(This drama was remade based on historical facts.)

Die.

Who are you?

Why are you doing this to me?

Dal Moon.

Are you here to kill me?

Did Min Jin Heon order you to do this?

Min Jin Heon promised to protect us...

in return for helping him.

That is the deal I made with Min Jin Heon.

And you...

got in the way of our deal.

Is that why you came here yourself?

(Prince Yeoning, Yi Geum)

For Min Jin Heon?

You really do make sure...

to do your part.

I didn't want to get involved in something like this.

What I wanted...

was support from the powerful so I could feed my people.

I didn't want to get involved in a political dispute.

You will have to slash me on your first try.

Any kind of hesitation...

will make you...

become the next target.

A different world?

I can't believe you're dreaming of something like that.

But...

you said you'll make it come true.

You said you'll prove everyone wrong and become what you said...

you'll be.

What will you do if I really become the king?

Prince Yeoning.

Everyone including you keep saying that I won't be able to do it.

But what if I become the most respected king of Joseon?

Get up.

It seems like you and I will be...

walking the same path now.

Let's start...

this fight together.

(Episode 8: The Beginning of the Counterattack)

Vice Minister! Vice Minister!

Vice Minister!

Kim Chang Joong and Yi Yi Gyeom are meeting the King?

At this hour? Why?

According to the Queen,

it seemed like they were talking about the King's successor...

judging from the fact that Queen Dowager was also involved.

What are those old foxes trying to do?

What about Prince Mil Poong?

Where is he right now?

Come inside.

- This is... - This is where...

all the information about the city is kept.

It has all the informations in Hanyang...

including secret conversations from the palace.

(Secret conversations: Conversations that hold secret information)

This information is from the palace.

It's about you.

About me?

What is this?

Kim Chang Joong and Yi Yi Gyeom.

The two Norons are meeting the King to discuss something about me?

I guess...

you really weren't aware about this.

You want Prince Yeoning...

to become the successor?

Is that truly...

what you want?

It is our loyal advice for the safety of our country.

You must choose a successor now. You cannot delay it any longer.

(Kim Chang Joong, Prime Minister, Noron)

What about Prince Yeoning?

Does he also know about this?

Does he know that this is what you want?

I met his father-in-law and checked.

Prince Yeoning will be willing to take the responsibility...

and do his best to assist you, Your Majesty.

You really did it.

I kept my promise.

The Norons will begin...

to sway...

and fall apart.

Was this what he wanted?

Do you really not notice...

Prince Yeoning's dark motives?

Attacking the Norons wasn't his goal.

He wanted to take the royal throne along with their help.

Gosh, hurry.

What's going on?

Are you sure he was sent by Prince Yeoning?

I'm also suspicious of him.

Hey, kid. Stop right there.

What is this time? We have no time to waste.

You little punk.

We followed you because you told us Prince Yeoning wants to see us.

But I must check.

This aristocrat already gave me a headache when I had to watch him,

but he's a lot more difficult to deal with in person.

What? You watched me?

Wait a minute.

Ah Bong, Jang Dal. He just called me aristocrat,

but he didn't it say it with any respect, did he?

He used the word sarcastically, didn't he?

Yes.

You little kid. How dare you?

- Hey, come over here. - Come here.

My gosh, stop it.

Master Mun Su.

Please go inside. Prince Yeoning is waiting for you.

What? Who are you? How do you know me?

Since when did you become...

So famous?

- Hey! - Is that raccoon real?

Goodness, don't touch anything.

You're all here.

Big brother, what's going on?

They're trying to make you become the successor?

Why would Kim Chang Joong and Yi Yi Gyeom suddenly do that?

I also don't know why.

I don't know why they suddenly got involved,

and I also don't know...

what else might happen tonight.

We're only sure that it isn't Min Jin Heon's plan.

It isn't Min Jin Heon's will?

Then how could Noron...

That means the Norons are probably torn.

So it'll be a problem, when this plan fails.

If Kim Chang Joong and Yi Yi Gyeom is alone in this,

Min Jin Heon and the majority of Noron...

will never forgive them.

Even the Sorons...

and His Majesty.

Big brother, what if things go wrong while they mention you as king...

like this?

Yes.

I know.

This could become treason.

(Treason: The action of betraying someone or something)

I also know what lies...

at the end of that path.

What should we do about this?

Immediately send messages...

- to all the other members of Soron. - Yes, my lord.

That's why I called you.

- My lord. - My lord.

This time, the fight with everyone's lives on the line...

will begin.

But you have no supporters in the palace.

They have their own group, but you...

No, that could be...

my strength.

I will...

make that weakness...

into my chance.

My lord, we're ready.

- Get my back. - Okay. Don't worry.

But who is in there?

You can trust that person. I'll explain the long story later.

Okay. Take care of yourself.

But where's Yeo Ji?

She went to meet some students, but she's not back yet.

She parted with me eight hours ago.

She must've become drunk somewhere.

Why would she do that in a moment like this?

Tell Yeo Ji to take care too.

Okay, Big brother.

Master, we should get moving too.

About Yeo Ji...

Our manly Cheon Yeo Ji...

would rather make others drunk.

She never gets drunk.

What?

Girl.

It's not the prince.

It's a girl.

Announce my presence to His Majesty right now!

I know the Prime Minister and Chief Inspector is in there.

All officials go in and out as they please.

Why can't I, a prince, go in there?

Causing a scene in front of His Majesty's quarters is a crime.

A crime?

How dare a mere eunuch tell me what to do?

Fine. If you won't announce my arrival,

I'll announce myself to His Majesty.

Your Majesty. Your Majesty!

I'm sure that you know...

how skilled mere eunuchs are in martial arts.

Prince Mil Poong!

How could the almighty Minister of Personnel...

visit this shabby backroom...

in this chaotic night?

I must've lived until now...

to see this strange sight.

You're right.

It is a chaotic night.

Prince Yeoning is pulling a trick to take over the throne.

But what can I do?

What do you mean?

This isn't a moment for you to say things like that!

Prince Mil Poong.

(Queen Seonui)

For some people, it will be a night that will decide their lives.

Prince Yeoning has been recommended as the crown prince?

Who decided to do that?

Why can't we do that?

A king decides the next king.

You can't do that.

And for some people,

it will be a night of old allies becoming enemies.

You're still so young, Your Majesty.

How could they discuss the crown prince?

Kim Chang Joong, Yi Yi Gyeom,

and Prince Yeoning must be punished, Your Majesty.

Someone...

will be cornered to make a great decision.

And someone...

will try to have hope...

and fruitlessly struggle...

only to end up falling down.

This is indeed a chaotic night.

Your Highness may be a daughter of Soron.

But after you entered the palace,

you stood by Noron's side.

Isn't that because you knew...

Noron's rightful will to protect this land?

Are you telling me to stay away from this...

even if I'm the Queen Dowager,

since Prince Yeoning isn't with the Norons?

This kingdom is Joseon.

Those born from low lives can't become a king.

Prince Yeoning is a son of the late King.

But his mother was a maid.

Yes. Didn't this happen...

because the late King brought a maid to become his Queen?

- Minister of Personnel! - How can the nobles of Joseon...

bow their heads to a son of a low life?

How could you ask the nobles to be humiliated like that?

Be humiliated?

How dare a mere official...

humiliate the late King and his son?

You said his mother is a low life.

Then I'll adopt Prince Yeoning as my son.

Won't that fix this?

You and Noron...

won't dare to call me a low life.

No.

You won't be able to do that.

It's too late now.

Too late for what?

What do you mean?

Minister of Personnel.

My lord. What did the Queen say? Could it be?

Is everything settled?

There's no need to be so timid.

Prince Yeoning...

will never become the crown prince.

You must've been unable to sleep just because of me.

I knew you'd be here too.

What brings you here?

I couldn't stand the shame of being left out.

I didn't mean to do this,

but I made you run out here in such a hurry tonight.

My goodness.

So did you send that assassin?

Minister of Personnel, why are you so pale unlike your usual self?

That's strange. I wonder why.

Was it that surprising to see me here?

Prince Yeoning.

His Majesty...

is looking for you.

You should rush to his chambers.

How could Prince Yeoning still be alive?

How could he do this?

My lord, what is going on?

Bring the Minister of Taxation.

Are you talking about Soron's Yi Gwang Jwa?

Hurry up. We don't have any time to spare.

No!

You're a dog that does everything told by the ones who hold power.

Han Jeong Seok.

No!

- What are you doing? - You can't do this!

Jipyeong Wi!

- What is it? - Please spare me some time.

You might live or die.

Your fate is on the line tonight.

Your Majesty, Prince Yeoning is here.

You're that man who caused a scene when my friend, Jeong Seok...

"My friend, Jeong Seok"?

Other people might think that you were close friends.

But you're just a traitor.

How dare you say that?

Forget it. Just listen to me.

In the palace,

Min Jin Heon is probably meeting the Sorons.

What? What do you mean?

Prince Yeoning.

They're planning to get rid of him.

What did you say, Minister of Personnel?

Will you just let Prince Yeoning become the crown prince?

I know Soron won't want that either.

Even for His Majesty's own good.

Are you saying that we should make a deal?

I'll hand over the chief justice...

and Hongmoongwan's minister position to the Sorons.

If you condemn...

Prince Yeoning's treason...

with the rest of us.

Treason you say?

Were you after the throne...

from the beginning?

Yes.

That night...

when I met Your Majesty,

I made up...

my mind.

We may be the last ones expected to do anything.

But what do you say...

we change the world?

Is that why you used me?

To become Noron's king from the beginning?

No.

That's not true.

I'm here...

only to speak the truth.

Yes, I decided...

to become the heir. However,

it is true that I also wanted...

to stop the Norons.

But how could I...

trust you?

Whatever your true intentions are,

you'll eventually aim at my neck...

in this very palace.

Those who want you as crown prince...

will force you to do so.

If you really think that,

indict me...

for treason.

As the Minister of Personnel wants it,

as well as the Sorons who probably have agreed with him by now,

indict me...

for treason.

What did you just say?

Minister of Personnel and Soron?

Treason?

Where's the Executive Inspector?

Where is the Executive Inspector?

- Master, you have to decide now. - Goodness.

This is the letter from the Minister of Personnel.

This is from Yi Yi Gyeom, Chief Inspector.

Minister of Personnel tells me...

to indict Prince Yeoning for treason.

And the Chief Inspector tells me to protect him.

What am I supposed to do?

You have to side with one of them.

Wouldn't Minister of Personnel be the right choice?

The Norons will eventually...

What if...

the Chief Inspector wins? Will you take responsibility?

Will you?

Executive Inspector.

What do you think will happen tonight?

Manipulation...

will take place.

Most Norons and Sorons can't put up with me.

Isn't it obvious that they...

will make an alliance to get rid of me?

But...

is that what you really want?

Do you want the future of the royals...

to be caught up in manipulation and scheming?

I don't care about the Norons or the Sorons.

That's why I can solely think...

of Joseon's safety, instead of party politics.

Joseon's safety...

instead of party politics?

Isn't that what you dreamed of?

Politics for the sake of the people of this nation.

Have I...

misread your...

true intentions?

What should be done?

One says indict him for treason.

The other says stop them.

Which side should I be on?

Letters each from the Minister of Personnel and Chief Inspector?

Does this really mean...

that the tables will turn by a small margin?

That's true.

The Minister of Personnel and Chief Inspector...

will do everything they can to stop each other.

But can you...

know for sure who will win that battle?

What if you side with Minister of Personnel...

and Prince Yeoning becomes the crown prince?

What will you do then?

What do you...

So look for a way to survive.

Master Jipyeong Wi.

Don't you get it?

If you...

don't know for sure who will win tonight,

find the path you know best. Survive on your own.

That's what I'm telling you.

Jipyeong Wi, say something.

Let's use the inspectors.

What?

We can't tell who will win.

If we want to survive, we can't take either side.

So let's make up a rationale that we can't do anything.

The Saheonbu is trying to fabricate a treason case?

It's not certain yet.

But there's unusual movement by...

the Executive Inspector and Daejangcheong.

(Executive Inspector: Saheonbu's Junior 3rd Rank)

What is it?

I'm afraid I need to verify something with you.

There's rumors that the Daejangcheong...

is trying to fabricate a treason case.

Says who?

We inspectors...

will not allow the Saheonbu to be used in politics.

Find out what the truth is, please.

This is...

my letter for you.

Your Majesty and Prince Yeoning.

(Bloods relation: Brothers from the same bloodline)

I wrote that you two are the only blood relations...

of King Hyojong and the late King.

(Letter: A handwritten letter to the king)

But everything is up to you, Your Majesty.

I will follow your decision,

whatever it may be.

Will you...

really follow my decision, whatever it may be?

It looks like you didn't get any sleep.

It must've been a long night for you too.

Go and get some sleep.

A decision will be made.

Either you'll die,

or I will.

I should've killed you last night.

Those idiots.

How come a dozen men can't put you down?

What are you saying?

Was it you who sent assassins last night to kill me?

Not you.

Maybe not me, but surely not you!

Tell me, Prince Mil Poong!

Was it you and not Minister of Personnel?

What brings you here?

If Yi Tan sent assassins to me,

who was Min Jin Heon trying to kill?

Where's Yeo Ji?

She went to meet some students, but she's not back yet.

No way.

No news from the palace yet?

Master! Master!

- Master. - What?

We're in trouble.

Any news from Prince Yeoning?

That's not it.

Yeo Ji, our Yeo Ji.

I think she's in big trouble.

What do you mean? What about Yeo Ji?

If it turns out...

that you harmed that girl who was wearing my clothes,

I swear...

that I will...

kill you.

- What's going on? - What is he saying?

What happened to Yeo Ji?

- Master. - The aristocrats...

that drank with her were found dead. Then what about Yeo Ji?

Fortunately, her body was not there.

That means she's alive, right?

Where is she? Where is she right now?

We're not sure yet.

I can roughly assume where she might be, but I can't be rash...

Tell me!

Where do you think she's at?
