rev the engine, and arrive
at our new destination.

zak: We're taking route 66

to the very haunted
grand canyon caverns.

In 1927, walter peck stumbled
upon a sinkhole

outside of peach springs,
arizona.

When he was lowered
into the hole,

he discovered a massive network
of caverns.

He also discovered skeletons

entombed there by the local
hualapai tribe.

After this episode,
I looked up information

on this walter peck guy.

There's so much more
of a story to it

that we didn't
even know about.
Really?

Yeah, the fact that he
almost fell in that hole

and then saw how deep it was
and was lowered down

and then thought
he found gold,

had the gold assayed,
but it wasn't gold.

He's like,
"what am I gonna do?"

so he wanted
to charge a quarter

for people to go down there
as an attraction.

It looked like an nsync

It's dusk, and we're here
at the grand canyon caverns,

and there's a really
ominous-type feeling.

it was a really weird vibe
when we arrived here.

Yeah, I wasn't sure
what we were investigating.
There was nobody around.

There's just weird [bleep]
laying around.

So, where's the caverns?

in the elevator

a full hotel suite,

the night

in the foreboding,
all-enshrouding darkness.

A husband and wife
spent the night.

She said 2:15 in the morning,
she started a hear

a loud moan that increased
in noise level.

Can you imagine
that you're down here

with all the lights off
in a cave,

210 feet,
and you hear that?

zak: The next cave houses
a fallout shelter

that could sustain 2,000 people
for two weeks.

Emery:
The green containers are water.

The boxes are food
and medical supplies

in 1962 due to
the cuban missile crisis.

That's from 1962?

so there's no moisture.

the moisture

Probably swell up.

They're intended to swell up
and make you feel full

so that you're not hungry
down here in the cave.

'cause the only food items
they sent

were crackers and hard candy.

It does what when it
gets in the stomach?

It swells up to make you
feel like you're full,

so you're not hungry.

in your stomach.

And then you die?
You're no longer hungry.

and then he started

some weird chemical reaction

with the yeast or something

or if it was even

a distant indian,

when they do, like, a little
chant or something.

We all heard it.

And the second we hear that,

I wanted to ask him
if he heard it.

He validated it.

zak: The bones
that walter peck discovered

were the remains
of two indigenous hualapai

whose bodies had been
ceremoniously lowered,

along with their saddles,
into the caverns.

Can you tell me where
the indians were found?

They sat right here
at this spot.

Is that just kind of a creepy
little moment we had,

just hearing
what we heard?

Yeah.
And here's where
they found the bodies.

Aaron: Oh, yeah.
They were on display here.

Zak: Peck claimed
to have discovered

the skeletons of cavemen

and sold tickets
to see the bones.

He made money
off of people's remains.

Yeah.
Like, what is that
gonna do spiritually?

Not just any human remains,
but native american remains

that were placed there
ritualistically,

if you will, like,
in a sacred way.

I mean, that alone
could cause it to be haunted.

Something about this cave
had to have been

perceived as a sacred site
to these hualapai.

Aaron: They'd been
referring to them as cavemen.

So I wonder if they took
anything, like -- not offense,

but, like, got angry, because
it wasn't a caveman.

Well, it was --
it was definitely desecration.

This is our most reported
paranormal activity,

right here in this

We head back to the entrance

to interview lyle sharman,

a licensed private investigator

who says he was nearly
seriously injured

by an unexplained thrown rock.

All of a sudden,
from over your head,

you saw a rock fly
horizontally over your head.

It didn't fall
off the ceiling?

No, absolutely
did not fall.

I mean, I watched it
go over my head like a bird.

Are you sure

There was nobody
that was in other areas.

And this came
from way a distance?

It came with a lot of force.

So, what happened if
this rock would've hit you?

That's not possible
in speaking with physics.

Rocks don't travel
horizontally

unless they're thrown
by something.

And if that hits you,
you're done.

And this led to some of
the most incredible evidence

that we've ever
collected.

And scared the crap out of us
at the same time.

the caverns are rife
with spiritual hazards,

but they're not the only
hot spot on the property.

Rumors abound about the old
aboveground bunkhouse,

where a caverns general manager
killed himself.

Lyle believes
the spirit of this man

sat next to him
on a living room couch.

Sharman:
This is the exact same couch.

Zak: This one?
Yeah.

Really?
Yeah, this is the exact couch.

The bunkhouse added
a whole other dynamic

to the investigation.

So a guy committed suicide
that used to love going there.

It was this cushion, and you
could just feel it compress.

Your mind
wasn't making it up.

You felt it compress
right next to you.

Like someone just
sitting down right next to you.

Yeah.
Oh, yeah.

We were able to find out
that he actually shot himself

in his vehicle, and we
were able to pull a copy

of that police report
and newspaper articles.
Uh-huh.

Everybody told us that this is
the place he loved to hang out.

This was his favorite place.

I don't believe that
somebody dies in one spot,

they can't go somewhere else.
Absolutely.

I just really think
that he's still here.

Lyle was a great, great resource
for the investigation

because he dug into
so much history for us,

pulled police reports
and everything,

and that's so important.

He said it was
his favorite spot.

And we've heard that before
that spirits like to congregate

in places
that they loved in life.

Zak: Chris arranaga investigated
the caverns restaurant in 2012.

Arranaga: During the course
of this investigation,

right through these double
doors right behind me

was a woman
with split braids.

Zak: What color hair?

Brown.
Brown or black hair.

of a native american indian.

And it was terrifying for me,

because when you see something
like that,

you're not expecting it.

so there's something that we've
discovered here that is --

is very special about
the grand canyon caverns --

selenite crystals.

These crystals are formed
by landlocked salt water

that has evaporated.

This whole area was
the floor of an ocean

over 300 million years ago.

These were all
underwater caves.

What is so magical about
selenite crystals?

Jay: Selenite is one of the most
powerful crystals,

when you come to
spiritual properties.

It has a higher connection

to the spiritual realm,
if you will.

I don't know
if you know this,

but I've been stashing stuff
in the theater

since we've been
doing this.

This might be

The grand canyon caverns,

has one of the highest
concentrations

of selenite crystals
throughout the entire world.

They're everywhere.
It's all over the cavern.

Native americans
actually used selenite

as one of their main
sacred crystals,

when it comes to rituals
and ceremonies.

If they're buried around
a large amount of selenite,

which they were, it's just
allowing their spirits

to free their bodies,

which can justify
why people are hearing

native american chants and
drumming and things like that.

'cause this whole land
was sacred to them.

climb the 70-year-old ladder

towards the roof of the cave,

I meet with three
hualapai elders.

This was scary, bill.

The suspension bridge
was creepy.

Something happened where
we almost died at that.

I was gonna do this,

but I just felt like
I needed to do the interview.

Just beneath
this dirt and rock is aaron

and billy, climbing
within about 20 feet

of where the two hualapai
were found.

My father told me
that this cave was here

but that nobody really knew,

and they used this

to get away from whoever was
looking for the natives.

These people were amazing.
They were so great.

The history
that they added in

to really validate what
this cave was used for,

coming from native americans
in that region,

which was very important.

Aaron: These have not been
walked on in a long time.

Look at the dust
forming on those steps.

Billy: Yeah.
They don't let people up here.

You guys are climbing
over stairs that are how old?

Do you realize
what we were walking on?
Aaron: Wood?

The u.S. Government
put that suspension bridge in

and those stairs
after they realized

that walter peck
was making money giving tours.

So they said, "we'll come in
and make it a little better,"

but then they charged
50 cents.

Zak: Do you know
why they would leave

the bodies of the two
hualapai men here

as a final resting place?

They didn't want anybody
to know that this was here.

Did you see those claw marks
in the wall.
Yeah.

I think it's from one
of those prehistoric creatures

that was clawing.

I remember someone
said that.

'cause it fell and then it was
trying to climb back up.

Something about being

in this area right now

of where the actual hualapai

What kind of repercussions

They went up in the hills,
and they got a skull.

They had it on a fence post.

They were shooting at it.

on the hotel suite.

And a lot of people
that stay here

don't make it
through the whole night.

A lot of different things
happen here,

and we're gonna try
to investigate

to see if we can find
the source.

the very first time

Although we do not capture

this white mist
moving down the walkway

that I see with my own eyes,

aaron makes an ironic discovery

in the same location
where I just saw this mist.

Aaron: Right there
is where they displayed

what they called
the cavemen.

Shouldn't have did that.

They had actually put them
on display in that spot.

As "cavemen."

it's like a sideshow.

zak: After billy initially hears
the fence rattle gently,

we all turn our attention
in that direction.

Then it suddenly rattles
very aggressively.

Billy: Whoa.
Did you hear that?
Zak: What?

The chain-link fence
over -- way over there.

Where?

Aaron: What was that?!
Over there.

-Listen.
-Hear that?

What?

Where?

I heard it move, just now.

I heard that.
I thought that was you.

That was right above you,

That was a clear,
clear, like,

somebody ran into the fencing
or something.

it would just do that.

Zak: What's especially
compelling

is that a private investigator

witnessed this phenomenon
down here, as well.

We stood back,
and you could just sit there

and watch this thing
just shake.

I now head off alone

to the exact spot
where the fence was rattling.

So now we're wondering,
you know, any geo--

seismic or what?

I don't think it's really
a seismically active area.

Well, everything else
would shake, too, if it was.

throughout this night,

It just started speeding up
instantly.

I was so into that.

Zak: Around the same time that
we hear the fence rattle,

something extremely profound
happens with jay

back at the cavern suite.

You can even hear billy, aaron,
and myself very faintly,

way in the background, reacting
to the fence rattling

as these caves carry sound
for a very long distance.

Why don't you come up here

[ rattling ]

like, what was that?
That was loud.

What?
Right?

Zak: When we spoke with
the grand canyon caverns staff,

they told us that rocks
do not fall from the ceiling.

And when you listen
to the audio of this rock,

you can clearly hear it
skipping along the walkway

before it hits
the short, wooden wall

of the room where jay
is sitting,

as if something threw the rock
horizontally towards jay,

making him absolutely frozen
with fear.

What were you thinking
at that point?

Look. I can't move.
I was just waiting.

We were like a quarter mile,
like, in the cave.

Now, is that something
being thrown,

or is it something falling
from the ceiling of the cave?

That was
our biggest question.

And were you
thinking that, too?

I mean, I was in shock,
obviously.

That was a lot of --

but what was weird to me
was that

it was right
when I invited.

I was like,
"come sit with me."

and right away
that happened.

Trying to throw rocks
at me?

as I conduct an evp session,

trying to see if a spirit
shook this fence,

we make a remarkable discovery
during live playback.

at the same exact time
that I capture this evp,

I feel a cloud of electric
energy all around me,

and I wonder if this evp
is spoken

in a native american language.

That happens a lot
when you capture, like, an evp.

If that spirit is right
in front of you talking,

you're going to feel it

And it will come across
as a static-energy-type field.

continue to walk around this
massive, never-ending cave,

investigating as much
as we physically can.

But things actually start
to calm down for us

until we finally get closer
to jay

and start to hear him
calling for us.

aiming those rocks at us.

But billy, aaron, and myself
do not witness any thrown rocks

like jay experienced earlier.

I now begin using
a full-spectrum still camera

that has the ability to light
up the entire pitch-black cave

through extended exposures.

Because this seems
like a hot spot,

I'm hoping to capture a visual
image of a spirit.

But, unfortunately,
that doesn't happen.

The extreme dryness
this cave is known for

has taken a toll on us,
so we decide to take a break

and head to ground level

in order to re-energize
and rehydrate

for the next phase
of our investigation.

But before we make it
out of the caverns,

something happens that shakes
us all to our very cores.

that this rock was thrown

We can't rule out
that it fell from the ceiling.

However, the staff there
tells us

that rocks do not fly
from the ceiling.

The temperature in this cave

stays a consistent 56 degrees

so there is no explanation for
this sudden draft of cold air.

That is wind.

on as many lights as we can

in order to examine the walls
and ceiling

to see if this rock
could have fallen.

And right as this further
analysis begins,

we capture a very strange
yellow anomaly

as it enters frame.

That was weird.

This light went, whoosh,
right by you and shot --

it was a weird light.

Zak: And remember,
there are no living organisms

that can sustain life
in this cavern,

which means absolutely
no flying insects.

way back up to ground level

to call ben, who works here
at the grand canyon caverns,

to ask him about this rock.

So at this point,
we are believers

that the grand canyon caverns
are extremely haunted.

We were hearing rocks
down there being thrown.

And we even found one laying
in the center of the path

by the hotel room suite.

No seismic activity in that
cave in over 1,200 years.

They do not fall off
from the ceiling?

with this spirit.

where others have felt this man

So at this point,
we're not getting any voices

coming through the spirit box.

But then I see
something out the window.

a red light.

As I get up to investigate

the area just off camera

where I see this red light,

I realize that it's actually

right before it disappears
behind my left leg.

Very unusual
to be down there.

Right.
You can see it's
in pitch black,

which means that there's no
I.R. Light down there at all.

So it's nothing that is
reflecting our I.R. Light.

It's something that is
generating its own light source.

I have seen things going
across the room here, aaron.

And I had ice-cold sensation
on my left side.

The red light that I saw

I debunked as a radio tower
out there.

But those other things
were interesting,

so we're gonna leave

and see if you can give us
a message through there.

To me it's something
that you may look as so simple

and not a huge piece
of evidence.

But to me, that is one of
the best pieces of evidence,

that we captured

While the energy

inside of the bunkhouse

are a complete contrast
to the malicious

subterranean world
of the grand canyon caverns,

we will never forget
the shock and terror

of having large, jagged rocks
hurled at us

by an unseen force.
