There are a lot of things I should have
explained to you a long time ago.

I was terrified of losing you.

Well, this place isn't really a school at all.

It hasn't been since 1963.

It used to be a school, a very good one.

Then in the summer time of '63
there was a terrible accident.

One night, Michael discovered a small fire
in the carpentry shop, under the east wing.

There was a fire bucket standing nearby.

He threw the contents on the flames

and it turned out to be some
sort of inflammable spirit.

The whole place went up in a tremendous
explosion and a lot of people were hurt.

The police were called in.
The boys were sent home.

The school closed down.

Michael was very badly burned.

And for weeks they thought
he was going to die.

To start with, he just lay there moaning.

Calling out the names of the boys
who slept in the dormitory over the fire.

Those who had died.

That's how I met Michael.

At the hospital, you see. I worked there.

- Yes, I was a medical student then.
