ALICIA: Remember, be assertive.

Look at him straight in the eyes.

NOODLES: But not for too long, or else it gets creepy.

I've learned that lesson many times.

KAYLYN: [laughs]

MAX: Guys, we don't have time to worry.

KAYLYN: That's the spirit! We got this!

MAX: Let's do this!

NOODLES: I, uh... think it's a "push."

MAX: [whispered] Ah, yeah.

Thank you.

KAYLYN: Whoa... ALICIA: Wow...

KAYLYN: Whoa, this is amazing!

TRACEY: Can I help you?

MAX: Hello there.

We are contemporaries of Mr. Hedges.

Fellow inventors. TRACEY: Uh‐huh.

MAX: I'm Max Graham, entrepreneur and visionary.

We're here for a tete‐a‐tete, if you will.

TRACEY: I will not.

Mr. Hedges is an extremely busy man who doesn't have time

for your children's games.

WILL: Who is ready to play some basketball?!

Woo! This guy!

MAX: Mr. Hedges, it's me, Max!

WILL: What? MAX: From InventiveCon?

You gave me your card.

WILL: Robot‐arm. MAX: Yeah!

Hi! I'm a huge fan.

WILL: Well, that is sweet.

Tracey, get these kids some free T‐shirts or something.

MAX: Uh, actually, Mr. Hedges,

I was hoping we could talk about where your ideas come from,

what innovation means to you...

basically how you're such a genius.

WILL: Uh‐huh. Hey, do you play basketball?

MAX: Sure, I do. WILL: Tell you what.

Come by for a game this Friday.

MAX: Wow. I, I'd love to do that.

Yeah, I'm, I'm great at basketball.

Amazing! Wow, I'm good!

ALICIA: Concentrate. MAX: Okay.

NOODLES: Try and get it from me.

Get it from me, get it from me.

MAX: Okay, okay, okay. KAYLYN: Get it away!

MAX: No, no, no! No, the ball!

KAYLYN: You got this one! You can do it!

NOODLES: Follow through! ALL: All right, here we go!

KAYLYN: Come on, come on, come on!

You got it? NOODLES: No!

KAYLYN: No, you really don't.

NOODLES: Come on, Max! MAX: Okay, all right.

ALL: [sighing]

KAYLYN: Okay, guys, huddle up.

[sighs] That was brutal.

MAX: True. So we have to make me

a convincingly okay player by tomorrow.

ALICIA: I can't believe you told him you were good at basketball.

You are... not.

NOODLES: Nope.

KAYLYN: You're kind of... the worst.

NOODLES: Yup. KAYLYN: You always have been.

MAX: I know.

NOODLES: You're truly awful at it.

MAX: Okay, okay! So I'm terrible at this.

What do we do?

NOODLES: You only have to score a few points, let him win,

and then nail him with your pitches.

KAYLYN: Can we get out of this huddle now?

Noodles is really sweating on me.

NOODLES: Sweat is just your body's sign that it's working,

so... ALL: Ew!

MAX: I don't get it.

I pown at BasketJam.

VIDEO GAME: Slam dunk!

NOODLES: Nice move!

ALICIA: He really is good at this.

ALICIA: It's like night and day. [video game sound]

KAYLYN: But the targeting system over the basket

does make it a lot easier.

NOODLES: The shot‐power meter is useful too.

VIDEO GAME: Slam dunk!

MAX: These skills must transfer somehow.

KAYLYN: They don't. At all.

ALICIA: But what if we could make real‐life basketball

more like BasketJam? [video game sound]

MAX: Ooh, yeah!

We could build a HUD!

Like a heads‐up display... for basketball.

KAYLYN: And you could take all the info you need

and put it on a visor.

ALICIA: And adapt the video game code

to create a targeting system?

It's totally doable.

NOODLES: Sounds like a slam dunk to me.

NOODLES: Max, I love ya, buddy...

but you're bad at this. MAX: I know.

NOODLES: Like really, really bad.

MAX: Okay! I get it.

NOODLES: But do you get it? MAX: I get it!

Yes. I do.

â™Ș

MAX: I got snacks!

KAYLYN: And I've got the HUD attached to the bike helmet.

MAX: Whoa, cool!

KAYLYN: It's the display from my dad's motorcycle helmet.

It's super expensive.

So we have to be careful with it...

or I can't go home.

Like, ever.

ALICIA: When I'm done, we'll replace the OS

with Max's new virtual coach.

Uploading... now.

NOODLES: Does that mean we're ready for the helmet skin?

MAX: Yes, Noodles.

Remember to...

[whooshing sound]

MAX: ...deflate it first.

â™Ș

ALICIA: I present to you...

SWISH!

NOODLES: SWISH?

ALICIA: "Sport Wearable Info System Helmet."

NOODLES: Okay...

I was thinking of calling it

"Basketball Automation Awesome Helmet,"

but apparently "BAAH" sounded too silly.

KAYLYN: How is it, Max?

MAX: [laughs in amazement]

It's amazing! It's like I'm in the game!

Now someone throw me the ball!

HELEN: Let's see whatcha got.

MAX: All right, let's see if this baby works...

[electronic beep]

ALICIA & KAYLYN: Yes!

KAYLYN: That was the best shot you've ever made

in your life, Max!

NOODLES: It was the only shot he's ever made in his life.

MAX: That felt amazing!

HELEN: Yeah, I knew you had it in there somewhere.

MAX: It's not me, Mom, It's the SWISH!

I think I mostly take after Dad.

Uh, sports‐wise. HELEN: [laughs]

MAX: I can't believe I'm gonna go one‐on‐one

with the Will Hedges!

Okay, I am so nervous.

NOODLES: It's okay, Max. You'll do fine.

[car honking] HELEN: Let's go!

KAYLYN: Wait! Max...

I have something for you.

MAX: Are these...

KAYLYN: My RF‐55s.

The jewel of my collection.

MAX: These were your entire Christmas gift last year.

You haven't worn them yet?

KAYLYN: Worn them ? Are you insane?

These are mint.

I just like to look at them, you know?

And smell them. [inhales]

Ah, that "new shoe" smell!

[sighs]

I want you to wear them.

For luck. MAX: Wow, Kaylyn...

Thank you.

KAYLYN: Oh, Max?

Maybe just... one last sniff?

[inhales]

Okay.

Go get 'em.

ALL: Woo!

ZEKE: Hello, friends.

KAYLYN: Hey! ZEKE: I have good news.

KAYLYN: What is it?

ZEKE: I just came into some cash thanks to my Aunt Sue.

NOODLES: Cool! Why did she give you money?

ZEKE: Probably 'cause it's my birthday.

ALICIA: It's your birthday?

And you never told us?

ZEKE: It's just another day.

I didn't really accomplish anything other than stay alive.

Whoop‐de‐doo, right?

KAYLYN: Well... happy birthday!

NOODLES: So...

How much money did you make?

ZEKE: I think it's tacky to talk about money.

Let's just say it's a tidy sum.

She usually gives me a couple bucks

and a sloppy kiss on the cheek,

but this year she's in Florida and sent a nice cheque

to make up for it.

ALICIA: Wow, Zeke. You're rich!

What are you gonna spend it on?

ZEKE: I'm weighing options.

I'm still very much in the ideas stage.

ALICIA: Well, if you're open to ideas,

I've got a few. KAYLYN: Me too.

Our company could really use a nice‐‐

NOODLES: Hang on! Zeke, buddy.

I got lots of ideas for your money!

I just need to think of them.

ZEKE: I'll hear all of your pitches in due time.

KAYLYN: But why can't we just‐‐

ZEKE: In due time.

What do you think you need, like, 10, 15 minutes?

An hour?

I'll give you an hour.

MAX: Did you know Will Hedges was the CEO of his own company

before he could even drive?

HELEN: Yeah.

You just told me five minutes ago.

MAX: Well, he was the first person ever to put a smoothie

in a jar and bring it to work. Can you imagine?

Just, just walk into the office,

"Ooh, I'm hungry for a very healthy, tasty morning snack!"

[gasps] "What's this?"

[slurps] "Delicious!"

HELEN: [laughs] Okay.

MAX: What? HELEN: Nothing.

MAX: What ?

HELEN: Just be careful, that's all.

You might have his Wikipedia page memorized,

but you don't really know this guy.

MAX: Mom, please.

HELEN: I mean, when was the last time

he actually invented something?

MAX: Four years ago.

He made sticky tack even stickier and more blue.

HELEN: And then what?

MAX: Nothing yet.

But I'm sure he's got something up his sleeve.

He's Will Hedges!

HELEN: [laughs] Okay...

ALICIA: Hello, Zeke.

As you know, all our work is done from this humble garage.

ZEKE: It is drab, isn't it?

ALICIA: We do the best we can with what we have.

But imagine what we can design and build with...

this new 3D printer!

ZEKE: I'm listening.

ALICIA: We can print anything, you guys!

Laptop loses a key? Print a new one.

Lose your house key? Print a new one.

Lose a toe? Print a new one!

Anything you can possibly imagine.

ZEKE: You had me at "new toe." ALICIA: Yes!

ZEKE: I can safely say so far, you're in the lead.

The bar has been set high.

New‐toe high.

This is a very nice brochure. ALICIA: Thank you.

MAX: Mr. Hedges, thanks so much for having me here!

This is the coolest thing I've done.

You're gonna love TrollJammer, okay?

Basically, we're just trying to make the internet a better place

and stuff, you know? This is huge...

This, this moment is huge for me.

WILL: Huh?

MAX: Oh, I was just saying that‐‐

WILL: Brad! BRAD: Here comes Brad!

WILL: This is Brad, my assistant.

I pay him a hundred grand a year

just to yell motivational slogans at me.

MAX: Hello, nice to meet‐‐ BRAD: You can do it!

MAX: A hundred grand for that?

WILL: Well, that and to carry all my icy cold drinks

on his back. BRAD: Winning is in you!

WILL: [laughs] That'll be all for now, Brad.

Now gimme a power drink!

BRAD: Fantastic!

WILL: Lemon‐lime, mixed berry, or grape?

MAX: Oh, I'm good.

WILL: Suit yourself.

WILL: [exhales]

Put this away for me, man.

BRAD: Yup.

MAX: Uh, Mr. Hedges...

Brad is... WILL: The best, man!

[laughs] BRAD: Thank you, sir.

WILL: That wasn't very motivational, Brad.

BRAD: There is no limit to how high you can fly!

WILL: Better!

WILL: You ready, Max?

â™Ș

MAX: Ready.

WILL: Did you just put a basketball on your head?

WILL: Okay.

KAYLYN: Relax!

And let me magically whisk you away...

...to paradise.

Aloha.

[Hawaiian music playing]

KAYLYN: Have a seat, Zeke.

ZEKE: So, your pitch is...

KAYLYN: Sun, sand, and surf.

Corporate burn‐out is real.

To get our minds energized and our output high,

we need a break!

Your money could take the whole team on a relaxing getaway

to the luxurious Kukui Hamalala‐Loey

all‐inclusive resort in beautiful Hawaii.

ZEKE: Kukui‐Hama... lamalooey?

KAYLYN: Kukui‐Hamalala‐Loey.

ZEKE: I don't know. I sunburn easy.

KAYLYN: That's what this is for.

Would you like a refreshing pineapple punch?

ZEKE: I wouldn't turn one down.

KAYLYN: Time away from work is a great way to relax our brains

into coming up with an idea for work!

ZEKE: I'm liking this.

NOODLES: Oh, come on!

ALICIA: What about the 3D printer?

ZEKE: Can you print Hawaii?

You're in the running with the toe printer.

KAYLYN: Yes!

ZEKE: A little faster, Kaylyn.

MAX: So, with our invention,

you could post stuff like pictures, videos,

and not have to worry about a bunch of trolls

making fun of... you.

WILL: Woo! Take that!

In yo' face!

MAX: Nice dunk. BRAD: [blows whistle]

Excuses are for the weak!

WILL: Did you see that, Brad?

I just dunked on that kid's head.

MAX: All I was said was "nice dunk."

BRAD: [blows whistle]

WILL: Your turn, Max.

You want to impress me?

Start hittin' some shots.

MAX: Okay, I'll shoot.

WILL: You're gonna shoot from there?

Brad, look at this!

The kid's gonna shoot from half‐court.

BRAD: Impossible! WILL: Go ahead!

I'll let you shoot from there all day!

WILL & BRAD: [laughing]

[electronic sounds]

WILL: [laughs]

What was that?

MAX: I call it the SWISH.

NOODLES: Two words for you...

"Personal chef."

And then two more words:

"Nonstop buffet."

And just two more, real quick:

"Bon appetit."

ZEKE: I'm impressed.

ALICIA: Sorry, how is this supposed to help

with our inventions?

NOODLES: No one's ever had a world‐changing idea

on an empty stomach.

ZEKE: He's got a point.

NOODLES: A point that I can sum up in just two more words.

KAYLYN: Please say those words aren't...

NOODLES: "Hot dogs"!

KAYLYN: Of course.

ZEKE: This is good!

WILL: Wassup, little man?

What you got? What you got, half‐pint?

Huh?

Come on!

What's good? What's good?

What you got? Lucky shot.

I got you. What's up?

What?! [gasps]

Are you for real?

Oof!

What's strong? What's good‐‐

Oh, come on!

Am I seeing this? Am I seeing this, Brad?!

BRAD: Winning is an attitude!

WILL: Oh, shut up and give me another purple drink.

Let's take a break.

[ball bouncing]

MAX: Good game.

WILL: That was impressive, Max.

No 12‐year‐old has ever beaten me on my own court.

MAX: Thanks.

WILL: How does this basketball head thing work, exactly?

Some sort of augmented reality?

MAX: No. It's game‐based.

Alicia, our engineer, modified the eyepiece display

using codes from BasketJam.

WILL: The military would love this thing.

MAX: What? WILL: And you've...

patented this? MAX: Nope.

We put this prototype together for fun.

WILL: So, you have no proprietary claim

on this invention whatsoever?

MAX: I guess not.

Kaylyn usually does the paperwork.

Noodles tests it out for bugs.

And Alicia...

What are you doing?

WILL: Just sending a quick email.

So, you said you guys have some other ideas?

Uh, TrollZammer, was it?

MAX: TrollJammer, actually. [email sent sound]

MAX: Why are you sending pictures of my invention?

WILL: Well, I'm...

I guess you could say I'm teaching you a valuable lesson

about the inventing game:

always lock up your ideas.

MAX: Why? [new email sound]

WILL: Because I just patented the SWISH.

[laughs] Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm gonna make millions. [laughs]

So, tell me all about TrollJammer?

MAX: I... I gotta go.

WILL: You know, one day, you're gonna thank me for this.

You really are.

You're welcome!

[sighs]

Right, Brad?

BRAD: Be your dream!

WILL: Drink me. BRAD: Yup!

WILL: Oh, Brad! Clean these up.

BRAD: Never give up! Never give up!

â™Ș

HELEN: I'm sorry, buddy. just

And his fridge guy yelled at me.

HELEN: His fridge guy?

MAX: Just forget it.

It was a dumb idea anyway. HELEN: Hey!

It is never dumb to go after something you want.

I think it's really brave of you to go in there

and pitch to the head of a company.

MAX: You sound just like the fridge guy.

HELEN: Okay, who is this fridge guy?

MAX: Just a guy with a fridge on his back, you know?

HELEN: Sure. Okay.

What happened in there?

MAX: I was blabbing about all our great ideas,

and he just stole them.

I may have won at the basketball game,

but I lost at not being an idiot.

What was I thinking?

HELEN: So, Will wasn't on your side today.

But you have great friends, family,

and an awesome mom who happens to think you're a super genius.

MAX: Thanks.

I guess he won, and there's nothing I can do about it.

HELEN: Oh, really?

That's how you want to leave it?

MAX: No? HELEN: Heck no!

â™Ș

HELEN: Max?

That's your cue to get out of the car too.

MAX: Oh. Right.

[slurping sound]

NOODLES: So, Zeke...

What's it gonna be?

Chef, Hawaii, or a 3D printer?

ZEKE: Very well.

It was very hard to decide, but a decision had to be made.

KAYLYN: And that decision is?

ZEKE: The proposal I ultimately decided to go with is...

...mine.

I'm taking you all for ice cream!

ALICIA: Let me see this.

$12! KAYLYN: [sighs]

ZEKE: Not exactly. 12 Canadian dollars!

Aunt Sue is from Thunder Bay.

KAYLYN: You said that you were rich!

ZEKE: You said I was rich.

I said I had some money.

KAYLYN: $12 couldn't get us all to school on the bus.

Why, Zeke?

ZEKE: I don't know.

Maybe I enjoyed the attention.

You wanna talk about it, or go get ice cream?

KAYLYN: How did I let myself think that Hawaii was possible?

How, Kaylyn?

NOODLES: I'll take the ice cream.

WILL: I'm thinking we can get a contract

for these with the military.

Preferably our own, but obviously

we'd go with the highest bidder. [laughs]

HELEN: Not so fast!

MAX: That line kind of works better

when someone's trying to run away.

HELEN: I'm doing my best. Give me a break.

MAX: I got this, Mom.

This is personal.

WILL: I'll call you back.

MAX: In life, a man has two choices.

Compromise, or lose.

Or, he can choose a third choice:

not choosing a choice at all.

WILL: Wise words. MAX: It's from your book.

WILL: You read My Business is My Life ?

MAX: I read all your books.

I was a huge fan.

I wanted to be just like you.

So I thought.

HELEN: Ooh!

Sick burn! [laughs]

Sorry. Very impactful.

MAX: Sure, you're famous,

and have a fridge guy,

but I have something very important that you don't.

I have friends.

WILL: I have friends. Brad's a friend.

Tell him, Brad.

BRAD: We are business associates at best.

WILL: Oh, Brad, no...

MAX: How did we make the SWISH?

Alicia's engineering skills, Noodles' creative ideas,

Kaylyn's attention to detail, and my...

well, my lack of basketball skills.

I'm usually more useful than that.

The point is we did it together.

WILL: Beautiful story, but my lab rats are reverse engineering

our own SWISH as we speak.

MAX: Keep it.

You need it more than I do.

It's been years since you've had a new invention.

HELEN: Ooh‐hoo! Burn!

WILL: And who is this? Your lawyer?

HELEN: Yup. But I'm also...

...his mom.

HELEN: Woo!

BRAD: That was awesome.

WILL: Ugh.

NOODLES: Banana nut fudge.

Nothin' like it.

ZEKE: This place goes all out for birthdays.

CHELSEA: We do when you make a super big deal about it

to our managers.

ZEKE: Hey... isn't it also supposed to come with

the birthday song?

CHELSEA: Don't push it.

NOODLES: Aah!

ZEKE: Wow, you're way more upset about this birthday song

than I am.

NOODLES: Nope! Ice‐cream headache!

KAYLYN: Why are you still eating it, then?

NOODLES: Gotta... fight through...

the pain!

ALICIA: Is it weird that I feel sorry for Will Hedges?

He's got no more ideas. KAYLYN: And no friends.

MAX: And my mom dunked on his head.

She's like LeBron.

You know, if LeBron made amazing lasagna.

NOODLES: [screams]

ALICIA: Seriously! Stop eating it!

KAYLYN: Y'know, I think I should wear these bad boys more often.

Why have 'em if you're not gonna wear 'em, right?

MAX: They look great on you.

KAYLYN: Excuse me!

Chocolate?

Max!

Hold this!

I'm putting them back in the box.

NOODLES: [screams]

ALICIA: Okay... If he won't stop screaming,

we'd better go somewhere less public.

â™Ș

â™Ș

MAX: [sighs] Man!

ZEKE: I'm not going anywhere until I get my birthday song.

Manager!
