Two years ago, Blue Planet II opened the world's eyes

It was a wake-up call -

our oceans are under threat like never before.

joining scientists across the planet,

Here on Heron Island, the green turtle population has

already faced some great challenges in the past.

In the 1950s the island was home to a turtle cannery,

16 years later soon after Heron Island resort opened.

Since then the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service have been

monitoring the nesting population and numbers have been recovering.
