HIDDEN ORCHARD MYSTERIES THE CASE OF THE AIR B&B ROBBERY

Now I don't see how this will affect any

of the other HOA members who may or may not

be willing to work with Airbnb.

That's a personal choice, I get that,

but I don't get how a personal decision has

to become a group issue.

What I think my husband is trying to say

is that when this option was presented to each of us

we had a very open discussion.

Now was there a second meeting

that we were not made aware of

where this suddenly became a group decision?

Because it definitely seems that you all

have already made up your minds about what's best

for everybody else.

Well excuse me Ms. Thing,

but what exactly are you trying to insinuate?

I'm not insinuating anything.

I'm just stating a fact, Jack.

Excuse me!

Everybody come, I think we have a problem!

- Is everything okay? - Hurry, hurry!

Now, now!

When I finished my work this morning,

I come to the front to pick up my check

and I saw this.

And it come to my attention,

I had not done any work in this area today.

And when I went and knock on the door

and it open, I immediately came and found you.

Well, thank you so much for doing that.

We may as well go inside and see what else is missing.

- You're welcome sir. - Thank you so much Francisco,

Mr. Sanchez.

He's gonna get it one of these days.

So girls, how's everything going at school?

And I could miss it

I was there, remember?

So you're honestly gonna sit there and tell me

there's nothing strange about the Parker's break-in?

Strange like what?

The timing for one.

Weren't they about to do that whole Airbnb thing?

I think I overheard Ms. Jones talking to my dad

about that and she did not sound too happy.

Well I know that Kenny's parents Owen Drexler converted

their property and Stephanie over on Peach Street,

she said her family and two

of their neighbors all have Airbnbs now too.

What am I looking at?

These are the locations of the Airbnbs in the area.

Notice anything special?

Not really, I mean they all appear

- to be out of the Orchard. - Exactly!

All of them except for this one.

Still think I'm reaching?

I mean maybe, but what if I'm not?

None of this is our business.

People can open an Airbnb if they want.

Oh come on Gabby, where's your sense of adventure?

If not us, then who?

How 'bout the police?

What?

- Where are you? - Girl, I'm at

your front door.

You should have been there Mr. H, it was so awesome.

I told old big butt Mr. Zachary that my girl was the truth

and probably the smartest student that he will ever

have the privelege of teaching.

- You said that? - Mm-hmm.

Just like that, in front of the entire class.

But wait, wait.

There's more.

The best part was that Mr. Zachary didn't believe

that my girl Gabby has a photographic memory.

So I bet him that with one glance she could

not only re-write the entire test,

but she could get every single answer correct.

If I lose then I get a zero on the next test,

but, if I win, then everybody gets 100% on their papers.

So?

What happened?

Everybody got 100%.

- What? - She said

that everybody got 100%

for my forward thinking.

I'm not sure it was a great idea

- by a crime wave. - Very well.

It's for next year's economics class.

Oh, well, where do I start?

You might want something sweet for this.

I really appreciate all of your help girls,

I thought your article was about Airbnbs.

We just wanna make sure we're thorough

I need you to run to the library with me.

All right, I'll be right there.

Well, it's good to see you two.

Hopefully we'll bump into each other.

I mean, see each other again soon.

Yeah, I'd like that.

- Ooh. - Stop.

Oh, by the way, you girls haven't been

by the library recently have you?

No, you haven't seen us in the library lately have you?

I mean why do you ask?

No reason, I gotta go.

Stay outta trouble, please!

- Strike a pose. - Strike a pose.

We out.

Pick me up the same time tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I was gonna be here for breakfast anyway.

- What? - Your mom's invited me.

What did I do?

Oh come on.

Anybody who can burn that good in my book

at least deserves a chance.

Or not.

Hey one time, how's it going with your friend in there?

Nevermind.

Let's go over a list of suspects.

Here.

I read that crimes are usually committed

- by someone you know. - Right, after talking

to the neighbors we know that the new Airbnb

wasn't what everyone wanted around here.

Right.

Based on the police reports, jewelry, a computer,

and a few other pricey items were stolen,

but isn't it a bit weird

that there hasn't been any other burglaries around here

- before or after? - Yeah, don't break-ins

usually happen in waves.

Usually you'll start to see some type of pattern right?

But this just seems like one big random robbery.

Right a random robbery in which nobody saw anything.

As many nosy neighbors as this place has,

including you, it's very odd nobody saw anything.

Yeah, to get past me you've gotta be real good.

I mean I know everything

that's going on in this neighborhood.

That's why I think it's gotta be somebody outside

of this area.

I mean I know all of these people's business.

Maybe not everything.

Let's go over our suspects again

and make sure we're not missing anything.

We have Ms. Jones, the HOA President,

she hates all the Airbnbs popping up in the area

and was super mad about the Parker's opening their Airbnb

in her secluded inn at the Orchard.

She did seem a little pissed to say the least

and her behavior definitely makes her a suspect.

But isn't she a little too old

to be running around robbing folks?

I wouldn't put it past her, but I'm just sayin'.

Never rule out anybody this early in the game.

Hm, then we have me compadre,

everyone's favorite gardener, Senor Sanchez.

I hate to say it, but he makes the perfect suspect.

- That's a bit racist. - Isn't he the only one

in this neighborhood who has access to everybody's house?

My bad, and yes he is.

And he knows everyone's schedule.

- Then we have Ms. Kim. - Not a suspect.

Yes she is!

She lives in this neighborhood, that makes her a suspect.

Ms. Kim's habits make her too visible

to local authorities,

I don't think she wants any extra attention from anybody.

If anyone's trying to live off the radar, it's her.

True, but, playing devil's advocate,

that could be the very reason that she is a suspect.

I mean going off of what you were just saying.

If she truly wanted to live off the radar,

she would be one of the main people

that didn't want the Airbnbs in the neighborhood.

It draws too much attention to her and her special garden.

Good point.

What about the Perkins.

Mr. Perkins, no.

Mrs. Perkins, maybe.

Why are you so sure about Mr. Perkins?

You have your thing, I have mine.

Mine is telling me that Mr. Perkins is not one of them.

Am I 100% sure?

No, but I'm going with my gut on this one.

I don't really see a motive for either of them.

Yeah, me neither.

What about Mr. Patricks?

I don't really see how Daddy Warbucks fits

into this whole thing.

I would think that he's too busy counting his own money

to deal with petty crimes in our little neighborhood.

How much do you know about Mr. Patricks?

Aside from the fact that he's crazy rich,

I mean he's some type of real estate genius or something.

Lulu you in there?

Yes, where else would I be?

Why is this door closed?

You all better not have any fine tailed boys in here

being all under-lady-like.

- No mama. - Mm-hmm.

'Cause I know what I was doing when I was your age.

- Mama! - I'm joking.

Come on, you girls come outta this room

and have lunch before it gets cold.

I didn't realize your mom was an old school freak.

She said she was just playing Gabby, dang.

- Oh! - What the heck?

Sorry, guess I gotta work on my entry.

We just might be able to solve this case

if we don't kill one another first.

Oh so you got jokes now.

Well I almost broke my neck.

I looked over the list again and I realized

who we were missing.

Who?

Ms. Kim's annoying ass nephew Dae Dae.

- Dae Dae? - Mm-hmm.

How did we forget Dae Dae?

Girl, everybody tries to forget Dae Dae.

I mean what the hell is with Dae Dae?

He should be a suspect off name alone.

He's like a snake, always slithering around.

I knew my ears were tingling.

Y'all over here talking about me huh?

- I'm flattered. - Don't be.

We weren't talking about you,

we just simply mentioned your name and poof,

like black magic you appeared.

Okay, what's the difference, I mean?

For me to be talking about you I would have

to say words in order to express my thoughts, feelings,

and opinions about you, or something related to you,

but dude, I have no thoughts, feelings,

or opinions about you.

So you were talking about me.

- Oh my God please. - So Dean, how long

have you been back?

Long enough to know when I'm being interrogated.

And it's Dae Dae, not Dean.

What are you trouble makers up to this time?

Well, since you asked,

the break-in at the Parker residence.

Yeah, what you know about that?

I know I don't like that accusatory tone

- y'all giving a brother. - Oh, we're not accusing you

of anything Dean, I mean Dae Dae,

we're just asking if you're aware of what's been happening

in the neighborhood since you've been away for awhile.

All right, first of all, let's get it straight.

Me being away, that was through my own choice.

- Choice? - Yes, a choice.

I chose to leave 'cause I didn't wanna turn out

like everybody thought I would.

- And what's that? - Nothing.

- Why do you say that? - Because I realized

that everybody really didn't have my best interests in mind.

Who are you referring to?

You all don't remember who I used to work for?

- You had a job job. - No I don't.

Okay, you know what?

Why am I?

Okay look, I got to go.

I got to DM a D and D

and I ain't got time to talk to you all anymore.

- Peace. - Wait!

None ya.

Why's he being so secretive?

'Cause snitches get stitches.

What?

Look, you can take the brother outta the hood,

- but you can't take the... - Just stop!

No, but seriously though.

I think we may have found who we're looking for.

I can't wait.

Now what is so important that you two had

to talk to me immediately about?

We think we solved the case.

- What case? - The Parker's Airbnb robbery.

What are you two talking about?

Wait, please tell me that wasn't you two at the library.

I don't know what you're talking about.

But what we do know is who broke into the Parker's.

Did you know Dae Dae is back in town?

Dae Dae?

As a matter of fact I did.

- Wait, what? - You brought me out here

to tell me that Dae Dae is the one responsible

for the Airbnb robbery?

Well I find that pretty close to impossible to believe.

- Why do you say that? - Because Dae Dae was with me

the night the Parker's condo got robbed.

Wait, say what?

We were playing D and D at Kenny's house

when I got the call.

Look, let's just pretend this conversation never happened

as long as you two agree to let the police work

be done by police.

And another thing,

don't be so quick to judge a book by its cover.

You two grew up with Dae Dae didn't you?

Well, I guess we can scratch Dae Dae off the list.

I was so sure he had something to do with it.

I think we're looking at this all wrong.

What do you mean?

I think there are a few more pieces of the puzzle

- that we're missing. - I say we take the thing

back to the store and get our money back.

I mean I was just so sure that he had something

to do with it.

But if not him, who?

That's what I'm trying to figure out.

I mean the timing even lined up.

- Okay, I feel like crap. - Yeah, me too.

I don't even know what we should be looking for anymore.

Dae Dae said something about the first person

- he used to work for. - Shouldn't we leave

well enough alone and back off of Dae Dae?

He mentioned the first person he used to work for

for a reason.

Everybody knows he used to sling

for his auntie back in the day.

No, everyone assumes he used to sling for his auntie

back in the day.

Dae Dae here was not the person you know today.

That's Dae Dae?

That's Dean before he was Dae Dae.

You ain't gonna believe what happened to Richard

up on second failure today.

Well, unfortunately young lady I'm not at liberty

to discuss that with civilians not directly affected

by the incident.

I had no idea you had such an interest in law enforcement.

Yeah, me and Gabby been working on this case.

For some reason we just can't figure out...

You know, now that you mention it,

I have had a few complaints

about you two questioning neighbors,

details about the case, specifics not yet made open

to the public.

You two haven't been to the library lately have you?

You know how neighbors gossip,

what you don't tell 'em they'll make up on their own

So you used to be a detective?

That was a different life, before I met your father.

I was in the force for 10 years

and then I became a private detective

and then I switched over to cyber crime.

It's a lot safer behind a computer.

How did you get into that line of work?

My father was a cop and he will never admit it,

but he wanted a boy to follow in his footsteps

and he got me instead.

Do you miss it?

Yes, and no.

Mostly no right now,

but I can recognize it when I see it.

What advice would you give someone who thought

they had an investigation clearly figured out,

only to find out they were 100% wrong?

I'm asking for a good friend of mine.

Of course.

First, I'd say it's better to find out

that you've go something wrong than

to have someone else find it out for you.

And second, people are never as simple or as complicated

as we make them out to be, suspect everyone and everything.

And let the evidence speak for itself.

A good detective knows when to stop using this

and to start using this.

The best advice I could give your friend

becuase I have work all day. Until like 7.

You know what? By that time, you're gonna

hit a bunch of traffic. So don't even worry about it.

I will go to tonight's HOA meeting

and I will pick up dinner on the way home.

You're going to an HOA meeting tonight?

Yes. Damn, is everybody in this house

just think I'm completely incompentent?

I mean, I can walk and chew gum at the same tim.

I know, and it's so cute when you

concentrate so hard to do it.

Ha, ha, ha.

And I guess you think that's funny too.

Now if I can just get her to grow up

- and move out that fast. - Stop it.

I'm kidding! Come on.

But I do gotta get going before I'm late for work. Okay?

- Okay. Bye. - I'll see you later.

Tonight?

7:30.

Okay. Get it together.

Time to make the call.

Okay. Here we go.

I can't believe we're doing this.

I don't know why. This was all your idea from the beginning.

Why you gotta bring up the past?

- Did you make the call? - Yeah, girl.

I called everybody.

- Then we should be good. - Yeah.

Let's hope this works. I don't wanna see

- them get away with this. - Don't worry, my stuff

always works. Sometimes.

Well, let's just make it one of those times.

Excuse me, everyone.

Excues me, everyone!

We'll go ahead and get started with today's meeting.

And I have a special sweet treat for each of you

y'alls support.

I see you already got something sweet in one hand.

How about something sweet in the other?

- Oh, bring it on, brother. - Absolutley.

Here you go.

And make sure you come by and see us again sometim.

I'll make the brother stop.

inuries that may arise on the property.

In today's sever conditions...

Okay.

Good luck.

Not having homeowner's insurance

is a major risk to any home.

How much longer do you think this is gonna take?

I just want this whole thing to be over with.

Just for us to get on with our lives.

All the hard work has already been done.

Excuse me but we're having some type of

technical difficulty. Can you please cut

cut that feed off? Cut that off!

Please, everybody just remain calm. Please.

Well, there you have it folks. The true culprit

behind the Parker's Air B-n-B robbery.

Girls, do you mind telling me exactly what in the hell

- is going on? - I knew in my bones

- she was no good. - This has to be some type of

cruel joke.

Look, I gues it all just makes sense now.

I just can't believe that you would do this to me.

- Expecially after all the... - Finish that sentence, sweety

Now everybody, sit down

and shut up!

Especially you two little brats!

Damnit, Aldon!

I knew this was exactly what I knew

was gonna happen. It wasn't supposed to go down

like this. But you never want to listen

to me. I told you we should've gone a long time ago.

Oh, okay, so now you got

nothing to say, huh?

You know, I'm so sick of you weak ass

pathetic men!

Guess what?

I'm done playing the victim.

That's right. I'm taking my destiny into my

own hands. And ain't nobody in here

gonna stop me from taking what's mine!

Baby, you don't have to do all of this.

Negro, please. I put in way to much time to

just walk away empty handed. I want

all the money that I was promised.

Shut up, Angela!

Oh, well, look how found their big

boy voice.

Don't worry, Aldon. The insurance money

will never come back to you. As a matter of

fact, after the transfer I did this afternoon,

- hell, you won't even see a dime. - You think you can screw me over

- like that and get away with it? - Sit down!

Before you get sat down.

So all I was to you was a damn paycheck.

No, you were means to me collecting my

own paycheck. But

there's no hard feelings. We did have some

pretty good times though. Didn't we?

Now sit down. Everybody in here

just stop moving!

I wish you would. I'm just

itching to shoot the two of you. You know,

I refuse to let either one of you be my downfall.

You two need to learn how to have a little more

respect for your elders.

That's just bad parenting.

And on that note, I'm gonna make my way out of here.

Say my due.

Start living my best life.

Who are you calling a bad parent?

Way to go, Cynthia.

Better late than never.

And you still know how to make an entrance.

Odale, esse.

I never liked you, anyway.

I just want personally say thank you to the both of you

for helping us out.

These two had a pretty elaborate scheme going on.

Yeah, we wouldn've gotten away with it if it wasn't for these

meddling kids!

And if someone would've just listened to what the

- hell I was saying! - The kids got in the way.

Now, make no mistake,

what you two did was dangerous.

Not necessarily the way I would have reccommended

handling the siutation.

But,

maybe my way is not always the best way.

Good job, ladies.

Y'all really did something. You should be proud.

So, I guess I'll see you

after I'm done with all this.

I guess so.

You can get that later.

I'm looking forward to it.

I think you can keep him for a while.

Come on.

Thank you both for being here for me.

Well, I don't really feel like I did

- did anything. - Yeah, me too.

To tell you both the truth, I never really

did like that Mrs. Parker.

I mean, her coming over to the house all out of

and then you calling me mom,

I knew something wasn't right.

I was wondering if you picked up on that.

I know this is a lot for you.

But I want you to know that I got your back, girl.

I mean, even when you think that I don't.

I love you, Gabby. Like,

unconditionally.

It looks like someone else wants to talk to you too.

We'lll see you at home? Okay.

Wow.

Crazy night.

I can't believe you two did that. Good job.

Well, we couldn't have done it without your help.

- Yes you could have. - Yeah we

probably could have.

Listen,

I feel like I was hard on you two earlier.

What matters is that you were there when we needed your help.

I'm glad I was there when you needed me.

I don't know about y'all but all this activity got a brother

- hungry! - Besides, somebody deserves

a little treat for all their bravery and

- intelligence. - Okay!

Good job, ladies. Look, meet us back at the

shop for a celebration. Whatever y'all want

- it's on the house. - No way!

Yes way! Mike, you coming?

I've got to go clean up but I'll catch you guys soon.

Make it happen, Captain. And we'll see y'all

- in a few, alright? - Thank you.

- Well? - Well what?

I told you we could do this.

- I mean, was there ever a doubt? - Oh, is that right?

Okay, look, I may doubt you sometimes

and I may doubt me sometimes,

but us together? Never!

You know, I think we may have something here.

You know,

the problem with these new school females

is that they want anything and everything

under the sun and they claim

they can't find a good man.

But us old school females, we

damn sure know how to keep one.
