Job 15-19
I know that my Redeemer lives

My Redeemer lives and that in
the end he was stand upon the

Earth and after my skin has
been destroyed yet in my flesh,

I will see God I myself will
see him with my own eyes. I am

not another how my heart yearns
within me. I know that my

Redeemer lives. That's what
we're taking and let me read

from Chapter 15 words of
elephants terminators, he says

to Job verse seven. Are you the
first man? Born where you

brought forth before the Hills
do you listen in on God's

Council. Do you limit wisdom to
yourself? What do you know that

we do not know what insights do
you have the region do not have

your father. Well, that's quite
a start for us to think about

suffering and yet if we start

thinks then I think we will
start to offer the kind of

comfort inverted Commerce that
that elephant's office. I

remember I was in a home Bible
study and we were at a prayer

time sharing points for prayer
and there was a woman in our

midst who have been suffering
with insomnia for for 50 years

but no sooner as she said that
she was suffering insomnia for

50 years. People said Oh, have
you tried a drop of lavender on

the pillow? Oh yeah. Have you
tried going for a walk by the

Sea front before before
bedtime. If you tried Chema

special have you tried the
shipping forecast? Have you

tried this Have you tried for
15 minutes. We were all giving

her advice about how she could
fix herself and she was very

godly. She just sat back and
very patiently and after 15

minutes, she just said. Yeah. I
tried all those things in the

first year. what I really want
you to do is pray that I would

that I would enjoy this and
that I would turn those night

times into prayer times for the
Lord that I can pray my way

through the missionary prayer
diary, and that kind of thing

and her focus was really on
getting. Suffering our focus

was on trying to fix her and
tell her to do something

different and I think that's
kind of the essence of this

miserable comforters. Yes, I
mean, look at Chapter 16 verse

Church fellowship. We have we

actually went and we shared the
truth of Jesus and it was

amazing because she was
experiencing the presence of

Jesus And she was filled with
joy and worshiping and things.

but imagine if instead of
pointing to Jesus, we got and

said you know you're in this
hospice because you're a sinner

and it's your fault that you'd
be like. Oh my goodness get

out. do not that is not comfort
that is horrible. Well. that's

what these friends do.
Basically, they say to you.

This is all your fault and.
Really, they're saying to him,

we will tell you how to get out
of suffering You. What do you

know that we do not know. Yeah.
What do you know and how to in

instead of thinking about how
to get out of suffering? really

what Joe wants to know is what
to get out of it or you know

not how to get but what is in
this to get in it. You want to

get even in suffering and he's
like I need Jesus and those

things like that that no. it's
all your fault. so the answer

to his suffering guilt
condemnation burden terrible

and Such neat answers, yes, and
they thought it was very neat

answers. This is why again
we're very careful are we not

when there's somebody who is
going through a really rough

time we we can read the books
beforehand about suffering so

far, yes or bereavement, but
not directly off because what

they need actually is warmth,
love comfort and the reminders

of Jesus and being appointed to
him. Yes, So not need answers

may feel actually that everyone
even God is against him. I mean

in Chapter 16 verse one to 18
look at verse 12. All was well

with me, but he. With me, but
does he still have a friend?

who's not such a miserable?
comforter? Yeah, absolutely.

and you know it's so
unfortunate that he has no

friends to point him to Jesus
and so in the end job just has

to point himself to Jesus and
in verses 19 to 21, we have

this wonderful verses. Even now
my witness is in heaven. My

advocate is on high. My
intercessor is my friend as my

eyes, pour out tears to God on
behalf of a man he plead with

God as a man pleads for his
friend. This is the friends

that job needs and I love that
there are four names. Gives to

Christ here you know firstly,
he's my witness so often in

suffering we feel like we're
alone. Nobody notices. If

you've been in the hospital for
any length of time, it can feel

very lonely time, But there's
one who sees one who knows and

he's Secondly my advocates one
who sticks up for me. You know

we don't have the strength when
we suffering. We don't have the

strength to stick up for
ourselves in heaven. We don't

have the right to stick up for
ourselves in heaven, but

there's one who is our advocate
who sticks up for us. My

intercessor you know when when
we are suffering. When when

suffering really hits can you
pray, you know, sometimes it's

it's just the Romans eight
thing just groaning just

groaning. and yet there is one
who intercedes for us. He he

pleads with God Verse 21. He's
an intercessor prays for us in

verse 20. He is my friend. my
friend who knows what it is to

go through such worse suffering
the we've ever gone through. he

amplifies he sympathizes. He's
gone through the Valley of the

shadow of death and he
promised. Our friend through

it, that's who we need to know
in our suffering and as we

comfort others, he's the one we
need to point people to oh we

ought to hold on to those names
of the Lord. My witness, my

intercessor, my advocate and my
friend hold onto let's hold on

to that. In the words of Acts
17 verse 15, when job seems to

be well overwhelmed by darkness
and chaos and despair and

falling into death. Actually
the word hope is mentioned.

Yes, how do we understand the
source of such hope? Well,

that's the thing cuz he's just
said. Look. these friends is

the no one here who's got any
real wisdom and real hope cuz

in verse 12. It's like you guys
just keep saying it's going to

be all right or you know not to
worry you know and all that

sort of he is not good enough.
I need something more than that

and he's like here when he
again we see with job. he'll

have a vision of Christ that
just like that, absolutely

fantastic and then he sometimes
looks. Again and look around

his friends and he ends up
getting all down again and now

he's saying the only friend
I've got a corruption in the

worm and the grave and things
and he said, I know hope so

again. it's why when we're in
the the best help we can ever

be. if we wanna be useful
comforters, it's not to go job

If we just go. Oh, it's gonna
be alright in the end. He's go

is it and he starts looking
around at himself and he I

can't see it. I can only see
things going down. Verse 11 my

days of my mind, Yes, so the
desires of my heart that's

right and he's now looking at
he's saying, is it really gonna

be? I don't think it is I'm
looking at myself so at this

point when he's doing that
looking at himself for his own

resources and his efforts and
his own heart and his own

desires, No and he ends up
getting deeper and deeper into

the darkness of depression. but
when he looks at his friend and

his intercessor and all that
he's like, Ah this hope but

apparently build out the. It's
not really listening Chapter

18. He comes back with his
argument of three. Why are we

in regards to this cattle and
considered stupid in your

sights? You would tell yourself
to pieces in your anger.

one of the great secrets of the
East African revival in which I

was brought up as a child. The
cross was always at the Center

of there will be darkness and
chaos and bereavement and

murder, But the cross was at
the absolute unmistakable

Kenya Today. The Anglican
archbishop is a revival man. He

keeps pointing to the cross

friends make him feel more and

more desperate is the way where
I was a way out of his

suffering. If only he had the
right Well, theology or

righteousness or attitude or if
they only genuine comfort for

job and all the suffering The
only genuine comfort cuz when

he when they say they look at
yourself in your own resources

job. So he does that for 22
years and he goes, it's pretty

bad. Actually. It's really
hates me. You see those two or

beautiful, but because he's
looking at himself, no hope

then he's he remembers and he
suddenly like. I if I

my body will decay away, but he
will resurrect me and then I

will look on him when we look.
Of the face to face this

friend, the one who's always
been with me. My Redeemer, the

one who's prayed for me. he
will bring me back. I will meet

together on this Earth
physically and then all my

physical problems will have
gone away and even if now, yes,

I'm suffering and there's all
these things wrong with my

body. Then there will be
nothing wrong with my body and

I'll be close with him.
mortality just like him you

don't. I don't care if
everything else I've ever said.

It's forgotten May this not be
forgotten and of course here we

are maybe. Three and a half
thousand years or more later,

we're reading it. His prayer is
well. It wasn't written on rock

forever, but it's on paper and
it's here. We're still reading

it. Jesus lives and it sounds
like something from one

Corinthians sometimes when I
read that phrase, I know that

my Redeemer lives. Where's that
from people typically say, Oh,

it's probably from somewhere in
the New Testament. It's from

the yeah one Corinthians 15.
He's from the first book ever

written in the Bible Jesus
lives. That's our hope. So job

1920 - five. It's a verse to
learn. It's nobody comes. I

know that my Redeemer lives.
It's worth. I mean we're all of

us preachers. We love preaching
and that particular sentence

and all those sentences around
it So job in this very first

Bible book ever written knows
whom his Redeemer is and his

father, of course later on by
