Original subtitles

I got blisters on my mustache!

[ Cow moos ]

Oh, boy! Tomorrow is our big dinner

we've been planning for weeks.

That's the reason I circled it on the calendar.

[ Yawns ]

All I can think about

is all that yummy food we're gonna prepare.

Hope you're ready for tomorrow's big dinner, Mr. Gus!

Sure am, Uncle -- [ Groans ]

Pizza Steve, you stoked that tomorrow is our big dinner day?

Oh, you know it, Uncle G!

Just need you to tuck me in.

Anything for my sweet prince.

[ Smooch ]

Gonna need your help in the kitchen tomorrow, too, Tiger.

[ Roars ]

Get a good sleep, Belly Bag.

It's gonna be morning before you know it.

Sure thing, Uncle Grandpa.

Good night!

[ Rooster crows ]

[ Yawns, smacks lips ]

Wow! Morning really did come fast.

I feel like I went to sleep less than a minute ago.

But it's already daylight outside.

Hmm. Oh, well. No time to waste.

Today's our big dinner day.

Now to wake up the troops.

Rise and shine, everybody! [ Bell clanging ]

Off to the kitchen to prep!

Way to hustle, guys.

I don't even remember walking into the kitchen,

or changing our clothes.

I do find it kind of strange

that we went straight from lying in bed

to standing in the kitchen.

Stop trying to make this about you, Mr. Gus.

Pizza Steve's right, Mr. Gus.

Let's focus on what's important.

We got to start prepping.

Tiger, you're on dip duty. I'm talking about hummus,

spinach artichoke, babaganoush, the works.

[ Roars ]

Pizza Steve, I got you down for kale and quinoa salad.

How are we on that carrot and ginger dressing?

Uh, got plenty in my private reserves.

Mr. Gus, says here you're in charge

of the three-bean vegetarian chili.

-Can you handle that? -Yes, sir!

That's what I like to hear!

Belly Bag, that leaves you.

Roasted red pepper risotto. You on it?

Yes, chef Grandpa. For sure!

All right, team. This dinner's gonna be great.

I can already picture us sitting back at the kitchen table,

stuffed and happy.

Wait a minute. Now we're at the dinner table!

And it's already dark outside!

What is going on around here?!

[ Sighs ] Yeah,

and why do I feel so full?

I'm full, too, but I don't remember eating.

Did we just jump ahead in time?

How is that even possible?

I feel like I would've remembered.

Well, one thing's for sure,

I'm not doing any of these dirty dishes.

Aw, man!

[ Gasps ] Doing the dishes was the last thing on the itinerary!

That means the big dinner is over!

[ Crying ]

And we didn't even get to enjoy it!

[ Crying ]

As leader of this gang,

I demand to know what's happening.

Well, from my understanding,

we keep skipping to the next thing we talk about doing.

You mean that if I say, "Oh, I can't wait

till we're all sitting on the couch watching TV,"

then we'll just end up there?

Oh, no! What's happening?! [ Creak! ]

[ All grunting ]

[ Roars ]

I was right. We're skipping through time

via film transition!

Well, how do we fix all this?

I want to have our big dinner.

I'm sure there's a logical explanation

why this is happening.

We just got to take a few minutes to figure it out.

Did anyone see that title card that read "Six weeks later"?

Six weeks?!

Guess this means we really did miss Big Dinner Day.

I've got an idea. What if we can transition backwards,

say, like, a flashback or something?

We should flashback to when we were watching

the first episode of "Too Many Files."

[ Grunts ]

Boss, I found those files!

Oh, my gosh! Give me those files!

Here you go. Ohh!

Aah! Too many files!

Too many files!

Aah! [ Glass shatters ]

[ Laughing ]

Even funnier the second time.

More importantly, the flashback worked.

We're back to the day before our big dinner.

Which means if these transitions are gonna keep happening,

maybe we can control them.

Oh, let me try.

I can't wait until tomorrow

when we're at the table about to eat our big dinner.

It worked again!

[ Sniffs ] And I can smell the squash

and tomato gratin baking in the oven.

Move out of the way! [ Smack ]

[ Grunts ]

Yes!

[ Sniffs ]

Smell those sweet, sweet veggies.

Huh? [ Screams ]

[ Monitor beeping ]

Huh? [ Screams ]

This isn't working.

We're never gonna eat our dinner!

[ Glass shatters ]

I hate transitioning!

Calm down, Uncle Grandpa.

We can't give up yet.

Transitions are a film tool, right?

That means this problem is happening

within the TV show we're currently in.

So maybe if we transition

back to before this episode was animated,

we might be able to pinpoint why we're in this mess.

That's a great idea, Mr. Gus.

Let's transition back to the storyboard phase.

[ Creak ]

So this is what we look like as storyboards!

Yep. The storyboard artists sketch the entire episode

in these little boxes.

And since we're not animated yet,

they use these cute, little arrows to indicate movement.

Great explanation, Uncle Grandpa.

But we should get out of these boards and back on track.

No problem. Let's just walk off screen.

Storyboard Artist: Okay, so they continue to walk off screen,

and then we reveal the storyboard artist

actually pitching the storyboards.

We see the whole crew watching the pitch.

And then Uncle Grandpa and the gang

open the door to the pitch room.

The "Uncle Grandpa" creators turn to see them enter the room.

Storyboard artist looks at them sort of confused.

Hey, cut that out! Stop narrating us!

-Out of the way, dorkus! -Oof!

Is this your idea of a joke --

me getting my hands badly burned?!

[ Laughter ]

According to these storyboard panels, we end up on the moon,

having never even eaten our dinner!

Wait a minute.

I don't see any transitions in these storyboards.

So that must mean they're being added

after the episode's been fully animated.

Isn't it the editor's job to add all the finishing touches

to an "Uncle Grandpa" episode?

That means we have to find the editor and make him stop.

But how do cartoons usually communicate

with the outside world?

Like this.

Hey! Hello?! Mr. Editor?!

-Hey, are you out there? -Hello? Come on!

-Are you out there? -We're looking for you!

Look, that must be the editor.

[ Snoring ]

How do you know?

You can tell by his sick neck tat.

Looks like he's asleep on the job, though.

Then how has he been transitioning us

all around the episode?

I think I see why.

That's it! He left his finger

on the "automatic transition" button,

which explains why every time we say something

like, "Hey, we got to get to Egypt ASAP...

we wipe to Egypt.

Then it's time we give this guy a rude awakening!

[ Zapping ]

[ Grunting ]

[ Slap! ] Aah! Wha-- What the...

-Good mornin'! -W-W-What are you guys

doing on my editing bay?

Is that what you call this mess?

Looks like Depression had a party and forgot to clean up.

You've been transitioning us all around the episode,

causing us to miss our big dinner we prepped for.

I'm sorry, guys. They've got me working so many hours,

I practically live in my office.

I guess I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.

Tell you what. We can finish up this episode for you,

so you can take a well-deserved nap.

Really?! You'd do that for me?

Ah, thanks so much, Uncle Grandpa.

[ Sighs ]

All right, guys. Let's transition us

back to the dinner table.

Fingers crossed!

-We did it!! -We did it!!

I can finally dig into this eggplant and tomato tart!

And this yummy butternut squash soup!

And this mouthwatering vegan apple walnut pie!

Leave room for the sweet potato and farro salad!

[ Roars ] [ All munching ]

That was well worth the wait.

[ Grunts ] Guess we better clean up.

Yo, Uncle "G"-pa, can you take care of that for us?

Sure can. Iris out!

[ Pop ]

-Good morning! Good morning! -Good morning!

Uncle Grandpa: Hey, Mr. Gus!

Ye-e-e-e-e-e-s?

What do you think of my caramel apple?

What caramel apple?

This one.

[ Glass shatters ]

[ Cash register dings ] This is the stickiest,

ickiest, drippiest caramel apple on the market.

See? You didn't believe me, you little baby.

You better be careful.

I hear those things are sticky as all heck!

What's the matter?

You afraid of a little stickity-wickity caramel --

Uh-oh! Sorry about that, Mr. Gus.

Here, let me just, uh...

[ Grunting ]

Almost got it.

[ Grunts ]

[ Exhales sharply ] You okay, Mr. Gus?

Uh-oh.

Thanks a lot, Uncle Grandpa.

Oh, no. Mr. Gus was right!

This caramel apple really is dangerous!

I got to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Ooh! Give me a bite of that sticky, icky goodness.

No, Pizza Steve, don't!

[ Both grunting ]

Pizza Steve?

I'm pizza. What do I need a skeleton for?

Oh, no! This is terrible!

[ Roars ]

Tiger, no!

[ Growls ]

[ Clack! Pbht! ]

[ Growls ]

[ Bones clatter ]

I'm getting rid of this thing once and for all!

[ Grunts ] Oh, no,

Belly Bag, I'm so sorry!

[ Squeaks ]

What have I done?!

This caramel apple is too sticky.

[ Groans ] Huh?

[ Grunting ]

[ Crash ]

Oh, no!

No!

[ Sobbing ]

I could really use a sweet treat right about now.

Oh, yeah, my caramel apple!

That was quite delicious.
