cares?"

And then I started
this competition back in Denver,

and in competition mode I feel
like people get to see, like,

really the best I have to offer.

And he fell in love, and we've
been partners ever since.

Like, he's literally
one half of Yvie.

We just have had so much fun
creating drag together.

And I never in a million years

would have expected it
to take us here.

I thought we were
just doing it for fun.

He's kind of like
a security blanket for me.

He's very, like,
emotionally comforting

despite how crazy he is.

All of the sudden
there was a shift,

and people just started,
like, worshipping you,

admiring you,
like, fawning over you.

Speaking of worshipping
and admiring me,

can I use your phone
to find my phone?

I just kind of, like,
mostly keep to myself,

come and do my job,
smoke pot, and leave.

I have trouble
making new friends,

and so I do chill, like,
with the other girls and stuff,

but I always feel weird.

I'm just taking my makeup off
for the show.

I always feel like either
I'm not, like, loud enough

or I'm not, like, cool enough,

or I'm not prissy enough,
or, like, literally whatever.

That's something I'm still
definitely working on,

is I always feel--
I always feel odd.

I think we all still have
our demons we work past,

no matter how many nice things

have happened to you
in your life.

Myself, always.

Always fighting, like,
being the worst critic.

I'm afraid of being annoying.

I'm afraid of being too weird.

I'm afraid of not having
anything to say.

I just feel like I don't always
have a lot to contribute.

Now that my drag
is my public persona,

I feel like I'm struggling
with finding a way

to feel, like,
confident in myself.

You're weird, you're smelly,

I love the stage
for that reason.

It's just so good at, like,
blocking everything out.

Then I get off
and I'm still myself

and I still have to, like,
walk around in the world.

[elevator bell dings]

Coming with me to do my laundry?

I mean, we probably could
if we want to.

A lot of the other girls
are a lot bossier than I am.

I don't mean that
in, like, a bad way.

That's actually, like, a skill
I need to for sure work on.

But I'm also super independent.
[laughs]

Some might say fiercely so.

I don't think I can tour
forever, unfortunately.

My body is not set up that way.

But this year specifically,
like, that's a part of reigning,

is you're supposed to go around,

you're supposed
to see all these places,

all the people who, like,
either supported you or didn't.

Essentially your kingdom,
your queendom.

So whether or not it's too much,

it's, like, kind of
what I signed up for,

and it's also
what I was excited about

when I even, like,
thought about auditioning,

is I was frustrated
because I was in Colorado

and nobody was booking me
anywhere out of state.

And so I was, like,

either I have to
pay my own way everywhere

and, like, beg for tip spots,
which I did for a while.

Or you can, like,
shoot for bigger.

I was always a really artsy,
know-it-all, brainy kid.

I did get called weird a lot
as a kid.

I just remember trying so hard

to be friends with, like,
a few kids or whatever,

and every time
I'd, like, get close to them,

they made it apparent that I was
just, like, some add-on friend.

Like, it's cool if he's here,
I guess.

I feel like
that really set me up

in terms of, like,

how I deal with my interpersonal
relationships in general.

Like, it takes a long time

for me to feel okay being myself
with other people.

Like, you still
will always have something

you have to work past
on your own.

It's nice, though, because
I do see the kind of people

that I get to touch because of
what I represented on the show

or what I represent
in the Drag Race spectrum.

I see so many people
who also feel like outsiders,

and it's, like,
the oldest fucking story

in the book of, like, oh, yeah,

I feel like I castaway
and no one understands me.

But I get what it feels like
to be that way,

even if it is literally
just you isolating yourself.

I drove an hour here
without eyelashes.

I love Yvie,
and I love that she has chosen

to paint herself green
for the entirety of the tour.

And she is an alien every day,

and she's a really awesome
new addition to the show.

Really a good person
to have on tour,

because she's, like, if you
need something, she's there.

She'll give you tape, whatever.

Yvie Oddly,
I call her Yvie Normal,

because Yvie has not done
one odd thing on this tour.

Like, I expected Yvie to be,
you know, eating live snakes

and sleeping
hanging from her feet

with her wings wrapped
around her like a vampire bat,

and there has been none of that.

I always joked about running
away and joining the circus,

and I basically have.
[laughs]

I don't know what else
I would rather be doing

while I can do everything
in the world.

It's literally making
my dreams come true.

[cheers and applause]

Yvie is lit.
She's so fearless.

She's an Area 51 alien.

Her planet is Earth.

The boys and me are the doctors,

and we're, like,
operating on her.

[cheers and applause]

And then we go off,
and Morgan is born on-stage.

I'm born
and have a duet with my mom.

After I give birth
to my alien daughter,

and she, like, grows up
and leaves the nest

and I get really lonely.

So then I go through
that, like,

that thing that,
like, parents do

when their kids
move out of the house,

where they, like,
cut their hair.

Because, like, it's a new me.

And then you realize it's
the same bitch after all.

[cheers and applause]

So only at, like, one of
the biggest shows that we had,

when everything should have
been, like, decent and perfect,

I had to make
a new closing outfit.

So I tried to, like, whip it up,

and I, like,
tested it backstage.

It worked.

I felt so bad,
just because we were in L.A.,

so all of our friends
and family were there.

[cheers and applause]

And then in the magic
of the theater,

like, when we got onstage,
I couldn't get my reveal off,

so I just started ripping it.

And that didn't work,
so I ran offstage,

and I guess a lot of tulle
was still left onstage.

Yvie's fucking
green tulle dress,

that was just, like,

like, common sense
not to wear that.

Yeah, she clearly
didn't dress-rehearse in it.

She just, like,
went off the stage,

but then, like,
left all the yards of tulle,

like, on the floor.

So I initially stopped Naomi.

[cheers and applause]

Oops. Kim, like, fell,

and then was, like,
on the ground,

and, like, oh, my God, my wig.

And then there I was
in the front, just, like...

It was bad.

You know, if there is anything
on that stage,

Kim is gonna find it,
and she's gonna go down.

Oh, poor Kim.

My instinct was to try and,
like, hold her hand, stabilize,

because that's my best friend,
that's my bitch.

And get rid of that green tulle
thing as fast as possible.

I mean, let's face it.

if you're gonna just, like,
wrap, like, shit around you,

you should have,
like, rehearsed it.

So then it threw off
the whole closing,

and everybody's like, oh,
there's Kim Chi falling again.

So then I look bad
when it wasn't even my fault.

I didn't know she fell
until later that night.

Like, I got a text
from Plastique

being, like,
"Have you apologized to Kim?"

And I was like, "What?"
[laughs]

Four other girls skipped
falling on my tulle, too,

so shit happens.

She probably hates me
forever now.

I mean, it's her fault

for, like, not rehearsing
in that outfit,

but I'm sure, like,
it's not her intention

to, like, sabotage anyone,
you know?

I'm sure she's
beating herself over it

much as, you know,
I'm mad about it.

[laughs]

Not even a little. [laughs]

So right now
I'm, like, multitasking,

packing, and trying
to think of, like,

what ballads
I can get away with doing

that won't make people
not wanna give me a dollar.

It gets hard
right after the show is over

because all you wanna do
is just, like, wipe this off

and then go take a nap,
go chill.

But I really--
I also like performing a lot,

so I'm excited to hopefully
make some people's nights,

just in case they didn't
get to see me here.

And if they did, then doubly so.

See what I can do in the same
outfit with different shit.

I don't know how
I'm getting there, though.

[laughs]

I've gotten a lot of backlash

for my overall performance
as a drag queen since the show,

because people expected
that with a title

that I would suddenly throw away

everything that I really enjoyed
about drag before this

and become, like, some weird,
polished, like, super beast

that is smiling and never
has any wrong opinions.

No, bitch, that's, like,

not what got me here
in the first place. [laughs]

I think there's a lot
of pressure for me to do well,

and for me to, like,
live up to the standards

that not only RuPaul has
and not only the show has,

but also everyone else
who's won.

I didn't actually expect to win,

so I wasn't, like--
not even I didn't expect to win.

I never thought about what it
would be like to actually win.

Winning. A winner.

Obviously I was trying to win.
That's why I signed up.

But I had never pictured
the repercussions of winning,

both good and bad.

It's just something
that once again,

my ego was like, oh, yeah,
you have to win.

You're gonna be so good,
you're gonna win it, bitch.

But, like, never pieced together
how it would feel to be there.

And I kind of
overlooked the fact

that a winner does have

a lot of responsibility
on their shoulders,

whether or not it's real
or tangible.

Ooh-ooh-ooh, bitch.

I'm popping it.

Your artistic face.

This is what we call
a costume reveal.

Shocking.

Pull a wig off,
pull a mask off,

there's a whole 'nother wig
underneath it.

I pull that off,
it's just my brain. [laughs]

And then I gave them
so much life, I slayed myself.

Then I get shipped to
the next city, where I repeat.

Rinse and repeat.

No rinse. Just repeat.

[laughs]

People in general are just
never gonna be satisfied.

I'm not probably ever
gonna be satisfied

with what I'm doing
as an artist.

[cheers and applause]

There are always going to be
people out in the world

who don't like
what you're doing.

But I also wanna make sure
that at the end of the day,

I'm still doing the drag
that makes me happy,

even if other people
might not get it.

So unfortunately,
a part of my reality is

there's always something
in the back of my head

that's asking me, like, what
are you gonna be able to do next

when you can't do your flips,
when you can't do your tricks,

when you can't even
walk around in heels?

What are you gonna do?

Right now, I feel exhausted,

and all of my bones
are hurting super bad.

[sighs]

I have a disease called
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome,

so my body doesn't produce
or retain collagen

at normal levels.

It gives me,
like, stretchy skin,

it gives me stretchy joints,

and it means I'm, like,
in a lot of pain very often.

Oof.

I can feel all of my joints,

and every step hurts.

[gasps, exhales]

Even sitting still hurts.

I just feel really heavy.

Um, my body is always,
always hurting,

but it's not always this bad.

Um...

Yeah. Can I have a drink,
please?

Oh, I'm never gonna finish
my makeup. [laughs]

I do just push through
a lot of it on the daily,

but some days
it gets really bad.

[groans]

It just pisses me off,

because I don't like feeling,
like, handicapped

or like I can't do anything.

I still really love drag.

I love performing.

I like--I love
everything about this life

except for how it feels.

[knock on door]

Tell them I said
I'm never rehearsing again.

Okay.

No, I'll be there.

No, it does not.

I know this sounds
super cynical,

because I really am grateful

for everything that
this opportunity has given me,

but, girl, I cannot wait
until they crown some other ho.

[laughs]

And then I get to focus,
at least a little bit more,

not necessarily a bunch,

but at least a little bit more
on my future

and less of the whirlwind.

You think a massage would help?

Especially
at the meet-and-greets,

we've seen--I've seen
quite a few people

wheel up to the meet-and-greet

and, you know,
none of them are super old.

All of them say,
"Hey, I have the same thing,

"and your story
inspires me so much.

It meant everything to me to be
able to come support you."

Seeing that face-to-face,

I don't know
how it affects Yvie,

but to me,
it's like a constant reminder

that this
is the inevitable future.

I mean, I feel like a writer
with writer's block,

just sitting there, like, trying
to map out some sort of future,

and I just don't know
what it is.

And eventually, I'm gonna have
to, like, pay those bills.

Eventually I'm gonna
have to feed myself,

and I don't know
what I'm gonna do yet.

That won't necessarily mean,
like, you know,

that Yvie won't perform anymore,
or won't have, like, you know,

that same vibrant,
creative excellence

that she's always had.

I think we'll just channel it
in a different way.

Are those more comfortable
than these?

And I think she'll kind of come
into sort of a mentorship role,

be like this wise, old
drag queen in a wheelchair

with, like,
really, really good advice

and, like, a really good heart

to, like, help people,
like, on their own journeys.

She brings out
the best in people.

And, like,
no matter what happens,

I'm gonna support her, so...

I'm not done yet,
I'm not defeated yet,

but... [laughs]

it is frustrating.

I feel like I'm so good
at changing everything else,

I don't know how to change,
like, the works underneath,

how I'm wired.

You just kind of
have to go with it.

You have to, like, wake up
a different person every day,

whoever you need to be
to get through it.

That's what I liked about drag
in the first place,

is I used to use it as
this escape to be somebody else.

And now I use it as,
like, a tool of survival.

Maybe that's the issue
is I don't need an escape,

I need, like, to just
figure out how to get past

whatever is holding me back.

I'm still trying
to figure it out,

so I'm gonna keep experimenting.
