(male narrator) Here at Jellystone Park the Boy Scouts are staging

their annual national encampment

before the regular tourist session opens.

Hundreds of tents carpet the camping area

and from thousands of campfires..

[indistinct chattering]

...rise the enticing smells of a cookout.

The delicious aroma invades each leafy glade of the park.

Even to such a remote recess as the cave in which Yogi Bear

is still hibernating with his little bear buddy, Boo-Boo.

[snoring]

[sniffing]

- Uh, Boo-Boo, wake up. - What's the matter, Yogi?

- Is it April already? - Are you kiddin'?

It must be half past June. We have overslept, Boo.

The tourists are here.

I can smell millions of hot dogs and hamburgers cookin'.

Come on, Boo-Boo, let's get 'em

while they're hot, hot, hot.

But I'm still sleepy, Yogi.

Yogi? Where are ya, Yogi?

How weenie roast is the very most.

And a hamburger bun is a lot of fun.

Ye-ah-ee.

Uh, what's this? Boy type scouts.

'Thousands and thousands of 'em'

with Boy Scout goodies.

A little heavy on the hamburger side

but good nourishin' food

and like their motto "Be prepared"

I'm prepared to become their official food taster.

- Yogi. - Mr. Ranger, sir.

I had hoped you would sleep through this, Yogi

but, of course, that's wishful thinking.

Ah, you misunderstand my intentions, sir.

I was only going to, uh

extend a welcome to our guests.

As, uh, sort of resident host of Jellystone Park.

The social amenities have been taken care of, Yogi.

The scouts will never molest a bear

and I'm going to see to it that no bear molests them.

'You see this line, Yogi?'

'It's not very straight, sir.'

Well, get this straight.

You take one step over this line

and I'll clap you in irons.

Heavens!

Now go back to your cave, Yogi

and catch up on your

he-he-he, beauty sleep.

I got a good mind to report the ranger

to the park superintendent.

It's against my constitutional rights

to make me sleep when I don't feel like it.

What's this?

'Wash day at the ranger station?'

[chuckles]

The ranger clothing gives me an idea.

Hey, Boo-Boo.

Wake up, little bear buddy.

- 'Awake.' - 'Ooh, what is it, Yogi?'

Boo-Boo, how would you like to join the Boy Scouts?

I'd like that, Yogi

but I'm a bear, not a boy.

That is a mere detail, Boo.

Haven't you ever heard of the Cub Scouts?

'Yes, I have, Yogi.'

Well, I just formed a new troop.

The Bear Patrol.

And you're in, Boo, as a cub scout.

- Gee, do I get a uniform? - Of course.

[laughs] Come on, Boo-Boo.

We got scouting to do do.

'How about the ranger, Yogi?'

- He isn't going to like this. - Don't worry, Boo.

The ranger thinks Boy Scouts are tops.

But you're pretty big for a Cub Scout, Yogi.

I'm the Scoutmaster, Boo.

And you're the Bear Patrol.

Greetings, fellow scout.

Oh, hi. What's your outfit?

I am senior member of the Bear Patrol.

Bear Patrol? Oh, yeah.

Yeah, they're camped down by the creek.

How about that, Boob?

We just started five minutes ago

and we have new members already.

Let's stop in for a bite of lunch

with our Bear Patrol buddies.

You two men are a disgrace to the Rangers

walking around like that.

'What'd you got to say for yourselves?'

Well, uh, somebody stole our uniforms

right off the clothes line, sir.

Stole your uniforms?

Hm.

Well, stay in the cabin while I take a look around.

I can't imagine how Yogi could be mixed up in this.

But I better make sure he's in his cave.

He's gone and so is Boo-Boo.

'Hm.'

'Ranger pants. It figures.'

I sure saved myself a lot of walkin' around

by checking this cave first.

screech screech

- Hello, son. - Oh, uh, hello, Mr. Ranger.

- Going to start a campfire? - 'I doubt it, sir.'

Uh, I can't even get these sticks warm.

I don't think they'll ever replace matches.

[laughs] Uh, by the way, have you seen any bears around?

Bears? Uh, yes, sir.

They're camped down by the creek.

- 'Thanks, son.' - You're welcome, sir.

Well, that does it.

Back to the cold beans again.

Down by the river, eh?

This time, Yogi has gone too far.

That's at least 50 yards beyond the line

I told him not to cross.

Oh, no.

And when my feet gets tired, I walk this way.

[laughter]

Gee, that's great, Yogi.

Can you teach us how to do it, Yogi?

That, I can, but let's have another hamburger

to give me strength.

Oh, there you are, sir.

Uh, I'm the Scoutmaster of the Bear Patrol.

And I want to thank you for sending

those wonderful bears over

to be mascots during our encampment.

Oh, uh, I did?

I'm going to send in a very, very nice report about you.

Uh, ah, h-how do you spell your name?

Uh, Smith, uh, S-M-I-T-H. Ranger Smith.

Well, you should be proud of yourself, Smith.

[laughs]

Just look at those bears.

No more food just now, fellas. We're stuffed.

This is the life, eh, Boo-Boo? Ye-ah-ee.

Not for long, Yogi. Mr. Ranger is here.

- Mr. Ranger? - 'Hello, Yogi.'

Uh, eh, don't believe what you see, sir.

Uh, I can explain the whole thing.

That won't be necessary, Yogi.

I gotta admit it.

He's smarter than the average bear.

That Yogi, he did it again.

Well, what do ya know, Boo?

Mr. Ranger ain't such a bad scout after all.

Ye-ah-ee.
