I'm innocent!

We caught you red-handed. How dare you deny it?

How dare you do such a thing

in King Peng Cheng's mansion?

No one can save you now.

Let's see what will happen to you

if we hand you over to the Ministry of Justice.

Take her away.

Where has Lady Shen,

gone to?

Why did she...

I don't know either.

I didn't see her go out.

Lady Shen!

Lady Shen, you're back!

You're back!

Are you all right?

You haven't fully recovered.

You shouldn't be running around.

That's right.

If there's anything,

just send Xiao Xin

and me to do it.

That's right.

Don't worry.

I'm fine.

But as for you,

you should nurse yourselves back to health.

Come.

Take a seat first.

Let me tell you something.

Previously,

someone slipped poison

into my Yufu Cream.

But I found out.

As long as I stop using it,

I'll be fine.

What about the Yufu Cream

that we applied for you?

Don't worry.

I'm a smart person.

I've seen through it.

So I have swapped the cream beforehand.

Who would be so evil to do such a thing?

This person should be executed!

Don't worry.

Princess Consort Xie

will take care of this.

I already found out

the things that both of you

The Song of Glory

have done for me.

In the future,

don't do such silly things again

for me.

You hear me?

Episode 20

I'm not from a well-to-do family.

Both of you have been with me.

You've suffered a lot.

We're not afraid!

As long as you don't mind,

we'll be with you forever.

All right.

Well, from now on,

we'll be a family.

We'll be sisters.

No matter what we encounter,

no matter the hardships,

we have to live well.

Yes, Lady Shen!

Call me sister.

Yes, sister!

Wang Residence

Sister Zijin.

You're home now.

Sir.

Get down.

Feng.

Go and tell your brother.

I, Wang Zijin,

is destined to be his woman.

It doesn't if my father agrees or not.

Besides him,

I'll not marry anyone.

Sister Zijin.

You hear me?

Go back now.

Close the door!

Anyone

who dares to let her out again

will be punished severely.

Yes.

Yes.

If there's anyone you should punish

it should be me alone.

It has nothing to do with them.

You can lock me in for now.

But can you do that forever?

Why are you completely indifferent

to my considerable efforts?

All you care about is what you expect of me

but you never care what I want.

Open the door!

We didn't defect!

Open the door! We didn't defect!

Open up! Hurry!

Open the door!

Open the door!

We're not rebels!

We're not rebels!

We're not rebels!

General.

Are you still thinking about Feng and Zijin?

If it wasn't for that incident,

my brother wouldn't be holding a grudge.

Both the kids are now suffering the consequences.

As a general,

you have your duty.

As for that incident,

you didn't let your people down.

Perhaps

in the near future

Master Wang will understand.

I can only hope so.

I don't want

our past

to ruin the children's happiness.

Brother.

It's pouring.

Why are you still on duty?

It's all right.

Keep patrolling.

-I'll catch up with you. -Yes.

Have you sent Zijin

back safely?

Don't worry. It's me you're talking about.

That's great then.

What's the matter?

Are you regretting

not taking my advice

to elope with Sister Zijin?

It was burning love this morning.

After being lectured by father,

it all died down?

I think

love is trouble.

No matter the obstacles,

I will not waver.

I have a place in Zijin's heart.

And she'll always

be in my heart.

Till death do us part.

The power of love is great.

It made a blockhead like you

to say those things.

It's just so sad and touching.

Go away.

When you meet

someone you like

you'll understand.

I'm not going to make my life so miserable

for a woman.

I'm happy being all by myself.

Free and unrestrained.

Don't act tough.

You don't get to make the call

when it comes to love.

All right now.

Go back.

Otherwise,

Uncle Zheng won't let you in the house.

Are you chasing me away?

I want to be on night duty with you.

All right.

Let's go then.

Xuan, if you're busy,

you don't have to come

and visit me every day.

Everything

is fine.

Visiting Royal Mother

is what I should do.

The incense

smells different.

This is Tianzhu agarwood incense.

Your Fourth Brother said it's from the palace.

It's very rare.

He said it helps to calm the nerves.

Things from the palace

are indeed some good stuff.

Keep it.

Xuan.

Please help me take a look.

This is the charter

for your Fourth Brother to take in a secondary consort.

It seems fine.

I'm afraid it's too grand.

People might talk about it.

No matter the great achievements the Shen family has made,

they're still commoners after all.

Besides,

there's Princess Consort Xie.

Royal Mother.

As long as it's for the good of the nation,

there's no need to quibble over it.

I don't know much

about the court's affairs.

if you think it's necessary,

so it is then.

Her Highness is here!

Royal Mother.

Anything?

Someone slipped poison

into Lady Shen's Yufu Cream.

Poison?

How is she now?

She's all right.

We have caught the culprit red-handed.

She's been taken in for interrogation.

Royal Mother.

I have things to attend so.

So I shall take my leave.

The wedding is drawing near.

Let's avoid unnecessary trouble.

Don't tell Kang

about this.

Yes.

It's my negligence.

It's not your fault.

You're dismissed.

I'll visit Lady Shen.

Thank you, Royal Mother.

Lady Shen.

Look at your flower arrangement.

Even I don't find it nice.

It's even worse than those wild flowers.

That's right!

I think

that the wild flowers in the mountains

are better than this.

Why should I learn to do this?

Your Highness!

What brings you here?

Greetings, Your Highness.

Rise.

I heard from Princess Consort Xie

that someone tried to poison you.

Do you know who did this?

Princess Consort Xie is investigating it now.

It's just a small matter.

Thank you for Your Highness's concern.

King Peng Cheng wants to form a marriage alliance with the Shen family.

You should know

the motive.

So you have to be careful.

If anything happens, tell her to come to me.

I'm always around here.

Don't worry, Your Highness.

It's a small matter.

I can take care of it myself.

Your Highness, don't worry.

You can count on me too!z

Your Highness.

What matters now

is to help Lady Shen

learn the etiquette.

Here. Take a look.

Look what a bad student she is.

It's all a mess.

After this, Madam Yue Mei

is going to inspect her work.

Lady Shen has been wandering in the martial world.

That's what chivalry is.

She's able to wield all sort of weapons.

But when it comes to flower arrangement

it's not her forte.

It's good enough

that she didn't break it.

Your Highness!

Why are you making fun of me too?

All right now.

You should be able to pass with this.

Lady Shen.

You should watch and learn.

His Highness

won't always be around to help you.

But I get it.

Let's do the same arrangement next time.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Not at all.

Lady Shen, the refreshments are ready.

Your Highness, how about having a cup of tea?

Sure.

Lady Shen.

Don't move.

Thank you, Your Highness.

This is...

Didn't His Highness say

he was in a hurry to attend to his work?

I'm a little tired.

Let's head back.

Yes.

Right.

How's Lu Yuan now?

Any news about him?

After his brother died,

Lu Yuan has started to behave.

He's being courteous to people.

During the discussion at Zhijian Hall,

he didn't even say a word.

Given his character,

he's not someone

who will just let things slide.

He was demoted and stripped off his authority.

His father even took the blame for him.

Given his character,

he won't just let things slide.

I think

he'll be working hand in glove with the Xie family.

The Xie family?

Princess Consort Xie's family?

That's right.

Is it because of me?

You're just the bait.

What matters most

is the interests of gentry.

Don't worry.

I'll keep an eye on Lu Yuan.

All right. It's getting late.

I need to meet King Peng Cheng.

Be careful.

If anything happens, remember to come to me.

Are you close

with King Peng Cheng?

Of course.

We grew up together.

I'm leaving then.

I merely

took in a secondary consort.

There's no need to get so many people involved.

Has Your Highness forgotten

Great Consort Sun's birthday banquet?

On the wedding day,

it's better to stay on guard.

I've discussed with General Shen.

On that day,

he'll be responsible for the patrolling

in the east and south of the mansion.

I'll be in charge to patrol

the west and north of the mansion

to ensure the wedding will go smoothly.

Your Highness doesn't have to worry.

Central Protector Lu.

You used to be commanding

a huge army.

Right now,

you're personally laying out a defence

for my wedding.

It's a waste of your talent.

It's Your Highness's wedding.

We'll surely do our best.

But

at the moment

there had been veiled criticisms

from some of the ministers

about Your Highness's marriage alliance with the Shen family.

After all, this is unprecedented.

Your Highness.

Please give us a few more days

so that

we'll have more time

to comfort those ministers who are doubtful about this.

Some ministers?

Who?

Who?

If they had an objections,

they could have just told me.

Why talked behind my back?

I've decided.

The wedding date has been finalized.

No changes will be made.

Yes.

Your Highness.

What is it?

Major Huo travelled from Danyang

to present the memorial to the throne.

There are bad guys

in the Confucianism Temple of Danyang.

How dare of them to frame the scholars

with the rebellious article?

Fortunately, Major Huo caught them there and then

and presented the slanderous article.

Your Highness, please give the order.

I've just given the order

to open Confucianism Temples in various places

so that those poor students

have a chance to serve as officials.

Some people couldn't sit back

and tried to throw a spanner in the works.

Chief Secretariat.

Central Protector Lu.

Here. Take a look.

They even used

such sinister

and vicious remarks

against these weak

and powerless scholars.

Central Protect Lu.

Let me take a look.

Your Highness is right.

It's a low blow

to set someone up like this.

Indeed a low blow.

It's obvious

someone ordered this

with malice aforethought.

In regards to this,

we must make a thorough investigation.

so that those scholars

will not be falsely accused.

Do that!

That's for sure!

When Major Huo caught the culprits,

he said all of this stemmed from the fact that the scholars

offended two reputable families.

Two reputable families?

Guys.

Which two families

do you think could that be?

-I don't know. -I don't know.

The purpose of having Confucianism Temple

is so that the people

will be able to learn the etiquettes and principles.

That can cut down disputes

and save trouble

for the Officials at all levels

Why are they just so indifferent

to my considerable efforts?

Song is a country that attaches great importance to etiquette.

If everyone practices the principles of righteousness,

that will be a blessing to Song.

The Chief Secretariat is able to look at the bigger picture.

We can't let these thieves

get away with it.

Your Highness is right.

I'll leave this

to the two of you.

From now on,

the safety of the scholars at the Confucianism Temple

will be your responsibilities.

That way,

I'll be relieved then.

Yes.

You're dismissed.

Chief Secretariat.

Chief Secretariat.

Don't be mad.

Chief Secretariat.

Chief Secretariat.

I did that

for the interests of gentry.

Central Protector Lu.

This whole idea

seems to be badly thought out.

You're right.

Chief Secretariat.

Don't worry about it.

I have my own plan.

Central Protector, I just heard

that Shen Lige was poisoned.

Shen Lige's maid, Ling Xi

was caught on the spot.

Smarty-pants.

How dare of you

to lie to me?

Didn't the Central Protector

told me to take care of Shen Lige?

What happened now?

Shen Lige is safe and sound.

If the Central Protector had lent me a hand,

Shen Lige wouldn't have survived it.

You're now complaining about the Central Protector?

You should think about it.

What are you going to do

if Ling Xi

rat you out?

Ling Xi wouldn't betray me.

The human heart can be a fickle thing.

Only a dead person

can give people peace of mind.

Ling Xi will wind up that way.

So is you.

I will never betray the Central Protector.

Betray?

What do you have

that can sell the Central Protector out?

The Central Protector took you in.

You should repay him for the kindness he shown you.

I advise you not to speculate

the Central Protector's thoughts.

Just behave and do what you're told.

You hear me?

Yes.

I was wrong.

I'll not do that again.

About Ling Xi.

Take care of it yourself.

I'll take care of it.

They won't find anything on me.

Royal Mother, try the tangerine.

Seeing the tangerine

reminds me of King Peng Cheng's biological mother.

It was all because

of a tangerine

it got her involved in a fight of jealousy.

In the end...

So...

in this world

there are things that you can do

and there are things that you can't do.

I don't understand what you mean.

Still don't get it?

Why did you go to Han Ling Pavilion?

Why did you go to see Lady Shen?

I was just passing by.

That's not allowed too.

If someone with an evil intention

make up stories and spread the rumors

how are you going to explain yourself?

Royal Mother.

Fourth Brother and I

treat each other with sincerity.

Even if someone harbors an evil intention,

I believe

that Fourth Brother will never doubt me.

Xuan.

You're being too naive.

Still not telling us?

If you refuse to tell us, we'll send you to the Ministry of Justice!

You'll have a lot to suffer there.

Pull no punches!

What brings you here, Lady Shen?

Lady Shen is here

to see that maid who poisoned her.

This isn't a place

for Lady Shen.

Stop!

All of you are dismissed.

Yes.

Lady Shen.

I'll keep you company.

What's the matter?

Afraid that she'll say something

that she isn't supposed to?

Get out!

Yes.

Are you waiting for Shen Leqing to come to your rescue?

You're loyal to master.

But don't you know

your master's character?

The longer you are

the more uneasy she gets.

Once she starts to become suspicious,

she'll be worried that you might let things slip

as you couldn't stand the torment.

Tell me.

What will she think?

What will she do then?

I can give you a way out.

Ruminate about it.

Come to your senses.

Yu Yan.

Why are you...

Where have you been?

How could you still pretend

as though nothing has happened?

Yu Yan.

Why didn't you keep your composure?

It's a big deal!

Who can keep their composure?

Shen Lige went to the torture chamber today

and interrogated Ling Xi herself.

She really went there?

What did she manage to find out?

How would I know?

She told us to leave the chamber.

This started from you!

Let me tell you this.

If anything goes wrong

and it gets Princess Consort Xie implicated,

not even the Chief Secretariat can protect you.

Yu Yan, don't be mad.

Here.

-Come with me. -What are you doing?

Come with me.

Where to?

Here.

Take a seat.

Yu Yan.

It's going to be fine.

Knock it off!

Yu Yan.

I gave you my word.

Even if anything goes wrong,

all of this

has nothing to do with you

or even Princess Consort Xie.

I, Shen Leqing

will take full responsibility of it.

Yu Yan.

This is the new bracelet I bought.

It suits you well.

Are you really not afraid?

What's there to be afraid of?

It has played out this way.

I can only grasp the nettle.

But

you need to do me a favor.

What now?

Take it back!

All I want is to borrow your waist badge.

I want to see Ling Xi.

What are you here for?

Come with me.

Ling Xi.

Ms. Shen!

Ling Xi.

Ms. Shen.

Ms. Shen.

Ms. Shen, are you here to save me?

Ms. Shen.

I didn't say anything.

I didn't say anything.

I know.

You've suffered a lot.

Ms. Shen, I did it willingly.

Ms. Shen.

Yu Yan has told me

that Lige came to see you.

Ms. Shen.

I...

I believe you.

Here.

Be careful.

You love to keep things clean.

Look at you now.

It was all my fault.

Ms. Shen.

I know.

You're someone

with a strong sense of camaraderie.

Not only to me

but also

to your brother

and sister.

She's the mastermind.

The one who suffers is you.

Do you find it fair?

If you want to keep your life

I can help you with a plan.

In our lives,

there'll always be things

or people that tie us down.

And there are people that we cherish.

Sometimes

we have to make sacrifices

for their sake.

Even if it means

sacrificing our own life.

Tell me.

Am I right?

Ling Xi.

Ms. Shen.

I understand.

Be careful out there.

Quickly burn and get rid

of the dried upas

hidden in the maid's room.

Be sure to tie up loose ends.

My love you wasn't in vain.

Here's your favorite bun.

Look.

I made it for you.

Ms. Shen.

Thank you.

Enjoy.

I'm leaving.

Ling Xi.

I'm sorry.

I didn't wish for this.

Shen Leqing.

How did it go?

Did Ling Xi rat us out?

I once saved Ling Xi.

She wouldn't betray me.

Are you certain?

I believe in Ling Xi.

This is...

The dried upas.

Dried upas?

Don't worry.

The last bit of the dried upas

has been destroyed.

Right now

there's no more evidence.

What about Ling Xi?

Princess Consort Xie is a compassionate person.

Didn't the Chief Secretariat sent me here

for this?

Don't worry.

It's all going to be fine.

Xu Zhiyuan a graceful person with calm demeanour.

He makes a great candidate for imperial censor.

Fang Qing...

Minister of Appointment, wait.

I think your hat

is slightly to one side.

Look.

Thank you.

Why did you stop?

Your Highness.

This memorial

isn't the one I wrote.

Someone is tampering

with the memorial now?

Bring it over. Let me see.

Fang Qing is a learned person

and conversant with the Confucian classics.

He makes a perfect candidate for the position.

He shall assume the position as vice minister effective immediately

to assist the minister

and attend the court meetings.

I think

there's nothing wrong with it.

Your Highness.

Fang Qing's father, Fang Yonghuai,

was executed for turning his back and back out from war.

Fang Qing's mentor

was guilty of treason

and committed suicide in the prison.

The Fang family

are sinners.

How can they serve as officials?

Fang Qing's mentor was my mentor.

Judging from what you said,

am I not qualified

to be seated here too?

Forgive me.

That's not what I meant.

Chief Secretariat.

Is there an issue with Fang Qing

or the content of the memorial?

About that.

If you have any doubts,

run another background check

on these people

whose names are listen

on this memorial!

Your Highness.

Fang Qing is a erudite and a talented

outstanding man.

He can assume the position as vice minister.

Chief Secretariat.

Chief Secretariat!

Can't you hear me out?

Why didn't you object to it?

Why didn't you?

Who's Fang Qing?

A poor man.

How can he serve in the court?

Once the precedent is set,

how are we

going to convince the masses in the future?

This is obviously

King Peng Cheng's trick.

What should we do?

Should we fight until the end?

Why did you

agree at once

as soon as King Peng Cheng suggested

to run another background check on those people?

Is there a catch

to the those people

who were appointed?

Or could there be...

Definitely not.

The Lu family is also a member of the the gentry.

How could we possibly

accept running the government

with the rabbles?

I can assure you those people have been carefully selected

and can be at our disposal.

I hope

what you said is true.

A hypocrite.

How pretentious.

He is just seeking power for personal gain.

And he thought he's more noble than me.

Once Fang Qing gains a foothold in the court,

the political situation

will only put him in an unfavorable position.

King Peng Cheng.

Lady Shen is here.

Pay respect.

Kneel.

Bow.

Rise.

Greetings, Your Highnesses.

That's quite decent.

She has a graceful appearance.

It looks like

you have put in a lot of effort.

Lady Shen is very eager to learn.

She said she must work hard to practice

and not to let King Peng Cheng

and Your Highness down.

Besides,

His Highness conferred you the title Li.

"Li" is taken from your name

as a show of respect.

After the wedding,

you'll be the Consort Li

of King Peng Cheng.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Well, after you are married into the family,

you have to behave

and abide by the rules.

Be sure to serve King Peng Cheng well.

Don't do anything

that give people a reason to talk bad about you.

Understood?

I understand.

I'll surely remember

Your Highness's advice

to be cautious and play my part.

Rise.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Your Highness.

Please forgive me for being disrespectful.

I have something to inform you.

Do tell.

I have found

the main culprit

who ordered the maid to slip poison into the Yufu Cream.

That person

is in Jiao Hua Pavilion.

What?

Judging from what you said,

you're saying that Princess Consort Xie is the culprit?

Forgive me, Your Highness.

That's not what I meant.

But this person harbors evil intention

and is hiding in Jiao Hua Pavilion.

She acted in Your Highness's name

to do the dirty work.

Do you have proof?

If Your Highness could gather

all the maids in Jiao Hua Pavilion,

I'll be able to point her out.

Royal Mother.

I'm willing to work together with Lady Shen

to investigate this matter.

Chun Fang.

Yes.

Go with Yu Yan

to bring all the maids

from Jiao Hua Pavilion.

-Yes. -Yes.

As per Her Highness's order,

all maids from Jiao Hua Pavilion

need to head to Ren Shou Pavilion at once.

Yes.

Come with me.

Don't worry.

It'll be all right.

Liu Fang'er.

Xing Yuyan.

Zhang Nu.

Shen Leqing.

Hold on.

Leqing?

Why would you be here?

Why did you get here?

Lady Shen.

Do you know her?

Your Highnesses.

Please forgive me.

I'm the young lady of the Shen family.

I'm Shen Leqing.

Your Highness.

Qing is my sister.

She fled from an arranged marriage.

Never did I expect

that she would be hiding in King Peng Cheng's mansion

and ordered Ling Xi

to slip poison into my Yufu cream.

Poison?

Your Highnesses.

I'm innocent!

I don't know anything

about the poison.

Since you're the young lady of the Shen family,

why would you be a maid

in King Peng Cheng's mansion?

That's because my parents wanted to send me on an arranged marriage.

That's why I fled and came here.

I just didn't want

to marry to a faraway place.

I swear.

I never had the intention to harm my sister!

Sister.

Don't simply accuse me.

Your Highnesses.

Words alone are no proof.

Please allow me to bring the witness.

All right.

Bring her in.

Greetings, Your Highnesses.

Ling Xi?

Why are you hurt so badly?

What happened?

Tell me.

Ling Xi.

If you have anything to say,

feel free to speak your mind.

Her Highnesses

will do you justice.

Your Highnesses.

It was foolish of me to fall for someone else's trick

into doing such a thing.

Speak.

Who ordered you?

You...

It was Yu Yan.

She ordered me.

Step back.

Ling Xi.

What are you talking about?

Lady Shen.

It was Yu Yan who told me

to add more dosage of dried upas in the Yufu cream.

Otherwise, she would kick me out.

She also said

that I had to do it

before the wedding

so that His Highness

couldn't consummate the marriage.

Yu Yan

Yu Yan?

You're lying!

Stop!

Go away!

You're just a lowly maid.

How dare you frame me?

I didn't.

Why did you frame me?

I didn't.

Your Highness, I'm innocent!

I didn't do anything!

Princess Consort Xie.

This place

cannot tolerate

having such vicious person.

Your Highness.

Don't listen

to her one-sided account!

I've served Your Highness for a long time.

I've been very cautious

and I know my place.

Especially

those maids who just came in.

Shen Leqing!

It must be her!

I punished her before when she first came in.

She must

holding grudges against me.

She set me up!

She must be the one who framed me!

Your Highnesses.

I'm just a lowly servant.

I couldn't even enter the inner hall.

Yu Yan.

I'm not close to you.

Why did you slander me?

You...

That's enough!
