I'm finishing up a European tour

I'm on the metro.

The train pulls into
Pere-Lachaise.

That's the big cemetery.

And I started hearing
Jake Lion's voice.

Loud,

clear,

and live.

And I knew that voice.

It gave me goosebumps.

There was no mistaking it.
It was Jake.

So, you saw a ghost.

Shit like that happens
all the time,

especially when
you are high enough.

I've been sober for 20 years.

And I knew Jake Lion
better than anyone.

But why you didn't
go back to see him?

I did go back the next morning.

Couldn't find him.

Then we left Paris.

someone who wanted to be him

or an imitator.

he was a little more miserable

But he was a sweet guy.

Before she sang with the E-Street Band,

she sang backup in Jake's band
for quite a while.

But he just disappeared

becoming really successful.

but he'd done all the hard work.

comfortable to him.

really comfortable with it.

when he was with his audience.

I have my struggles with it.

I felt our band was good enough
that we deserved an audience.

I followed that path.

it was a lot easier for me

than it was for Jake.

Jake's, whatever his
inner demons were,

he was a lot more ambivalent

about the kind of success
he was able to have.
