I'm scared.

We're from Phoenix, Arizona.

We've been together ten years, married over eight.

I have two children from my previous marriage, 14 and 12.

Umi and Dale, and we have one together,

a seven year old, Valeria. The diva.

[ Laughs ]

I am a pediatrician, specializing in intensive care.

I do relationship and dating coaching.

The view is incredible. I love this.

Oh, my God. It's the best view we've had this entire trip.

The best view this entire time.

Through my life I've been a very intense

kind of go getter kind of person,

success oriented, and you have been very family oriented.

We've been very good for each other. Yes.

Kind of teaching me

there's things in life that are way more important.

And we don't really take life too seriously

because we're in a lot of very serious situations all the time.

I have been in love with Costa Rica for almost 15 years.

We've been here a few times together

and it's just a place where we feel like it's home.

We get to just relax, do stuff like this all the time.

We hope to transition our home here

probably within the next five or six years.

As soon as our two older kids go to college

and they don't need us quite as much.

We hope that we can slow down a little bit more.

So this seems like a perfect home base for that.

NARRATOR: Costa Rica lies in the southern end of Central America,

between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

One of the country's most desirable areas

In the States and in Canada people are running

and going and always on the move.

And it's kind of a hectic lifestyle.

we need ideally three bedrooms. Okay.

We'd love to just be on the beach.

close to all the amenities and grocery stores.

Schools for the kids. Schools for the kids.

Yes. Tell me about the range.

When we walk in and the entire back wall is just all windows.

Its like you're part of the ocean.

And then once we turn in here,

even from the pool area you have a spectacular sunset,

a spectacular ocean view. It's quite incredible.

What we gonna see, what is this condo?

We've been thinking about moving to Costa Rica,

mainly because we're just completely happy here.

All of the things about life that we like

without having to work all the time and be stressed.

It's something that any medical family kind of understands.

We've kind of always thought

there had to be an exit strategy.

Just getting to actually enjoy everything

that we've worked for.

Without having to try to go, go, go all the time.

You can do it. Can I do it?

I'm very active oriented.

I like rock climbing and hiking,

and you like to watch me do that.

I like to watch him do all those things, yes.

I'm very Costa Rican at heart. The pura vida spirit is in me.

so I think it could work.

I think being able to pick the fruit right off the trees

is one of my favorite things.

Be nice to have our daughter grow up

somewhere where it's a little bit different

then the United States. She can learn Spanish

to see the other part of where she came from.

We're going to have to wash our hands in the ocean.

Our biggest dream is to have a healthy

and happy next era of our life,

in a place where we're relaxed and comfortable

and can really enjoy it.

And I would just like to not have to clean a giant house

all the time.

We can add so many shells to your collection

Okay, and then the price, beachfront was in the middle.

Had a fantastic view. The Jacuzzi was good.

Had the bedrooms. All right.

Now, the other thing that was pretty spectacular,

the split level floor plans. Ah, incredible.

The kids on a completely different level than us.

And blue roofs had the best price, which I liked.

That's true. I didn't like the area as much

and it was too far.

And the condo with the view of Playa Flamingo.

Got ya. Three bedrooms. This one did not.

Did not.

The two bathrooms, so that's a plus.

Really loved the Flamingo area.

The views from there were amazing.

And the last thing is priced the most expensive, the high rise.

Which one did you feel was home right when you walked in?

I felt totally at home in the beachfront.

The death stairs.

That's the area that the kids would be in,

so I never have to go in there. And I don't mind them.

Will you promise to change all the bedding in that condo?

Sure. It's a little bit of a hard choice, but...

The beachfront has the most shells.

We have decided to buy a Costa Rica house.

Our new home absolutely fits us.

It's perfect for us, and we have this amazing beach,

you know, as our backyard, so.

Yeah, we've been talking about downsizing for a long time,

but this is the exact perfect size for us.

Yeah, the fruit is definitely better out here.

The loft area adds some character to the condo,

and the kids love them.

I just try not to go up and down too much.
