Since making my professional debut back in 2004,

I've been working hard in the variety show world,

the music world, and the acting world for the past 15 years or so.

I've been doing my best in all three domains.

What's your biggest concern these days?

That's my concern as well.

(I can totally relate to that.)

It always concerns me.

- Enlisting in the military! - Military service.

(I successfully completed my military service.)

I guess you have to do it soon.

I was worried too,

but everyone can get through it. You'll be fine.

You can do it.

I thought hard about what my topic should be...

because it has to be something that you guys can relate to.

After long, careful consideration, I managed to pick a topic.

To tell you the truth,

it's a topic that I didn't really want to talk about.

I didn't want people to find out that I've been...

thinking and feeling these things.

But for today's speech,

I thought I should choose a topic...

about realistic concerns that you guys and I have in common.

And the topic I chose based on that is...

It's anxiety. Anxiety.

(Seung Gi's anxiety?)

The Chinese characters literally mean "not comfortable".

In other words, it refers to when you're not at ease.

The various concerns that you guys mentioned earlier...

are putting you in that state...

of psychological discomfort.

Such anxiety and concerns those in their 20s experience...

are considered by some as nothing unusual.

There's even a saying that goes, "Youth, it's painful."

Do you think that your anxiety will be completely gone...

when you're older and more experienced?

My answer is, "Definitely not."

I've been a celebrity for about 15 years,

and I'm constantly haunted by anxiety and concerns...

about different things at different depths.

When I made a comeback after completing my military service...

(He was anxious back then.)

Think about how anxious I must've been back then.

I took a two-year hiatus.

"Will people be still interested in me and love me...

as much as they used to when I make a comeback?"

You all know Kang Ho Dong, right?

- Yes. - For the first time ever,

I called him with a concern.

(He turned to Ho Dong for advice.)

I said, "Ho Dong, I have many concerns at the moment."

He asked me what they were.

I said, "I'm only realizing now the weight of responsibility..."

"and pressure you've had to endure..."

"on the path that you've been."

(He told him about his anxiety and concerns.)

Then I asked him what he thinks I should do.

And this is what he told me.

"The fact that you called me to talk about your anxiety..."

But at the same time,

Ho Dong said this too.

"As celebrities, we want respect and validation from the public."

It really resonated with me because...

I think my anxiety stemmed from wanting to do a good job.

I wanted to do a very good job and attain recognition quickly.

But Ho Dong's advice made me realize that...

I was probably anxious because I wanted to get there fast.

I wanted to become successful...

and get the recognition I deserve quickly.

But you're most anxious...

when you're not doing anything.

Then, your anxiety will haunt you ceaselessly.

The same goes for me. After completing my military service...

"How should I make a comeback?"

"Should it be a variety show? Or should I release a new album?"

Had I kept thinking and fussing over such details,

I wouldn't have gotten anything done.

But instead, I jumped right into whatever came my way.

Even if...

the variety show fails and the drama doesn't do well...

People will criticize me, of course.

"Lee Seung Gi took two years off to serve in the military."

"His career can't be the same after such a hiatus."

Even though I had many concerns,

I took my first step. I started a new drama as well as a variety show.

That actually helped me forget about my anxiety.

I stopped questioning myself, "Will things go well or not?"

If you're feeling anxious because of your concerns,

I suggest you take action first.

I'm certain that such courage will make you grow as a person.
