[Episode 6]

Do you have to use Zhuo Yin?

I'm not using her. I'm only giving her a better opportunity.

What kind of opportunity is this? At her current status,

she doesn't have enough time to practise.

She won't be able to pass the strict test of Team A.

- Not to mention scholarship. - Blame her for not working hard enough or that she's unlucky.

You know every student wants this opportunity at Mario Paci Conservatory of Music.

You're just trying to set up Li Zhenyan and Team S.

Once Li Zhenyan and Team S break down,

Zhuo Yin will be useless, right?

Lin Qingshang, let me remind you again.

I'm the conductor of Team A.

Zhuo Yin, today you...

Where is Zhuo Yin?

I saw her leaving while crying. Did something happen between you two?

Don't worry about her.

Start rehearsing from the 80th bar.

What are you doing here?

Sorry,

Conductor Tian. I'm here to find a member of our Team S.

After I find her, I will leave immediately.

I thought I already told you that she is now a member of Team A.

Where is she right now?

She is in Team A.

May I ask if Zhuo Yin came to practice today?

That's enough!

Li Zhenyan, I'm the conductor here.

Conductor? May I ask, you're practicing right now.

Where did your teammate Zhuo Yin go?

Do you know?

I saw her come, but then she left.

She left?

Yes. She was crying when she left.

I don't know what happened either.

No matter what happened,

she is a member of Team A. She has nothing to do with you.

Okay.

It looks like all of you don't know where your teammate went.

Then I will formally announce

from today onward, Zhuo Yin will return to S group.

[ Route 537, air-conditioned ]

Why do you have to go to Zhuoyin's house?

If you want to talk to her, can't you find her at school?

We have no choice. Zhuo Yin skips practice and classes.

She didn't even go to work and her phone is turned off.

I'm so anxious.

I know how they feel when skipping classes.

What is the matter?

It's nothing. I was looking at the road.

Qin Fen, is it here?

Come, don't hold back, make yourself at home.

- Drink some water, okay? - Okay.

Are you all Xiao Yin's classmates?

- Yes. Hello, Auntie. - Hello.

I haven't seen her classmates before. This is the first time.

Yes.

What are you here for Xiao Yin?

Hello, uncle.

Sit, sit, sit.

Uncle, we are in the music team as Xiao Yin.

Because she hasn't come to practice for awhile, we are a bit worried about her.

We wanted to come see if she is in any trouble.

It's ok if she doesn't want to play that kind of instrument.

That kind of instrument?

Uncle, actually in our team, every instrument is important.

What instrument do you learn?

I learn to play the piano.

- How about you? - I am also playing the piano.

I'm learning to play the violin. I'm the first violin of our music team.

You learn the violin?

Yes, I have started learning it since I was young.

Then what violin do you use?

Just... the regular ones.

That's what kids play with.

It's too ordinary. Too ordinary.

What do you mean by ordinary? You never saw my violin. How can you say that?

Today, I'll open your eyes,

to understand what a violin really is.

Don't touch it! It's really expensive.

Expensive? How much is it?

These instruments add up to at least 10 million yuan.

That expensive? Then why is Zhuo Yin working?

How would I know?

Uncle, did you play the violin before?

Actually, I can't play.

Being a violist was always my dream.

When I was young,

we had a rich neighbor who could send the kid to learn the violin.

At that time, I really liked the violin.

When I saw him play, I envied him a lot,

but my family didn't have the means.

Later, I married and had Zhuo Yin.

For her life to be better, I started my business to earn money.

I forgot about the violin,

but I never forgot about my dream.

Later Xiao Yin grew up and our business got even better.

I thought to restart my violin dream,

let Zhuo Yin inherit my dream.

But I didn't think that

she would want to learn the cello. I really don't understand.

Uncle, that isn't a cello. It's a double bass.

Whether it's a double bass or a cello,

that isn't what I want.

Actually, I know that she is working.

If she had listened to me, I wouldn't have cut off paying for her living expenses.

One day, she won't be able to insist.

She will come back and continue learning the violin.

At that time, all these violins will be hers. What is bad about that?

That is not bad. No matter what instrument Zhuo Yin chooses,

the double bass is her first choice,

not your violins.

Are you treating these violins more important than your daughter?

- But these violins are more important than my life. - Really?

Is it really more important than your life?

Then why did you give up on it in the past?

From what I see, the violin was never your first choice.

You already said that when Xiao Yin was born,

you gave up on it for a better life for her,

but now that Zhuo Yin has her own choice, why can't you support her?

But my dream—

That is your dream.

You need to realize it yourself. Xiao Yin has her own dream.

Do you want her to regret like you when she grows up?

Because this is Zhuo Yin's own family matter, I won't say any more.

Since you know that Zhuo Yin is working outside,

you should make some time to see her.

We will leave first. Let's go.

- Goodbye, uncle. - Goodbye, uncle.

I knew that you aren't that kind of person.

What kind of person do you mean?

That day when Zhuoyin was at your house, you were really mean.

I know that you would definitely help her.

Or else why would you suppose to perform on the streets,

but come here to persuade Uncle instead?

- I didn't. - Hey!

But Zhuo Yin already agreed to go back to Team S.

You have a sharp tongue but a soft heart.

Obviously you want Zhuo Yin to be worry-free,

but you act like you don't care.

I already told you I didn't.

I just want to ensure that the team works harmoniously.

Do you think I'm a pushover like you?

See, you're just being cold again. How much you despise me means how much you like me,

right?

You do! You do!

How much you despise me means how much you like me, you don't mean what you say.

Hello! The bakery is having a new promotion, please take a look.

Hello, our members can get a discount of 20 yuan on a 50 yuan purchase. Please take a look.

This is our new flavor. Would you like to try it?

Okay.

Hello, here is your coffee. Please enjoy.

- Manager. - What's wrong with you?

You didn't answer your phone or show up.

What time is it right now?

- Sorry, I had something— - You have something everyday.

If there is a next time, don't come any more.

Hello, server.

- I'm coming. - Could you introduce this bread to me?

- This is my first time here. - Okay, sure.

If you like a lighter flavor, then try this chestnut flavor.

If you want a strong taste, then I recommend you this one.

Which one would you like?

How do you know where I live?

Who let you go to my house?

Zhuo Yin, your house is pretty good.

Also, the violins your dad collected,

I really envy you.

I envy you too.

You can do what you like.

Zhuo Yin, why do you have so many jobs?

You should know that my dad likes the violin

and that he wants me to play the violin.

I know, so he wants you to follow his dreams.

You can't take it so you came out on your own, right?

Yes,

but I understand him.

My dad didn't have it easy.

For our family to live well,

so he kept working hard.

He pushed through several crises.

I could be so carefree since childhood is because of my dad.

He gave up so much

so that's why he wants me to realize his dreams.

His dream has been pushed down by life so many times.

I am his daughter, and he is my father I love the most.

This is something that will never change,

but I like the double bass

because of its low sound that gives me sense of security.

To me, the double bass is

like the violin to my dad.

Perhaps it's because we're too similar

so we persist on our own thoughts.

I want to get into Vienna Music College to further my studies,

to become a professional performer,

and get into a first-class orchestra.

So... even I can understand my father,

I also want to be understood a bit.

After all, this is my own road.

Zhuo Yin, you're really filial.

You still understand your dad even though he's like that.

But what Li Zhenyan said at your house was right.

If he likes it so much, he can learn it himself.

He burned his hand when he was working in the past.

Two of his fingers can barely sense anything.

He doesn't have the ability to play the violin.

That's why it's like this.

I... I didn't think that was the situation.

I misspoke last time.

Help me apologize to uncle.

Uncle, as long as you truly like it,

music will be just as beautiful, no matter what instrument it is.

If you have to persist on learning the cello,

leave the house!

This is a bass, not a cello.

I don't care if it's bass or cello,

if it isn't the violin, you can't play it!

Do you understand?

Where are you going? Come back!

Come back right now! Come back!

Your mom made this for you.

Eat it when it's hot.

There's also soup.

You eat this after leaving home?

How can you chase your own dream if you don't have enough energy?

Here.

Are you afraid that people will say you're not my daughter?

Stubborn.

Since childhood, you've been stubborn, just like me.

♫ Too many expectations made me lose my breath ♫

♫ I’m holding onto my own steering wheel ♫

Come back home.

Your mom really misses you.

Dad also misses you.

♫ You will meet a better self ♫

I got it, dad.

♫ You might have doubt before ♫

♫ My love, ♫

♫ don't worry too much ♫

Your mom made soup for you.

[Baroque characteristics: grand, passionate, energetic and decorative] [Georg Philipp Telemann, representative of Baroque period]

Not bad. Really not bad.

You don't have to practise piano anymore.

Spend more time on other subjects.

Professor Hu, there's no need to worry about me. I've already prepared everything that I need.

You should worry about Team S.

I forget you are a top student.

It seems that I'm teaching those bad students for too long,

I'm used to them.

Li Zhenyan, can you tutor me please?

Senior, help me too, or else my father will kill me.

- Help me! Please. - I said it first!

- I refuse. - What?

- It's all your fault. - It's you!

[Kung Pao Chicken Noodle] [Tomato Eggs Noodle] [Bamboo Shoot Chicken Noodle]

[Little Curtain: Shanghai Noodle Restaurant]

Drink some soy milk. If you need anything, just tell me.

- Thank you, uncle. - You are welcome.

- Thank you. - Study properly.

I know, dad. Hurry and leave.

If I fail again this semester,

my father will make me into noodles.

Senior Brother, help us.

"Saving a life is of boundless beneficence".

Yes, save us.

The history of Western music is really easy.

You just need to memorize what the teacher said during the lectures.

Is that so?

You didn't skip class, did you?

I...

The orchestra was very busy during that time.

Aren't these two classes for sleep anyways?

How can you still reason with skipping classes?!

Sorry, Student Li.

Our child caused you trouble.

Why don't you take a break first?

I'll make some noodles for you guys.

Dad, we just started.

- You can rest for a moment, ok? - Study.

- Okay, I got it. - I've highlighted the important points, just memorize them.

As for English,

it should be the simplest subject.

This... it isn't simple at all.

- What are you doing? - I've been tutored recently,

I might have to spend the night at your home.

I bring over some necessities for daily use, to make my life more convenient.

You're living at my house?

Yes, goodnight.

Stop right there!

Remember to notify Qin Fen at six o'clock tomorrow morning

to study at the school.

- A-B-N-O-R-M-A-L. - Abandon. A-B...

Abnormal. Not normal.

A...

Now, in such a cold weather, so early in the morning, we're reciting words, it's simply that...

Abnormal! Not normal!

Abandon. Give up. Fei She'er,

abandoned us.

Fei She'er.

But what did Master Fei come for?

He came but didn't teach us or help us practise.

Also, Principal Lin doesn't care about him at all.

What are the adults thinking?

Perhaps Fei She'er

came to find his first love so he doesn't have time to practise with us.

First love?

Did you hear something?

Who?

- Abandon. - Who is it? Tell me.

A-B-C.

A-B-A.

A-B-A-N-D-O-N.

Abandon.

First question,

What year did Beethoven go to Vienna? Who was his teacher?

Don't try to peek at the answer.

1972.

1972?

Who was his teacher?

That...

- Schubert was his teacher. - Right, Schubert!

Schubert was a fan of Beethoven. How could he be Beethoven's teacher?

And, how was Beethoven alive in the twentieth century?

What are you guys memorizing?

- We memorized it incorrectly. - Memoried it incorrectly? It's totally wrong!

You memorized it wrong? It's so simple.

I know the answer but I forgot.

Ask me another question and I can definitely answer.

Are you sure? Let me ask the second question then.

Whose book did Haydn use to teach Beethoven? And what theory did he teach him?

Oh, I remember! J-J, JJ Fa Ke.

Fa Ke?

That's JJ Fux. J-J-F-U-X.

Can you not talk in Chinglish?

And what theory?

That... that...

Throw Feed Method.

Throw Feed Method? Are you a zookeeper? Throw Feed Method?

Throw Feed? It's called counterpoint! What are you memorizing?

This is all you've memorized, right?

Remember it well.

This... I'm hungry. I want to eat fried rice.

You want to eat fried rice? I won't even give you plain rice if you still don't memorize it.

Memorize it!

Joseph Haydn.

Whose book did he use?

- 1972, 1972. - 1792, 1792.

It's not 1972, it's 1792.

Counterpoint, counterpoint.

Counterpoint, counterpoint.

Why are you this hungry?

I've just been reciting words.

Li Zhenyan said if I can't recite it, then I can't eat.

Xiaowo, let me ask you a question.

What's your relation with Li Zhenyan?

What relation?

Girlfriend.

Girlfriend? Are you sure?

Of course.

He helped me tidy my room and blow dry my hair.

We also played the piano together.

Wow.

Is this it?

Is there anything more exciting that happened?

Yes, anything more exciting?

He wants me to sleep at his house.

But only the sofa.

Sofa?

This sounds like taking care of a stray cat.

What do you know? Maybe that's Prince Charming's

unique way of falling in love.

After all, his ex is Jiang Caiwei. When things reach an extreme, they can only move in the opposite direction.

That's right.

- So romantic. - I'm not

a stray cat.

What are you daydreaming about?

Focus and recite the words.

Yes. I'm reading.

Hello, Auntie. I'm good.

I heard that you're learning to conduct recently.

Yes.

This is big news.

What is there to be surprised about?

I've loved doing this since I was a kid. You already knew that.

Were you convinced by some girl?

- Oh no. - What's wrong?

Nothing. Auntie, I'm hanging up.

What are you hiding? Hand it over.

I'm checking the love letter that Fang Xiaowo wrote to you.

You wouldn't want to see it.

Oh.

Love letter.

Do you think I'm blind?

Fang Xiaowo would write a love letter in English?

I let you study here and you're trying to cheat?

It's not like that. I can't memorize it.

The exam is tomorrow. Tell me what I should do then.

So you thought of this bad idea?

Let me tell you. If you get caught trying to cheat tomorrow,

how will you still be the first violin of Team S?

Also you. Why are you playing?

Tell me if this is a bear or monkey.

This is a stray cat!

- Stray cat? - I"m not a stray cat!

Fang Xiaowo. Fang Xiaowo!

- It's fine. You don't have to send me off. - Who's sending you off?

I'm going to the convenient store.

- Why are you going to the convenient store? - To buy stuff.

- What about Fang Xiaowo? - Don't worry about her. Just let her sleep.

Oh right. For the exam tomorrow,

memorize it well and don't cheat.

I know.

What do you know?

Lazy pig, you're awake.

Hurry and wash up,

then eat breakfast. I already cooled the milk for you.

Did I sleep on your bed last night?

It's because you took over my bed

so I didn't sleep the whole night.

Go wash up.

A new toothbrush!

Li Zhenyan, I like you the most in this whole world!

Blow.

What are you doing?

Let me borrow your luck.

Hurry and go take the exam.

Don't fall asleep while taking the exam.

I won't. Hurry and get some sleep

or else you'll be sleepy during the afternoon,

but don't oversleep.

Why would I oversleep during the exam day? Do you think I'm you?

- Hurry and go. - I'm leaving.

Go ahead.

- Be careful on the way there. - Ok.

I absolutely cannot take anyone in again.

Before the exam at 2pm, I can sleep for a few hours.

I'm not going to help those two study anymore.

Wake me up at 1pm.

Okay.

I'm done for.

Li Zhenyan, what are you doing?

Why didn't you pick up when I called you?

I overslept.

My goodness. You overslept? I thought only Fang Xiaowo would do that.

This is great, you can only take

the make up exam before graduation.

- I have to take the make up exam? - You have to.

But don't worry, with your grades,

as long as you don't oversleep, it shouldn't be a problem.

Timing and subtitles brought to you by The Symphony Lovers @ Viki.com

The exam was very easy!

- Li Zhenyan! - Senior Brother!

I answered all of the questions! Your luck worked very well!

Your tutoring was so useful!

Do you want to come to my house tonight to eat hotpot? Come on, eat hotpot!

- Come with us. Let's go. - Okay!

- Come on! - Let's eat hotpot!

If you don't mind, I'll go first.

Thank you.

[A107: Vocal classroom 7]

[Mario Paci Conservatory of Music]

- Thank you. - Why haven't you left?

I want to practise more like you.

You... Are you unhappy?

Is it about the selection?

Caiwei, trust me.

During the joint performance, you will most certainly be standing by my side.

I hope so.

I just saw you practising your moves.

For daily conductor homework,

shouldn't you look at the score and instruments, something like that?

It's my habit.

Not only the movements have to be precise, they also have to be beautiful.

My personal requirements are: on the stage, there shouldn't be even the slightest flaw.

But, don't the conductors turn their backs to the audience?

The audience can't see that much details.

But I can see it.

And the people in the orchestra sitting opposite to me can also see it.

If I want to become an excellent conductor like Master Fei,

I can't slack off, even a little bit.

I'm not going to lose to someone who hasn't even attended conducting classes.

Yisong, don't put so much pressure on yourself.

Like you said, I also want to work out a bit.

Let's go. I'll bring you somewhere.

Every time when I'm unhappy,

this place can cure me.

Can you play?

I don't really play much.

Look at me.

Try it out.

How do you feel? Do you feel much better after sweating it out a bit?

It's because you're accompanying me,

so that's why I feel much better.

Caiwei.

From the first time I saw you, I just knew that you were the one that I've always been waiting for.

Let me protect your dream from now on. Okay?

Trust me.

♫ A sweet hug ♫

♫ Tightly leaning into you/i> ♫

♫ We can't forget our promise. ♫

Look here, guys. In the beginning,

it starts with a very long F note.

It's an extremely strong note. There's a tremolo, here. Of course, it has nothing to do with you.

Senior, senior. I want to ask you, is this rhythm ok?

Oh, this rhythm is ok. You see, this rhythm,

it starts with a half note and then an eighth.

Just remember, at this place, there's a tie. Then you need to have enough time, so don't rush.

This part, this part, look.

There is a rest with an eighth dot.

And then you really need to,

you mustn't rush this part. It's a free note so you have to wait

until the other parts come in before you start this part.

- Zhenyan, drink some water. - I want to ask if

I just want to ask about our vocal part. Last time, you said you wanted it to be stronger.

- It was this part. This section here. - Zhenyan.

- What should we eat tonight? - Are you sure you want it stronger?

-The supermarket is closing. - Yes, yes, I want it to be stronger. I want this section stronger too.

You have to slowly wait until other instruments to come in,

- then your double bass will follow. - Zhenyan. Drink some lemonade.

- What about our part, can you take a look please? - Right, that part.

This part is a tremolo.

You have to keep the tremor until the other part.

For the tremor, how do I master this part?

For this part, you need to remember to listen, to listen to the other parts. Because you're a second violin,

you need to listen to the violin's main melody. Yes, the first violin.

Once you hear the main melody, then wait and wait,

until it goes down, then you can come in here.

- Right! It's the same everywhere else. - Senior, look here.

Should I drop this part?

I'm exhausted.

Caiwei, you're also here?

- Why are you here? - I'm playing basketball over there too.

I heard that you're going to perform for the upcoming school anniversary. How's it going?

I have something good for you.

This is for you. It's specially good to your voice after drinking it.

I don't need it. At the school's anniversary performance,

- I won't do it. - What's the matter?

What's the use of having a good voice?

As an alternate, I can only look up to the stage.

The light will never shine on me.

People in the shadows, are doomed to fail.

But... even on the stage,

doesn't mean the spotlight will necessarily shine on me.

Think about it, even if some people stand in the shadows,

if there is a dream in their hearts,

then the light will be in their hearts. Right?

- Do you want to play with me? - Okay!

But... I can't really play well.

I'll teach you. Here.
