(male narrator) Everything is ready at Jellystone Park

for the new season.

Everything and everybody

is ready for opening day.

Everybody but...Ranger Smith that is.

Another season and I can't face it.

'I'm not gettin' any younger, Anderson.'

Each day, I find it harder to bounce back.

Well, I can take the tourist hassles, the forest fires

the kids puttin' bubble gum in the drinkin' fountain

but I can't stand another season of you-know-who.

- Uh, Yogi Bear, sir? - Who else?

I'll quit. I'll go away.

Someplace where there are no Yogi Bears.

Oh, but you can't quit and let the park down, sir.

I know, but I can dream, can't I?

- 'Ranger Smith?' - Oh, hello, doctor.

All the bears are in good condition.

You run a healthy park here.

Thanks, doc. Did you check them all?

All except one big fat one.

I went into his cave, uh, but he threw me out.

Yogi! Alright, doc.

I'll go back to his cave with you.

Come on, Yogi. Get up.

The new season has started.

Boo-Boo, the season doesn't officially start

until Yogi Bear makes his appearance.

Yogi, you shouldn't have thrown the doctor out.

That was just a normal reflex.

When he put that co-o-ld stethoscope on my stomach

I thought he stabbed me.

Mr. Ranger isn't gonna like it, Yogi.

This Yogi Bear thinks he owns the park, doc.

I just can't keep him from filching the picnic baskets.

Oh. Yes, I-I had a case like that once.

- You did? - Yeah, out in Yosemite.

But I cured that bear completely.

You cured him? How?

Well, I made him think he had to go on a diet.

Doc, you've gotta try it on Yogi.

Well, sure.

Uh-oh. Here comes the ranger with that doctor again.

Good morning, Mr. Ranger, sir.

'It's real swell. You're lookin' well.'

Never mind that tripe, Yogi.

The doctor's here to give you a checkup.

No need for that, sir.

I'm healthier than the average bear.

I get plenty of fresh air.

- I sleep good, and I-- - Knock it off, Yogi.

Go ahead, doc. Give him the once-over.

Hmm, now, that's not good.

It's just a few calories that, uh

slipped down and lumped up.

I'm afraid you got it.

Got it? Got what, sir?

You've got that bears' ailment. Picnic-itis.

Oh, boy, get him. Picnic-itis, yet.

Picnic-itis! How about that, Boo-Boo?

Struck down in my prime.

Go away, Boo. It might be catchin'.

- It's workin', doc. - It always does.

Um, uh, there's a cure, Yogi.

You mean there's hope for me, sir?

Yes, uh, but you'll have to stay on a strict diet.

'You'll have to eat bear-type food.'

'Nuts, berries, absolutely nothing from a picnic basket'

or you could, as we doctors say, kick the bucket.

Oh, no. Not that, sir.

'Remember, no picnic baskets.'

I shall remember, sir!

It worked, doc. Yogi fell for it.

Well, animals are not very smart.

We humans have the edge on them.

[chuckles]

Gee, Yogi.

From now on, it's only nuts and berries for you.

I don't want you to, uh, go away.

On a diet of nuts and berries

I won't have the strength to get very far.

Besides, it's a trick, Boo.

- A trick? - Of course.

There's no such thing as picnic-itis.

Every year, the ranger tries somethin'.

It's the annual battle of wits, Boo-Boo.

Me, against the ranger.

I shall put Plan 431 into action.

I never heard of Plan 431, Yogi.

How could you, Boo? I just thought of it.

[chuckles]

Yes, sir. This is a great honor, sir.

We'll be ready for you, sir.

'Goodbye, sir.'

Anderson, guess what.

The park superintendent

is goin' to inspect the park this afternoon.

- Well, we're ready, sir. - That's right.

Even Yogi Bear is under control.

[phone rings]

Oh, that may be the chief again.

Ranger Smith speaking. What?

A bear is lying on the highway at the north gate?

Traffic is backed up three miles?

Gosh, sir. That's the gate the superintendent will be using.

I'll be right there.

Oh, boy, what a time for a thing like this to happen.

Yogi, get up out of there.

Do you wanna get run over?

That's the general idea, sir.

When one has picnic-itis

th-e-e-ere's nothin' to look forward to.

Come on, Yogi.

Alright, get that traffic moving.

'Hurry it up! Keep it rollin'.'

screech

Anderson, did the super arrive yet?

Uh, not yet, sir.

But we got another emergency call.

There's a bear threatening to jump off Lovers' Leap.

Oh, no.

Tell him to wait!

whoosh

(Smith) Yogi, wait!

Don't jump! It'll ruin me!

Hold it, Yogi! Hold it!

I can't hear you, sir.

'What did you say?'

Oh, boy, what a day.

Thank goodness, the super hasn't arrived yet.

[knock on door] It's the super.

Eh, come in, sir.

- Oh, no. - You gotta help me, sir.

I've gotta have a picnic basket.

One little basket. No one will ever know.

I'll take it to the woods.

You'll never see me again.

Stop! I can't stand it.

I'll get you a picnic basket.

Marlo Brandy is pretty good too.

[chuckles]

Here, Yogi. It's loaded with goodies.

Liverwurst sandwiches, chocolate cake

ice-cream tortonis.

Thank you, sir. Ice-cream what?

Never mind that, Yogi.

Just go in the woods and get lost!

- 'Ranger Smith.' - 'Superintendent, sir.'

Smith, don't you know the first rule of the park is

don't feed the bears?

B-b-but, sir, you see, I-I--

How can we expect the public to obey

if the chief ranger sets a bad example?

(Ranger Smith) 'Well, you see, sir, that bear, he--'

(male 2) 'The bears are not to blame.'

'They're just dumb animals.'

But, Yogi, why would the ranger give you a picnic basket?

I don't know, Boo.

Unless it's because he takes pity on us dumb animals.

[chuckles]
