coming to you yet again from my house.

My son Joshua‐‐are you ready for another epic night?

Well, tonight, I'm so excited to go back

to JoJo's iconic journey as the Bachelorette.

JoJo is one of the all‐time greats

because she had one of the sweetest,

most captivating seasons of all time.

And spoiler alert‐‐ JoJo and the man she chooses

are still madly in love.

But JoJo's journey to love was almost ruined

by one of the most explosive, most outrageous bad boys

we've ever had, Chad Johnson.

Later tonight, I'll check in with all the men

who battled Chad

and, of course, with JoJo herself.

But first, I thought I'd start by checking in

on one of the guys who didn't find love with JoJo,

but did find himself a sweet, little bartending gig

down in Paradise

and then a beautiful and talented fiancée.

I'm talking about my good friend Wells Adams.

Wells and his fiancée, Sarah Hyland,

join me from their house in Los Angeles.

When they announced JoJo

I was really excited.

and she seems like she has a great attitude.

and I hope that JoJo

is the one that lights my fire.

and I wanna walk away from my experience with her

and say, "I can see myself falling in love with her."

Tonight, we're turning back the clock to 2016,

a year when an all‐female "Ghostbusters" team

battled the paranormal,

Brad and Angelina called it quits,

Pokémon GO had us all out of the house,

and JoJo Fletcher

became one of the most beloved Bachelorettes of all time.

We've only just begun JoJo's journey.

So now that the first‐night jitters are over,

how does one woman handle the stress

of trying to date 30 men?

Well, let's find out.

I didn't know all this was happening.

My one‐on‐one with Alex was eye‐opening.

I feel like I learned a lot about Chad that I didn't know.

I have been so conflicted with Chad,

but I'm honestly shocked about the things that I'm hearing.

And I feel like right now,

and the boys were pretty happy about it.

Joining me now to discuss everything that went down

with big, bad Chad, two of men who battled with him

from that start, Wells Adams and Evan Bass,

who also didn't find love with JoJo,

but later on the beaches of Paradise, found Carly,

fell in love, got married‐‐

actually, I married them in Paradise,

and now they have two babies to show for it.

‐ Some vodka, it's some milk,

uh, some Kahlúa, and then throw in some protein powder.

‐ I feel like I interrupted something.

with some salami or any type of meat, really.

Uh, we have watched

a lot of Chad tonight.

You guys, in particular, battled with him‐‐

Evan, you the most, maybe.

‐ Yeah, well, I think when, you know,

there's an alpha male like myself in the house

in a group like that, there's,

you know‐‐I'm gonna become a target.

And some jealousy would come in,

and I clearly was at the top

of, um, you know, who JoJo was gunning for,

so he had to try to take me out.

‐ What was the feeling like,

and what was the‐‐the guy talk at the house, Wells?

‐ Well, I mean, there‐‐I think

there were two camps.

There was the camp that I lived in,

which was, "Let's stay away from this guy

as much as you possibly can."

And then there was the, uh, Evan‐‐the Evan Bass way,

which was like, "Let's poke the Chad bear."

I do remember one story.

He had put all his protein powder

in the cupboards, and when he found out

that we had moved his protein powder...

that's when I was a little concerned

for everyone's safety.

‐ And so much eating,

just giant stacks upon stacks of turkey and chicken

and‐‐I mean, every kind of protein you can think of.

‐ I don't, Evan, if you remember this,

but Robby made ribs,

and we were all enjoying these delicious ribs.

And we look over, and Chad was eating the ribs

and then he was also eating the bones‐‐

chewing them up... ‐ Oh, God.

‐ And swallowing the bones. I was like,

"What are you doing?" He's like, "There's a lot

of good protein in there."

‐ In all seriousness, any‐‐any words to Chad?

‐ Without Chad, I wouldn't have,

you know, made it to Paradise, and you know, it‐‐I feel like

that I, um, you know‐‐ Chad made me a better person.

And I was able to find Carly because of that.

‐ Uh, are Carly and the kids there?

‐ Well, hello, there.

‐ Oh, my gosh‐‐with a handful. Hey, Carly.

you have your hands full in normal times,

So I'm thankful that she chose to let me go that night.

Thanks for having me on. ‐ We just watched that

gut‐wrenching good‐bye with JoJo.

So let's go back to that moment.

‐ Yeah. ‐ How tough was that?

How blindsided were you?

‐ Yeah, uh, "blindsided" was definitely an understatement,

um, because we'd had such a great season

up until that point.

I felt the chemistry was there,

and I thought that, you know, we were going very far,

all the way to the end.

And, uh, I found out later, I was the last one

to tell her that I loved her, you know,

and I think that that might have been

the deciding factor for JoJo.

But, you know, it happened for a reason,

and, uh, I couldn't be happier for JoJo and Jordan.

Um, you know, they're a match made in heaven as well,

so happy for them.

‐ Let's talk about the personal life.

What are you up to? What's life like?

‐ Yeah, so you know, I live here in Nashville.

We do a lot of work with my military charity,

uh, using music as a therapy, uh, for wounded veterans.

And, uh, we bring them here to Nashville

and give them that experience, uh, to be able to write music

with professionals and kind of tell their story.

And so that‐‐that's been such a‐‐such a blessing

for me to have that. ‐ That's awesome, man.

Good for you for doing that.

So what's the deal?

Obviously, you're still a hot commodity, man.

Are you single? Are you looking?

‐ [laughs] Always looking for love.

Yeah, absolutely. ‐ Well, I have a little beach

down in Mexico. I'm just saying,

someday maybe we see you down there.

‐ Maybe that‐‐maybe that's where

I should start my search there.

So would, uh‐‐would‐‐would not be opposed to that

some time in the future.

to watch my mom suffer and hurt, it was just painful.

'cause it has been heavy on my shoulders.

because of all those things that happened,

it makes it a little harder to, like, get involved

into serious relationships like that?

‐ I mean, that's‐‐ it is kind of a wall I have.

as hard as I can to express everything I want for you.

‐ It's a new experience for me to open up to somebody.

It's something that I don't think

I've ever actually done in my life.

I'm definitely having emotions of love with JoJo.

But saying the word "love" to somebody is‐‐it's scary,

I don't wanna put anybody through

what Dad put us through.

I wanna find one girl and marry her.

We've been hurt by people who should unconditionally love us,

"Are you gonna be there?"

Like, a lot more emotion behind it.

‐ This entire situation is scary

'cause the feelings I have for JoJo are real.

I'm definitely falling in love with JoJo.

That's why I'm so appreciative of this entire journey already

'cause it's‐‐it's gotten me to be more open, be more vocal.

Just being with JoJo, her personality,

her sex appeal‐‐I mean, everything about her right now

is just so unstoppable.

It's hard not to feel, you know, that‐‐

that the feelings of me

falling in love with her are real.

They are true.

Just the small talk, the chatter, the feel,

the touch, the connection‐‐ it's all there.

And we're in this magical place

with monkeys and fishermen and saltwater and fish.

in the Fantasy Suite."

‐ I have a full night, no distractions.

At this point, there's nothing holding me back

and probably just let her know that, "Yeah, I love you."

She deserves to hear that, and I think

she's gonna be excited to hear it.

You know I've been falling in love with you,

and you've helped me get over a lot of fears.

I'm definitely not scared, and I wanna say that

I'm 100% in love with you.

It's wild because I've never told anybody that first.

And I know the burden that that‐‐that sentence

and that phrase carries.

It's been about a year since America

certainly hasn't left our hearts.

That's the first I've ever been called that,

‐ How are you doing, man? Obviously, we've been

keeping up during the quarantine

because of the "quarantine crew,"

and you guys have been very active on social media.

But how have you been?

‐ Yeah, you know, it's been ups and downs

throughout this quarantine,

but we've been making the best.

You know, I got a great group of guys here.

We're having fun.

We're making the most of it.

Like, if it rains,

we're outside skimboarding

in the‐‐in the front yard.

Like, we're just finding ways

to have fun.

‐ Just the response on social media‐‐

I mean, you are so near and dear and so beloved

in Bachelor Nation.

Do you feel that?

‐ You know, I gotta say,

like, most of the people that

support me and follow me show nothing but love,

and, so, uh, I got nothing but love for them.

And so it's been‐‐it's been truly a great experience

because of everybody that's supported me.

‐ Um, clearly, you were a part of the big news.

You know who our new Bachelor is.

It's your best friend, Matt James.

‐ Yep, yep. Matt's built for this,

so, uh, he's, you know‐‐ he's a great person.

His heart will really show and shine,

and it'll be interesting to see

where his heart leads him now.

‐ Met at Wake Forest, you've been buddies ever since.

‐ I was a new freshman.

I graduated high school early, was coming in early,

and Matt was already there as a freshman.

And, uh, right away, he just took me under his wing,

showed me the ropes, showed me a lot

of things to do and not to do.

And so we've just been rocking out with each other

since, you know, I was 19, 20 years old.

‐ Tell me what I'm in for with Matt.

‐ Oh, man, you're in for a lot of food.

You're in for getting woken up early, Chris,

and working out an obscene amount.

So this will probably be the best shape

you've ever been in on a season, Chris.

‐ The day after the big announcement,

he wasn't out partying.

You guys were up at the crack of dawn, working out.

‐ Not the day after; literally, an hour after

the interview, you know, on "Good Morning America,"

announced the Bachelor, we were running stadium steps.

I would have had a beer by then.

‐ Ri‐‐ [laughs]

By the way, nice calling your best friend out.

The salmon suit on GMA,

and then you pan down and you see that

our Bachelor doesn't have pants on.

‐ Yep, that‐‐that needed to be shared, you know,

but that just shows who Matt is, you know.

‐ Uh, so is, uh, Matt there?

‐ He‐‐he's around. He's around.

Matt, you wanna get over here real quick, say hi?

‐ Bring in our new Bachelor, Matt James,

who is wearing pants.

That's‐‐okay, a step in the right direction.

He's wearing pants. ‐ [laughs]

‐ Matt, obviously, the announcement

was absolutely huge.

What's your life been like? What's going on?

‐ I think that the, uh‐‐ the grandkid counter

for my mom started, uh, when that announcement was made.

So... ‐ How many does she want?

‐ Uh, she wants a basketball team.

‐ She wants a basketball team. ‐ I'll have a minivan.

That's‐‐that's the max that‐‐as many as we can fit.

So... ‐ What has the overwhelming

feeling been, and what's the response been?

‐ Oh, man, uh, yeah, my phone's been off the hook.

Most interesting text I got was probably from

my third grade teacher. ‐ Oh.

‐ You know, I hadn't heard from her since

I missed my book report.

So there's people coming from

all over the place to share their excitement.

And it's been nice 'cause, to be honest with you,

I've heard from a lot of my, uh‐‐

a lot of my black friends that, uh‐‐that aren't, uh,

Bachelor Nation, uh, faithful

that are excited about me and honored that

I'm in the position I'm in, uh, and have this opportunity

to just, uh‐‐just represent what it's gonna look like

to have, uh, diverse relationships

and, uh, tell those love stories.

And, uh, I couldn't be more excited about that.

‐ Well, I totally agree.

I mean, I 100% know we have the right man for this.

And to help this guy find the love of his life,

I'll ask you, Tyler, what kind of woman

are we looking for?

‐ What kind of woman are we looking for?

[both laughing]

‐ Well, um, I think what... ‐ Oh, my gosh.

‐ You know, you're gonna look for

is someone that kind of resembles his mother.

His mother is one of the sweetest ladies,

uh, very loving, caring, compassionate,

willing to serve others, help out in the community,

and, uh, someone that's ready to get on the ground with Matt

and change the world 'cause that's what Matt's gonna do.

Matt's gonna change the world, and someone that's ready

to take on that challenge with him.

‐ Well, the response to Matt being our Bachelor

has been phenomenal, and I can't wait

to have a front row seat to it.

since the first night that I met him.

and I feel like every day's a new surprise with him.

I see a life full of fun and excitement and passion.

‐ [laughs] Hey!

‐ What's up, Chris?

‐ Uh, JoJo, long time, no talk.

It's been a week.

‐ It's been a week. I know. [laughs]

‐ In all seriousness, uh, how are you guys doing?

‐ We are great. ‐ We're doing really good.

Yeah, we just moved into our new house.

Um, I can't believe it's been four years.

‐ It has been so good reliving this season.

What's it like for you to watch it back

and to watch everything that you went through?

‐ Honestly, I had a great group of guys.

It was so great getting to see our story

kind of unfold again, and I mean,

that was the best time of my life.

‐ That was my first time watching back that engagement,

and I can't believe how much my stomach dropped.

Did you s‐‐hear her when I first went, "How you doing?"

And she goes, "Mm, uh, I'm okay."

‐ I told‐‐ ‐ I'm like, "Uh, okay.

Well, that's it. I'm going home."

Like, I might as‐‐ should I even try this?

Do I need to get on a knee? Like, that moment‐‐

‐ It's really funny. ‐ Getting to watch it back now

I was tearing up; like, we were looking at each other.

I was like, "Whoa," like, that‐‐

that's how we got engaged.

‐ It's crazy. ‐ Like, that is powerful

that, like, as much as we were in love then,

we're way more in love now, but it was just so cool

to see that moment, 'cause it meant so much to us,

and it was‐‐it was perfect.

It was literally perfect.

‐ Turned out to be one of the most amazing

love stories that we've ever had,

and it has continued on.

What has life been like since the show?

‐ Ooh! A lot. ‐ It's been crazy.

You don't get‐‐you get a lot of perfection on the show.

You get amazing dates. You see the best of someone.

Sometimes that's not real life,

and you go through ups and downs,

and we've gone through our fair share of ups and downs.

‐ And we've been super open about this, Chris,

like‐‐and you know this too.

Our first year after the show

was very difficult.

We went through a lot of different struggles,

um, and there was a point in that first year

where it was like, "Whoa, are‐‐can we even do this?"

‐ We sat down together and were like,

"We love each other, but is that enough right now?"

And we kind of just‐‐ it was a fork in the road,

and we chose to stay together, and we're better for it,

but it was not easy, so you know,

the love that I have for you now

that we've been through that, and it's only gonna get more

with kids and a marriage

and everything that comes with that.

But it's pretty crazy looking back.

‐ Kids, marriage, it's all‐‐

it's all ahead for you guys, huh?

‐ Definitely. Just in this last year,

we've had, like, some big, you know, life moments for us.

We built our first home together.

Um, we were supposed to get married a couple weeks ago.

Unfortunately, that didn't‐‐ didn't get to happen

because of COVID, and so we're kind of resetting that,

you know, excitement again, 'cause we pushed it to 2021.

‐ Well, speaking of looking ahead,

you know who our new Bachelorette is.

You're about to get a sister in your, uh, sorority,

JoJo, and... ‐ Yay!

‐ It's Clare. What do you think?

And your thoughts for her. ‐ Oh.

Listen, when I started this whole thing,

I was young, and I‐‐and I felt like I was ready,

but listen, we've taken our time.

It's four years later.

I'm a totally different person now,

and I'm‐‐I just feel like

it's gonna be a different season.

I'm excited for her. She's gonna be awesome.

‐ Well, Jordan, as a man,

what is your advice for the guys

coming in to vie for Clare's attention?

‐ Be genuine with yourself,

and you're gonna get a genuine result.

Hopefully it's love, but it might not be,

but it worked for us.

‐ Any advice I would tell Clare:

don't self‐sabotage. [laughs]

There's a difference between trusting your instinct

and trusting your gut, and then also

letting your fears and insecurities

sort of self‐sabotage something amazing.

So really, just try to identify

which one is which.

‐ Well, guys, I'm very sorry we did miss your wedding day,

but I have a surprise for you tonight.

[dog barking]

‐ Let me go get that really quick‐‐hold on.

‐ He's the‐‐he's the best dog and silent all the time

unless someone comes to the door, so we let him.
