This was great.

He was stealing
or from all the mines.

No, I didn't.

Zak: We have seen things
that defy explanation,

experiencing the best...

God, that was awesome, dude.
That was so awesome.

These dolls are gonna
[bleep] take our souls.

...Of the places between worlds.

I want the portals
of this forest wide open.

Zak:
Now it's time to look back.

One of my scariest nightmares
that we are about to relive.

For the first time ever,

I'm inviting you, the audience,
into my inner sanctum.

Together,
we will pull back the curtain

on the biggest, scariest,
and funniest moments

from our investigations.

every single episode, hoping.

It's okay. I like when jay
wears his hair.

so, what are we watching
tonight?

"return to tombstone" is

probably one of my top five
favorite intros.

Why was it so fun?

Because we got to be like
we were in the wild west movie.

and let me tell you something,
everybody at home.

We don't plan
any of this stuff.

I thought of this
like a couple hours

before we did this.

Can I say one thing?

I'm the best-looking
cowboy there.

I think we're a
tough-looking group.

Hey, there, boys.
Good to see you again.

Thought we told you boys
to get out of town.

Only ghost around here
is about to be you.

Is this a joke,
marshall?

So, look,
I just came up with this.

I told everybody
what to say.

We literally grabbed
these re-enactors.

And you know what?
It turned out pretty damn good!

[ laughter ]

man: There's not gonna be
a problem.

Zak: That's what I thought.

I don't know about you,

but "tombstone" is one of
my favorite movies.

So to actually act it out
and be there in tombstone...

Yeah, but you know what?

Acting it out there in tombstone
in the streets...
Yeah.

Even though we are
acting this out,

it felt really,
really real.

It did. That was
the cool part about it.

Like, we weren't
really acting.

Zak: We were first called
to this iconic location in 2009

to investigate hauntings
at the famous bird cage theater.

The bird cage theater,
in my opinion,

is one of the most incredible
western mining-town locations

that we've ever
investigated.

And it has so many artifacts
that are original

from the time period.

This time around,
our investigation is focused on

a saloon just down the street
called big nose kate's.

Why do you think they
called her big nose kate?

She probably had
a big nose.
Really?

Oh.
You know what I mean?

Yeah.
It makes sense.

That's a good point.

She's probably nice.
[ laughs ]

zak: But before we begin
that investigation,

we need to stop
by the bird cage theater

out of respect for our
old friend leroy colomy,

who tragically lost his life
in a most ironic way.

Zak: This is a little bit
of a sad moment.

It is.
Mm-hmm.

Zak: Leroy was in our original
bird cage theater episode.

He was a great character.

He was a great guy.

And he was one of the
gunslingers out in the street

that did the -- re-enactors
and the gunfight stuff.

Yeah, he was a classic character
in figure of "tombstone."

but this just goes to show you
that the days of, what,

the lawless wild west
and "tombstone" are over?

They're not.

I saw the news
about leroy.

Are we able to talk
about that at all?

No, because they're still under
investigation, a lot of it.

I mean, it was still fresh.
Like, it just happened.

Yeah, it just happened.
Wow, you guys.

I kind of forgot that that
was that recent that leroy died.

He was shot and killed.
Yeah.

We just are waiting
for it to all go to trial.

So we don't really talk
about it too much.

It was a sad thing.

This was a friend of his,
and he was really emotional

when I tried to talk
to him about leroy.

This was really sad.
This really upset me.

There is a piece
of evidence

that I want to talk about
right now because we missed it.

And it was when aaron crawled
underneath a black maria,

the stagecoach that hauled
all the dead bodies

off to boot hill cemetery.

Oh, my god,
that is a classic scene...

Aaron: [ laughing ] god.
...The black maria.

Damn, I want to buy that so bad.

Holy [bleep].

Oh, my god. Something just
grabbed my [bleep] shirt.

Zak: Look closely
at the red arrow.

Just as aaron feels
a tug on his shirt,

a white, mist-like apparition
moves away from him.

It even has, like -- it looks
like an arm or something.

Wonder what it was.

Wonder what it was?
It was an apparition.

Because this is the return
to tombstone,

we're gonna interview a bunch
of different people this time

and see what their
experiences have been

since we've been here last.

Zak: First up is longtime
bird cage theater employee

darba jo butler,

who apparently was in
the first "tombstone" episode.

Do y'all remember when I fell
down the stairs, or no?

No.

That's when you were
doing a reenactment for us

when we were here
five years ago, that happened.

Correct.

That is actual footage of her
falling down the stairs,

feeling something push her,
and I didn't even know that.

Zak: What happened?

Well, leroy was at the top,
and I said, "leroy."

when I got to the bottom,
he said, "I didn't touch you."

I said, "no,
but somebody caught me."

really?
Mm-hmm.

Not a scratch on me.

You felt somebody help,
like, catch you at the bottom?

Holding me right down here
at the end of the stairs.

So, do you think somebody
saved you on the way down?

Oh, absolutely. Uh-huh.

I've got a lot of friends
in this building.

That could have been
a deadly fall.

So it's like our return
to tombstone

is just all about updates
at this point and revelations.

Zak: The many spirits who
inhabit the bird cage theater

often interact
with its employees.

I was quite a skeptic
when I first started here.

Zak: But years of photo evidence
and the voices he often hears

have convinced
tour guide dean dougherty

that the place
is indeed haunted,

especially since his most recent
experience with physical touch.

I had a microphone, and I was
talking to a roomful of people.

Something, from behind me,

grabbed me on my
left shoulder right here.

Well, ladies, that were
working here asked me,

"what happened there?

You, like, turned really white
as a sheet there for a minute."

zak: I love the way
this guy talks.

He's great.
Yeah, he's cool.

[ southern accent ] "well, I was
quite a skeptic there, but"...

[ normal voice ] he's great.
I ain't making fun of him.

I love his accent.

Nobody, please,
from tombstone, come after me.

What you're saying
is absolute truth,

because I was here
and I experienced it, as well.

I just felt something
touch me in this area here.

Zak: Have you ever felt
any touch here?

Every day for the last
three years.

So, this is an
interesting interview.

I mean, when I have to prepare
to interview a woman

about being...

All: Touched.
Right.

In those areas
that are very private.

But it happened to me,
as well.

Zak: Patricia kolsky has been
guiding ghost tours

at the bird cage
for the last three years.

And while her interactions with
the spirits here are abundant,

a more recent experience
she had was definitely a first

and eerily similar to mine.

Honestly, I had just
got done telling somebody

that there is probably
nothing they can do

that will surprise me anymore,
and boy, was I wrong.

I was in a long skirt
that day.

A hand was on
the inside of the skirt,

and it went
all the way up my leg.

In the five years
between our visits,

not much has changed here
at the bird cage theater.

For that matter,
not much has changed here

since the late 1800s.

And that's why this location
is so intriguing.

Going here to
the bird cage theater,

there's just the wild west,

these mining towns,
these buildings.

I just love being in them.

-Yeah.
-Me, too.

It takes all my anxiety away,
all my stress.

I just --
I love being there.

That's the original mirror,
still there, from the 1800s.

It hasn't moved.

You can look through the same
mirrors that have been

hanging here since 1881.

And look through.

And instead of seeing
your own reflection,

you may see one of these spirits
that were down here

playing poker
in the late 1800s,

looking in the same exact mirror
that you can look into.

Was it the first time we went
there, we played poker?

Yes.
Yeah.

That was the most amazing
experience, to sit there.

Zak: As paranormal
investigators,

we strive to walk in
the footsteps of the spirits

we hope to contact,

which is much easier
to do in a place like this,

it's just a whole other world,
and yes, we're wearing costume,

but you know what?

I like being a part
of the environment.

And wearing that,
I did feel more a part of it.

Well, you look familiar
to the spirits.
What's it called?

Cosplay?
When you become the character.

Us wearing that, the spirits --
we look familiar to them.

It kind of helps you connect
with the energy there.

Well, I could be wearing
a handkerchief

that one of the opposing gangs
doesn't like.

I mean, you think about
current gangs and colors.

I mean, it was just like that.

Something about these towns
is these guys were so tough.

Death couldn't even
take their spirits.

There was a saying
that leroy used to say.

I'll let him say it.
Leroy, say what you used to say.

This is a town
too tough to die.
Yeah.

Or too tough to die in.

Rest in peace, leroy.
Rest in peace, my friend.

okay, right now, we're heading
to our second location

that we're gonna be
investigating here

in our return
to tombstone.

This location,
we never investigated

when we were here
five years ago, billy.

This place is called
big nose kate's.

There's a connection
with big nose kate's

and the bird cage theater.

These were the only two bars
in tombstone

to survive
the fire of 1882.

Whenever I visit
these places, you know,

what's really weird
is I get really sad

because I want to go back
in time so bad

that I'm just --
I'm in those buildings,

and I'm imagining all the people
from the other life

and just knowing
that they're all dead

and how we're here
for just the limited time

and then we're just gone.

Like, that whole era of time,
they're all gone.

All of them are dead.

Do you think you've, maybe,
had a past life?

100 percent. Absolutely.

Zak: In may of that year,

a fire ripped
through downtown tombstone,

destroying a large portion
of the business district.

Incredibly, the bird cage
theater survived the blaze,

as well as the entire bar area
of the grand hotel --

at that time, the most opulent
building in tombstone

and the place where
the clanton mclaury gang

stayed the night before they met
their fate at the o.K. Corral.

This spot is where
big nose kate's saloon

currently stands.

My closest way of of being
able to transport back in time

to be living in that era
is to be doing what we're doing

to make contact with the people
that lived in that time.

I love it.
The closest to time travel
you can get.

And that's what escapes me
from the reality of now

and this present day that
I didn't choose to be born in.

I belong back back in the day.
I don't belong in this time.

Zak: When the grand hotel
was in operation,

I was a guy they nicknamed
the swamper.

He was, like, a strange,
like, subterranean-dwelling man.

This place has
a spiral staircase

that goes down into a basement.

The place that he actually lived

is apparently still down
in the basement, okay?

Now, the reason why this
place has called us

is because many people

have experienced hauntings
down where he lived.

This was great.
Such a cool story.

Wasn't there, like,
a hole in the ground

or a well or something?

Yeah, the original well.

He was stealing ore
from all the mines.

He dug down his own little hole
and would sneak in there --

yeah, the swamper, right?
Yeah, the swamper.

He'd steal the ore.

So smart. [ laughs ]
right?

That's a good thing
to try.

Right now, I'm standing
in the actual place

where the swamper lived.

♪♪

zak: What was up with
this guy, the swamper?

Like, this is just
really weird.

It was his private domain.

No one entered
his domain but himself.

So when he was doing
his own diggings,

no one paid attention
to him.

So nobody knew that he was
digging into the silver mines?

No, not until he didn't
show up for work for a few days.

They thought maybe he was ill or
something, went looking for him,

and that's when
they discovered his diggings.

Hey, the guy that played
the swamper,

do you remember
where we found him?

No.

We were, like, getting
a drink or something in town

after the shoot or whatever.

And we saw him, and we go,
"hey, ask that guy."

he's, like, perfect look.
He was just a local, I think.

So, was the swamper
extracting silver ore

out of the mine shafts?

Legend has it that he was.

Do we know how
the swamper died?

There was many,
many theories on it,

some that said
that he left town.

Others says that the miners kind
of permanently took care of him.

Some say that the miners
killed him...
Mm-hmm.

...In one of his own
mine tunnels?

Yes.

Just about two weeks ago,
I was walking down the hallway.

Somebody walked up
and grabbed me

by the back of my vest
and pulled me backwards.

Here's one of these guys.
He is a real tough guy here.

And this guy, even, was scared
[bleep] from what he felt.

Didn't you leave me
alone down here?

-Probably. [ laughs ]
-god.

Zak: With our initial
investigation complete,

we get ready to lockdown
at big nose kate's.

Unfortunately, an unforeseen
development changes our plans.

We're just getting ready
to investigate big nose kate's,

and just as we're getting ready
to get locked in...

Aaron: Right.
...Somebody has a heart attack.

And I don't know if he
died or not.

But it's that kind of
a weird intervention...
Very weird.

...Of interrupting,
interfering.

How many times has that
happened to us? All the time.

Oh, right.
This part is crazy.

Zak: At this time,
we decide to change plans

and begin our lockdown
at the bird cage theater.

But spirits, especially here,
tend not to follow plans.

Right now, billy and patricia,
that we interviewed yesterday,

are back in the office,

and apparently,
something happened to patricia

and some crazy activity's
going on.

So we're having delays, at this
time, starting our lockdown.

Now she's all razzled by
something that just happened.

Zak:
So, what's going on?

I mean, we interviewed
you guys yesterday,

and, like,
what's going on?

Patricia:
I don't know what the spirits
were trying to get across,

whether they were angry.

They made sounds, would not stop
touching me, which is weird

'cause I usually
only get maybe one or two.

Where did you get touched,
patricia?

They --
really?

Yeah.

I mean, come on. You die.
You cross over as a spirit.

You got the
invisible cloak on.

You're no cowboy.
[ laughs ] what are you saying?

[ laughter ]

use your imagination.

Everybody in this room
knows that this place

is insanely haunted.

And so can you
help us out tonight?

Mm-hmm.

What if -- actually,
I got another idea.

What if we took ashley?

Ashley is our
still photographer.

And during investigation nights,
she'll hang out and help us

set up nerve center,
everything like that.

So if she's getting touched

and things are happening
around her right now,

why would I let her
leave the location?

Billy: Right.
Jay: It makes sense.

That'd be like fishing
and having a really good lure

and catch a fish and then
throw it back in the box.

Keep using the lure,
you know?
Zak: Right, exactly.

We've never really asked
ash to come into a lockdown

before, ever,
or investigate.

And I just want to see
if we can --

'cause she was doing
a reenactment with a dress,

and I think she
still has the dress.

Zak: So, ashley,
what I want to do is

have you put on a floozy dress,
too, go in here with her,

and I want to see if you
can get groped, too.

Okay. [ laughs ]

that's the technical term --

Tombstone episode, you guys just
put on cowboy hats.

you know, it's it's a little

zak: Just as we are getting
ready to start

our second investigation
at the bird cage theater,

our audio/video tech
jay wasley begins hearing loud,

disembodied voices
coming from inside.

You hear, like,
some singing or moaning?

♪♪

[ tapping ]

this was exciting.
We're like, "holy [bleep]."

zak: Oh, I think
we debunked this.
Yeah.

But at first, it was like,
"oh, my god."

it sounded like
screaming.

Billy: It was moaning.

Oh, god, it was moaning.

It sounded like,
I don't know, people having sex.

Which is kind of funny
when you find out what it is.

What am I listening to?
Your mic?

My mic. It's right there
on the stage.

You can see it
right there.

Okay, hold on.

Zak: As aaron and I head off
to investigate these voices,

we make a surprising discovery.

Aaron: What is it?

It was a bar next door --
somebody singing.
Karaoke!

Karaoke. [ laughs ]
oh, my god.

It was some girl
singing karaoke.

If you're watching this
right now, sorry that

we mistaken your singing for the
worst horrible wailing

and crying
that we've ever heard.

Zak: So what we think is
the spirit of someone

dying in the bird cage theater

is actually just
a horrible karaoke singer.

♪♪

actually, when we were
on this shoot,

I think we went to a bar

and I tried doing karaoke of
"the man in black" --

johnny cash.

And halfway through it,
I got so embarrassed.

You just set the microphone down
and walked away. [ laughs ]

I don't remember that.

♪ I got a friend ♪

then I was like, "damn, I sound
better in my shower."

showers and cars are
the best place to sing.

Everyone sounds good.
[ laughs ]

it was horrible.

♪♪

zak: Okay, right now,
we're getting ready

to start our investigation
officially,

our second investigation
five years later

at the bird cage theater.

And with this investigation,

we brought with us
some experiments.

What am I doing?
[ billy laughs ]

jay: We ran the music
through the victrola.

Played saloon music
through the victrola.

I don't even remember that.

Zak: This first experiment,
we have two ladies

that are going to be
our trigger object.

One is patricia,
who works here,

who gets touched here
all the time

and last night got groped.

Ashley, you work for us,
as our still photographer.

We are going to use
this old victrola,

and we actually have
the victrola set up

to some old, 1800s-style
saloon music.

So we're gonna see
if this can connect

with the spirits in here.

Patricia: Okay, everyone,
I don't normally do this,

but tonight is your night.

You get to do whatever you want,
and no one's gonna yell at you.

Okay, so, this is
interesting here.

This isn't the first time
that we've used other people

to try to elicit bait.

There's no rules.
[ chuckles ]

absolutely none.
I may be here tonight.

I know I said I wasn't gonna be,
but here I am.

And you get to do
whatever you want.

I even brought you
a gift.

New friend.
She's been paid. She's new.

She just got
hired on, and...

She's been paid for tonight,
so she's yours.

Zak: Okay, I'm gonna
play the music.

Ashley, if you
get uncomfortable...

Zak: It's time to play
the old saloon music

and just observe through our
structured light sensor camera,

our thermal camera,
our full-spectrum camera,

which I will be taking
still photos with,

and our night-vision cameras.

[ saloon music plays ]

zak: Whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa, whoa!

-What do you see?
-Holy [bleep].

At this moment,
I remember seeing an anomaly

flying through the air
over there...

Billy: Yes.
...With my own eyes.

And I got so damn excited
about it.

Did you guys not see that?
See what?

There was a ball of light.

[bleep]. Damn it!
I was on still.

Zak: Right now, I'm angry

because through the viewfinder
of the full-spectrum camera,

I see a huge light anomaly
floating towards the ladies,

and in a panic,
I start snapping photos

because the camera
is set to still mode.

And I tried
rolling video on it,

but it took it took
a still of it.

But I thought I was
on video with it.

It took a couple
stills, right?

Yeah, I remember
a couple of spots.
Like a sequence of stills?

Zak: Thankfully, though,
my quick fingers are able

to capture four solid frames
of this anomaly.

In this first photo,
you can see the anomaly

at the top of the screen
just above the ladies.

It was an orb of light
flying around.

Seeing with my own eyes.
Jay: There it is, yeah.

Zak: Then, in the second photo,

it appears to shoot downwards
towards patricia.

After this,

in the moment where I wasn't
able to capture the anomaly,

patricia appears to have some
type of reaction to something.

And in this third photo,

you can see that
the anomaly has changed shape.

You can see it traveling there.

It's like --
changes its size.

You've got big.
And then it went down.

And here is the final
still image

in which I was able
to capture the anomaly.

We debunk this as not being
any type of flying insect

because the anomaly
isn't visible

on any of the other devices,

including our
night-vision cameras.

It is only visible in the
ultraviolet spectrum of light,

which we cannot see
with our own eyes.

This is making me really want
to go back here.
I know.

I know some you guys
don't like return episodes,

but I do 'cause this story,

it just adds another chapter
to the story, the book.

In some locations,
there's just so much you can do.

It's just one visit
isn't enough.

I have to go back here.

our stature changes

when we have
the outfit on?

Like, the shoulders
come out.

And we did
back-to-back outfits

'cause we did goldfield,
right?

[ music stops ]

yeah, that was weird.
Oh, the music stopped.

That thing was on loop
on a playlist.

It shouldn't have stopped,
and it just stopped.

Zak: You like what
I brought you?

You want me
to take them away?

You like me being
around them?

So tell us what you
were just saying.

While you were talking
about being touched

is when I saw that
ball of light.
Mm-hmm.

Zak: Patricia tells me
that when the ball of light

was hovering above them,
she was discussing

how she has been touched here
by a spirit.

The ball of light was
really interesting to me.

Yeah, just to see it travel
and change shape.

Yeah.
It's really cool.

Would have been great
if you had it on video.

[ laughs ]

with her by yourself first?

If she's okay with it.

For a few minutes.

So, right there, you see her
actually going -- lookit.

The problem is,
is that we couldn't see

the right side of her
to see if her right arm --

we do.
We have another
camera, though.

Zak: We are going to sync up
this camera angle and zoom in

to where you can see the other
half of patricia's torso.

At the same exact moment that
her hair gets flipped this way,

her right arm is holding
on to the cabinet.

It is only once she notices
the ghost playing with her hair

that she touches her hair here,
causing it to bunch upwards.

Look, it's not even --
she's holding down.

That's insane!

It almost looks
like someone

just went like that
on the back of her hair.

That is why we need to do
a return here for a third time.

I'm serious, you guys.

-I'm down.
-I'm serious.

Watching this again
is making me want to go back

for a third time.
100 percent.

-Aaron, you ready?
-I'm ready.

Zak:
To make things even creepier,

our full-spectrum camera,
which is now running on video

back in the main stage room,

captures something
unsettling yet profound.

Whoa, look at that.

Billy: Yeah,
that dark shadow passes.

That's in
the casino area.

Damn. This is a really
good investigation.

I told you,
we got crazy evidence.

Zak: A dark shadow figure
can be seen passing

in front of the dice table

as if it is walking
from left to right.

And once again,
this visual evidence

is only seen through the purple
ultraviolet-light spectrum.

Did you feel anything
hit your hair?

I thought I did, but I didn't
know if it was just me

or if I caught it
on something.

Right, 'cause it was
laying there.

We just saw it go up,
you know,

like someone grabbed it
and pushed it.
Mm.

I felt something.
I just didn't know what it was.

I didn't want to react
to something if it was nothing.

Right.

To have the other camera
angle validate

that she didn't do that.
What her other hand
was doing, yeah.

She was down on the post
with her hand.

Like, that is...

Without that, though,
I would have been very suspect.

But the fact that we had that
other camera angle proves it.

That seals the deal.
It's not her.

There's somebody in here
tonight who's not normally here

because they don't
do that to me.

They don't make me sick.

I had to hold on

to something the whole time
I was on the backstage.

I couldn't move around.
They don't do that to me, ever.

I've never felt like that
in this building, ever.

You can see she's genuinely
being affected.

I mean, we picked it apart

as best as we could
to try to debunk it,

but thankfully,
that other camera angle

validated that for us.

Zak: It is now time
for aaron and I

to head inside by ourselves
in order to call the spirit out.

Zak: You ready?
Aaron: Ready.
