About the movie adapted from "Daydream":

I think it ten years ago that my friend Takechi visited me...

to ask for my permission to adapt my novel "Daydream" into a play.

In the beginning, his plan was to make an opera,

then he changed his mind to a musical--he seemed hesitant.

He proceeded tentatively before achieving the we see today.

I perfectly understand his trouble and concern regarding artistic creation.

At the time I wrote this novel,

there were social and political constraints such as censorship,

which prevented me from writing freely.

Without those hindrances,

I would have written it the same way as Takechi,

his script being so perfect.

Recently I saw Kanako Michi, the lead actress,

who was the embodiment of my ideal.

I hope she shines on the big screen.

I dealt with the problems of human nature and society in a dual statement.

In this movie, nudity stands as much for man's extreme situation...

as it does for human alienation. It's a medium prone to elevating...
