We were lucky enough to spend a couple of days

filming at Atlanta's Museum of Contemporary Art,

a really cool location

that posed a couple of unique challenges.

For one, it's a pretty wide-open space,

so our crew had to hide in a creative spot,

and when they were hiding, they had to be dead silent.

The location was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.

It's a family show.

Well, I'm glad I'm not gonna be by myself today.

Man: [ Chuckling ] Yeah.

Yeah, help always helps. Yeah.

They did one of those, you know, sip-and-paint parties...

Mm-hmm. ...where they get

people together

and everybody gets a chance to paint something.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, like paint night?

That's right. Was it that one? Okay.

Yeah. What can I grab?

Oh, you know what we're gonna do?

We're gonna -- we're gonna help set up the installation.

But before that, let's, um -- here, have a seat.

I'll give you the fun job.

Okay.

Okay, you can do the fun job?

All right.

They like to save as much stuff as they can

when they do these parties.

Okay.

So just get all the paint off the brushes.

Okay.

And when the brush has as much paint off of it

as possible, just put it right there.

Okay, so, just get the paint off?

Oh, beautiful. Look at you.

Once they're pretty clean, you can put them on the towel,

and I'll wash them off in the sink afterwards.

You know, it's fun getting to work at the museum,

because you see a lot of these new up-and-coming artists.

Right. And they're fantastic.

Yeah, man, I agree.

But, for me, I can never quite wrap my head around

why one painting is more money than another painting.

Yeah.

Sometimes it's not even what the painting is,

it's just who the artist is

and if they have a lot of popularity.

Right.

You know, like, these works were done by Nathan Fields.

Mm-hmm. And he's just an up-and-coming

guy right now.

Like, everybody just goes crazy over him.

Sometimes the simplest stuff gets the most attention.

Yeah, I'll probably save these markers.

Push this out of the way.

Oh, are you gonna toss that?

[ Laughs ] Should we hang it?

It's lovely, yeah. I think it looks great.

It was on display there for the last four months.

We should probably be very careful while we do this here.

[ Chuckles ] Are you kidding?

It's beautiful, isn't it?

Michael: Hmm? Look at what I did,

I've not seen the painting, man.

I'm just doing what you told me to do.

I'm drying the brushes out so you could wash them,

and that was the piece.

And I thought I was gonna throw it in the trash.

'Cause this is a $500,000 painting.

It's...[ Laughs ] That's uncanny.

This is -- This is -- I --

This is surreal, is what it is.

This is great.

Yeah, we're gonna be turning over this entire gallery...

Wow. Okay. ...with new sculptures,

new paintings are all coming in.

Well, just whatever I can do to help.

We originally set up Wendy here to work at the science museum

where alien crabs turned into cats.

But we ran behind schedule that day

and never got around to tricking her.

So we set her up again at the art gallery,

and the second time was a charm.

He made all of these different sculptures from clay

that came from the catacombs in Paris.

Okay.

So the clay in these things

has the dust of some of the skeletons and stuff.

But all of it is designed with, I guess, this catacomb clay.

Oh, that's so cool. Parisian catacomb clay.

It's very cold, too. It is.

You can touch it to your cheek.

It feels like... It does.

Yeah. That's kind of spooky, though, right?

I think it's cool. [ Laughs ]

Yeah, me too.

So, the little guy goes on the top stand.

Okay.

Okay, can you set that up there very carefully?

Okay?

Oh, that's excellent. Okay.

Looks good.

And there's -- Oh, there's a paper here, too.

Let me see what it says.

Sometimes they have, like, a special thing

that they say to do with it.

"Handle with extreme caution."

Okay, we can do that.

"Sculpture is sensitive to direct sunlight and oils."

Okay.

Um, "do not handle with bare hands."

Oops. Oh!

"Do not handle with bare hands. Must wear gloves."

Okay. Oops.

[ Chuckles ] Okay.

Oh, yeah, I was feeling dusty.

I was, like, feeling, like, a sort of...

I can even see the hand on there.

That's so -- Whoa!

I think, 'cause your hand touched it, maybe.

There had to have been a hand.

Oh, my gosh.

That's the weirdest thing ever.

Oh, Wendy, I don't know. That's, like...

I was proud of the fact that I provided Wendy

with the "weirdest thing she'd ever seen."

And, of course, I couldn't resist taking credit

for my work, so here's the never-before-seen reveal.

Have you heard of that before, the Carbonaro Effect?

Yeah, I've heard of it,

but I don't know anything about it.

I do know that it's also the name

of a hidden-camera magic TV show.

What? My name's

I'm a magician.

Are you serious? I'm serious.

[ Both laugh ]

No, I'm not. I am a magician.

How did that happen? I can't tell you.

Are you serious? Where's the camera?

Oh, there's a camera.

And behind this mirror here.

I'm about to flip the camera off.

We needed an office where we could go wild

for a couple of days of filming.

None of the real businesses we scouted gave us

that flexibility we needed, so we created our own,

a fictitious architectural firm called Division Engineering,

and we built the office space from scratch.

Oh, Brandy, I'm Michael. How are you?

I'm good. You here for an interview?

Yes.

Nice to meet you. You look sharp.

Oh, yeah? Yeah.

I'm so nervous. [ Laughs ]

I'm gonna show off some of the designs to the big boss.

Oh, wow, that is nice.

What type of engineer are you?

Well, can I show you, actually?

Yeah. You can practice on me.

Okay, good, because I feel like, on one hand,

I feel like I'm presentable and I know what I'm talking about,

but I don't want to come across like some ding-dong who has --

No, you look pretty sharp.

You look like you got your stuff together.

All of the designs are my own.

Oh, wow. Okay?

That I did, and I'll show you the first one here.

I know both -- this is sort of like a dream house of mine.

And mine, too.

Yeah, but also you see I did the interior here,

because a lot of times, they say it's much better

if they know that you're not just slacking --

you know what I mean? -- by just...

You know, you have to be, like, really secure.

How did you change your glasses that quick?

What do you mean?

You just had your glasses...

Should I not wear these glasses?

No, I like them, but, I mean,

Yeah, they do kind of their own thing.

Is that weird if I come in and show a design with a mistake?

No. Because the thing is,

I have the mistake on the bottom, too.

So they know that I'm totally, like,

on top of what I'm doing.

And then the other one, um...

to show that I'm, like, artistic.

Well, everybody downstairs is really casual, so I thought,

I mean, like, I want them to know that I'm, like,

cool and, like, a good person to hang out with.

Brandy's reaction was so good.

It's an example of the ultra-rare

one-and-done performances of a trick.

We didn't even need to attempt the trick on anyone else,

but we did film the reveal,

as you're about to see in this never-aired clip.

Oh, my gosh, I left my stuff in the car.

[ Sighs ] It is in 10 minutes.

What did you say your name was?

Oh, my gosh, Brandy, I'm, like, tripping out today.

Oh, my God. You know what I mean?

Yeah.

Okay, I can't give away exactly how we did it,

but this trick is a rare long con

that involved sending this courier

on a mission across Atlanta.

By the time he arrived at our makeshift office,

we'd been tracking him for hours.

Good. How are you? All right.

Oh. [ Speaks indistinctly ]

What was that? A package for you.

Oh, okay, cool.

Uh, actually, would you open that up for me?

There's just a form inside I have to fill out.

Yeah, cool.

Great.

Yeah, sorry to make you do that.

Here you go, sir.

Good. Okay. Yeah, this is the form.

And what are these?

Why are there pictures of me?

These are pictures of you?

Yeah.

I have no idea.

Wait a minute. These are -- these are you?

I had actually asked for this last week,

and they didn't deliver it.

So I asked to send proof of attempted delivery.

trying to deliver it last week.

Like, this is when I went and picked up the package from them,

and this is when I pulled up to you.

Yes, sir.

That's crazy.

I'm looking at it, too, yeah.

So, on all of the previous attempts,

the couriers recognized that their photo

was impossibly inside the package,

but instead of freaking out, they just smiled and laughed

and were kind of okay with the whole thing.

Let me just -- I'm just gonna ask my boss really fast.

Can you give me a second? Let's find out what's up.

And then I'll sign that thing. Hold on.

Why are there pictures of me in this [bleep] package?

This was our first shoot day of Season 2,

and we ended up with so many great tricks

that we weren't able to air them all,

like this never-before-seen clip.

Actually, there is a little trick.

You take out one of the middle pieces.

Really?

And then they all kind of scramble apart

and then you resnap them back together.

Oh, you take it apart and scramble it?

Yeah.

To this day, my parents think I'm a genius.

No, no, I'm pretty good with, like, cognitive --

Let me see if I can get it.

You're blowing my mind.

I can do that in usually seven seconds,

so that was like eight, so...

[ Chuckles ] Okay.

So, specifically, like, what is it that you would want, like?

Yeah. Like, I like to doodle.

They're kind of soft.

have tons and tons and tons of bread inside of it,

so it's, like, way too much. Okay.

And that's the problem with bagels, is, like,

they're so good, but, like, there's so much bread.

Yeah, I get down to the doughy parts, you know?

Just get it all out, 'cause it weights me down.

It's a lot. But I've been trying to

go on, like, a juice -- that's a big thing to do --

a juice cleanse.

And how do you do that?

You can juice -- you know, they'll juice beets.

Yes. So, like, if you ever see

the purple juice or, like, carrot juice, it's really good.

Never tried it. It looks really weird.

I am never eating a bagel again.

Co We got permission to shoot at

this resort outside of Atlanta

over Memorial Day weekend,

but we had concerns about big crowds interrupting the magic

or blocking the cameras, so we actually waited

till the day after Memorial Day to pull off

this trick at the pool.

Man: ...'cause we've had a couple of employees

that like to sneak their friends in.

[ Beep ]

Okay.

[ Children laughing ]

[ Indistinct conversations ]

[ Clears throat ]

Here you go. Come on out.

Here you are. Okay.

How are you?

Woman: Mmm.

I'm just trying to block it.

That's good.

You can sit right over here. Let me show you something.

Yeah, I love you in that.

Did she just come out of a bag?

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Um, this lady right here in the red swimsuit --

she just came out of a suitcase.

Can you repeat that?

Yes, but she doesn't have on a yellow band on her arm.

All right, you know what? That's a safety issue.

Just keep your eye on them.

Okay, what you can't see here is the crowd

that had gathered at the window of the hotel lobby.

Some hotel guests realized that something strange

was going on at the pool,

and our PAs had to hold them back

from interrupting the shoot.

Fortunately, the security guard was too focused

on my luggage to even notice.

That's not the way it should be.

Let me get you up.

How did this lady get in this bag?

[ Sighs ]

Okay.

Let's just wheel on out of here.

Oh, shoot, she's coming over here.

Hold on. I'm just gonna put you down over here.

Sit right here.

Just pretend like you're not here.

Um, is there a reason that she's in the suitcase?

Well...you tell me.

She's not allowed to be inside of the bag.

It's a safety issue.

Do you think people are gonna be staring at me?

I mean, that's the only thing that I'm worried about.

No. Really?

You know, some people can be so -- can be so judgmental.

[ Grunts ]

So, it's okay if, uh -- 'cause we were just worried.

Um, yeah, so, this is cool with you?

Now, the mechanics of this trick are similar

to when a magician's assistant vanishes onstage.

And we got help crafting this illusion

from Las Vegas illusion masters Johnny Thompson and Thom Rubino,

who have staged all kinds of vanishing acts over the years,

but none quite like this.

You can put her back in the bag.

But I thought you said she had to be out of the bag

for a safety issue.

Um, yes, but I thought she was a human.

That's -- That's how I feel about her.

Okay.

Yeah.

Okay.

There's a lot of us like this, you know?

We blow them up, and we -- it's just like having a companion.

Yes, I understand. It's fine.

They call that the Carbonaro Effect.
