The Divas of Compton and the Drummers of Compton
are a group who started with our coach, Ms. Berry
The group started doing after school programs
and we give kids, like, a safe haven
where they can come and just be creative.
Living in Compton, California,
you have the beauty of Compton
but then you also have the dangers,
and that's when you might see a police car chase
just zooming by and you're like,
"Okay, get down, drop everything you're doing
and stay there."
In any urban area,
you're gonna have craziness going about
and we wanna make sure
that the kids see something else.

How did you get together and why did you get together?
Well, I'm born and raised in the CPT
and when I graduated from college,
I decided to come back to my hometown of Compton
to provide the kids in the community
with an opportunity to use their performing arts
as a tool to help change their lives for the better.

And who's this guy that you're standing with?

The goal really is
to give these kids an opportunity
to get a scholarship to go to college.

and I'm playing three sports,
hockey, soccer, and football.
For football,
I'm actually currently ranked seventh in the country
for kicking.
In sports, you have to be, like, this personality,
like, you gotta have this mentality,
do it, be physical, all of that,
and then I'd go home,
I'd play music,
I'd get so emotional with it
and write a song and start crying.
You know, this whole thing
between the arts and being a jock

Have your friends been really supportive?

I'm a dancer from the Bay Area.
What are you gonna be doing here on "America's Got Talent?"
I'm gonna be doing some crazy dancing.
I started dancing, actually,
when I discovered this amazing dance battle
down the street from my school
and from there, I was hooked.
I became a dancing machine.
Like, I was just dancing everywhere.
I was a shy kid growing up.
My parents, they were super strict and religious.
They wanted me to be in the military or a pastor,
so when I told my parents that I wanted to be a dancer,
like, for my life career,
I got into a big fight with my dad.
It ended up with me leaving the house.

And then he closed the door and locked it.
♪ Was there something I could've said ♪
That was actually the last time
I really, like, seen my dad.
You know, I had the same kind of upbringing
in that, you know my parents
you know, my mother was very religious.
She wouldn't allow me to dance.
