In 2013, 61 male patients were diagnosed with breast cancer.

their numbers have steadily risen and now they make up 0.5% to 1.0% of all breast cancer patients

and are calculated to be about 500 to 1,000 men in total.

The male breast cancer patient is very lucky if he's anything like this patient.

First is early detection.

Mr. Lee, in his 30s, had never once thought that he could be a breast cancer patient.

So the early detection was truly like a miracle.

By complete chance, someone became aware of the hard lump

in his chest which was a tumor in its early stages.

If that hadn't been detected, like most male breast cancer patients who discover it in the late stages,

he would have eventually died without being able to get it treated in time.

If you have someone who discovers it for you,

you probably should treat them as your life saver forever.

who knows that you have breast cancer.

For male breast cancer patients just going to the hospital can be a real horror.

A man would rather die than to come to a breast cancer clinic filled with women over a breast issue.

Unfortunately, because of the looks and judgments around them

many patients are missing their treatments.

This is an exam to evaluate the breast.

The exam which is painful for women, is much more painful for a man.

Men have to endure that pain alone

when they aren't able to tell their beloved about their breast cancer.

After having breast cancer surgery,

it is necessary to wear a surgical bra like this.

However, would a man be able to go and purchase this on his own?

Male breast cancer patients are more noticeable than other breast cancer patients.

People will whisper and look at him strangely.

It is a very difficult disease to get through alone.

I saw a girlfriend sign up for the appointments and radiation therapy in her own name.

As if she were the one getting the treatments.

It's difficult for someone to have rumors about themself being a cancer patient.

And while it isn't necessary for everyone,

My case was a miraculous one since I found out in its early stages thanks to my girlfriend,

but while going through breast cancer I faced numerous prejudices and obstacles and I felt hopeless.

I was not able to tell anyone at work that I am a breast cancer patient.

It was due to the anxiety of losing my position as an anchor.

However, there was something which was much more important than that anchor position.

Though I've lost my breast, in order to protect the person whom I met thanks to my chest (heart),

this very moment that I'm confessing this, I don't regret it even the tiniest bit.

I'm only sorry that it took so long to admit it.

A male breast cancer patient is just a cancer patient. He just happens to be male.

Fighting cancer is hard enough, but because of the prejudice that men receive,

it's twice the distress that they already have to go through.

So I am hoping that this will allow for a realistic countermeasure

against the prejudice against male breast cancer patients.

I also hope that in our country, minorities can also live happily.
